Bright lime, and not overly sweet
First, I must state that I really like the taste of lime. With that said, Sillem’s Blue certainly delivers on the lime in a pleasantly sweet, but not too sweet, taste. I don’t detect the maple while smoking, just a lightly sweet, bright lime presentation over some very nice tobacco flavors. At times I detect a hint of bitterness, not unlike marmalade. The mixture of what seems to be irregularly cut yellow, red and dark Virginia tobaccos is in colorful contrast to the brown Cavendish and nutty burley. Together they combine to provide a balanced sweet note behind the lime. There is, however, no mistaking the maple and caramel in the room note, but here the lime aroma is understated. The tobacco arrived moist and has a pleasant, spicy citrus tin note. It burns well to a dry gray ash and does not leave any moist goop in the bottom of the bowl. I have not experienced any tongue bite. A fine blend that I will keep on hand. The tobacco itself is packaged in a rolled and taped plastic bag within the unsealed metal tin. If you’re looking to store some tins, I suggest you transfer the tobacco to storage jars or at least store the tins in an airtight canister. For some I can imagine the lime will be way to upfront, but I certainly enjoy this blend.
