Bayou Slice is a great example of how the Blakeney's toasting process enhances a blend. Premum quality Virginias are pressed with robust, spicy Perique and cut into easy-to-prepare slices. The result is tangy and flavorful and surprisingly easy on the palate.
Due to inventory issues, McClelland Blakeney's Bayou Slice may be temporarily out of stock. But check back often for when it comes back in stock.
Gave it 4 stars mainly because of personal taste. For all I know this is the best example out there. I added a little more Virginia just to cut the raisiny taste a bit.

Nice aroma on opening, let it dry a while, rich smoke and flavor all the way down.

This one's really nothing to write home about to me. . However, I was expecting more sweetness from this blend and really didn't find it. I'm going to guess that some aging time would benefit greatly to bring out the flavor. I am surprised because I love Blakeneys Tawney Flake and I must have had a notion that the VA would be the same. Nope. McClelland has another Va/Per that is sweeter and more of that ketchup/vinegar smell that doesn't get into the flavor of the blend. This one didn't strike me as much ketchup. Oh well! Rubbing out and some drying time is necessary though but not too much as if too dry it looses the entire purpose of Va/Per. I rate this blend with three stars at best..

It's all true !!! Small slices of the smoothest Louisiana Perique mellowed with sweet and zesty matured Virginia's. Rich and satisfying, compelling aroma, smooth, no bite. I'm quite surprised that this blend has not gained greater popularity.
