Favorite afternoon tobacco

It’s pretty popular but never tried it. So glad I did. It’s my new go to.

67 years old and I’ve smoked many, many batches of pipe tobacco. I keep coming back to this. I still think it’s the best.

The standard catalog description states that this is a Virginia/Perique blend. That may be so. I find the perique to be very subtle.
Nevertheless, it is a pleasant and very fragrant smoke. For those who want to try a Va/Per blend Orlik Golden Sliced would be a good choice.
5 out of 5
Orlik Golden Sliced is absolutely one of the very best smokes. Smooth and robust at the same time. Rich tones like fresh mown hay.

This is sweet, bright, great when paired with a sweet tea. Smokes well, all my pipes love this tobacco, doesn't bite or burn hot. Good all day smoke.

Love this very much, always consistent and tasty. Can smoke in all of my pipes without a hitch, never let's me down!

For more reviews Ck out my YouTube Page at NW Piper. I recently did a top five tobacco‘s for 2021 this was really hard considering all the tobacco I have but I was able to narrow everything down to my top 5. Orlik made that list beating out so many other great tobaccos from watch city cigars as well as GL Pease ect. When it comes to Virginias this is a must have. Bready citrus with slight spice on the back end of this. Plus pipes and cigars has some of the best prices around. Get it while you can in fact grab a few and get some age on it you won’t be disappointed.

This Tobacco is like a unique bottle of water. You think when you buy that wired bottle of European bottle “it’s just water”. You would be right, but, you taste the quality difference, taste the extra effort put into filtration and realize how simple it still is.
Crisp, clean, simple and delicious. One of the best Virginia flakes to ever exist. Once again, well done STG

Fantastic VaPer! For the price, this is the best tobacco on the market. Ages very well too!

Orlik Golden Sliced is my favorite non-aromatic pipe tobacco, and I’ve tried dozens of others. If you like sliced tobacco, you can’t go wrong with this brand.

When I received my 3.5oz tin, I was surprised to see 4 flakes, 12inchs king, the tin note I got was apricot, orange & apple, with sweet grassy hay Virginias. The taste I got was apricot, hint of apple tangieness,& I got orange taste on the retrohale, Orlik golden slices is classic world famous danish made Virginia flake. 5 stars easy

I use to buy this stuff all the time when you could still pick this up at drug stores. It’s just a solid mild Virginia flake that can easily be smoked all day.
5 out of 5
This is my new first pipe of the day tobacco. The flavors pressed into this smoke are bright enough to smoke with the first cup of coffee.
5 out of 5
Orlik’s Golden Sliced is the tobacco you always come home to. Mild but flavorful. Dependable. Perfect moisture level. Rub it out or fold it. This is a tobacco that should always be in your rotation.
5 out of 5
An excellent sliced tobacco.
4 out of 5
Great service and original blend. Put them together and you have a Owners blend.
5 out of 5
This is a classic blend. All the sweetness in the can is from the natural sugars in the tobacco. It smokes cool, long and leaves no dawdle in the bowl. The slices breakdown easily and uniformly for easy bowl packing. After my third smoke I broke the entire can down at once knowing that this tin was going to be empty soon. It's not a light tobacco. The room notes are subtly and disperses quickly. I've not met anyone offended by the smell, not even my anti-smoker wife who almost tolerate my pipes.
4 out of 5
Didn't care for this after the first smoke, but it definitely started growing on me. Now it's in regular rotation when I need a break from aromatics. It doesn't "WOW" me, but it is a smoke that I find myself thinking about.
5 out of 5
This is my preferred Virginia tobacco. First off, it comes from the eastern regions of the USA. The way they process it and let it mature makes for a great all day smoke. It burns clean to the bottom of the bowl leaving only a white ash when done. It is sweet without bite and has a nice citrus/orange aroma. I just wish they sold it by the pound, not the ounce. I always have 6 to 12 tins on the shelf.

I am a relatively new pipe smoker, having smoked for less than a year. This was one of the first non-aromatic blends I tried, and it was the first flake tobacco I tried. Let me say I am glad I did. It is now one of my favorites in my still-young cellar. It smells fantastic in the tin, with delicate citrus and grass notes. It took me a few bowls to get the hang of how to pack the pipe with the flake, but now it stays lit well, and it tastes great. I already bought a second tin.

My favorite tobacco any time, day and night. Consistent in flavor, a pleasure to smell

Well balanced Virginia tobacco and very nice high quality leaf.
More for the experience pipe smoker who enjoys English Blends and then matured Virginia's as well.

Smoked it for years. My only other go to tobacco.

Buying 100 tins of it should tell it all. It is a nice tobacco.

I just purchased a second tin of this and am quite happy with it. Being a pipe smoker for several years I have found this to be quite satisfying.
5 out of 5
Perfectly moist flakes that pack a perfect-sized bowl. Very cool-smoking and mellow, with just the hint of perique for flavor. Excellent value. I will be buying this again.
5 out of 5
I don't normally enjoy too many non-aromatics. This one is great. I put it into my regular rotations. Very smooth smoke. Well balanced and is an easy transition from aros to non.

This is one my favorites. Well cured, great burn.

My favorite flake, mild and straight Virginia. A bit more expensive than most but worth it
4 out of 5
Crisp, clean taste. Lovely in the morning or before a meal.
I'll always smoke this.
I'm also in love with the tin.

Beautiful mild and fruity tones. The cut was perfect. Just an absolute high quality blend.

This is my clear favorite. I usually mix it with various other tobaccos. It's very smooth and rich. Has a smell and taste like prunes and wood kindling. I highly recommend it.

A tasty even pipe tobacco. No harsh bite. This Orlik Consistently offers an even burn. Very pleasing. Thank you.

Finest flue cured bright Virginia flake ever crafted. This is what pipe tobacco is supposed to taste like!
4 out of 5
Its a nice blend but I find it tedious to have to rub it out. Having said that it has a nice flavor.
5 out of 5
Excellent VaPer. Perique is in the background and barely noticeable. I would describe it as just being there to add body to it. Room note is good. Of all the tobaccos I've tried this is definitely in my top three but I am not sure how I would order my top three.
5 out of 5
I'm now working through tins I've have in the cellar for a year. Even better now! One of my favorites!
5 out of 5
Very, very small amount of perique in this blend. Probably my most favorite Virginia - lots of hay & grass and citrus

Amazing once aged, excellent out of tin
5 out of 5
This tastes fantastic out of tin and if you age it for about 6-12 months it tastes phenomenal! I lean towards aromatics and VaPers. Definitely check out Escudo too.
5 out of 5
What an amazing tobacco!
This is actually slightly *sweeter* than a black cavendish, though it is thus in an extremely subtle way. A very delicate smoke indeed.
It burns very well without need to relight, and I stuff my pipes with whatever cut is in the tin I may be using at the moment. I don't 'rub' or chop or cut or break up anything, I may, once in a rare while, dry something out a little, but that's about it.
This tobacco doesn't burn hot no matter how rough a puffer you may be. It barely even gurgles! There is literally no bite whatsoever.
I have to say it again though, how amazing the subtlety of the sweetness and fantastic taste is of this tobacco for a non-aromatic. This is the kind of tobacco even a person new to pipes could get hooked on to make their 'go to' tobacco. I can't praise this tobacco enough!
I'm definitely going to have to order some more so I don't worry about running out.
4 out of 5
Wow this tobacco is smooth and delicate I enjoyed every bit of it.

Orlik Golden Sliced is always a dependable tobacco, for a brief smoke or a relaxing extended smoke. It satisfies my needs every time I smoke it.

For me it was a good cool smoke tasted amazing riminds me the smell of summer

Wonderful! Full of flavor, but perfect for me as a beginner to pipes.

Great all day blend, but by adding a small amount of Turkish Ribbon it borders perfect.

ive had this before, dejavu pipe dream ,its very nice, smokes true ,i would recomend this to a novice pipe smoker hands down.
4 out of 5
I've always loved VA/Pers and keep a Dunhill dedicated to them. I hated this tobacco the first time I smoked it. I found it cloyingly sweet and a citrus note that was overwhelming. After 3 or 4 more bowls it began to grow on me and so I keep it in rotation with my current favorite, Capstan (blue). It's a great value, really. Like all va/pers smoke it low and slow.
4 out of 5
Excellent mild flake, my favorite. Would give it 9/10, as good as the flakes I use to buy in the UK of my youth. I reserve a 5, or 10/10, for the tobacco of such perfection that it does not exist except in dreams!
5 out of 5
I just opened the second of five tins I purchased about six months ago. More than half the flakes were perfect mosture level with about five showing signs of drying. Very enjoyable with hints of buttered toast and slight Perique. Near the end of my first tin I tried adding a bit more Perique but this tin tastes great on its own. I prefer PS Luxury Navy Flake perhaps due to it's Rum topping and a more perceptable Perique but I'm glad I have three more tins of OGS that seem to be getting better with time. I like to fully rub out the flakes.

I'm smoking this now with a pinch of added Perique. Very tasty!

Pipes and Cigars has become my go to for all of my pipe tobacco needs. Fast shopper! Great prices! Pleasure to do business with!
4 out of 5
Tangy and delicious, this is a great smoke to have on-hand. It’s easy to break apart and load, and it’s light enough to smoke all day. The flavor is comparable to Stokkebye’s Danish Export in my opinion - albeit a bit tangier, and it’s a bit more expensive. It tastes like it would age nicely though, and the tin does facilitate this, so in that regard it might be a better option than buying bulk regardless of the price. I’ve read that this used to contain perique, and for my taste it could use something extra to tone down the Virginia. That being said, even by itself I enjoyed it.
4 out of 5
Excellent value for the price. A bright mild smoke. This is a go to for my once daily evening pipe. If you are new to pipe smoking this is one you should try. Very consistent and always enjoyable.
5 out of 5
the well known owner of a Danish Tobacco Company liked Golden Slice a lot though it was not made by his company. Its a light colored flake with very subtle notes of honey. Very pleasent smoke
5 out of 5
I love this stuff. It is a beautiful, bright Virginia tobacco and is as good as the hard to get premium brands at much less money. I have several tins in reserve, and will smoke a bowl of it today!
4 out of 5
A nice mild and moderately priced Virginia that's readily available. Light sweet and citrusy flavor with just a hint of Perique. The flakes are easy to rub out or fold and stuff. A consistent blend that can be enjoyed all day.
5 out of 5
Delicious, sweet Virginian tobacco. Can't go wrong. Although, it is a pain to keep lit, but that's probably my own fault.

Probably the best Va. flake available at a moderate price.

A must try for Aromatic smokers or Non-aromatic smokers. Won't be disappointed, plan on keeping this in my rotation. Its medium strength, so for me it's not an all day smoke but I'm sure others have higher tolerance and this would be a great all day smoker.Cant speak for aging the tobacco, I need to buy more at one time. Enjoy :)

Great smoke. This is my go to smoke on hot days. It’s has an excellent hay like sweet grassy flavor. Very enjoyable and ages quite well.

So wonderful Virginia flavors

I got this Red Orlik, and it is just as I remember from 40 years back. Smooth and mellow as Danish tobacco is supposed to be
5 out of 5
My favorite Virginia blend so far. I've tried sever of the Peter Stokkebye luxury blends. They are all great, but Orlik Golden Slice really stands out as the best bright Virginia blend on the market. Smells like fresh cut grass, tastes like sweet summer heaven.
4 out of 5
When it's young, I give this tobacco 3 stars. When it's aged, I give it 5 stars. As a compromise, I gave it 4 stars here. Orlik is one of the better examples of a blend that transforms in the cellar. It's not overly expensive and it's easy to put back a bunch in the cellar to be revisited years later. I've found that 5 years of age transforms this tobacco into something everyone should get the opportunity to try at least once. When it's young, it's a grass and hay festival that ends up biting me. When it's aged, its hay-field, creamy-sweet-goodness that is the definition of the best characteristics of bright Virginia leaf. And it doesn't bite me anymore.
4 out of 5
Very good. Bought only because you showed Wessex golden flake to be out of stock
4 out of 5
I've been using Orlik Golden Sliced for a couple years as part of a blend (25%-40%) for MRYO. Earlier cans have been darker, with a stronger molasses/fig taste. The most recent can is more like hay with a touch of fig, and late citrus/pepper notes. I like this a lot still, but not as much as earlier cans. Has anyone else noticed a change? Still one of my faves to blend. Highly recommended. I cut up the slices with scissors to make it easier to roll, fyi.

A good smoke. Lots of Va and a some perique. Thinly sliced and not too hard to light. If you like Virginias, this is a good one.

The Best!! Enough said!

I am so glad I tried this! I really think I have found my favorite pipe tobacco, so much flavor and always good to the last draw. I am new to pipe smoking and have been trying alot of fine tobacco, but for me this really satisfies!!!
5 out of 5
I haven't had a VaPer in decades. This has just enough perique to get a touch of peppery spice. I typically smoke 2 lbs. Latakia, 2 lbs. Ribbon cut Bright Virginia, 1 lb. of Orientals and half a pound of perique. So, this was really a change. I found it a very light smoke with a hint of almost a citrus type taste. It was a nice switch from what I normally smoke ... without deviation for many years .. I'm not fond of aromatics .. So, for a timely switch .. this really hit the spot. I intend to buy more of this. It's really quite good. Even an old fool can learn new tricks.
5 out of 5
This is my favorite va flake ! Very sweet Virginia and mellow ! Very citrus with seems like a small amount of perique added for spice and kick but not too much . I tend to like tobacco not too strong and this one is perfect! I never tire of this !

My favorite sliced tobacco.

5 out of 5
Loved it. Smoked it in a cob just a min ago and I really enjoyed it
5 out of 5
Notes of citrus, grass and for me at least an almost sweet fresh baked bread. Very pleasant over all. The cut is easly rubbed out and consist of long sheets of pressed tobacco that hold together in a large stack curled up in the tin. The tobacco is not too dry or to wet and stays lit well. A good every day smoke.
4 out of 5
I'm a new pipe smoker and have been sticking to aromatics, but based on reviews, I decided to give this a shot. Wow! I was very surprised at how much I loved the natural taste of this tobacco. It tasted to my palate like dried hay, but in a pleasant way. I did notice that on the retrohale, it had a bit of a spiciness to my nose but not too much. What I didn't expect was the nic hit I got from it, and I got a little dizzy, at which point, I stopped. Perhaps I should have eaten prior to smoking it, but I definitely loved it and will smoke it slower the next time, which will definitely be very soon. I'll be ordering more of this without a doubt!

One of my favorites.

Fresh off the press: best smelling tobacco for my hubby! Love it!!!

OMG Im addicted to sniffing this . amazing citrus notes
3 out of 5
A very nice blend. Burns smoothly, no bite. Your definition of a quintessential clean smoke. But it totally lacks complexity and makes for a very boring smoke if you're not quite in the mood for it. It has it's place. It's a nice change of pace from say a heavy Balkan blend.
2 out of 5
I had a tin of ogs, first one I ever bought. The flakes were bright yellow and smelled of fresh cut hay and honey. It was delicious I savored every smoke and even put off smoking the last 2 flakes for a time to really enjoy them. Since then I bought 5 tins of 3.5oz and the flakes were dark brown and too strong for me. I'm so sad these didn't work out. I opened each can hoping that the flakes were light yellow but no.
4 out of 5
Smells great and it's not an aromatic. Tastes like fresh cut grass, and that is a compliment.
5 out of 5
First i was skeptical, i had a lot of good comments of this blend, so i decided finally to give it a try and what was my surprice. It got me on the first light. Got that hint of citrus flavor and the best part is that it stays lit with mo problem.
5 out of 5
Been my go to Virginia for years. Your price keeps me coming back. Respect your drawing however...if you get too impatient with it, you could experience a bite. Use in a well broken in favorite pipe and you will find yourself relaxing and thinking of warms seas and beautiful sunsets.

Pipes and Cigars does a "great" job getting orders out quickly. Orlik tobacco is wonderful.!
4 out of 5
What stops me from 5 stars is this stuff is a strong pressed flake that may be too much for the novice. Its slow burn dictates that you must budget time for it and not rush yourself. Prepare for that.. I love this stuff when I want to get away from the common drugstore blends. With these comments said, try the smaller tin first, making sure you're comfortable in case it's not for you. Thanks! jt

I like the strong nicotine and rich flavor.
5 out of 5
Had to try a can of Orlik Golden Sliced after reading all the reviews. It's as advertised: smooth sweet Virginia with just a touch of Perique. Smells grassy in the can. Smooth toasted Virginia taste. I do not get any of the citrus/orange it's supposed to have. I tried folding and stuffing it first. Then rubbed. Settled for cutting the sheets in thirds and a quick rub which gave me nice ribbons. Burns clean with almost no ash. Higher in nicotine than most brands I've tried.
5 out of 5
Smoke this everyday has a great taste and is hard to get burnt out of. Taste of a light citrus with grass and hay like taste. I will have this in rotation the rest of my life.
5 out of 5
great tobacco great taste a very light vaper good moisture very slow burning and has an orange citrus tastr along with a little bit of spice
5 out of 5
The blend of Virginias and a hint of Perique rounds out the tobacco beautifully. A must try for beginers.
5 out of 5
This is the first tin of Orlik I’ve had, and man let me tell you I couldn’t be happier. Never had a VaPer before. I get that grassy/ sweet taste upon initial draw and then a spicy peppery finish that’s not too overpowering. Love this!
4 out of 5
It is a very sweet blend and good for switching over from aromatics to non. However, its has Virginias so it will burn hotter. Slow and steady!
5 out of 5
I've tried numerous tobaccos, but I keep going back to this one. Love the flavor and the smell. The only negative is that it seems to burn pretty hot, but that could be my fault.
5 out of 5
I'd say that most folks recommendations for this are spot-on. It's light, grassy, slightly sweet and wonderful. Smooth, tasty, and sure to be a favorite!
3 out of 5
Nice full flavor. Didn’t really make me jump out of my shoes though. A nice smoke once in a while, but not, in my opinion an everyday.
5 out of 5
This is a perfect intro to a Flake tobacco in my humble opinion. I love the smell right off the bat. A little citrusy, woodsy scent. Very nice smoke.
5 out of 5
A wonderful full bodied tobacco. Bright, sweet and tasty
5 out of 5
I'm not giving you another wine commercial. So I'll put it bluntly:: Golden Slice is my absolute favorite tin. Every day! Simple, smooth, neither harsh nor mild -- and consistently good. Tart sweet and spicy -- all at the same time. It's my morning wakeup with a pot of coffee. After lunch. And even after dinner. I wish I could get it in bulk.

Put this judge on the Supreme Court! Amazing taste and quality! Great price too!

I have tried several flakes with Perique and settled on Orlik Golden Sliced. Just enough Perique without being overbearing. Not an everyday blend for me but when I want that VP taste Golden Sliced rises to the top.
3 out of 5
Let me start by saying that the perique is very very light so if you are afraid of the spice dont be but if you are looking for a perique power house look else where. It is one of the virginia flakes standard for a reason and one reason mostly because its reliable or boring for some people. One dimension sweet naturally sweet blend. May be overrated some times to be honest though. I assume it age well so thats an added plus but fresh not very unique. Intasted better flakes but some times you want that reliable taste every now and then. Some it slow as it tend to burn hot if abused. Room note is of hay,cig scent. Not overwhelming but not pleasent either. Al janabi
5 out of 5
One of my top three.
5 out of 5
If you like citrus, you'll like this...A citus flavor wih every draw, from start to finish, and a pleasing room-note....Expect a little bite, but, not too bad for an ocassional smoke....Definitely worth keeping in rotation, even if you're a English or Latakia fan...Great for a change of pace and your palate will thank you...Switch it up a bit, and get the full satisfying flavor of both worlds. THANK YOU, again P&C for your selections and service...Top notch in everything...

I have smoked a lot of this product in the past .and this order has not been a
disappointment. and a great price to boot,thank-you for being in busisness.

My taste and likes for different blends are constantly changing, but the one mainstay for me is Orlik Golden Sliced. I never grow tired of this tobacco slice of heaven. As long as it's in production, it will be in my rotation.
3 out of 5
Some are better. Many more are worse. Orlik is Orlik. This ubiquitous tin is what the other Virginia flakes are compared to. The price that is asked for this tobacco is very reasonable considering the quality of the product. If you haven't tried it , you should, just so you understand what the baseline is for Virginia flake. This tobacco is markedly better if you let it rest in an unopened tin for a few years. So buy two; one to smoke now and see what it is like fresh, and one to smoke in a couple years. It is cheap. It is good. It is Orlik. Just smoke it like everybody else.
5 out of 5
I love this tobacco. I'm a cigar smoker so I keep getting English blends pushed on me. I'm not a big fan of those. I"m very happy i tried this Virginia. Tastes like sun warmed hay in summer. No bite, smokes a little hot and nicotine won't make itself known.
5 out of 5
A very satisfying, never at loss for interest, treatment of Virginia tobac. This and a subtle English do me just fine.
5 out of 5
First tin of Orlik Golden Sliced. Very enjoyable. Tin aroma is bright and sweet. Maybe a bit reminicent of raisin bread. Pleasant toasty smoke. I personally have been enjoying it best on cool autumn evenings. Flakes from tin came clumped together in a big lump rather than defined individual flakes. Didn't really bother me because I prefer to rub out my flakes before packing anyway, but if you prefer to fold and stuff, you may find it a little difficult. Other than that 5/5. Will definitely be buying more.

my first virginia, so i dont have much to go off over as far as comparison or what to look for, but i love smoking the stuff in my rotation.

I have always enjoyed Orlik Golden Sliced. Smooth, very little tongue bite. A pleasant pipe each time. Just keep it from drying out.
5 out of 5
This is a great blend if (and only if) you do something similar to the following: (1) pop tin, (2) immediately put into airtight, half-pint mason jar (Ball "collection elite" jars work best as this flake is wide), (3) make sure no tobacco is on rim of jar and screw lid on firmly (do not heat, boil, seal, etc.), (4) age in the dark at room temp. for AT LEAST 3 months, preferably six or more, and finally (5) before consuming allow to dry as necessary before consuming.
If you do not expose to air and age, this tastes like garbage and smokes inferno hot. If you do age, the reward will be great.
5 out of 5
I have grown to really enjoy Virginia blends. Orlik Golden Sliced is among my favorites of the Virginias. And it also contains a small percentage of Perique tobacco. I bought 4 large tins to put away into my cellar. The aging process makes a great blend even better! Thanks for a wonderful deal for some excellent product! I also enjoy doing business with your company. Fast, accurate orders shipped to my door at good prices. What more could I want??!!
5 out of 5
There is a very slight spice note from the perique. I get a sweet, citrus with a slight tanginess and a fair amount of grass from the Virginia,The topping is mildly citrus flavor. The nic-hit is mild. Won't bite or get harsh. Burns a little slow, depending upon how you break up the flake, with a very clean and cool consistent flavor all the way through. Leaves very little moisture in the bowl, requires an average number of relights. An easy going all day, uncomplicated mild smoke that doesn't wear out its welcome.

Really good, I quite enjoyed it. Probably my favorite at the moment. It was sweet, but naturally so, not from goopy casings. Burned well with very few relights (maybe one for me). What's not to love?

Just the right amount of sweetness, kind of apricotty, buttery hay taste. I love it!

Fine taste, but too traditional for me...

This is a must try if you like VA/pers.

The best Virginia tobacco there is in my opinion.

My first experience with VaPer, I'm hooked.

Orlik GS was my intro to Virginia flake. Granted, it is a VaPer, but the perique cannot be detected. Rather, it lifts the crisp Virginia and keeps it boyant so the smoke stays subtle, but never one-dimensional. I'm currently on the search for my ideal VaPer/Virginia. This is the tobacco that started it all for me. I may end my quest where I started; OGS is just that good. Never harsh, perfectly balanced

this is the first time I tried this blend and I am pleased. I am 3 bowls down and I can tell this would be a great all day smoke. the flakes are really long and rub out really easy. I would definitely love to see how this stuff ages. would buy again.

Very good smoke, lights easily and stays lit well. The moisture content is perfect, ready to smoke. and the flavor is sweet and grassy, this is a great blend

This is one of the top blend for summer. I enjoy this blend every Monday morning with my cup of Arabica coffee. People who didn't tried this blend then plz go for it .
Thanks

I used to smoke aromatics when I was young, stopped smoking pipes and now I'm back again. Started with My mix 965, which I love, then I decided to give VaPer's a try. Why in god's name did I not try golden sliced before?! Don't get me wrong I love a latakia strong English, but now I'm beginning to question it. Pretty sure I started going slack on the first puff, absolutely fantastic!

Like everything about this tobacco, great taste and aroma, easy on the palate, all at a reasonable price. If you like VaPer blends you should try the large tin.
4 out of 5
This is a good decent smoke. I am new to VaPers so I can only compare to Cornell&Diehl Bayou Morning my favorite or Hearth&Home AJ's or Louisiana Red. Very close.

The best vapor I have had so far. Perfect balance tobacco. The moisture was perfect right out of tin. Love it so much I bought a few tins for aging. If you switching from aromatic this is you tobacco.

I read that the owner of another large Danish Tobacco Company really liked Golden Sliced even though it was not made by his firm and so tried it. I agree its a great Virginia flake easy to pack and light and tastes great

This is a very good beginner "mild" Virginia blend. You can tell that the tobacco is of a high quality. Good, clean tobacco, hay-like flavors with just a slight sweetness on the finish. I did not give 5-stars because I did not get any Perique notes from this blend period........ but that's just me. If you are looking for strength, it's not here. But if you need a break from a blend and a pleasant palate cleanser, this is worth the try.

This is a good starter Virginia. It has all of the characteristics of quality tobacco that has been processed at a minimum. It will give the typical grass-like tones with a light natural sweetness. I did not taste any perique, however, I usually smoke stronger tobaccos - maybe my mouth has lost nuanced detection. That being said, I did not give it a five because I thought it was a little too mild! If you are going to advertise perique, at least let me have a little spice. I got none out of this particular tin.

I liked this one. It's moist which makes it easy to fold. I found it smooth with just a bit of a tang to it. It burns slowly and well and so is a good long smoke. Will definitely order more (my wife gave me this as a Christmas gift) and will try other blends by Orlik.

This used to be a great Virginian flake (with a touch of Perique) smooth, buttery with natural sweetness & luscious full mouth feel. The flakes were perfectly cut for folding and struggling. The only reason to get a flake tobacco IMO. However, the new packaging in rectangular tins, as opposed to the previous round tins, have all but ruined it. The flakes are no longer distinct individual pieces. They now run together and crumble when I try to remove the flavors, making it hard to impossible to get uniform pieces for folding and struggling, thus ruining the flake smoking experience. Please bring back the ROUND TINS!!

Great change of pace tobacco. Smoke it occasioally in some of my small pipes for a taste treat.

I am experimenting away from topped and cavendish blends, and I wanted a good pure tobacco smoke. I was also wanting to experience a sliced flake. This fit the bill on both counts. And has been a great success. Really good, smooth, tasty smoke. A little on the mild side, but that is fine with me. Moisture content out of the can was perfect. I have done both the fold method and the rubbed method with this flake. Both have worked well for me. If you are looking to try a "pure" smoke with not toppings or add-ons, or if you are looking to try a flake, give it a shot. i think you'll like it. I do.
5 out of 5
Good tobacco plain and simple. Don't expect big wow factor with this one, just a solid simple smoke that delivers good tobacco taste and enjoyment. I can see why so many like this blend.
4 out of 5
I was smoking this one in the early 1990's and it never mentioned perique on the back label until recently. It's a very good Virginia with just a little Burley, but there is absolutely no perique in this. I guess Orlick figured they could increase they're sales if they mentioned it had perique. Believe me, they know the difference between burley and perique.

Once I tried OGS there was no going back. The tin note is fresh and inviting. I highly recommend it.
5 out of 5
Orlik Golden Sliced is my go to Virginia flake
5 out of 5
OGS has become one of my favorite flakes and a staple in my rotation. It's mild enough to smoke all day if I want to, but full enough flavor to taste all day as well. I've never had a complaint about the aroma (like I often do with Latakia blends). I would buy OGS by the pound in bulk if it was an option. If you enjoy Bright VA's, you can't go wrong with Orlik Golden Slices!
5 out of 5
Sweet Virginia, an all day smoke, but save it for a time when you can sit down and enjoy it.
I prefer it to Dunhill Flake. It is similar to Iwan Ries' Virginia Slices, and I have mixed the two with good results.
3 out of 5
I put 3 stars cuz as of right now I'm not completely fond of it but from what many tell me it'll grow on me with time and after smoking longer and know all the ins and outs I will appreciate the subtlness of certain notes in it and all aspects of the smoke. So only time will tell and if it does grow on me more I will put another review.
5 out of 5
And I'm a rather shrewd judge!

What can I say. It smells wonderful in the Tin and Taste just the same. Good solid tobacco for the summer months.
5 out of 5
Mild, just the right Virginia for my taste.
5 out of 5
This has become my go to tobacco. It's naturally sweet, burn cool and has no bite. It's just an awesome smoke with a great taste and room note.
4 out of 5
When I first opened this I thought it had a nice tin note. I proceeded to fold some and pack my pipe, a MM short stop. I had to light it a few times before it finally took off, but it was a pleasant smoke, nothing to write home about, though. About halfway through the sweet citrus flavor hit and, WOW! I thought, this stuff is awesome! I couldn'the wait to have some more! Unfortunately, I have yet to find the citrus flavor again. I have tried different pipes, letting it dry, crumbling it before packing, but nothing seems to work. So, I give it only four stars. If I can find the citrus again I will happily re-review it with five. If not, I may have to drop it to just three. It's a nice smoke, but without the citrus there's really not much special about it, to me.
5 out of 5
This flake is tender and friable. It is easy to process and packs well. I love this flake. Wish it came in bulk.
5 out of 5
A really nice smooth smoke. Has an old fashioned taste, slightly sweet and the room note is pleasant as well. I tend to be a fast puffer at times and this has no tongue bite. This is going to be in my rotation for sure.

It's good by itself, or mixed.

Smells like Fig Newtons (which I hate) but taste so good, really enjoy smoking.

my favorite Virginia tobacco. sweet, citrus flavors. an enjoyable spring and summer time smoke. this stuff is in my top 5 favorite tobaccos. to me ,any time after breakfast is a great time to start lighting some up. cant go wrong with this blend.

Fresh and well packed. I really wanted to like this due to the recommendations. But I think it just isn't my cup of tea. Seemed hot and harsh. I am a total newbie so that may be the issue. I also got some Dunhill Nightcap which i liked much better.

I love this stuff.. But it doesn't come cheap or bulk...

In my opinion a very good tobacco. Great tasting Virginia tobacco.
5 out of 5
This was the first Va/(Per?) that I ever tried. Since I had no other experience with a tobacco of this sort I didn't know what to expect. I have to say that I thoroughly enjoy OGS and it has earned a spot in my rotation. This is a perfect tobacco for the sweltering summer days in Florida where a robust English Blend would just be overkill. My favorite time to smoke this is late morning with a cup of tea with a little milk. There is something about the combination of the sweet, citrusy Virginias, the tea and the milk that almost seem like you are eating a delicate pastry. Word of advice, however, don't be overly aggressive with it as it could turn cigarettish. If that happens, set it down and give it a minute to cool. Then tamp and relight and treat it well.

I am really disappointed with how moist, and limp flavored the tobacco in this tin is compared to to the 1.76 oz tin. There was an actually stain on the inner paper from the moisture.
It is the small tins for me from now on,whose flavor is top notch.

Orlik golden sliced is a great virginia tobacco. Delicious smell and flavor. Perfect moisture content no drying time needed. Great for hot summer days.

This is one terrific smoke. The hearty flake is easy to light, and one flake will fill a good size bowl.smokes cool, and a wonderful sweet Virginia taste with a hint of spice.Very good value for the price also. This is something I look forward to smoking. This is a must try flake that's one of a kind.Get this in your bowl my fellow pipers.

Good fresh. Amazing after a year!

I purchased Orlik Golden Sliced based upon strong recommendations from some fellas on a social media site for pipe-smoker enthusiasts. It happens to be a standard, "go-to" for many of them. I loved the flake cut, breaking off pieces and rubbing them to load the bowl, and it does have a very pleasant tin smell. It also is not so strong that a part-timer like myself can't smoke it in back-to-back sessions. I still prefer MacBaren's Virginia No. 1, as I find it to have more flavor, more body and a more pronounced 'sweetness' but the Orlik flake is obviously top notch and will remain in my regular rotation.

I have enjoyed every pipe full. Enough said!

This blend is wonderful fresh out of the tin. Despite the budget price the virginias really shine and provide excellent flavor. A great blend to stock up on as it will only improve with age.

Surprised that it came in a strand instead of slices, but really good stuff. Packs, lights, burns, and taste great. Will definitely buy again.
5 out of 5
Orlik Golden Sliced is a reliable, refreshing, clean smoke that I can always count on -- all day, every day. The Virginias are sweet and buttery soft, but still have a crisp taste. The Perique is very slight. That doesn't mean it's role should be overlooked. I can't seem to find another tobacco that tastes like this -- some VaPers come close, but there is something special that I can't quite put my finger on which makes this one stand out. I prefer the way the flakes are cut in the 1.76 oz tin (vs. the 3.5 oz tin). I've had both and will go back to buying several 1.76 oz tins. They just tasted better to me for some reason.
5 out of 5
Orlik Golden Sliced is a legend in pipe tobacco that always satisfies. And the taste, hard for me to describe, is always right on top of my favorites list. The tin says it is Virginia tobacco that is aged and sliced into cakes and has citrus and orange notes. I have not tasted all the good Virginia's but I am sure you will like this one, a sweet rich tobacco blend everyone loves.

very nice smoke, clean mild...comfortable

This blend of Virginia with just a touch of spicy Perique became my every day smoke after the very first bowl. I remember being initially impressed with the simple sweet richness of the Virginia used in this mixture - a mild round fresh flavor with hints of freshly mown hay. And as the bowl progressed, I found that the flavor opened up even further, becoming more interesting and satisfying as the gentle complexity of the Perique insinuated the palate. And yet there was no bite even when smoked at a goodly pace. Burns to a white ash, yet burns slowly and easily due to the shag cut. This is a simple, honest tobacco and , as far as I am concerned, the best Virginia blend out there.

More full virginia than va/per but tasty
5 out of 5
Great blend perfect all day smoke. The room note can be tough on others who don't smoke. This blend is why I love Virginias.
4 out of 5
Light, sweet with a bit of perique bite if you smoke it to fast. This will be my go to when I'm tired of the English blends I favor.
5 out of 5
I remember meeting Peter Stokkibye and finding this to be his favorite blend. If someone asked me what I now prefer it would be Orlik's Golden sliced. It is a true tobacco taste Virginia/Perique blend that can be smoked all day. It never varies and I like the idea that I can fold and stuff two flakes for a nice long smoke. Grassy citrus notes are there but never any bite.Very high grade Virginia leaf at an affordable price. I like the small tin packaging better than the larger round tin since the flakes are easier to handle than the "hayroll" of the larger tin. This has even surpassed FVF from Sam Gawith for me.

I tried this because I heard all the rave reviews about it. The only other VaPer I had ever tried was Viprati, and I thought it was horrible (one person's junk is another's treasure...). Opening the tin, I was greeted by a wonderful, citrus-y, hay-like aroma, and the Yellow Virginia really stood out. I rubbed it out and loaded it into my Mr. Brog Scoot pipe. It lit easily and burned well. I have heard people say there is no Perique in this, but I could definitely taste the Perique...not strong, but just about right. A slight spicy-peppery after-taste, like a small pinch of cayenne pepper in gumbo. Enough to be interesting without being assertive. The Virginia was wonderfully tangy and sweet, all at the same time, but not a sugary-sweet. More like Honeysuckle off the vine. Just a natural sweetness that melded with everything else. It had a good medium body, and not too harsh, or too mild (a problem I have with aromatics). I guess the room note was OK, because my wife did not complain. It burned to a nice ash, all the way to the bottom with only one re-light (probably packed it too tight...). Never a bite or gurgle. It left me wanting more.... It will be in my permanent rotation from now on.

This is the second tobacco I've tried as a new pipe smoker. First off it's really mild. I'd say around a mild cigar but maybe even a bit milder in flavor than that. The flavor it does have is a rich sweet orange with a bit of a pepper spice. It's mild-medium bodied and gives enough of a kick to relax I just wish the flavor was a bit more there. Didn't notice any tongue bite and I tend to be a faster smoker. Good room note, good for beginners, probably gonna look for something with a bit more flavor though.

Love this stuff. Nice, long, cool smoke everytime.

I've only smoked aromatics but recently wanted to try something a little "more". Not too much because I can suffer from nicotine dizziness fairly easily. I saw a Youtube video on the "Stuff & Things" channel and Bradley stated that this was his first tobacco that wasn't an aromatic and, for the first time, he really enjoyed smoking his pipe. So I thought I'd give it a shot. I ordered a tin from P&C and waited patiently.
When the tin arrived, I immediately opened it and inhaled deeply. "Wow," I thought, "this smells great!" I took out one of the flakes, rubbed it out, and loaded my Peterson Deluxe 5s System Pipe I got this last Christmas. I smoked that first bowl slowly to make certain I didn't get any of nicotine dizziness. It burned evenly without any tongue bite. All-in-all, it was a very smooth, mellow, smoke.
While I can't yet detect any of the subtleties that other have but I can testify to the Perique as there's definitely a pepper spice in the nostril and mouth.
I'm not sure what it is, but I keep coming back to this tobacco. Because of it, I've ordered some mild English blends to see if I like those, too.

This tobacco is a classic for a reason. Should be every pipers first departure from aromatics. Super mellow and mild flavor. Smoked cool and sweet with a really nice room note.

I'm a relatively new smoker but this stuff is definitely a tasty treat.

Very good flavor perfect amount of sweetness and smoke slow and nice and evenly with the same great flavor all the way to the end I just wish I could buy it in bulk

Can smoke this all day long, goes great with coffee, beer, scotch, soda...... i think you get the idea. Comes ready to smoke right out of the tin no drying time needed at all. Best bang for your buck as far as i am concerned. great smoke in the morning, afternoon or night.

Let me tell ya... This a very good smoke and the citrus notes come through like a song bird! It smokes cool, chain hits, 3 and 4 at a time stay cool and flavorful and taste stays right on. I did try and dip some and the notes were even stronger, so double duty 4 me.

This is a great tobacco to enjoy out on the deck with your favorite briar. I have been a big fan of flake tobaccos.
5 out of 5
I'm a new pipe smoker, and typically prefer aromatics. I wanted to try a Virginia Flake and went with Orlik Golden sliced based on reviews. I have to say that most user reviews of tobacco on P&C are accurate. This tobacco is beautifully prepared into symetrical flakes, rub out easily (if you prefer), and burn slow and cool. My preferred method is a combo of roll/fold to acquire a richer smoke that is a nice break from the heavily cases blends I typicaly reach for. Very little to no tounge bite, smooth, slight hints of citrus hay, very easy smoke.
4 out of 5
I would like to give it 3 1/2 stars, but it wont let me. A solid, mild VaPer. It smokes cool and sweet. I know some deny the perique, but I can taste it.
5 out of 5
So if you like Erinmore flake Im pretty sure you will like this( made by the same company) I do the fold and stuff method which works fine. It has just a touch of perique like it says but exhale through the nose and its on like donkey kong! I will surely keep this as a regular in my rotation. love it!
5 out of 5
I am sitting here delightedly puffing on my first ever flake in a Grabow grand duke. Though I knew it might be a risky rookie move I chose to fold and stuff. I would say my need to relight has been less than I do on ribbon cuts, apparently this flake and I have an understanding that I just can't get the ribbons on board with. When I first lit it I got about 6 puffs out of the charring light and then my daughter needed something. So it took me a few hours to get back and relight. I spent those hours craving this light citrus and hay taste that I had just begun to experience. This is an automatic favorite for me.

I have tried a few flake tobaccos, and they have all given me a bit of trouble burning, an they all seemed carry along some gnarly tongue bit. Orlik Golden Sliced is one of my favorite summer smokes. It burns perfect, taste great, and never bites! I like to accompany this smoke with a wheat beer.

Newer to pipe smoking but can tell you it's in my everyday rotation and multiple visits are common. Started out an aro smoker then English and have found I like them all but Orlik Golden Sliced... tops in my book.

Very pleasant tobacco flavor with a little something else, citrus? floral? I'm no expert in describing flavors but this one is a winner. This is going to be a favorite.

Being new to pipe smoking I watched many reviews on different tobaccos and this particular tin was a favorite among pipe enthusiasts. I tried and was not disappointed. Easy to smoke, mellow, and cetainly is a well rounded Virginian tobacco. It will be a regular in my rotation.

A very distinguished Virginia flake in the best old English style. For those that dislike Perique (are there such?)the perique flavor is evanescent. A golden Virginia flake still made in the old tradition, I do not remember smoking it in my early days in England. Scandinavian Tobacco's version should hit the spot for those like me that love Virginia flake. I give it 8/10.
