I love this tobacco. It seems to change flavor and aroma constantly as you smoke. Truly a beautiful experience.

I got Bengal Slices and Plum Pudding to test both and for me Bengal Slices ashes out on top. Both are fantastic and worth a try!

Okay, I suppose. But not my cup of tea.

Absolutely love this blend. I have had the honor of visiting many countries during my tours of duty serving our great nation. I Har the opertunity to but real Cuban Cohiba cigars and enjoy them with my friends. This blend and strength reminded me so much of Cohiba cigars that it is my new favorite mixture. The amount receive was more then enough to enjoy in the sample pack and I plan on buying a much larger amount on my next purchase.

Plum pudding is just yummy. Super smooth and mellow. This may be my new favorite.

Bengal Slices is an excellent Latakia blend. Very smooth, no bit; very nice leather smell.

I feel like this edition did not live up to the original tobacco...

Must be rubbed out properly. Fantastic notes, pleasant. Consistent burn with minimal relighting. One of my favorites.

My go to evening smoke

New pipe smoker here and avid book reader and fan of old libraries (will circle back to this). I was smoking aromatics to start with and my local tobacco store (well in Phoenix, everwhere is vape) only had a few selections one of which was Cult Blood Red Moon. The store owner had very little knowledge of pipe tobacco and his supply was limited. So I took CBRM home packed my $25 starter pipe kit from amazon and was floored on how good CBRM was. I quickly jumped onto google and found Pipes and Cigars.com from which I then found out CBRM is one of the highest rated, if not THEE highest rated aromatic, I was shocked! I was so fortunate to stumble upon CBRM to introduce me into the piping world.
Fast forward a month and I decided to dabble into english blends, and did some research and concluded Plum Pudding would be my next tobacco. I was uncertain how I would receive this and was not sure I would like it or not. At first puff, I again was floored. I am a huge fan of old rustic libraries and books. When you open an old book, the aged quality of paper really grabs you, this tobacco reminded me of just this! CBRM got replaced as my daily go-to. When I sit on my porch and open my book to read, I have a good full pipe of Seattles Plum Pudding and transported to an old english library with decades old books aged to wonderment. I ordered the Barrel Aged version and it is coming today. 5/5 stars easy!

really like it bengal slices its very simalr to plum pudding but the anise licorice and less raisin plum flavor makes it different. i love it

As good as it gets, as far as I’m concerned. One of my two favorites right now (the other being Peterson Nightcap). Mid bowl, all those amazing tin notes show up (for me anyhow), and it’s really something special. It’s really just an amazing all around smoking experience unlike any other I’ve had so far.
5 out of 5
Definitely one of my top 5 blends. The anise topping fades into the background quickly, leaving a rich yet accessible latakia/oriental smoke. Just enough cavendish to add a bit of creaminess to help round out the wonderful oriental funkiness and latakia smokiness.
5 out of 5
Wonderful Latakia based tobacco. Not overpowering, pleasant aroma. Just a pleasure to smoke - not to hot. I will be ordering several more!! This is a MUST try!
5 out of 5
I understand the hype. I really like the sour plum like taste in this and the heavy latakia hit. I will be purchasing again
5 out of 5
This is perhaps one of the best mixtures ever and is by far my favorite tobacco to smoke! I was an aromatics only before I tried this beautifully balanced blend! If you are a Latakia fan and enjoy a smoky BBQ flavor and a party of many tobaccos in one bowl, this is for you!

I've never tried an English type tobacco. Well I thought I'd try this one. Plumb pudding is quite popular in England, so I tried this one. The first time I tried it I kinda thought, what the hell do I have here. Ah yes, the flavor grows on you quite fast. I do enjoy a bowel of this from time to time. The only thing is it will leave a ghost flavor. The ghost isn't too bad, a couple bowels of my go to tobacco scares that ghost away. I just took one of my Peterson pipes and dedicated it to this tobacco. I believe I'll be keeping some plumb pudding on hand. It's only right to smoke a Great Britain style tobacco, with a pipe made there. This is just another good tobacco from Sutliff. Give Ole Plum Pudding a try, you just may like it. I've smoked a pipe better than 40 years. This old dude says give the Plum Pudding its fair shot. It's right smooth, I haven't felt any bite and it's right taste

Can't beat the price or the experience that both blends offer. Nice steady, cool burn and flavor to match. I think the Bengal is a bit better. Mississippi River still takes the trophy.

Thanks P&C for the deal! After smoking each, same pipe and pack, I favor the Plum. Reasons? Taste, mouthfeel. Plum is delicious. I don’t know how they do it but 1st 1/2 of bowl is actually tangy. Not sweet. But definitely hits the back of you he with almost a citrus flavor. 2nd 1/2 is pepper and leather. More nutty.
Bengal is excellent too! Must not my 1st choice. Much more mellow and consistent. I found myself puffing for more flavor. The Lat is prominent, and I found it to be more English. Very very good.
Both are great, dry and cool in the pipe, each with its own satisfying notes. I he real winner? Me, for getting a great deal on two excellent tins. Thanks again!

Not really what I expected, its a good blend, will try again later and take more time with it.

Seeing the slices in the can and how no matter how one stuffs their bowl, the 'mix' of this tobacco will come through.
I find that, believe it or not, it tastes better in one of my Missouri Meerschaums.
About halfway down, it really starts to shine and the sweetness comes through almost like a main dish. The 'English' of it though, is *always* there, so that no matter where you are, the bowl has a wonderful state and I would bet that non-smokers might not complain about it either.
This is going to become one of my 'horde' tobaccos, heh, it's just that good.
5 out of 5
Both incredible tobaccos, and I'm glad to have tried them side by side.
I do prefer the Plum Pudding over the Slices, though mostly for the topping added to Slices. They smoke similarly, with Pudding being barely sweeter and Slices having a slight bit more complexity. I look forward to trying the White version of Slices to see if that compares more similarly to Plum Pudding.

I am new to pipe smoking, so take this review as you will. I find this tobacco to be very pleasant, and plan on keeping this in my rotation. for the first third of the bowl, when sipping, I first get a nice hint of a cross between anise and molasses. To me the finish is of a light leather. I find this to be a smooth tobacco and have not experienced any tongue bite as of yet, however I do focus on slow small sips of my tobacco and exhaling though the pipe more often then not. I have three other english blends, and I like them all, and really can not compare them since they are each their own experience. I bought this one in a bundle when I bought plumb pudding and figured for an extra $5, why not? I do not regret the purchase and am glad I have another good tobacco in my collection.
4 out of 5
Very good blend, a subtle twist on the English blend. I like to switch between 965 and Plum Pudding. This allows my palate to better appreciate both.
5 out of 5
Both are great, but I must say Plum Pudding is my favorite.
I am one of those who cannot tell you why, just that it is the way it is.
4 out of 5
I don’t know that English/Balkan blends are going to be my favorites, though I am relatively new to piping. Maybe my palate will develop into liking more. This has a lot of raves though so I of course had to try. From what I can tell it is a great blend, however I could not give the 5 star based on my likes as they stand. I am looking forward to trying the barrel aged version as well down the road, as I am cellaring that one for a time.
4 out of 5
Amazingly good smoke. Extremely smooth. I will definitely be buying more of this.
4 out of 5
The best I have smoked so far.
3 out of 5
Bengal Slices, no contest. Plum Pudding was a disappointment. Never had either one before and based on the reviews I expected a closer contest. Plum Pudding is weak and boring. Bengal Slices is not the best but has a much better flavor.
5 out of 5
This is a really smooth, tasty, warm tobacco, very easy on the pallet, lights well good amount of smoke, it floats me away to the smokers realm of oneness.Light up and drift away.
5 out of 5
One of my favorite smokes it’s sweet, smoky, meaty, and the oriental provide a beautiful incense spice like cloves or allspice. People talk about this being a lat bomb, but I smoke a lot of lat so yo me this is the depth of flavor from a ballkan done perfectly
5 out of 5
A continual pipe smoker for ages ! Stareted with the old favorites like Granger, Half & Half and Prince Albert . ALL good blends . But lately I began trying out some different ones , and there are many that are worth trying !
But after everything is said and done my nearing 80 palate has definately settled on the Seattle Pipe Club ---PLUM PUDDING ! t has all the delights anyone could expect in the well established tobacco blend !
It took me by surprise , but it is now my # 1 go to daily delight . Try it folks , and you WILL agree.
5 out of 5
This mixture is amazing. It needs little drying time, burns great and is such a fun blend. It has tangy notes, little mushroom/ meaty notes from the Perique and in crumble cake form has nuance with each smoke. One of my new favorites in the rotation
5 out of 5
One of the best
5 out of 5
Bengal slices have a great texture and I like to blend them with other tobaccos as well.
4 out of 5
First time smoking a tobacco of this type. I’m generally an aromatic smoker, but I do enjoy non-aromatics from time to time. This mixture hits me with just the right amount of tobacco flavor that I’d expect from a good cigar. Overall I was pleased with this tobacco, and I look forward to more enjoyment from it in months to come.
5 out of 5
It became instantly clear why this one is such a big hit in my first bowl, like with the Bengals blend the Cavendish won me over.
5 out of 5
I love love love the smell of this one when it burns. I'm a cavendish anything fan anyway but the anise oriental kick is so next level.
5 out of 5
Both of these fall just barely outside of what I would normally purchase or reach to try but they get enough good press to eliminate any worry of buyer's regret after smoking. I started with Plum Pudding and found it to be an enjoyable smoke, after a handful of bowls I moved on to others in my stash and eventually got back to Bengal Slices. The smell in the tin isn't my favorite at all, it reminds me of old candy where Plum Pudding has a fruit smell that is very enjoyable. After the first 20 minutes of a bowl of Bengal Slices I was already sure it was the winner in this battle since there was no memory of a "wow" while smoking Plum Pudding but couldn't be sure until after a few more smokes and then revisiting Plum Pudding. Sure enough, the last two bowls were good but didn't compare. There's a richness to Bengal Slices that Plum Pudding doesn't have. Both are good blends that obviously earned their reputation but the Slices are what I'll restock down the road
5 out of 5
There isn’t a Seattle Pipe club blend I don’t like, but Plum Pudding really shines.
5 out of 5
One of my favorite blends, the rich Latakia really shines.
5 out of 5
This smoke is a wonderful experience. Im not so good at pulling out exact flavors but dang this stuff is enjoyable. I tend to stay away from aeromatics and and some english blends are gross to me. This is a well balanced experience with rich smoke that is not too hot, at times I experienced a sweetness and at other times during a retrohale I had a quite pleasant vinegar/ ammonia sensation. I know it sounds crazy! It was a unique sensation but to me it wasnt repulsive but rather quite plesant. I will definitely add this to my cellar.

Love this tobacco!

My order came fast and the excise issue seems to have been resolved.

As a Plum Pudding smoker I was intrigued by Bengal Slices. I broke off a chunk and broke it into pieces, Peter it dry for a few hours and it lights up well. I noticed this needs drying time because it gets wet and it can be hard to stay lit otherwise. Unless I’m breaking it apart wrong. The taste is similar to plum pudding but there’s something more mysterious that I can’t pinpoint. Overall this tobacco is great and will be part of my permanent rotation!
5 out of 5
Perfectly balanced blend. Great flavors. One of my new favorites.
5 out of 5
plum pudding and bengal slices like this both
5 out of 5
Let me start of by saying that I agree with the fact that both blends are great in their own way. These 2 are oriental forward english blends (balkan type - think Penzance, Balkan o.s.m or Star of the east/ Quiet Nights). I find the Plum Pudding more appealing (imo) as I find it to be a bit more consistent in terms of its flavors being well blended. The Bengal Slices are similar, but with the flavors popping out individually from time to time but with the anise/liquorice top not ever present but nowhere near overbearing (think War Horse Bar). I am biased towards the Plum Pudding and compare other "balkan" blends to it (even Penzance, I know ) however I do also keep Bengal Slices stocked regularly as well. Hope this helps, ymmv and to each his own. The battle deal is a good price point to be willing to try both if you've never had either... don't miss out on 2 great blends!
5 out of 5
One of the most complex and tasteful blends I have ever had, smooth and no bite.
4 out of 5
Very good. Very mellow. In the larger, 2.5 inch depth bowl i packed, the latakia showed up first, then the oriental about half way down, with the rest of it sort of providing background jazz the whole way. I thought it was very tame until i got to the bottom of the bowl, where it pretty much backhand slapped me across the face. I can't say it takes my top spot, but good job here.
5 out of 5
I absolutely love this stuff and could smoke it all day long. I had heard so much about it and finally decided to give it a try. It's definitely a most excellent tobacco and I would totally stock my seller full of it except the price point is a little painful for that.
4 out of 5
When I first purchased this blend I liked it but it is pricy and have not reordered due the two ounce tin price. I did not find this blend to be an all day smoke but I did smoke on occasions. Having less than an ounce left in the tin I added Lane 1-Q at a ratio of one part Plum Pudding with one part Lane I-Q. Now I find this can be an all day smoke for me. Mixing these two blends I now have a more desirable combined price point for my new blend. It has a great room note with a new taint of vanilla. The Black Cavendish, Cavendish, Latakia, Oriental, Perique and Virginia along with the Lane 1-Q have a great balance with no dottle, no tongue bite and will burn nicely to a white ash with very few relights. It works for me and you might enjoy it also.
5 out of 5
Both packed with flavor and smoke well. I would say out of the 2, Plum Pudding suits my tastes better. That being said I consistantly reach for both of these in my cabinet, and will buy more of both.
4 out of 5
Purchased as part of a Battle of the Blends w/ Plum Pudding. While I much prefer Plum Pudding, they are very similar and I will gladly finish the tin. Not sure if I would reorder, but my tastes shift with with my mood and this is growing on me with each bowl.
Definitely worth trying.
4 out of 5
Out of the two the plum pudding I would have to say is the best. I'm new to pipe smoking but plum pudding is a rich
Smoky spicy smooth tobacco. It quickly became my number one tobacco.
5 out of 5
Great stuff that has earned a top spot in my rotation.
5 out of 5
I liked it better then Plum Pudding.
4 out of 5
Pretty good. No significant tongue bite. Smokes pretty smooth and painless. Has kind of a peppery taste. I like it, but I wouldn't steal it out of your fridge.
5 out of 5
Also just right
5 out of 5
A very nice oriental forward (balkan) type English blend with a great top note of anise/licorice. The top note is not overbearing, all the tobacco leaf comes through nicely. If you enjoy Plum Pudding or Quiet Nights, you may want to give this one a try...
4 out of 5
I would give 4.5 stars if allowed. This blend is a match made in heaven. If you like Latakia do not hesitate to purchase this tobacco; you will not be disappointed. Rich in flavor but no one tobacco is overpowering, however you will definitely notice the Latakia. There is a slight salty after taste from time to time. If your looking for something different (in a good way) give it a try!
5 out of 5
Great taste, burns evenly and well, but has a pretty good nicotine hit...sometimes too much for me. I like it, though.
4 out of 5
I like the overall flavor of the Bengal Slices. A lot of TLC went into this blend and very versatile overall. I personally could wake up and smoke this one as opposed to Plum Pudding for evenings only. Complex, robust yet mellow. Smell and room note are there. Would be interested in the other versions of this as well.
3 out of 5
If you like Bengal Slices but need double the punch, go with plum pudding. Very complex, flavor grows on you but more of a summer spicy barbeque blend to me. Quality and flavor are there. Probably not a regular smoke for me but I can appreciate it for what it is.
5 out of 5
I wasn't planning on even packing my pipe when my shipment came in today. I got a lot of different tobaccos and as I was putting them all away, I was smelling each one. The second I smelled Bengal slices, I changed my mind about packing my pipe. I HAD to taste it and I was NOT disappointed. This stuff is everything I'm looking for in a blend and I can't wait to try it after it ages for a while. This is my new favorite blend!
3 out of 5
Good, but my wife didn't like the room note lol
4 out of 5
Great blend and bold complex taste. Burns cool and lights well just after tracking the tin. It’s in my top three favorites.

Excellent flavor. Easy smoking tobacco.

Great if your into burley, toasty candy flavor, with not much of an after taste, but brilliantly composed and dually recognized, as a fashion statement to enthusiasts out there. Stands up well to the major leagues for sure.
5 out of 5
One of the best I've tried. Really creative tobacco, with a nice aroma. Very unique and well balanced for me. Nice cavendish variety. Always will buy this blend, can't get enough of it!
5 out of 5
Fantastic tobacco that instantly became one of my favorite blends. Indeed I can smoke this everyday and definitely getting more!
5 out of 5
I figured when I received my first tin of Plum Pudding well over a year ago, it would be a dried fruit tasting, gross over exaggeration of flavor. Then I got it. OH WOW. Instead it is a journey through the depths of bbq and other smoking flavors that culminates in a perfect smoke for the newbie or the veteran smoker. This is a tobacco that I enjoy to smoke when I am firing up my charcoal grill and getting ready to throw some ribeyes on there. The flavors that I smell and taste are a perfect complement. Between this and the special reserve, YUM.

Very creamy smoke with wonderful flavor throughout. The perique is in perfect quantity to give a spicy finish to a great tasting Balkan blend. I will be purchasing again.

An smooth smoke, well balanced in flavor although sometimes the Oriental takes precedence over all very enjoyable.

Funky flavor, something off. Don't enjoy this one

Great flavor and easy to pack in a pipe it made a great combo with my corn cob pipe but the smell to me just smells like burned natural tobacco. But over all its a awesome smoke.

This is one of my favorites. Really good and cool smoke

My go to tobacco.
A bit pricey, but worth it.
Good, strong flavor with a sweetness.
Especially good in the first half of the bowl.
I highly recommend trying this.
4 out of 5
I found this tobacco to be less of a Lat bomb than others have described.
Slightly sour on the Oriental side but overall a smooth smoke when really dry.
5 out of 5
Holy, high god of tobaccos, please don't make me choose between these. Both are exceptionally phenomenal. Bengal slices with it's delicious topping and similarity in softness and sweetness to Plum pudding. Plum pudding with it's deep, dark and deliciously soft smoke. I can't choose I just can't, I love these both and will be purchasing more of both in the future.
2 out of 5
I wasn't impressed at all with these. Granted I purchased this to expand my growing collection knowing that I hate perique and orientals. I am sure lovers of perique and orientals will love these blends. They are not bad by any means... just not for me.
5 out of 5
As a new pipe smoker, I was having a difficult time finding a blend that really stood out for me. I was contemplating if I would even continue with a pipe at all.....until I tried plum pudding. Wow, the flavor is outstanding. To me it’s a mixture of Smokey and sweet/sour with a little bit of a light bitterness in some spots. The flavors balance very well and I couldn’t enjoy it more.

excellent smoke!!!
5 out of 5
A lot of moving parts in this one. Takes patience and about 1/2-2/3rds of a bowl to reach full development. I recommend the slowest tempo you can possibly do using the breathe method. As you maintain a cool smoke, and a constant amount of smoke in your mouth without fully expelling, and an occasional retro-hale, all the different tobaccos will take a turn and eventually combine into something great. Smoke it too fast and you’ll have a bowl of peppercorns to deal with; and wonder why anyone would this smoke spicy manure with any pleasure. Cheers!
5 out of 5
I LOVED it and ordered the 8 oz
4 out of 5
Good, mellow smoke, especially if mixed with something like Cult Conspiracy, as I do. Burns a little hot near the bottom of the pipe. However, it makes a good, clean-burning smoke if crumbled and packed properly.
5 out of 5
I love my English/Balkan/Scottish blend. PP has to be one of the best of the genre. Well balanced, flavorful, rich and engaging experience. Smokes best when allowed to dry. If you've not had this all the rave your read is spot on. This is one great blend!
3 out of 5
The tobacco itself was fine. The method of packaging creates dry chunks of pressed tobacco, too big to crumble up and smoke without first breaking it down and re-hydrating it.
4 out of 5
Amazing blend. I prefer something more aromatic and still liked this.
5 out of 5
Definitely a favorite of mine. Great flavor

Delicious. Tastes almost likr plumes in chocolate smoked pudding. A must buy!

Latikia lovers that dont mibd pereque in the mix will love this. Like latikia try this anyway!!

I finally put my finger on the taste of this tobacco. It’s like smoking a bar of cheap soap. The taste is so pungent that half way through the bowl your mouth and throat are coated with a soapy film that even water won’t wash away. So if your the sort of person who likes drinking used bath water, this is the tobacco for you. Enjoy!
3 out of 5
This tobacco was okay. It has a unique flavor that is hard to identify, which is ultimately too strong in the end. Bengal Slices is one that I’ll keep in the drawer and smoke occasionally. It’s certainly not in my regular rotation.
5 out of 5
Really like this blend. Earthy,fruity,smoky
5 out of 5
Amazing tin note. Smells slightly like red man and mosquite barbecue. Reminds me of lodge pole pineand sage brush burning together, mixed with a tangy sweet citrus note. Very stunning room note, and flavor. Smokes VERY cool and smooth in a missouri meech huck fin pipe. Sutliff voodoo has such a similar tin note, i believe it might be the spare trimmings. Sutliff fox and hound has a similar scent and flavor, with a very different balance, much more of the sharp virginia taste and less of the smoky accent is found in the fox and hound. Fox and hound always gives me moderate to severe tongue bite after half a bowl, feel like i could smoke bengal slices all day with no tongue bite

As always you guys delivered on time and really enjoyed the Plum Pudding Tobacco. Thank you.
5 out of 5
Bengal Slices is the closest blend that you will find to the "unicorn" tobacco called Penzance. Same sweet lat taste and this is one that you can find. Get it while you can, before taxes make it unavailable. You won't regret it!

Wonderful aroma, great flavors (especially the Oriental tobaccos) and a nice burn. Bengal Slices are a classic for a reason!

I wasn't sure how I felt about this after the first pipe, but after a week or so, it's easily become a favorite. The flavor sticks with you after smoking and pairs well with other things.

What a lovely experience. Smokey, piney and aromas I can’t quite pinpoint. Smokes like a fine Scotch tastes. Fantastic.

My absolute favorite pipe tobacco. It doesn't taste like plum pudding, but it tastes and smells great. This is what I think of when I think of pipe tobaco. Great aroma and highly recommended.

This is one of my two favorite tobaccos (so far). A nice and flavorful English/Latakia. Highly recommended.
5 out of 5
This was our favorite tobacco that we purchased. We got a tip from the mud chop piper that this was a really good tobacco and we are not disappointed. You do need to break it up a little bit but it is a great blend and the balance is perfect 👌
5 out of 5
Bengal Slices is the perfect lat bomb. The latakia is by far the main player in this blend; it is rich, smokey, and strong. There is a topping that remains consistent throughout the bowl, which to me tastes like the topping on Peterson’s University Flake. University Flake consists of extremely high-quality and well-balanced tobacco which does not require a topping, in my opinion. The topping doesn’t ruin that tobacco, but it just kind of hangs out and does its own thing. It’s like candy; you consume it for its own sake. There’s nothing necessarily wrong with candy, but I’m not a big fan of it. Bengal Slices is different, however. The topping serves to refresh the palate and prevents the latakia from becoming tiresome. I can smoke a large bowl of it slowly and enjoy every puff. I’ve tried countless blends, and this stuff easily makes my top 10 list of favorite tobaccos—perhaps even my top 3 list. It has become my solid favorite latakia blend (it beats my previous favorite, Squadron Leader, by a mile; it is on par with G.L. Pease’s Key Largo, but I consider that to be more of a cigar leaf blend as the cigar leaf comes through at least as much as the latakia). To make a long story short: Bengal Slices is wonderful, and I highly recommend it.
4 out of 5
The Bengel slices were a nice treat, a great after dinner smoke but I got to say the Plum pudding makes for an excellent all day smoke.
5 out of 5
good stuff. wife hates the aroma!
5 out of 5
This stuff is way too expensive but way to good not to buy it. I smoke this when I need a break from my C & D blends. It's damn good.
5 out of 5
I really liked this tobacco. I got it along with Plum Pudding and I think I prefer the Bengal Slices over PP. I'm not sure how to describe the flavor notes other than really great to me. I get a touch of the Anise. I'm just struggling to put a finger on the flavor notes. If you like things like Plum Pudding, Haunted Bookshop, Habana Daydream and the like - I would say you owe it to yourself to give this a try. I took mine out of the tin and put it in a mason jar for a couple weeks and I think that made it even better.
4 out of 5
I like mixing with a less potent tobacco. It's not an every day for me, but I like straight virginia's
5 out of 5
This plum pudding is a must have if your a aromatic smoker. This Cyprian Latakia is is one of those must have Tobaccos. Plum pudding was a big factor in changing the way I felt about Latakias, now I can’t get enough of it. This would a comfort smoke for any piper, new or experienced.
4 out of 5
A classic blend from golden age of British colonialism. Splendid tobacco, much recommended to a lover of English blends.
5 out of 5
This stuff has ruined me from any type of latakia blend. I can't try any others without comparing it to this one. I Love the cut, the tin note reminds me of beef jerky and the smoke is smooth as fresh paint. I always try to branch out but I keep coming back

This is definitely one of my top five blends and is in my rotation. This non-aromatic has so much flavor and things going on. All of the components are blended in such a way that non are overpowering. I like Latakia only when it is used to mellow out other tobaccos and in Plum Pudding it is a great asset. The nic-hit is less than medium and will not give your stomach the rumba. The room note is fine, but don't expect raves. Once the tobacco gets lit and stays lit, it has few relights. It doesn't burn hot or bite, but I smoke at a leisurely pace. It has a good aftertaste. This is such a nice smooth smoke that is a perfect lay back and relaxing experience. Plum Pudding may be my favorite smoke, but there are so many great tobacco blends to choose from. Whether you are a Aromatic or Non-aromatic smoker, you can't go wrong with this Balkan blend. Highly recommended.

Great! Never boring!

Very nicely balanced flavor. I'm not disappointed at all.

Big and bold with a peculiar tin note that reminds me of chewing tobacco. No bite. Some interesting sweetness mixed with the orientals and Latakia. Not a Virginia sweetness, more like a cavendish sweetness. Very enjoyable. Will buy again.

This blend comes in thick slices, feels a bit dry but smokes perfectly for me. Break it up roughly, and pack it loose, and get ready for an incredibly fine-tuned and balanced flavor of earthy, smoky, sweet, sour, a little hint of spice, with a deep body.
For me the smoke leaves a very rich and pleasant aftertaste.
This is my new favorite smoke.

I'm new to pipe smoking, having smoked aromatics and wanting to try something different, I bought both of these blends as a deal bundle after hearing good reviews on both tins.
Both PP and BS are similar in how they taste but their are slight differences.
In PP, their is a dry fruit top note and after lighting a few bowls, the flavor takes on many different layers of fruit, and has a slight peppery note (probably the perique?)
In BS there is a anise, clove-ish top note but it is not very prevalent after lighting a bowl, the flavor like PP, tends to be complex and instead of taking on the dry fruitier notes like PP, there are slight citrus notes that play a part in the blend and a slight clove taste.
Both blends crumble easily and are very enjoyable. I find are best smoked after a long day at work or before going to bed. The nicotine strength in both blends isn't too strong like others may be. However, it is mild and is balanced.
The only cons I can find is that BS is slightly harder to keep lit but it may be due to me just still learning on smoking a pipe.
I also advise that these blends shouldn't be smoked on quickly. Take your time smoking these blends, or you will risk getting an unpleasant aftertaste from burning out the tobacco too quickly.
If you like finding and picking apart rich and complex tobacco blends or want to delve into something different from the usual, I'd highly reccomend checking out these two tobaccos.
You really can't go wrong with either one.

Glad to find it again ! I enjoyed Bengal Slices 40 years ago !

My favorite blend. Perfect balance and strength. Just the right amount of kick, sweet, spicy, smokey and complex.

No. It doesn't have bits of real tiger in it. But it has the power and finesse of a Bengal Tiger. This has become one of my regular favorites thanks once again to the resurrection this blend got from R.O. -Again... It is the legend.

Nice sweet smoky blend for the Fall. Love that there’s no aftertaste when you’re done. A little goes a long way. Great after dinner smoke.

I'm working on my 3rd tin of Plum Pudding and I still go back and forth on it. It'll always be in my rotation, don't get me wrong, but do I LOVE it? Some days I think "my god this is a truly sophisticated and incredible blend--totally worth the price." Other days it won't stay lit, the flavors are unruly and unbalanced, and I simply can't seem to figure out what I enjoyed about this blend in the first place. It's an ever-lasting gobstopper of smoking experience and I do recommend it to everyone at least once. See if it's right for you.

This is the best pipe tobacco I’ve ever smoked. I’m new at this and don’t know much about “complexity” or “blend”,I do know the amount is well above what I expected.

So much happening. Fine rooms of mahogany leather and deep cherried woods. Horse farms in the distance. Latakia oriental Baker Street sleuthing dreams.

I loved it. I didn't smell or tasted Plum but it is a dark fruity taste that made me a fan. Ordering more right now.

Both beautifully pressed tobaccos. I prefer the plum pudding throughout the day but the topnote in the bengal is perfectly balanced. As a new pipe smoker coming off RYO its been hard to establish a comfort zone while exploring many various styles. This was around my 10th pipe blend and i hope to revisit both of these soon.
5 out of 5
It's packaged with unusually thick soft plug like slices. The flavor is smooth, sweet and mild. A superb blend. No shelf is complete without a few tins of Plum Pudding.
5 out of 5
My very first time I have smoked Latakia and I have to tell you, it was way way better than I thought! Easy on the tongue, distinct flavor, and actually a bit more enjoyable than some of the aromatics that are out there...
5 out of 5
Honestly, the first time I tried this I thought it tasted like body odor. I almost threw it away. Then I tried a bowl of Early Morning Pipe and I really liked it. It had a mellower version of that flavor. I decided to give plum pudding another try. I LOVE Plum Pudding now. I dont know what happened. I can't stop thinking about how much I love this flavor. My description of it sounds very negative, but it isn't. It really reminds me of body odor, bicycle inner tube and leather gloves. It doesn't sound good from my description but it has become probably my favorite taste ever. I feel like a jerk because I really love this blend and I know I'm not conveying that well. Give PP a shot and if you don't like it give it one more try. It took 2 bowls for me to fall in love with this, but I am hooked. I absolutley love it.

I didn’t understand what all the fuss was about until I finally gave it a try. I’m so glad I did. This is the most satisfying tobacco I’ve smoked in the last 6 months. It’s superb tobaccos are delicious, smoky, spicy all at the same time. I especially like the Latakia and oriental mix. Perfect blend that burns slow and nice. It’s aroma is so pleasing and addictive.
5 out of 5
Bengal slices is sweet with a complex yet subtle sour note. It smells wonderful in the tin and even better when smoking. The room note is pleasant and distinctive. It’s a great tobacco to sip slowly. Sweetness is noticeable but balanced with the other notes of spice and raisin. Excellent. So glad I finally tried it.

Best stuff ever. This is the perfect smoke.

This aptly named blend recalls delicious flavors of spices like clove, nutmeg, and allspice, along with its sweet aroma of dried fruits.

Wow. I read a few reviews singing the praises of this tobacco and the way it was described, I had to try it. The first few puffs after the initial char light made me think, this is good, perhaps not exceptional. After relighting and all the way to the bottom of the bowl, I thoroughly enjoyed it. This is truly a delicious, smooth, cool burning product. The smoke is rich and flavorful with absolutely no tongue bite. I'm hooked!

I'm just coming back to "pipes"..Ive been trying several things but I didnt like this one.

Smoking flavor and in tin aroma I prefer plum pudding, however Bengal slices has a better room aroma, makes my room smell like a tobacco shop.

Great tobacco at fair prices.

This is nice burning, smooth smoke. Flavorful without any burn. One of my favorites.
5 out of 5
Oh wow! This is quite possibly the finest blend I've ever smoked. It checked every box.
4 out of 5
This is just aromatic enough and smooth enough to enjoy any time of the day, either straight or blended with something else 50/50, like Cult Conspiracy. The only problem with Bengal Slices is that I seem to go through a can about twice as fast as the other, looser blends. Not Bengal Slices' fault though; the company actually packs a couple of ounces MORE tobacco in the can than the 1.75 oz advertised. So buy two cans at a time and enjoy!
5 out of 5
This has been the only tin I’ve bought twice. I taste something different every time I zen out with this. Great balance of flavors and tobacco types. I highly recommend.
5 out of 5
Very smooth with a good balance of Latakia. Slightly smokier than Plumb Pudding. No tongue bite.
5 out of 5
What can I say that has not been said of SPC Plumb Pudding. Everything about it is pure smoking bliss. Not an everyday smoke, but a treat when you get a break from all life throws at you. There is a reason this is held in such high regard, quality. Recommended.
4 out of 5
Great mellow English that can be an all day smoke. Quality Lat that is not overpowering. Delivers a clean smooth and consistent flavor throughout. Pick some up, you will not be disappointed.
5 out of 5
I am new to pipe smoking so when I opened plum pudding I was not expecting such a smoky tin note. When I begrudgingly loaded my first bowl and started to coax the first few flavors from my char light I almost had to check which tobacco I had loaded up. The smoke was not smoky, It was delicate and complex. There are so many flavors you taste individually and simultaneously. It was a very pleasant surprise. I could not wait to try Bengal Slices next and enjoyed it just as much. Bengal has a slight taste of Ouzo(Anise) in the smoke. If I had to choose a favorite the answer would be different each day. They are both GREAT!
5 out of 5
Had a friend tell me about this and purchased a few tins to try out. It's become one of my standbys that will always have a place on the tobacco shelf.
5 out of 5
This blend is awesome, this was my second English blend and now it my favorite.
5 out of 5
Love this tobacco so much. As soon as I opened the tin, I knew I was going to love it. Complex and rich, this tobacco creates a very satisfying smoke with a depth of flavor I wasn't expecting. This is now an easy choice for my go-to smoke.

Good, but I am into looking for tonnage in my Perique now.

The ultimate in a English blend.

I can't compete with other users' reviews; I don't have the lingo. When I received my first tin of Bengal Slices and stuffed some into my pipe and puffed on it, I was blown away. I love this stuff! I can't explain it, but it has an almost magical flavor. I detect some anise it, which is one my favorite flavors. However, I do not use it straight; I use it as an additive to blends I make containing Virginias and other blends to spice them up.
4 out of 5
As a pretty "no fuss" occasional pipe smoker (a couple times per month) I am just as happy smoking something like Captain Black as I am anything else. But, given all the hype surrounding this blend, I thought I'd give it a try.
On a positive note, all the different tobaccos that are in this blend are all extremely well balanced. You can taste just about all of them, but none really steal the show. I was also pleasantly surprised by the sweetness coming likely rom the cavendish component, again perfectly balanced. Tastes great.
There are fewer negatives than positives, but it was a little tough for me to keep it lit. It's a little pricier than your average tin. And finally, with all the hype I was honestly expecting a little better - is it a great blend? Yes. Is it the best like the hype would have you believe? Probably not.
Overall - complex, perfectly blended, and pleasantly sweet. Pick a tin up if you get the chance, but don't feel like you're missing out if you don't!

I have always enjoyed caked tobacco and this is a dandy.

Try this tobacco. My first Balkan, and my only regret is that I waited this long to sample it. Lives up to the great reviews, will be a permanent part of my rotation.

Plum Pudding came as a recommendation and I’m so thankful I took it. Absolutely fantastic! Tin is fantastic, perfect moisture, easy to pack, and perfect smooth smoke. Can’t buy enough of it!

Great taste...lasts a long time, too :)

Well, I'm one who prefers aromatic tobacco -the flavors of caramel are tops in my book. That said, the Bengal Slices are pretty good as regular tobacco goes. I do like a bit of Latakia with my Cavendish, plus, the orientals are nice. It's a pleasant change for me.

Bought for my husband and he absolutely loves it!

I got this in a head to head with Plum Pudding which is a great deal and I hope they keep it on the site. I can’t tell which one I like the best so I keep ordering both!

I will make this simple: if I was a castaway on an island I would want crates of this stuff with me. It is that good. A rich, satisfying english style smoke, I am adding to my stock of it.
5 out of 5
I’m a beginner piper and have been smoking aromatics and wanted to try something non-aromatic and I made the best choice in picking Plum Pudding! I did make the bad decision of buying the 2oz tin instead of the 8oz....
4 out of 5
When I'm in the mood plum pudding is great, it gets 4 stars. Bengal slices aren't that good to me. They taste somewhat similar but the sour taste at the end of the plum pudding is what wins me over
5 out of 5
In the last 3 months I've bought $180 worth of pipe tobacco from this website (not one type over 3oz) to learn learn as much as I could, about what I like. This may seem extreme, but I'm trying to replace my cigarette addiction. This is the best one so far. Iv'e dabbled with pipes for years, but only occasionally. This is a home run for me. Thanks Russ! Fiddlesticks is great too, but this one is so good it makes me forget where my cigarettes are.

SPC's Plum Pudding is a very pleasant tobacco that smells and tastes great, burns cool, and is sweet without being cloying. Go ahead, buy it! You know that you want to!
5 out of 5
Both smoke and taste great. I would describe their taste as the following- bengal slices is 50% leather 25%campfire smoke 25% earth. Plum Pudding is 60%campfire smoke 20%earth and 20%leather. At first I thought Pudding was the flavor for me. But as time went by, turns out I was reaching for the Slices and it was gone before the pudding. Both excellent smokes though for fall/winter/early spring. If had to pick 1 though, I think id go with Bengal Slices as the winner
5 out of 5
Excellent value! Both tobaccos are great and full of flavor.
5 out of 5
Omg, fantastic. I love the real rich robust flavor and the creamy smoke . A great tobacco for those just starting to experience Latakia. Bengal Slices is a winner. Hey I wouldn’t mind a free tin. Thanks.

love em both bengal slices and plum pudding but then i tried mississippi river. Man, i could drink that stuff

I bought this with a bundle deal. Bengal slices vs plum pudding. It was pretty good but I think the plum pudding is better.
5 out of 5
It took me a few smokes to get it but it definitely grew on me. Medium flavored with a good amount of bite.
5 out of 5
If I had to choose between the two it would be very hard. Both are great! My choice would be Bengal Slices.
4 out of 5
Both are exceptionally good in flavor. Only slight difference between the two is the Plum Pudding has a notably mellow smoke where the Bengal slices are a bit more on the milder side.

Okay, so I've been smoking a pipe for about a year now, and I have previously gravitated to mostly VA and VaPer blends, though I found I love some English blends like Petersons Old Dublin and Ashton's Consummate Gentleman. I didn't quite know how I feel about Latakia until this morning, this is on a whole new level. It is deep and rich and this blend has to be the smoothest English style blend I've tasted yet. I'm definitely adding this to my rotation.

Favorite so far!

This is really outstanding. It has an amazing complexity of smoke and whiskey - without tasting flavored. Just fantastic.
I did splash a little Glenfiddich into the jar for some extra punch!

Excellent choice for a well balanced, complex blend of Latakia, mature Virginias, Perique, Cavendish and Orientals that make for a superb bowl of enjoyment.

This was my first non-aromatic blend and I absolutely loved it. I'm a newer pipe smoker and am building up my rotation, and this will definitely be keeping it's spot. Very tasty!

Not a connoisseur but also not a drug store blend fan, this crumbles, burns very well, top note is subtle and very enjoyable, I prefer to smoke this nice and slow inside somewhere so the drafts/wind don't detract from the aroma. As good as it gets folks.

Wow!!! I’m a novice pipe smoker and haven’t tried many blends yet but I must say that this tobacco is amazing. You can taste all the different flavors and it burns so smooth. I’m definitely going to purchase more.

When I first popped the tin, at first I was cautious - the smell reminded me of Drum Halfzware rolling tobacco, which always left a foul aftertaste in my mouth when I was still a cigarette smoker. Then I crumbled up a slice, rubbed it out a little, and packed it into a big cob...
Ho. Lee. Crap.
Plum Pudding is delicious. I like it more every time I smoke it. The sheer complexity of the flavor is phenomenal, and I can only compare it to an good single-malt Scotch. It’s like puffing on a slice of well-smoked brisket and a dark chocolate brownie in the best possible way. Might be my new favorite. If you haven’t tried it yet, do. Just. Do.
5 out of 5
I was probably a little late to the bandwagon, but Plum Pudding is definitely one of the top 5 tobaccos I've smoked. I stocked up on a few tins of it, so hopefully it will age well. I'll definitely be coming back and buying more and more of this!

I just finished off my tin of Bengal Slices, and I enjoyed it from start to finish.
4 out of 5
wow, what an interesting smoke. in my opinion it has some qualities (flavors) similar to plum pudding or sutliff krumble kake english blend, but with a similar (if not same) top note as war horse bar (red) - sort of an anise type note. it is a great blend in its own, consistent and well balanced. definately worth a try if you you enjoy english/balkan type blends
5 out of 5
this blend is outstanding. very well rounded and balanced. consistent flavor throughout the entire bowl. one of my all time best blends.

Upon taking up the challenge to try these two powerhouses, I have to judge the winner to be Plum Pudding...it still is a winner that’s tough to beat

I enjoyed. Very satisfying.

Saw the ads in your catalog and decided to give this blend a try. It is great! Just as advertised, it is a unique English blend with an amazing top note. Smooth, smoky, flavorful with what I think is a great aroma. Already ordered a few more tins. This blend is really a must try for smokers of English or Balkan blends.
5 out of 5
This tobacco gets better and better the more I smoke it. I love the changing taste and the crumbling flakes. It's my second all-time favorite tobacco and I keep bunch of it cellar-ed. This is a unique tobacco that everyone should have in their rotation.
5 out of 5
Both delicious blends. Plum Pudding has more flavor punch though for sure. They taste about the same flavor wise, with maybe more depth to the Plum Pudding as well. Plum Oudding wins the battle, but they are both delicious blends.
4 out of 5
I bought this mississippi river and pp special reserve all at once, i rather enjoy this blend its very intense and has numerous complicated flavors that my palette is simply not developed enough to pick out just yet but it is tasty. It smokes pretty cool and dry although needed a bit of drying time for me. The special reserve I'm gonna leave unopened to age for a year or two although im sure that's going to be difficult.
5 out of 5
Glad I tried it. Tastes great, burns well and no tongue bite at all.
4 out of 5
Good smoke, but not a fan of the insence aftertaste... For some reason it is just to much for me. I like a tobacco that tastes like tobacco and this is not it.
However I could tell right away that this is a work of art. Very complex taste. Enjoy!
5 out of 5
Great tobacco. Has a wonderful arroma. I would buy this again.
5 out of 5
Now one of my all time favorites. A real rich, Balkan style blend flake.

Plum pudding and Mississippi river have to be my favorite smoke right now. I can smoke both of these any time of day and sit back and relax.

I am still quite the novice, however I find my taste is solidifying towards English and Baltic blends. What I find pleasing about this blend is that the taste is layered compared to other Baltic blends I have tried. If Plum Pudding were a beer, it would be a complex IPA. The tobacco is a little spicy up front and mellows as you smoke through it. It leaves an awesome aftertaste in my mouth when I have finish the bowl (I have never experienced this from smoking any tobacco before). My only complaint is that Plum Pudding tends to be a difficult initial light up if I don't pack the bowl perfectly. It is the standard for me by which I compare other English and Baltic blends.
4 out of 5
Nice mellow smoke. Easy to smoke all day long.
5 out of 5
This will become one of my regulars. Flavor is very complex and changes as you go down the bowl. I had no problem keeping it lit and leaves very little dottle. Straight out of the tin, it wasn’t too wet or dry. It’s a very relaxing smoke with a decent nicotine hit; wouldn’t recommend as a morning or early afternoon lunch. Perfect for after work or before bed.
5 out of 5
I get a different taste marriage with every new bowl. The Latakia is not strong like the description would have you believe. Cool burning. No tongue bite. Thick smoke. It's kind of addictive. Slightly sweet, a little spice. The more you smoke, the more you'll like the complexity.
5 out of 5
It's either this or Bengal Slices as my top Latakia blend.
I'm trying to cellar as much of both as my budget will allow as I find this and Bengal Slices as the only two tobaccos I wish to regularly smoke.
Let it be known that I am not an all day pipe smoker, only having a bowl or two each evening after dinner. However, these two blends are what I crave each evening, they are just that good!
5 out of 5
Latakia blends are my favorite tobaccos by far, as well as an occasional bowl of pure Latakia (Pipes & Cigars Blending Latakia being my choice).
Bengal Slices is my side by side favorite with SPC's Plum Pudding for a Latakia blend, it's really just a matter of what mood I'm in as for which I will reach for!
5 out of 5
I used to stay clear of English blends because of some earlier, absolutely horrible experiences with Lakeland aromatics. But then I tried this as part of “Saved by the bell”. I’m in awe of this masterpiece. It’s almost literally on my mind every day. I’ve caught myself up at 3am, smelling it in the can. I can’t say enough good things about this stuff in 2000 characters. I only have two complaints. It’s kind of expensive and the can doesn’t seal very tightly so you have to stay on top of your humidification. But I’m just nitpicking.
5 out of 5
Tin aroma is amazing, presentation is gorgeous, flavor when fresh is just like hot air, BUT, after about six months something amazing happens to this blend. A solid core of tobacco flavor with a little something extra that’s hard for me to put my finger on has developed. Bought this as part of “Saved by the bell”.
4 out of 5
I really enjoy this blend when it comes up in my rotation. I was sold on Bengal slices from the first inhale of anise and sweet smoke. It came with just the right amount of moisture: I only had to rub it out and let it sit for a few minutes and it was perfectly packed and smokable. It has the same characteristics as another similar crumble cake, SPC Plum Pudding, though to my tastes a little less intense and with the added licorice/anise notes. I think it is a superb smoke. I'll definitely be ordering more when I get down to my last few pieces.
4 out of 5
Great Latakia-forward blend. The Cyprian is sweet and plays well with the orientals to give a nice cedar/incense note. The Perique gives a tiny bit of pepper and prune/raisin taste in the background, and the Cavendish quietly blends everything together and smooths it all out. It’s a medium-bodied blend in terms of taste, and could be an all-day smoke for some. The nicotine level is fairly mild.
4 out of 5
Tried it on a recommendation from a YouTuber. It was a bit harsh right out the tin, so I let it dry out for awhile, what a difference, much more mellower and flavorful. Nice room notes, could taste the different types of tobacco. It didn't disappoint, going to cellar the rest for a couple of years see if it will improve in quality and taste. Goes good with the morning coffee or a satisfying dinner. Would highly recommend it.

I’d heard numerous pipe smokers singing the praises of Plum Pudding and decided to try it recently. It’s already edged out Dunhill Nightcap as my favorite English, and not just because Dunhill is no more. It’s a nice, bold, sweet smoke with a bit of a floral note of some sort. Tastes and smells divine!!!
5 out of 5
I will caution you...I know nothing about pipe tobacco except for some of the basics so if you are looking for a review to help you make up your mind then this is not the review for you. That being said I found Plum Pudding to be a deep rich and satisfying smoke. I thought that my Scottish Breakfast tea went really well with it. Definitely can detect the Latakia presence.

This tobacco has the most intriguing smell that has kept my wife and I doing our best to pinpoint, but the only thing we can agree on is that it smells 'old', as in from many years ago, not a criticism of the tobacco's age! The taste is unusual, complex, rich and pleasant. It also seems quite strong, my first small bowl gave me a nicotine rush. I'm awaiting a new AristoCob to really test this blend properly but that damn smell, what does it remind me of? The closest I've got so far, is a British Railways carriage compartment during rush hour. Its a smell that reminds me of smoking rooms in a private mens club, other memories of a similar bygone age are evoked. Best I can do chaps.
5 out of 5
I am a Mac barren bold Kentucky and old dark fired fan so this one is a little settle in the nicotine department. With that said the taste is quite good and sweet almost like pudding lol. It's easy to crumble up and load and it smokes at a pretty good humidity level straight out of the van although it could dry out a bit too be better. This isn't on the same page for me as bold Kentucky but it's not bad either. I don't see myself buying another can but that doesn't mean you won't love it I can E why a lot of people do like it. I'm just a bigger fan of the fire cure Kentucky blends myself with loads of nicotine and strong Maduro style flavoring

This is my first crumble cake, and what a delight it is! It is complex, clean, smokes cool, burns to fine gray ash, and has a pleasant room note. It is suitable for most of my pipes...not just the ones I reserve for latakia blends. I have to remember to pack lighter than normal, but the smoke is long, flavorful and pleasant. It goes into my rotation, for sure.
3 out of 5
This is a pleasant blend with a gentle but distinct flavor.
5 out of 5
Absolutely amazing. This is my current favorite, if you're on the fence about getting some, or maybe you only smoke aromatics, don't worry, go for it, you will be impressed.
5 out of 5
My new favorite. A rich smooth smoke. All day enjoyment!! I love it.
4 out of 5
Excellent! The only reason I submit a four and not a five is that I do not see Plum Pudding as an all day smoke. That said, all other considerations work together to put this blend on the top shelf for sure. Tin note; rub; lightability; burn; room note; finish .... a genuine treat. "Plum Pudding " strikes me as a misnomer. True, it is smooth, as is pudding; it has a certain sweetness, as does pudding.....but, "Plum"? How about " King's Choice " or something like that? Names aside, this blend is just the right amount of latakia and perique. The sweetness of the Virginias is not obscured but is augmented nicely by the exotic character of the latakia and just the appropriate measure of perique. Through the nose, Plum Pudding produces a pleasing pinch ; for the tongue, there is plenty of zest. Personally, I find ginger tea to be a nice accompaniment. Pudding is full enough and lively enough to warrant no more than a medium sized pipe ..... perhaps a large one in the open air. Plum Pudding is a must!

have smoked a number of tins of plum pudding and enjoy it. SPC's assortment of tobaccos can be held among the better blends available in the market.
5 out of 5
As a somewhat new pipe smoker I have found a few very nice well known and exclusive blends here at P&C. They have all been aromatics. I seem to favor the aromatics tobaccos. But I did want something that was not in the same family as the sweeter aromatics and have been trying a few non-aromatics and english blends. I was completely surprised by how nice bengal slices are. A wonderful full bodied but mild smoke. Delicious flavor not overpowering at all. The smokey notes are just right. There something else that I can pick up on but not sure exactly what it is but it is very nice. So far this is only non-aromatic that I have tried that smokes great right down to the bottom. Smooth with no bite whatsoever. This is really a wonderful tobacco. Most definitely will keep this on hand.
5 out of 5
This, along with Plumb Pudding were my two first latakia heavy blends. I would say this is just as good as PP, but not quite as complex. Quite smokey, but even as a new pipe smoker, not overwhelming by any means. I would certainly recommend.

Good tasting tobacco. Been smoking 5 plus decades...this is one of my favorites.

Holy cheese Louis. This is the best 'Battle of the Blends' to ever exist in the history of the known universe. These Tabascos are truly marvelous. I know it's tobacco, but I say Tabasco. Big deal. Wanna make something out of it? Go ahead; call the cops. They're not gonna do anything about it. Last I check this was still 'Murica. I also know that it's jeez Louise, not cheese Louis. Again, 'Murica.

I have to say right up front that I prefer aromatic pipe tobaccos. However, Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding is a pleasant and enjoyable non-aromatic smoke. The little bit of Latakia in the pudding, gives the tobacco a little zip, and I have to admit I kind of like the taste of Latakia.

both are very good smokes

I am relatively new to trying different tobacco's lately, but so far this one is my favorite

Mild flavor. Burns even. Will use again

There is a reason this is so highly regarded. Would smoke this every chance I get!

It is good. I may buy a few more to cellar.

Nice cool smoke, good burn time but tends to go out easily. This is my first cake tobacco so that could be me not rubbing it out correctly. Over all I like it a lot.

Great blend rich flavor.a must in your rotation.

I didn’t care for this the first time I tried it. I gave it a second shot and it really started to grow on me. Especially later in the bowl.
4 out of 5
I'm not a "fan" of pressed tobacco but this blend was easy smoking without bite.
5 out of 5
Smokes smooth and has a peppery taste I like. If you are missing your Frogmorton this is a great replacement.
4 out of 5
I bought both plum pudding and Bengal slices together. At first, Oh, God! I hated them both. Let them sit for a while and tried them again. Not so bad! Now, I have a bowl of one of them every day. As the title says, growing on me...
5 out of 5
First few bowls I really was not getting the full experience, the flavors just were not there. Finally I set a pipe full aside on a paper towel in the morning and smoked it at night. One of the best blends I have ever smoked hands down! Completely worth the money and lives up to the hype, I am satisfied.
4 out of 5
This is a mellow and satisfying tobacco, but my only reservation is that the name is misleading. "Plum Pudding" sounds like something aromatic, which it is not. It is basically an English.
5 out of 5
It was very good
5 out of 5
This is a great, balanced, aromatic blend that's easy on the tongue, smokes clean and is good all day and into the night. It crumbles easily and mixes well with other blends in case you want to experiment. A go-to smoke for any occasion.

never had pipe tobacco in the cake form before I like it a lot

Whenever Emeril Lagasse would want to pick it up a notch he would go spice it up with flair. For me that is what Bengal Slices are. I have found that putting a little Bengal on top of almost any other tobacco makes it new and interesting. By itself it can be too much for me. Topping off other tobaccos is where it shines for me. I highly recommend.
5 out of 5
This blend definitely lives up to the hype. It's got a great flavor that's unique and neither overbearing nor underwhelming. Would recommend trying it out to see for yourself it's definitely worth the price per tin.

Great flavor and smokiness. A+

A wonderful smoke. I have more ordered is how great it is!

Why did I wait so long to try Plum Pudding? Smokey, rich, not harsh. Immediately one of my favorites.
4 out of 5
Normally I smoke heavy English/Oriental blends with lots of latakia. My other tobacco is Virginia/perique. This was likeable but certainly different. Unlike most blends that I try occasionally, I probably will buy some more of this one.
5 out of 5
This tobacco is some of the best that I’ve smoke. It’s a very smooth and relaxing smoke.
5 out of 5
Man this stuff is good! I'm not a huge fan of Cavendish but the Cavendish in this has a way of complimenting the taste. I was hesitant of buying this because i never seem to like tobacco that's usually very hyped up. I guess my taste is just different than most. But man this stuff is GOOD! like I'm honestly blown away. Even the after taste is good.

I became a convert to English blends a while back after enjoying some of the fine offerings from S. Gawith and McClelland. This sampler contains two excellent examples of the style.
In the spirit of the "battle of the blends" I have tried to pick a favorite and settled on Plum Pudding for that; however, my margin for that decision was razor-thin. Both of these are fine English blends. I will say that the Bengal slices were a touch dry and tended to crumble when rubbed out but that may have been just luck of the draw. In any case it is nothing a bit of humidity won't fix.
Again, two fine English blends here to spend a good deal of time taking your time to decide on.

A little more Latakia than my favorite Mississippi River, but makes for a change when you want something a little more smokey. Joe just doesn't make a bad blend. As with Mississippiu River a little more expensive but worth every cent.
4 out of 5
Very smooth, subtle notes of sweet and spice. Not one tobacco seems to overpower the other. Even burning, and did not experience any tongue bite. Would buy again and would recommend.

I've been smoking a pipe on & off since 1966. When some of my favorite brands "went away" in the past (Bengal Slices, the original John Cottons, etc) I migrated more toward cigars because I couldn't find anything that hit all the right buttons in the tobacco that was available. I heard that Bengal Slices and some of my other old favorites had been re-created, and I excitedly tried them all... they were pretty good, but not quite what I remembered. After reading some reviews about Bengal Slices, someone mentioned Plum Pudding, so I decided to give it a shot... there it was; that elusive "something" I had been missing from the Good Old Days....and probably better! I immediately ordered an 8Oz can and a 4oz can of the Plum Pudding Reserve! If you are a lover of the old English blends (especially Balkan Sobraine's offerings), don't hesitate to try Plum Pudding. I'm a happy camper :)

Perfect, I like this one. I thought it might be a little too dry, but after I had a few bowls full I liked it.
5 out of 5
One of the top full mixtures I have smoked in my 38 years of piping.
Since I don’t have a golden pallet that can pull apart all the components
One by one,I’ll just say the finished product as a whole is above average.
5 out of 5
One of the better tobbaco that I have tried it does suck that everyone is sold out but Bengal slices are a close match but in my opinion not as good as the plumb pudding
5 out of 5
I really enjoy this pipe tobacco. The blend is already delicious but while you smoke it you get a creamy note also.
5 out of 5
Outstanding English blend. This is the only review I have ever written, but I just had to compliment this blend. Many blends get built up by hype and the momentum carries them to the best seller list, but Plum Pudding is FOR REAL. If you like English blends, please give this one a try. It was a little damp when first opened, but a little drying time is ALL it needs. Happy piping my friends!

Love the taste of Latakia in this blend, it’s a great taste. The oriental, Virginia, and cavendish all work really well with the Latakia. The aroma of licorice is also present in this blend and might I say, great blend. I recommend it, a late after dinner smoke.

First 2 x smoking this all I tasted was floral notes. Packs well and smokes long. I am not getting it. So far not a favorite. But time will tell.
4 out of 5
Having never tried Bengal Slices prior to this iteration, I have nothing to compare the current one to. Having gotten that out of the way, I am thoroughly enjoying this newest edition. Just enough Latakia to bring the smokiness I crave, but with a sugary plum/raisin flavour that I find delicious. Recommended.

Off the bat let me say that this is one very special tobacco blend that any English lover simply must try. From the tin art, to the tobacco appearance, to the very thick cut slices, to the very very mild but extremely interesting top note, this is a one of a kind blend that simply should not be missed. It is very definitely English but definitely not just another English. It is unique and is like a top shelf whisky (or whiskey if you prefer) that is worthy of savoring and enjoyed on special occasions.
Like most English blends, this is Latakia forward, but the Latakia is not overpowering to the point that it overshadows the other component tobaccos. You can definitely pick up the spicy oriental leaf and the figgy sweetness of the virginia leaf. The unflavored cavendish adds just enough sweetness to enhance and mellow out the flavor profile of this blend and everything works in perfect balance. I think the very subtle topping is what sets this apart from most other English blends. The tin note seems to suggest Anise or Licorice but it is so subtle it is difficult to tell for sure. Whatever it is, it is amazing and done is just the perfect proportion.
This tobacco blend is just a bit more expensive than average but I think it is well worth the extra expense, especially if you enjoy this on special occasions like you would a nice single malt scotch. Not an everyday smoke. It is good enough and smooth enough to smoke all the time but it is so good you really ought to save it so that when you do smoke it, it will be that much more special. Let me reiterate, this is one not to be missed, can't recommend it highly enough. Enjoy!

Unlike most pipe fans here, I'm not a fan of this one. I'm somewhat new to pipes (again) after smoking them for a bit then went on a cigar kick for years (still enjoy a stogie from time to time, but pipes are taking back over). I've tried several bowls of this out of several different pipes and just don't like the "sour" flavor I get from this tobacco. It's almost reminiscent of smoking meat with green red oak wood. Very unpleasant and I don't think it was the pipes or my technique as most of the other tobaccos I've tried (from OTC brands, bulk from local tobacco shops, to various other branded tins) and found most ranged from acceptable to great. So far Plum Pudding and Sir Walter Raleigh (regular) are the only NO GO tobaccos I've found. Hopefully your results will be better, but this one is off my list for the foreseeable future.

Smoked the original Bengal Slices about 20 years ago, sold in a rectangular tin, with similar markings as on the current round tin. This certainly smokes as the original mixture, but what puzzles me, is that as the name implies, the mixture was originally pressed, then cut into thin slices. This one came in a solid brick, so it is now a Bengal Brick, not Bengal Slices. My initial thought was that the folks who purchased the Brand name and the formula, forgot to ask for the slicing tool. (Probably a special design, and expensive to build new).
The problem with the brick, was that to rub out, i needed a screw driver or ice pick to first break out pieces that could actually be rubbed out. Took several minutes, and i decided that next time i would use my Japanese cabinet maker's saw with the fine teeth to cut my own slices. Recently Pipes and Cigars had a discount offer with special aged bulk Bengal Slices tobacco. I just purchased a few ounces, and found I received a bag of several thick slices, not a hard pressed brick, so easy to pick a chunk to rub out and put in the pipe. Greatly appreciated P&C! This is a great smoke. Even, slow burn, no tongue bite, and with a unique note that is different from most Dunhills and other familiar English mixtures. My only complaint would be that, as with other tobaccos infused with a substantial topping, after a few smokes my pipe is coated with goo from condensed topping, and requires an effort to scrape it out, as well as to clear the 'sludge' out of the stem. Still, a small inconvenience for an unusual and satisfying smoke.

Uniquely wonderful.

It is a tasty, even-keeled medium tobacco. Nice tobacco as it will get even better with age.

This is a nice blend with a lot of flavor and a enough latakia to satisfy a latakia fan. I like Bengal slices so much that I am adding it to my list of favorites.

Returned to pipe smoking after over forty years. My favorites so far are H&H White Knight, Bengal Slices, Dunhill Dark Flake. and H&H Black House.

The most perfect tobacco I have ever smoked! When I sit outside with the wife to hsve a smoke, she asks if I will smoke thos blend!

I recently resumed my pipe smoking after a decades long layoff and have worked my way through assorted English Blends, chasing my old favorite, Balkan Original Mix. I found some Penzance and liked it but the nicotine hit was a little more that I wanted. Bengal Slices was recommended to me by my local shop, and I love it. it is my current and favorite everyday smoke now. Smooth, full flavor, slightly sweet, burns really well and I find it a cool smoking tobacco as well, and I'm a "puffer". I purchased a tin of Plum Pudding to try as well, but I like Bengal so much I haven't gotten in to it yet.

Again, an outstanding treat. Need a pipe dedicated solely for it.

Plum pudding is in a class all of its own, all the components work well together and it has a nice sweetness all of its own.I just got a 8oz.tin and I’ll always have it on hand hopefully and will buy every month. IMHO this blend rock’s. Thanks to P&C arrived in 2 days, fast service. Thanks again

This blend is unlike anything else. Fusiliers Ration is close but different. Bengal Slices is not an everyday smoke for me but it is an awesome smoke for those times you want something different and unique.

Tried this tobacco for the first time, and what a wonderful surprise! Smooth, full bodied smoke with a complexity of smokey flavors and a hints of spice. Opening the tin for the first time was a great experience for the nose too! A great smoke to finish the day. This tobacco will now a part of my rotation going forward. So happy to have discovered it!

As a fairly recent addition to the pipe smoking community, I don't believe for a second that I have the most discerning taste, these were actually my first crumble cakes. That being said, it was Bengal Slices by a country mile, uphill both ways. Even though it's my pick I'm having trouble describing it, all I can really say is that I felt a slight disappointment when the pipe was finished, the kind that made me consider moving up a size. Plum Pudding wasn't bad, but it has a sort of sweetness that got to be a bit much towards the end, it's got an apt name. Both are good, but I'll be canning the Plum Pudding for experiments down the road, while another tin of BS is on my list.

First let me say that I love this tobacco. For me, it is the epitome of an english/oriental, and I will be buying more !
However, it is not a smoke for a beginner, and for me, it is not an all day smoke. I rubbed this out and filled a large bowl pipe
with it and smoked it for WELL over an hour. This tobacco burns very slowly, i enjoyed every minute of it. A little bit goes a long way, so you need some time for this baby.
5 out of 5
Keep an eye out for this. I wouldn’t mind seeing this on the shelf more often. This is very very good stuff.

It's OK, I didn't have the same experience like most have, I found it to be rather bland ...Would I purchase again, probably not.

Very very tasty. Love the smokiness. Seems to burn quicker than some . Breaks up beautifully into bowl. AAAA...

I had tried this about six years or so ago and found it to be decidedly average. I put down my pipes for a few years, then smoked stuff I had cellared, and recently have been purchasing tobacco again. Either this tobacco has undergone some changes or my tastebuds had been burned out a few years back. This is a great, meaty, sweet and salty blend that talks back and gets more complex the further you get into the bowl. Perhaps my first taste of it was when it was in it's infancy (I remember the announcement that the Seattle pipe club blends would be available to the public, I was living in Oregon at the time). The tin I just got from P&C, like yesterday, with a bit of time in the air, tasted mature and well rounded.

Plum Pudding is simply amazing. Easy to crumble pack and light. Tastes great. Sometimes overhyped tobaccos fall short Plum Pudding doesn’t
5 out of 5
A friend of mine gave me about two bowls worth of Plum Pudding for me to sample, Once I lit up my pipe I realized why he had given me such a small amount, Plum pudding was so good, it was almost too good to share . The aroma was a bouquet of floral, incense, and herb as well as a rich smooth smokiness' with just a hint of spice. Just a beautiful smoke. I immediately purchased six ounces from Pipes and cigars.
5 out of 5
Beautiful crumble cake with a pleasant tin note. Top note is not an issue unless you are sensitive to them...very subtle. Also the cavendish plays a back of the bus addition but it is there, which is a good thing in this blend. Latakia is the star but the orientals are right there as well. Very tasty blend as you slowly work it. Gets better throughout the bowl.
Really interested in letting some of this age. I am in the camp that all tobaccos benefit with age. Some more then others but they all will improve with the blending of flavors, the rounding off of high notes and the such. Something with this blend leans me to a nice surprise in a year or so.

I never had the pleasure of tasting the original Bengal Slices, though, after they were gone they were spoke of in hushed and reverent tones. The new Bengal slices rank very high on my list of what a latakia blend should taste like. Reminds me more of Germains Special Latakia Flake, a tobacco that hasn't been pronounced dead yet but hasn't been available, to me at least, in several years. The bengal slices are a bit sweeter, though the can I recently purchased never got to see a cellar and the last Germains tin I cracked had a good four years sealed and in the dark like some residents of the white house. I can't say exactly why you should like it, I love it. It burns slow and cool and the flavor is there from the start and just keeps getting better as it burns down. One of the few tobacco's I've bought in the last six months that has me trying to light a bowl of ashes.

Simply outstanding!!

Ok , am I the only person that didn't fall in love with this tobacco...I was a little disappointed because I thought the way everyone was talking this would be the last tobacco I would ever want.....All I can say is I missed something..go with Frog Morton instead...Just my opinion
4 out of 5
A very nice tobacco quite reminiscent of Bengal Slices or Fusilier’s Ration. Similar texture, similar flavor and aroma but missing a little something, either a particular ingredient or slight difference in the way the tobaccos were matured/seasoned. It smokes smoothly and evenly. It’s very good and worthwhile having in hand, particularly when Bengal Slices or Fusilier’s Ration are unavailable.

This will be a go to blend for me from hear on. Definitely lives up to the hype. Such great flavors.

I'm a big Latakia fan so this definitely didn't disappoint. Sweet and savory and rich all in one! I've only smoked one bowl of it and I'm hooked!

This is my absolute favorite tobacco. The perfect daily smoke.

Sweet, heavy, smooth , a truely unregretable smoke. Reminds me of what was described in C.S. Lewis’s puddleglum’s favorite tobacco in “The Silver Chair”

Somewhat new to pipe smoking but after two years I have found my favorite blend in "Plum Pudding." Like other Seattle Pipe Club blends I have tried, "Plum Pudding" has very complex flavors why being very smooth. I definitely pick "Plum Pudding" over "Potlatch" because it does not give me tongue bite where "Potlatch" does. The spicy and sweet flavors complement each other much like salt and caramel do. Finally the crumble cake flakes add to an already interesting tobacco when I am packing my pipe. Order the 2 oz this time and I promise you will be ordering the 8 oz on your next order after that so you don't run out!
5 out of 5
This is a great blend to end the day with, or as I like to do, pack a bigger bowl and sip on it all day long. Great mouth feel, complex flavors, but a little off putting room note for those people who don't enjoy the smell of heavy pipe smoke. My tin came a little drier than usual, but smoked cool and even.

It's not just a like, it's a LOVE IT!!!

This is the closest to what I've been searching for !

It took me a few bowls to come to a solid opinion on SPC's "Plum Pudding", but I think I can honestly says that it is a very good Balkan blend. Of the two SPC blends I've tried, I think "Potlatch" is even better! But "Plum Pudding" is certainly close behind. I know one thing for sure: I'm definitely going to try all the SPC offerings in future.

If you love sweet surprises, this is a gem. I got it as part of the Standard Tobacco of PA Sampler (excellent sampler, BTW - includes some great John Cotton's mixes) and it blew me away. I had heard its history but that meant nothing to me as I was not smoking pipes when this was last on the market. This new iteration from Russ O is outstanding, regardless of it being a clone of something from the past. It's a smoky, sweet, and rich 'English crossover' experience. It has all the Latakia you could want but the star component is a kind of anise-like top note reminiscent of old fashioned licorice. I call it a crossover because it happens to be highly aromatic. It burns cool and long - a very economical smoke. A big bowl has lasted me all day. From the first light to the final draw the flavor remains consistent. Not for the strict English aficionado, maybe, but for those who like to try new things and occasionally crave something smoky with a sweet sting, this is an A+ smoke.
5 out of 5
Excellent, rich blend. It is up there with Dunhill Nightcap, although others around enjoy the smoke better.

Ive never tasted anything this bad, Im sure there are people that like it but I am NOT one of those people.
5 out of 5
So far, this has become my favorite blend. It satisfies all my desires for deep & rich smoky flavors and Latakia eclecticism, while remaining smooth as silk. I cannot wait to try the Special Reserve.
4 out of 5
I will keep this short and sweet - amazing blend! I only wish it could come in 8oz tins. I will be ordering several tins for my cellar, placed right next to my Penzance, as well as a few for immediate gratification.
4 out of 5
This is delicious!! I have never had the original but if it's anything like this stuff then I would've stocked up on it as well. After the first bowl I can't seem to get enough of it. I enjoy it at any time of the day and I'm coming back. Ill admit for not having high hopes, I was so happy to have been proven wrong. The topping isn't overwhelming but is delightfully present from start to finish. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed. Salut!
4 out of 5
I bought this because of the 'lore' behind Bengal Slices and the popularity it had in a previous life and I wasn't disappointed! It has a great flavor and a little bit of spice that makes for a great smoke!
5 out of 5
This is a nice blend it's got a lot going on in it. The more I smoke it the more I like it.
2 out of 5
Everyone has different tastes. Most people like this. I don't. It's monotone. It has a strong "smoky" flavor. No complexities, no richness, just smoke. It DOES have a decent lingering aftertaste with very little bite. That is a huge positive. But it's just smoke, smoke and more smoke.
I don't like this Joe guys blends. Mississippi Mud was HORRIBLE and this is just a step up. If that means anything. I would like to avoid this guys blends if possible.
4 out of 5
One of my favourite Latakia blends. I find the crumble cakes a little cumbersome but I enjoy the favour and the room note.
5 out of 5
I'll keep this short and simple. Damn this stuff is GOOD.
I only wish my tongue could handle smoking all day, it goes numb after around 2 bowls a day. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to pull me away from this. Smoking this in one of my meerschaum pipes is a fantastic experience.

The other reviews say it all. I agree A great smoke. Flavor is beautiful and the flavor lasts from the first light right down to the last puff.

Just when I think I've found my ideal English I go and try another that takes the formers place. That's exactly what happened with Plum Pudding. Yes it's a Balkan blend but with a slight twist that doesn't take away from the traditional flavors you expect in a Balkan. The other reviews here describe perfectly its flavor. So I'll just say that this an excellent choice!

Based on a recommendation by Sal in P&C's Customer Service (Thank you Sal!!), I tried Seattle Pipe Club's Plum Pudding. This crumble cake is wonderfully fragrant from the tin and prepares, packs, lights and stays lit easily when dried for a period prior to use. There is so much going on with this complex Balkan style tobacco (smoky, spicy, sweet and incense-like) yet, to me, it is perfectly balanced with no one ingredient overshadowing/overpowering another. Complex, interesting, flavorful and balanced, Plum Pudding provides a well-rounded and satisfying experience. Clearly a stand-out. Well done, SPC!
4 out of 5
Well, I bought this blend looking for blends similar to Nightcap, but better. This isn't one. That said, it is a great blend. The smoke is thin, there's smokiness, a little spice, and some sweetness, but as other reviewers have stated there's something else in here that I can't put my finger on, but it throws me off. I'll smoke it occasionally, but Its not a blend I'm afraid to run out of. I recommend you try it, it is beautifully blended so that no one flavor overpowers the others. Maybe you'll like it more than I did.
5 out of 5
I really enjoyed this plum pudding! My first impression after opening the tin and taking a whiff was " I can't wait to load this stuff and get started"! It crumbles very easy. I like to keep mine alittle more on the chunky side when I crumble it mostly because I'm smoking on my drive to and from work with the windows down. Helps keep the tobacco in my pipe and not fly out when it catches some wind. To me it's sweet and flavorful and mellows out and becomes creamy once you get under half a bowl. I'm sure this will be a regular for me. Give it a try!
4 out of 5
Definitely different! I am normally a smoker of very strong tobacco's. I have heard so much about this tobacco, and smoked so many of its off-spring I had to give it a shot. I was not disappointed. There are many subtle layers of flavor with this tobacco. I think I would have liked more latakia, however, I feel latakia is like bacon - it goes in everything, and there is never enough. I am adding more tins to the collection, so take that for what it's worth! Keep Smoking!

I feel its a work and smoke kinda mix. I got done with one bowl and was ready for another. There was no bite ever and it was very constant all the way through

It's very unique. It makes for a nice change. It's cold here and this fits right in.

So I bought a tin of Bengal Slices many months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. Relatively young in my pipe smoking experience but Bengal Slices was enjoyed enough to become a member in the rotation. However, I enjoyed other favorites far more often, to the exclusion of Bengal Slices. In these past few weeks I've been back at it and these 7-8 months of jar age have done wonders for Bengal Slices. I can only hope that it is aging as well in the many tins I purchased. The tactile enjoyment of a crumble flake is a huge part of the appeal. That band aid smell in the jar i will never tire of. And finally an outstanding burn, aroma, and smoking experience. Enjoyable for most passer-bys as well. I even love the stench it leaves on your clothes. In all seriousness ladies and gentlemen this one is top shelf. The care that went into the experience in all its facets is evident. My suggestion, stock up.

I didn't think anything could beat Dunhill Nightcap for my number one smoke. But plum pudding has done it. It's now my top smoke. It's just the smoke I've been looking for.
5 out of 5
I orderd the small size first. After I tried it I realized it was not enough. So I orderd the 8ounce.
5 out of 5
This is a truly outstanding tobacco, particularly well suited for the end of the day when you're free from distractions and interruptions. My palette is not especially sophisticated, so I cannot wax eloquently on its various subtleties and complex nuances. I will say this however, the smoke is rich and creamy. Big puffy clouds of it. Latakia is certainly present, but the other players balance it out beautifully. A truly harmonious blend. I especially like the crumble cake aspect. Makes it very easy to prepare. Char, tamp and enjoy. Burns slow and even. No bite. Flavor is consistent to the final puff. Burns to a fine, white ash. This one has found a permanent home in my rotation which include several Dunhill and G.L. Pease blends. Preferred pipe is a Bulldog, but it's excellent in a Cobb as well.

Doesn't taste like Bengal Slices at all, but it is a decent tobacco nonetheless. If you're willing to pay this price because it's worth a little more to get that ol' Bengal Slices flavor, I believe you will be disappointed. However, if you are open to other good flavor, you'll find some enjoyment in this smoke.

Reviewed it before and I still love it.

Every now and then you will try something that blows your mind. This was one for me. Super well balanced any time of day, any time of the year, in any climate. Can you put some more stars in your ratings, because this one needs another star. I smoked 4 other latakia blends today that are equally recognized as highly regarded fine tobaccos. Nightcap, 965, H&H Admerality, Peter St. 52. This one beat them up. I will be ordering this on a regular basis.

The Cut makes it hard to light. I rubbed it out both times I have smoked it. Its not a bad blend has a nice room note wife liked it better then most and i normal don't smoke in the house.

I didn't love this one, to be honest. Maybe I live in the wrong climate, or maybe it was the wrong time of year... but early summer in Texas? No, wouldn't do that again. I'll definitely give it another try in a cooler climate, maybe even next month on the Oregon Coast. Will report back.

Awesome tobacco. Has a great taste and aroma.

LOVE this tobbac, smoking my first bowl this morning and am already planning to buy bulk to cellar. This tobacco smokes cool and the flavor and smell are incredible.

A wonderful and powerful blend...

Just ok. Sorry Russ. The licorice/anise, topping turned me off completely. It made it one dimensional. Basically a lat bomb with licorice. 10 to midnight is better for this exact style. Lots of lat in that one also, just better balanced.

Saw earlier review on Seattle Plum Pudding and heartily agree: excellent morning blend with your coffee!

Best darn pipe Backy ever smoked yet

So this one is a winner. I've heard the tales of the original but this one stands on its own. Jar note is s little weird. But smokes like s nice mild English. Not better than the Pease Maltese Falcon I received in the same order. But a regular to be in the cellar and rotation.

Good Latakia blend, however I found myself picking up Dunhill Nightcap more often than this one.

Spicy and smokey is right!! this is a pretty strong smoke for me...but i think i like it

I had heard great things on YouTube, so I decided to order a tin and it was well worth it; this tobacco is AWESOME. I love the signature latakia smokiness and also the underlying fruit note. My grandfather really enjoyed it as well. It packs very nicely, and I was even able to set my pipe aside for a few minutes and pick it back up to find it hadn't yet gone out. Highly recommended to those of you who like latakia. I think I sense an 8 oz tin in my future.

It wasn't bad, but I'm more of a ribbon cut guy.

It seems like every SPC tobacco I try is my new favorite. Plum pudding is such a great smoke! Rich and satisfying, love this tobacco! P&C delivers accurate and on time.

This blend is simply delicious! Some sort of exotic Asian fruit juice? You got me. The tin didn't last me all of three days! That's a record. Hope it comes in an 8 ounce soon.

The Bengal Sliced work well for me. They are more of a crumble cake which makes preparing a bowl easy. It lights easy and stays lit. The taste is bold yet smooth, buttery at times. I will be smoking this on a regular basis. Also will buy extra for the cellar.

I did enjoy this tobacco but I won’t call it all day go to tobacco. I would recommend a try and see because our taste do differ.

This is the kind of tobacco that grows on you. At first I didn't know what to expect, but as I started packing my first couple bowls I found myself enjoying this wonderful premium. Fresh tobacco even more and more. The tin note is unbelievable, fresh, smokey but a cozy smoke, a very natural comfortable type of smokey aroma. The aroma from a fresh opened tin is just absolutely superb, it's a smell you'll never forget a smell that is as unique as the blend itself. Most of my tin was broken tiny bits of kake tobacco with some nice solid chunks and good sized bits and pieces. The taste of this tobacco is like none other, light on the heat yet full flavored, pillowy big clouds of natural smelling jolly goodness. Robust and rich flavored, slightly peppery and just a tad wee bit of sweetness that blends together perfectly with the earthy, woodsy. Smokey and rounded out balanced complexity of this excellent treasure of a pipe tobacco. Get some Cornell&Diehls pirate kake and immerse yourself in the smokey natural full on goodness of this brilliant blend, but be warned ad the can says, it is very addicting and gets better after every toasty bowl you pack. Happy puffing Mateys!

I never thought I would see this blend again but here it is and its just as i remembered it! A wonderful tobacco with some great memories

Ultimately, although the top note distinguishes Bengal Slices from most other English-type blends, ir dis not grab me as much as I expected it would.

Outstanding blend!hard for me to describe all the fla ors in this one,but they all are on board for a delightful smoke.Pair this one up with coffee, and oh man!what a treat.I was sad when my bowl ended.this is as good as it gets.

Brilliant blend. I don't always smoke Balkans, but when I do, I smoke Bengal Slices.

An OK smoke, not bad, just not full, complex, or flavorful. Aging may help somewhat. I am not inclined to purchase this again.

Never had the original , but have heard a lot about it. Russ has done it again. Great tobacco with a top note that is not overpowering. I wish I could put my finger on the top note. I may be buying a few more tins to figure it out.

Classic Latakia/English Blend with that mystery topping.

Tin note: licorice, anise, slightly smokey. This is obviously a crumble cake that has been cut into very thick slices, looks like a thick flake, but certainly isn't. It's very dry - I have found this to be a theme with STCoP - so if not VERY careful it will crumble into dust. I will add moisture buttons and hopefully fix this.
First Half: well balanced between Latakia and Orientals, but still nice and smokey from the Latakia. Mildly sweet aftertaste from Virginias and Cavendish. The licorice/anise flavor is more subtle than the tin note would suggest. Had some trouble getting and keeping it lit at first because I had to leave it chunkier than I would a normal crumble cake to avoid turning it to dust, and because of that I had to gravity fill instead of using my normal packing methods. After my first couple of tamps though, it started to burn easier and better.
Second Half: Latakia takes full center stage, gets a little smokier, a little spicier. Back to having a harder time keeping it lit. Still has a nice subtle licorice/anise flavor, and slightly sweet aftertaste. Very smooth retrohale.
All in all I enjoyed the flavor profile of this tobacco, but I did not like how difficult the cut made it to prep and smoke. I don't think I'll purchase again because of it.

When I read about the Bengal Slices, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to try them. But after admiring the aroma and excellent taste of the smoke, I’m hooked! Gave some to friend and he loves it too! Keep it coming and I’ll keep buying!

Outstanding blend. Smoky, sweet, and with a topping that remains through the bowl. Similar to fusilier's ration but a bit more outspoken, and doesn't nibble at your tongue. (Fusilier could get a bit unruly if pushed)

Smoked this in my Nording; full bodied earthy flavor and smell; spicy.

I've never been a Latakia fan but found this to be quite enjoyable. Similar to Sillem's Black but better in my opinion with the Latakia just right for my taste. Nothing chemical/artificial/bite as with the black. Subtly sweet with fantastic room note. I can't comment as to this being an exact recreation of the original as I've never had the opportunity to smoke the original, however, this new incarnation certainly stands on its own in my book.

Upon first opening the tin, there is a note of ketchup mixed with vinegar, maybe. Not sure how to describe it, but that's all I can think of. Packing a bowl of this stuff is so easy. It crumbles down into the pipe and allows for a well packed smoke. The taste is just heavenly. Unlike many Virginia flakes or cakes, Bengal Slices has a nice bit of Latakia in it, yet not enough to put you off, even if you're not into Latakia. The retro-hale is like a flavor bomb! It honestly is one of the best tasting tobacco's out there. If you can get your hands on it, do it!

Bengal Slices, what can I say that others have not? These are a sublime experience. An all day smoke. I’ve never had the original, or Fusileer’s Rations, so I cannot compare. It’s a nice Latakia blend that seems more forward on Orientals. The crumble cake presentation is choice, though it can crumble up a bit fine if you play with it for too long. If you are reading this review and on the fence, go ahead and order two tins today.

ok, I have to amend my view. I only recently bought a tin and it's already gone. This is a perfect smoke. I love the creamy smokiness. I am bulk buying from now on.

Sorry, I never got to try the original so I can't compare them. Opening the tin you get a nice smoky earthy scent. After the True light it stayed lit through the whole bowl, only had to take it now and then and take a couple quick puffs and it kept going. Didn't get any bite but I could taste the spices in my mouth.great taste and room note! I bought three tins, and will definitely get more to stock up..

Excellent tobacco with a strong lat forward tilt. I love it!

I love this tobacco!!!! It has a gorgeous aroma, in the pouch and when smoked. Initially, I did not really appreciate the taste, but it grows on you slowly. Burns great and slowly. Just how I like it!!!!! Also learned that I can get a better taste and aroma simply by inhaling the smoke through my nostrils. It also has no bite and is very smooth. Almost a perfect tobacco for me!!! I will definitely buy more from you. Thanks for acquiring this tobacco and offering it to us.

This stuff is glorious. Dark, smokey, sweet and mysterious. It's definitely latakia-forward, but it's never over-powering. For those of us that love the incense-like character of Balkans, this is heaven. The top note is interesting. Initially, I thought it reminded me of Fernet Branca, but it has a very sublte-sweet, floral essence that beings everything together.

Bengal Slices did not disappoint. Good flavor with a good smoky presence.

I like Fusilier's Ration and was happy to hear this was released. I tried it and it's different enough from FR to warrant me buying both. Bengall Slices is an exceptional tobacco. Burns cool and long and to a fine ash. Creamy mouthfeel but definitely a fine English style blend. I will be buying more of this as well as Fusilier's Ration

I am generally a English blend kinda guy, but when I need a change of pace and I am looking to really make my pallet happy this blend is what I enjoy. Everyone should give Bengal slices a try. You will not be let down.

Bengal Slices was one of many famous tobaccos that I had never gotten around to trying. Now I have and I can understand it's popularity. It's also the first tobacco I've tried in years that my wife likes the smell of. Count that a win/win!

This was not the quality of tobacco I was expecting. Very dry ant compressed.

This blend is very enjoyable. The sweetness of the black cavendish keeps this one interesting and gives this a nice anise flavor. The Latakia remains at bay in this one and remains very subtle. Overall compares to HH fusilers ration but very different. This one is a must buy. Great new company created by pipe smokers for the pipe smoking community. Thank you Dan, Russ, Simon and the wonderful people at P&C.

I've never had the original, but this new version is an excellent smoke. If you are a Balkan fan, definitely give Bengal Slices a try.

I loved this blend. Very complex, nice flavor and, for me, the perfect strength. I'll definitely buy it again.
3 out of 5
This to me smells just like sillem's black... luckily it smokes more latakia forward with more spice than sillem's black and the top note is just a touch down from that.. i get a honey / vanilla cavendish smell and taste with some latakia and oriental spice.. this is a good smoke but it's not for me.. it kind of leaves that lump in the back of your throat if your not a regular aromatic smoker, that's who should try this to cross over to english...

It's like having a party in your mouth and everyone is invited.
Full flavor, but not too strong. Lat lovers delight. Believe the hype. I prefer this over the Esoterica Penzance.

Some call Plum Pudding a balkan. To me it’s closer to a Scottish blend. Either way, it is a mild-medium blend with a nice amount of Latakia that is balanced out with the cavendishes. In a way, it reminds me of a softer version of Hearth & Home Fusilier’s Ration. It’s not strong, but it is dark and smooth, and very enjoyable. My tin of PP needed a bit of drying time to make it easier to keep lit. The crumble cake was easy to break apart, and it burned well right down to the bottom.

The tin note was smokey and earthy from the Latakia. I was never lucky enough to smoke the original Bengal Slices, so I will not be able to attest as to weather or not it is a faithful reproduction. Bengal Slices like most of Russ Ouellette's blends was ready to smoke no drying necessary. On the charring light the smokiness of the Latakia was front and center. On the true light the spiciness of the Orientals joined the flavor profile. A quarter of the way into the bowl the tanginess of the Virginias came through. The sweetness of Cavendish was present through out the bowl. Bengal Slices burned cool and well once lit stayed lit to the bottom of the bowl. This is definitely Latakia forward blend, but the Latakia did overpower the flavor of other tobaccos. I can see this blend quickly becoming one of those hard to find blends. So when you find it stock up I know that I will.

Plum pudding had an appealing description however my wife didn't like
the smell. It was a bit harsh on the tongue but only just getting back into pipe
smoking, i'm sure I will need to build up from "mild" before tackling a Medium/full tobacco.
I did enjoy the Missouri Meerschaum Independence Day 2015

I had high hopes for this after reading reviews that rated it higher than Mississippi River. I like MR, but I thought the addition of the Cavendish in the Plum Pudding would be a neat addition. I was wrong.
The tin note told me immediately that it was way heavier on the Latakia than MR. I like Latakia in small amounts. It was in nice semi-flakes. I smoked in in my green Mr. Brog Chocla pipe. It loaded and lit well. The first few puffs were a blast of Latakia followed by a big kick from the Orientals. It was almost harsh. It had none of the creamy smoothness of MR. Complex?...Yes, but in a very ham-handed way. It smoked all the way down and the flavor never changed.
If you are a fan of big, bold, in-your-face Latakia and Oriental blends, you'll love this. As for me...I prefer the more subtle and refined MR. To each, their own.

Tried a couple of different English blends, never really cared for them, more of an aromatic smoker, but after reading all the reviews on plum pudding, I bought a 2 oz tin. The smokie, spiciness reminded me of one my favorite cigars, I ordered a 8 oz tin.

Ordered both Missippi River and Plum Pudding to see and taste the hype. Plum Pudding does it for me bowl after bowl. Still on the humid side. I prefer to fill a bowl ant let it sit overnight or a few hours during the day and light up.

I smoke english as a rule. Been smoking a pipe for about 15 years. I don't know what it is about this offering. It hints at something spectacular but never really delivers. There doesn'seem to be much body or finish and has an airy, wispy quality about it. I suspect I'm jaded by too much latakia. Don't get me wrong, I suspect a person who is used to aromatics may find this quite compelling. I however, just kind of felt....meh? Just to warn the die hard bold english blend fans, I think you may be a bit disappointed with this one. It is quite obviously quality tobacco, just doesn't seem to have much oomph.
