Dunhill Flake

If you're a fan of all-Virginia flakes, your cellar isn't complete without some tins of Dunhill Flake. bright yellow flue-cured tobaccos are combined with red/orange Virginias which are matured under pressure and sliced. The flavors are sweet with hay and grassy notes with a hint of citrus. It's wonderful fresh, but is magnificent with some age on it.

Rich, Fine Tobacco
My favorite flake, bar none.

Great smoke
I found this to be very mild and enjoyable. This could easily be an everyday smoke. I did not notice any tongue bite. The flakes had the perfect amount of moisture and they burned very well and evenly. Don't hesitate to buy this tin, you will find yourself ordering more for the cellar.

Surprisingly Good!
I've tried quite a few flakes, but this one is in my top three. It's a Virginia. That's it. I don't detect a topping. Just a nice smooth Virginia flake. No perique, no rum flavor, just Virginias, and some very smooth Virginias at that. Mildly sweet, with a hay-like smell from the tin. Let a few flakes sit out for a bit to dry, then pack it up, whichever way you choose. I will definitely be ordering some more of this one for sure!

Like Tobacco Gold
Dunhill Flake is so good I don't want to open the stored tins of it I have, desiring to save them all, like gold.

My favorite tobacco
Dunhill Flake has been my favorite tobacco since I started smoking a pipe five years ago and has never been knocked off the perch despite several tins of other blends that have followed. DF is a straight Virginia blend with a light topping that seems to amplify the natural sweetness of the Virginias. The Virginia has a citrus and grassy sweetness that is really a one of a kind taste. There are some that come close. Capstan Blue comes to mind, but I have yet to find anything to top it.

This flake is everything you want in a straight Virgnia. Flavor aroma and taste are what you can expect from Dunhill.

Classic flake
This is a high quality and flavorful flake that burns well and is consistent throughout the smoke. I prefer this flake to other quality flakes such as FVF and Capstan.

I smoked 3 Nuns for many years, and then they stopped making it. I was very happy when they came out with 3 Nuns again, but it isn't the same. Don't like it. I like Dunhill Flake, but not as well as 3 Nuns made in Scotland.

The Benchmark
I’ve tried a good many straight Virginia tobaccos and have liked most of them. My two favorites are Capstan (Blue) and Dunhill Flake. Of the two, the Dunhill gets my highest rating. Smoking a bowl of Dunhill Flake is one of the classic pipe smoking experiences. The blend of Virginias in it deliver all the aspects of that leaf, but without going overboard. There’s some hay there, some citrus, some sweetness, but no over emphasis on any of these. What you get is a clean, high quality Virginia that smokes cool and satisfyingly. It says clearly, “you are smoking the Benchmark Virginia blend.”

The champagne of Virginia flakes
The tin note is figs and white grapes. This fine Virginia has an almost wine-like flavor. Rich Dunhill, the sweet and subtle Capstans, and the earthier Samuel Gawith Best Brown are to my palate the Three (or four) Bears of Virginia flake; one among them is bound to be just right.

A light virginia slightly sweet
An occasional smoke, not enough heft for the punch I like

Top notch Va Flake. The range of flavor is from grass to lemon. Plummy tin note should not discourage, the taste is unaffected. Burns smooth with no bite. Perfect for those looking to venture in to strait VA's.
Customer Testimonials
Dunhill Flake is a fantastic tobacco and my go-to favorite. It was the tobacco that made me say "Oh, yeah, I'm a pipe smoker." Succulent, flavorful with just the right amount of Virginia sweetness. Savory room note that gives up little if anything to aromatics. Copious smoke. In between pipes, I can't wait for the next bowl. It's good when rubbed out but even better when folded and stuffed. Don't be scared off by flakes, it's easier and neater to stuff a folded flake than a bunch of ribbon. I was somewhat disappointed with Capstan Blue, finding it bland, but this exceeded my expectations. Another tin of this will accompany every order I place.
Excellent medium strength flake that is made from the highest quality tobaccos. This is a regular in my rotation.
A friend gave me a tin off this as a gift a little over a year ago. At the time I was still in search of the perfect aromatic. I have recently fallen in love with the Virginia Flake. I came across this tin while cleaning out my office desk and immediately opened to satisfy my curiosity. I was not disappointed! Upon opening the tin, I was greeted by a soothing sweet aroma. I packed a bowl and enjoyed a relaxing, mild to medium smoke with a citrusy finish from beginning to end. I definitely recommend this flake to anyone looking for a solid staple in their rotation.
I was looking for a simple Virginia blend with which to season a new pipe, and as I am a beginning piper, I asked friends for a good suggestion. Dunhill Flake may be a lot more elegant than one needs to season a briar. The flakes were very moist and flexible with a tangy, fermented odor in the tin. In the pipe, it stayed lit with minimal preparation . In fact, I've rubbed this, folded it, cut it into cubes and rubbed it into ribbons. It burns well regardless of how it's prepared. Highly recommended from a beginner's naive standpoint. High price and luxury tobaccos characterize this one; were I more advanced on my pipe odyssey, I might be able to say something more intelligent about this blend, which I really like. Burns easily down to a fine light gray ash. No relights were required after a couple tries early in the bowl. This is nice stuff, but if one is looking to season a new pipe, I'd bet that there are cheaper products that would do the trick.
An absolutely wonderful, smooth, clean smoke with hints of citrus and hay. The best virginia flake that you can find, superior to FVF by far, and it is amazing when allowed to age for a good period. Highly recommended to virginia lovers, it is an anytime smoke that gives a relaxing slight nicotine flow. Love it!
I have been finding myself smoking various tobaccos to narrow down a favorite. Well I belive I have found a tobacco to go into my top three. Nice sweet flavor, medium body and absolutely no bite at all. Tin note is sweet, maybe raison note, but the Virginias just dominate. Room note, wife likes it so its going into my main rotation.
A great quality, heavy and full Virginia. I love Capstan blue, but sometimes it isn't 'heavy' enough for my palette. Dunhill fills in nicely when I want a richer experience.
