A definite buy for anyone who wants to get more use out of old Zippos
This is actually a pretty neat little device! It's bringing use back to my old Zippos and it makes a really effective pipe lighter. Obviously, though, you're giving up the Zippo's wind resistant properties in order to have a more traditional butane pipe lighter.

Convenient but not Windproof
I'd say this is convenient since you don't have to worry about the fluid evaporating, but this pales in comparison to the official Zippo pipe insert in outdoor or windy conditions. It also takes a few strikes to light. If you leave your Zippo open butane escapes until you close it.

Works great in most Zippo cases and if not read on and find the fix!!!
I have this jet version and the pipe version and both work very well for me and I am very pleased. I have had them both for going on a year and they have held up well. I don't use them often but they always long as they don't need gas LOL!!! One piece of advice with the Torch insert is that some of the Zippo cases vary in depth. That window on the side of the body is where the insert draws its air to burn properly and in some Zippo cases it can be pretty much blocked due to the depth of the case. If that happens you get poor starting and random flame performance, so if that is happening look to see if you can see any of that window above the edge of the case, if not that is your problem. Easily fixed by adding a small spacer under the insert, I placed a single layer of a business card under mine and the performance was vastly improved. In one case it was fine but in an older Zippo given to me by a friend it was not doing so well until if figured this out. All it needs is a sliver of that window above the case edge and it works great!!! Hope that helps!!!

Work as expected.

it works, keep a bic as a backup though.
Lights easily, nice soft flame, fits in a zippo body with no issues. Needs to be refilled every few days, not nearly as reliable as a standard pipe zippo or a bic.

Good Upgrade
Doesn't handle the wind as well as a Zippo but still a worthwhile upgrade

Good lighter.
This insert has worked very well for me. Although the flame tends to change in intensity at random times, I believe this is due to cheap lighter fuel. I suspect it will work better with vector butane. It fits nicely in the zippo and lights nearly every time. Had it about a month now.

Better than the first insert for a zippo I bought at P&C, but still not terribly reliable.

Broke After Minimal Use
Already broke after minimal use. It won't light. Love the look and I don't know if this was just a rare defect, but none the less it sucks.

Love this lighter
I have been using this lighter for the last 10 years. This is my first replacement and only because I accidently left the lighter in my pants during wash 2 times. Great insert

Love this insert
This will be the 2nd lighter insert I've had. The first one lasted a good 7 years until I left it in my pocket when my wife did laundry. Put it back together and still worked but I had problems with the portion that held the flint. Got another so now maybe I can keep this one working longer

Zippo butane insert
Had trouble with the first one but Adrienne sent me a second one right away and it works great. I would order from you again and would recommend you to others.
Customer Testimonials
This is an awesome pipe lighter and the price is phenomenal too! I have a couple tricks I'd like to share. When you get your Thunderbird take the no proof warranty sticker off the lighter. This is your window to the fuel level and you can actually see how full you've filled it by holding the lighter up to the light. Also get a zippo case for it and all you have to do is simply set the flame level the way you want it and leave it there. This lighter works on any kind of butane so you don't need expensive fuel. Just use the cheapest flints and you will have a reliable, dependable pipe lighter almost for free. It even handles the wind to an extent. This model Thunderbird has the hole in the top so you may want to find the one with the angled flame hole on the side or request it from Pipes and Cigars. The angled flame model directs the flame better for pipe smokers who don't want to burn the rim so much on their pipe. I give this lighter 5 stars and use it for my back up to my main lighter.
I like this insert it does what it is supposed to do and does it well.
Fits nicely in my zippo. Tunned it up should work well.
This is a good insert. I was actually pleasantly surprised that the soft flame lighter uses a flint wheel as opposed to a push button, as this isn't seen very clearly in the picture.
This works really well, no clogs and good flame. Only drawback is as a Zippo fidgiter, I lose a lot of Butane subconsciously flipping my Zippo open and closed, a habit I have had for years.
