Blending - Perique

Rare and precious, this dark, fragrant condiment tobacco comes to us in wooden casks from St. James Parish, Louisiana, where it has been produced in time-honored fashion since the days when the natives pressed it in tree trunks. Use it sparingly in your blends for its distinctive cooked-fruit, musty, mushroom-like aroma and cool-smoking character.

I was really impressed with the perique tobacco you all sent. While I have smoked it in various blends in the past those blends had so little perique in them one could barely notice it being there. I enjoyed the perique all by itself in my pipe. But I mixed most of it with my Three Sails in my pipe and for hand rolling. The mixture is very good. I'm sure I will be buying more of the perique in the future. Thanks.

Interesting Flavor
I am not an expert on these matters. I bought some Perique to make the bulk tobaccos I buy a little different from time to time. I am satisfied with it for that purpose.
Customer Testimonials
This is an interesting beast of a tobacco. Not sure if I would try to smoke straight but when added to "weaker Vapers" it wakes them up considerably. I added some to an old batch of Orlik and it perked it right up in a good way. Use sparingly, this stuff will definitely make your head swim.
Ordered an ounce of this to try, having never smoked anything with Perique before. It has an aroma that is similar to snuff, like Copenhagen or Skol (minus the flavorings of course). It has a slight spiciness as well during smoking. It's not harsh, but it seemed to produce a very dense smoke that stuck to the back of my throat. Definitely a unique tobacco that is worth keeping a little around for experimentation. A little too strong for me on it's own, but I do enjoy the flavor, and it blends easily.
Hands down the best! It's no secret to blenders that St. JAMES Perique is the best in the world. Mark Ryan has done a fantastic job with the growing and curing. I mix it 1:1 with MacBaren #1 Virginia steaming it twice to marry the flavors for one of the best VaPers you can get, right from your own hand. Whatever you think you need, double the order! P&C prices are so good on this Perique how can you afford not to go with it for your blends?
I'm not even sure I want to blend this... I'm thoroughly enjoying it just the way it came...
I have to agree with BS of MN. That is my favorite perique blend also. When I am smoking it, my wife always comes to my den for the aroma. I am surprised by the difference in the perique tobaccos I get from different suppliers to P&C. Some are great and others not so much.
This is an interesting tobacco. Fickle & capricious. Sometimes like musty plums other times like black pepper. Always good, occasionally even straight, in a good cob. My favorite Perique blend still is from a bygone review I'd once read- 1:1:1 Perique, Latakia, & Green River Black Cavendish.
I am just learning how to construct my own blends. So far, I am quite pleased with the Perique and I like the flavor it adds to the blends I have tried thus far.
