McClelland No. 2040 Cyprian Mixture

McClelland’s #2040 Cyprian Mixture begins as a classic Latakia blend which combines sweet flue-cured tobaccos with fragrant Orientals and Cyprian Latakia. What sets it apart from the pack is the addition of a light combination of nutty and spicy essences, and the blend is matured with gentle heat.

Perfect Smoke
I received this as a 2 oz sample with the London Fog sampler pack and all I can say is WOW! I absolutely love English blends and the heavier they are in Latakia the more I typically tend to like them. However, occasionally I get a craving for something a little sweeter and therefore, I typically turn to Frog Morton's Cellar to satisfy the craving. I found this to be a dead on ringer for Frog Morton's Cellar, or the closest thing that I have found to date. Wonderful smoke down to the last puff. I will be buying more of this to cellar.

Pleasantly Sweet Latakia Smoke
Those who prefer a sweet, aromatic smoke but also enjoy the great taste of a heavy latakia blend will love this mixture because it delivers a strong latakia flavor along with a distinct sweetness that many non-aromatic "purists" would probably find totally disgusting. I was a bit skeptical at first because I didn't think a very sweet casing would work well with a heavy dose of latakia, but my skepticism was quickly dashed after the first bowl delivered an extremely pleasurable and surprisingly mild smoke from start to finish with no tongue bite at all. The sweet latakia flavor is very predominant up front and remains present during the entire smoke, but the orientals start becoming more noticeable around the halfway point and remain well-blended with the latakia and sweet casing to the very end. Since this highly aromatic blend has a heavy dose of sweet casing, it tends to occasionally produce a caramelized crust that begins to inhibit a good draw through the mixture; so, expect to do a bit of regular "bowl tending" with the spike and tamper of a good pipe tool to keep the contents ventilated and moderately packed for the best flavor.
Customer Testimonials
Definitely not your typical English blend. It's got a sweetness that I would not have thought would work with a heavy dose of Latakia but it works very well. Similar to frog Morton cellar although the sweetness doesn't come from whiskey. Probably not my top Latakia blend but definitely one I will keep on hand.
