McClelland No. 2015 Virginia Flake and Perique

McClelland’s #2015 Virginia Flake and Perique uses a somewhat darker range of flue-cured tobaccos than 2010, to which fruity and tangy Louisiana Perique is added. The blend is pressed until the flavors marry and mature and the tobaccos darken. The plug is sliced for easy prep. You can expect deep plummy notes with a slightly-sweet zest.

My favorite Virginia
My all-time favorite McClelland. If you love Virginia tobacco, I think this is the best to be found. Rich, consistent, a great smoke.

McClelland No. 2015
A superb Virginia Perique blend that should be in everyone's rotation. The bag note is wonderful and the smoke that it produces once packed in the bowl is top shelf quality. The tobacco comes in a broke flake that is enjoyable in the fold and stuff method as well as having been rubbed out. The fruit notes and tangy notes are experienced throughtout the bowl start to finish. You can't go wrong adding this to your rotation.

McClelland 2015
I find this flake to be not as refined in cut as other flakes that I smoke (ie. a bit more coarse) and therefore performs better rubbed out then using the fold and plug technique. It's aroma is deep, pungent and fruity. Under fire this tobacco behaves very well, delivering a full smooth smoke that is both sweet and fruity yet tempered with just the right amount of Perique so as not to be overly so. Try some and hopefully you'll enjoy this great blend as much as I and others do.

No doubt a winner in VaPer blends
I have to say that this is certainly a great VaPer (Virginia / Perique blend)!! The flavor is exceptional. Took some bit of work rubbing it out, but definitely well worth it. I've gone through 8 oz so far and have ordered MUCH more! Packs well after rubbing out, and the burn quality is quite good with minimal to no relights, as long as you're tamping every now and then with a deep bowl. Did I mention that the flavor is exceptional? .. :-) . Guess I can't say it enough. I've tried quite a few other VaPers (St. James flake, Louisiana Perique, Lane 125th Aniversary, H&H signature AJ's, Bayou Morning, Anniversary Kake, and some others). These are certainly good baccy's, but IMO are not top in my book. This one is. My other favorite is Orlik Golden Slice, so I now will always have these two fully stocked. I definitely recommend trying an ounce or two of this if you are a VaPer fan. If you're looking to venture into VaPers this is a great one to get. It's rich, deep, tangy, spicy, earthy, sweet flavor is certainly a keeper...and the bulk price is well worth it too.

McClelland 2015
I combine 2015 and McClelland Red Cake 5100 in equal portions and let them sit for about a week. I get a medium body smoke with great flavor. Been smoking this for years.

Customer Testimonials
Excellent VaPer. Highly recommended.
Oh my goodness - I feel like I've wasted my entire life up to the moment of discovery of this tobac - living it in ignorance of this manna was wasted time. A wonderful smoke!
I have avoided perique blends up til now because the descriptions of it did not appeal to me. However, so many people have sung its praises that I finally gave in. When I initially opened the bag and smelled it, I immediately thought of condiments - ketchup, mustard, and pickles. Not a bad smell, but not one I would associate with pipe smoking. However, when you light it up, something magical happens. The room note and taste are AMAZING. I wish I could better describe how great it smells and tastes. It makes you want to puff like crazy to get more, more, MORE! - but even doing so, it gave very minimal bite. It's exceptionally mild. Even puffing like a fiend, I got no unpleasant head buzz or throat burn. It's quite sticky and required a few relights, but still burned well. I think after it dries a tiny bit, it will be perfect. It's definitely worth a try!
The cut is heavier than other producers flakes, and the dampness makes it sticky when rubbing out further, which it needs to burn well, but it gives off a little cedar and pepper when smoked.
I like this tobacco a great deal. Quite similar in flavor, strength and body as Escudo. This is a very good VaPer.
An atypical leaf fragrance of plum and pepper steak carries through dryly to the palate. Moist, rubbery flakes rub out as stiff crumbs.
A great bulk Virginia Flake with a medium body and the sweet Virginia taste, just the right amount of Perique to spice it up. This will be on my regular smoke rotation for a long time. I also put some in the celler for a couple months aging-they all get better with age.
My first Va/Per, and I must say I'm pleasantly surprised. The feel is light and dry, burns cooly even if it is a touch on the wet side (better than dry. After taste reminds me of licorice in a good way
