Joya de Nicaragua Antaño Dark Corojo

If you’re familiar with the original JDN Antaño, think of this deep, dark cigar as its bigger brother with more sophisticated manners. Where the Criollo-wrapped version is medium-full in body, but a real powerhouse of spice, the Antaño Dark Corojo , with its espresso-colored wrapper has a dead-on full body but is rich, rather than peppery. The Antaño Dark Corojo cigar belongs to a category with a couple of outstanding sticks- Camacho Triple Maduro and the Liga Privada #9; that is, very dense and full, but with flavors leaning toward dark chocolate and coffee and lacking the strong spiciness of the original. Think of it in terms of fudge cake- a palate-filling flavor, but smooth and silky. Like its brother, the construction of the Antaño Dark Corojo is solid, but has a similar issue- since the wrapper is a bit leathery, it can burn a little oddly at times, but the incredible flood of flavor is more than enough to offset any minor inconvenience. If you enjoy full-bodied smokes but don’t care for peppery spice, this is a cigar that’s a must-try.
