I had this stuff around for a year before finally deciding I REALLY like it! It took awhile 2 figure out!! Quite a bit goin on...fermented Virginia sweetness and th Perique are yummy and th edges are rounded out nicely with th cavendish and it's amazing what a very condimental dose of Latikia can do. If it doesn't speak 2 you rite away take a little time and perhaps it'll come 2 you like it did 2 me. It was worth th time

I started this review at 3 to 4 stars, but after Writing the below, I realized it’s honestly a 5’er.
I prefer English blends, but found myself reaching for this recently. It’s really good (flavor wise) and was meant to be a “nice break from the normal routine”, but ended up being in the routine. Some days I have to make my self get something else for fear I’ll run out. I cellar quite a bit, but can’t seem to leave this stuff alone. I wish I could get it by the pound (or the recipe)! I love the sweet pepper of the Va/per and the hickory flavor of the DFK, all blended with a touch of that smokey lat & creamy cav... it seems to hit all my tastebuds... for me it’s med-full body and full flavor with a modest nic kick.

I find your phone service folks rude. That purchase was my last. Stop sending your catalog.

Think Frog Morton on the Bayou - on steroids. Very flavorful and well-balanced, with the Kentucky adding an extra flavor dimension. This is my new favorite blend.

It was very hard to give a review as low as a 3. There is nothing technically wrong with this blend. Of the 11 I have in my staple rotation it is on the bottom, but it is still in my rotation. I just give it a 3 because there are few times when I'm in the mood for something full-bodied where I don't automatically reach for Nightcap. But there are times when I want something with punch that's a little smoother, and this blend satisfies those times. It has less of a campfire note than most full-bodied blends I've tried and more of an almost hickory note. It's always cool and I rarely have to relight it. It burns to a fine ash easily. The Marquee Series is definitely worth checking out, though. Two of my favorites, White Knight and Black House, are in this line. I was thrilled by the recent buy 3 deal.

I smoke El Nino at least once everyday. Started a pipe in a car and was asked to stop. I assume the room note is not for everyone. Love the tin note. Russ O. did it again.

Having gotten away from heavy Latakia blends for over a year, I have lately been enjoying Presbyterian Match and some other blends with that leaf used as a condiment. El Niño is a Virginia forward blend with the smoky, leathery Latakia truly used as a condiment. Earthy-sweet Virginias are also supported by smoky, spicy Kentucky and a small amount of Perique, which adds a hint of pepper. All the varietals are in perfect proportion for a full-bodied, medium to full-flavored smoke, excellent for those first approaching Latakia or for those enamored of the smoky leaf wanting a break from heavy English blends. This is very well behaved in the bowl, from packing and lighting to ash. As with any Virginia-laden blend, a slow pace is rewarded, though there's no bite, even with distracted, heavy puffing.

Very nice blend. Kind of a VaPer with a bit of smokey latakia and jacked up with dark fired for some extra vitamin N. Good stuff Maynard.

I really love a good meaty blend. This is just a great blend. Nice and smoky, but not too smoky. It's a nice balance. Love it. Would definitely buy again!

I recieved this as part of a dark fired step ladder, this being on the lowest end of that ladder. haven't tried the other two yet (stanwell jubilee and orlik strong dark Kentucky.) while new-ish, i have experienced dark fired in the form of S&G black Irish twist, which was... powerful. This floated just outside of any style, for me at least. its not quite English as i cant pick up the latakia. my tin description made no such mention of latakia. its not aromatic because, well it isnt perfumed... its earthy, a little spicy, and almost bbq saucy. and there is a hint of dark fired which was neat, but there was also sweetness, probably from the cavendish and virginias. it was very interesting. i got a little tired of it through the tin, but funny enough a enjoyed the last few bowls more and more, then found myself sad when i ran out. i wouldn't stop anyone from trying it. i thought it unique and tasty.
