For years people have called and emailed for discounts on just about everything. Well you can hold the phone on these cigars ‘cause they’re as deep as we can go on quality like this. Not a disappointing cigar in the bundle. Hailing from the Dominican Republic in what we can only think was a pricing error of some sort these cigars are easy on the wallet. We’re pretty well known for discounting but this might be over the top. The 1876 Reserve is an exceptionally smooth and mellow Connecticut wrapped handmade offered in four classic sizes.
Look, it's not an expensive cigar so you can't expect the moon. However, they are quite good for the price. They arrive a little dry and the wrapper breaks apart, but you pop them in your humidor for a while and that takes care of that. They're light and smooth and taste pretty good for the price. They are inconsistent in construction throughout a bundle, some burn up the sides or straight through the middle too fast because of being packed looser, but most are the same denseness, I guess is the word, all through. It's not my favorite inexpensive cigar, but I don't think you'll be disappointed. They're good for sharing at a golf outing or a poker night, I think, as they're not too strong for people who don't usually smoke cigars (and, lets be honest, you save your best for you).
I tried a bundle of these along with several other budget priced cigars. It is a nice smoke, mild and pleasant. I was a little disappointed to find that probably 3 out of 4 suffered from a split and peeling wrapper, causing them to burn unevenly. It would appear that they need to be kept well humidified to prevent the thin Connecticut wrapper from becoming dry. My favorite from the several that I sampled would be the Factory Throwouts.
I threw one of these in with my last pipe tobacco order as an afterthought. I had never smoked a "budget" handmade cigar and had heard many horror stories. I was very pleasantly surprised. This is a darn good cigar! Perfect draw, fair construction, even burn, and plenty of mild creamy smoke. Even the no-name store brand cigars at my local shop are over twice this price. A bundle or two of these will definitely be in my next order.
