Each year, Stanwell and Peterson release their pipe of the year - one shape, in a variety of finishes. This year's offerings are real stunners. The Stanwell version is a straight, canted Dublin with a crowned crest, a black acrylic saddle bit and a sterling silver band. They come in a golden light brown, rich brown, and a black sandblast with a smooth tan rim. All three are available as unfiltered or ready for a 9mm filter. Peterson's POTY features one of the hottest shapes of the last few years - the Devil's Anse. To make it an even better clencher, our Irish friends have made it with a black acrylic saddle bit. They come in a tan contrast smooth, a black blast, and a tan and black rustic finish. As with the Stanwells, these briars are finished with a sterling silver band.
This year, we also have an entry from Molina. This large Italian maker has chosen a straight billiard shape, average in length, but hefty in feel with thick walls. The stem is made of brilliant black acrylic that accepts a 9mm filter, which has a smaller diameter than the shank for a striking appearance. A bright metal ring enhances the end of the shank, and a coordinated ring on the stem ties it all together. As always, the pipes of the year are made in limited quantities, so you;ll want to act fast.
