Smooth
This is the first really good tobacco I've smoked since I started smoking a pipe again. It is so good I'm thinking about making it my favorite smoke.

Lane Limited Ready Rubbed
An excellent blend. Little to no tongue bite. Awsome all day smoke. Cocoa and a very mild under note of molasses. On the rather slow burning side as well. Not too fast...not too slow. Full bowl at a normal smoke is good for I'd say easily 30-45 mins. Definately a blend that I would suggest to always have a pouch of. If you love it...then buy the tub. Great stuff.

If you like burley you'll like this
Has a distinctive aroma. Tastes a little woody and vanilla like ever so slightly.

It took me a while to like this tobacco, but when I did, I loved it. Kind of mild but it is great once you get used to it. Will definitely buy again.

The aroma and flavor is exactly as the original Edgeworth blend...great price as well. Try the bulk, it's less expensive.

LLRR or MATCH ERR
smoked about 5 or 6 bowls of LLRR and it's a nice smooth smoke with a little chocolate but not a taste that i reach for as i do with MATCH ERR witch i find a little nuttier and a little sweeter and i keep reaching for but i also like most all sutliff blends i have tried

Fantastic OTC daily smoke
I have smoked grainger, prince Albert, sir Walter Raleigh, velvet, Carter hall, and half/half, and with that being said, I enjoy lane limited ready rubbed as a daily smoke. I wanted to try as many of the over the counter old school blends as possible and figure out if there was one that I would enjoy smoking daily. This is it. I have 2 different "basket" pipes that I take to work with me and I enjoy LLRR all day. Then on the weekends while I am relaxing at home I smoke all of my other nicer more expensive meerschaum pipes and more complex blends.

Carter Hall
Carter Hall has been around for a long time as many of you know. It's a good blend, but for me it is a blend that needs to be mixed with a nice aromatic.

Very good budget option
This is a very good budget option tobacco. It smokes smooth without any harsh bite. I was surprised at how much I liked it.

OK for a novice smoker...
The tobacco was very dry...burned hot and fast with little flavor. This was straight out of the freshly opened pouch. I rehydrated it with a terra cotta leaf...24 hours later. It was moist...I facilitated this by putting the tobacco and leaf in a sealed tin. After letting it sit for a couple of days, it was evenly rehydrated. Letting it dry for maybe an hour helped again and it was tolerably smokable. After several bowls from a large Savinelli balsa filter pipe, I concluded that it’s a very mild smoke with subtle flavor and aroma. All in all, not bad but a pain to get it to a smokable condition. It has some sweetness...just a little and doesn’t bite although it is a bit tangy. Good for a quick smoke. The Savinelli is normally good for an hour or more with most high end ribbon cuts, the Carter Hall, maybe 45 minutes, possibly less. I’d give it good marks for a novice pipe smokers start up tobacco. Could also be used to reduce the strength of stronger smokes by adding bulk with not too much character. Didn’t fall in love with it but it’s OK.

Still the same
This is an average smoking tobacco in my estimation. My steady go-to tobacco is Captain Black (original). I've tried so many other brands, both OTC and hoity toity brands, but I always come back to Captain Black and will stick with him.

Think Cigarettes
[Tin/pouch - Vinegar nose tin first whiff. Sour note. Beautiful nutty brown sugary bowl sniff (very light).] Woody on smoke. Molasses on exhale giving to nuttiness hint. Mostly bland tobacco. (Lasting first impression: think cigarettes). If sampling through Burleys, it is a good part of that experience, but PS Toasted Burley blows this one away IMO.

Carter Hall tins
I've been a career hall fan for many years. I do hope you have the 14oz tins available soon.

It's fine
The prevailing flavor of alcohol was much less pleasant than the hints of cocoa I experienced in the last half the of the bowl. The tobacco is mostly smothered by the flavorings, with hints of nutty sweetness from the burleys peeking through. The virginias peek through too, but they are always in the background. Were the casings more balanced and consistent in flavor, I would have liked this blend more. I probably won't be picking it up again, but I don't regret the purchase and ended up finishing the pouch.

Two Quintessential (Even if a Bit Lackluster) Drugstore Tobaccos
These are two tobaccos that any drugstore smoker should have in their collection. I found the Classic Battle sampler to be an easy way to acquire both at a discount. I'm glad that I have each in my rotation. That being said, I'm not a diehard fan of either. The Lane Limited Ready Rubbed wears its top notes well and the cocoa really comes through. However, the taste is not as enjoyable as some aromatics (I compare all aromatics to my absolute favorite OTC: Captain Black Royal, and the Ready Rubbed falls short in contrast). The Carter Hall is an extremely mild smoke, so mild that I struggle to discern much nuance at all, but it has a nice, easy taste and no bite at all. However, if seeking a wholly delicious Virginia-Burley, I recommend Comoy's Cask #9.

Never Tried the Original
It’s an ok smoke, nothing to write home about, it seems to start off like the old sail natural or Erin go Braugh, kinda like tea flavored, but by half a bowl that’s gone, and it’s VERY mild, not my style. But I smoke PA and Punch cigars so I may not be the best judge of this, I like my smoke very Strong and Spicy.

Great burley!
I like this because it is always good to have some tobacco without any flavorings or casings in your rotation. Has a mellow flavor with no bite. It is also great for blending with some black twist rope to knock a little of the bite off.

A burley blend that I like
Lane has done a great job in re establishing a classic from the past. This is the first time that I have ever tried this mixture . I was not dissapointed !

Old stuff is good stuff.
Burns even, cool with no bite. Good all day smoke.

Excellent blend
Once I dried it somewhat, it stayed lit rather well. It has a smell of dried fruit which I'm not a fan, but once I lit it, the rich burleys created a flavor I found wanting. And bite free. No wonder others have sought out this blend. Truly unique.

Lane Limited
Very similar to Edgeworth. It reminded me of me smoking my pipe in my younger years. Like to get something similar to Briggs...one of my favorite tobaccos.

Ok But Not For Me
I love OTC Burley blends. Prince Albert is a regular smoke for me. This reminds me of Sir Walter Raleigh regular. It's got tobacco flavor but I wish it smoked a little cooler and easier with a little more of the cocoa and molasses flavor. It may be perfect for someone else just nothing that I need to have again.

Solid All-Day Smoke
I bought a pouch of Carter Hall out of curiosity while ordering some tinned tobacco from Pipes and Cigars. The pouch note was not encouraging; the tobacco has a little of the chemically smell of Half & Half. When I smoked it, however, I was pleasantly surprised. This is a solid tobacco. The flavor is not complex, but not one-dimensional either; it's very tasty. It packs well. It stays lit without effort. It doesn't bite. I smoked my first bowl in a cob, and then four bowls back-to-back in a meerschaum. I only stopped because the meer was starting to gurgle slightly. This is a blend that can be smoked all day long. It burns quickly, so if you smoke during breaks at work or other similar opportunities, this tobacco is ideal. And if you also tend to chug away at your pipe like a freight-train, then this is stuff is perfect. The only downside to this blend in my opinion is that it obviously contains additives. I like it a little too much, and I'm sure I'll burn through the pouch in another day or two. In this respect, it is a little too much of a cigarette-like experience for my liking.

Git yer hands on some of this...
Somewhere in the dim recesses of my memory I recall buying the original Edgeworth, but it may well have been forty or more years ago. It must not have been a hit because I never came back to it. My loss. The new Lane Limited is a most refreshing change from the lat bombs and VaPers that have dominated my smoking for the last decade or so. This current blend does, however, remind me very much of a burley tobacco I used to order from LL Bean. It's been many years since I smoked that, but the Lane Limited does bring back memories of the Bean product. Perhaps they were blended by the same firm. Now, to the present; this is an easy smoking blend that doesn't bite, tastes great, and has a nice room note. I do find that it demands a slow cadence, but it stays lit quite well. It is somewhat springy when packing, so I often refill my bowl after the first charring light. (I know...purists will rise in disgust at this suggestion). It easily smokes down to a fine ash at the bottom of the bowl. I've already reordered once, and plan on ordering more as soon as I finish this novel. Never more shall I look down my nose at "pouch" tobaccos.

Happily surprised!
While I've only been smoking pipe occasionally for 2 years, this became my favorite burley blend so far after only a few puffs. There are subtle hints of cocoa, a subtle sweetness, and as long as I puff on it consistently and tamp properly, it stays lit. The flavor remains the same through the bowl, and the nuttiness of the burley really comes out. This is more an every day smoke, or something to smoke while you're mowing or doing other things. Great with a mug of black coffee to start your day. Try it out if you like a mild all-day burley blend. I'll be buying more! Also... I've never had Edgeworth Ready Rubbed, so I'm not comparing it.

For the Sake of Mistaken Nostalgia
I never smoked Edgeworth, but my music teacher--from 1939 to 1951--always did, constantly. It smelled deliciously. So last month I ordered a pouch of Lane Limited Ready Rubbed, out of curiosity and nostalgia. I wanted to know what attracted my teacher to it. I am still wondering. One of the truisms of pipe smoking is that it matters greatly which end of the pipe you're on, that the taste of a tobacco is not related to its aroma. This time, I really proved the point. The aroma of Edgeworth may have entranced me, but the taste of Lane Limited Ready Rubbed is blah in the extreme. It has no definite taste at all, let alone a fascinating one. This tobacco convinces me of three things: aroma and taste are unrelated; burley makes a lousy pipe tobacco and belongs only in cigarettes; and my love for a good Balkan means I will never be happy with any aromatic. Two bowlfuls of this stuff sent me scampering back to my Latakia for relief.

Good Burley
Never had the original, so no comparison here . . . was looking for something to serve as a slightly more 'complicated' companion to SWR. I think it is, in a very subtle way. Smoothness would be the defining quality if I had to name one.

Pleasantly Surprised
Amateur pipe smoker, pleasantly surprised by this tobacco. Very mild, only had to light once, little to no bite, smokes well. A good, solid, no-frills choice.

Good
A bit dry in the pouch but still a good tobacco. So good that I ordered the 14oz. can. I will write another review when I am done with the can.

Very good burley tobacco
Edgeworth all over again and I smoked a lot of it back in the day. Just getting back into pipes (which I prefer) as I could not find tobacco locally. This is not an English it is plain and bland but a good smoker with a good clean taste. Probably a good place to start and see where your taste buds want you to go but if your like me you will just order more with an fill of something else on occasion (Dunhill early morning).

Tried and true blend that can be smoked again and again
Recently started to try some different types and quality of tobacco blends to get a good feel of what I like. This was one of the "Ol' Timer's" tobacco I recently purchased. I was surprised how mellow this was but still enjoyable. Sometimes I think keeping a blend simple and doing it right goes a long way. The pouch note contained bittersweet chocolate and white sugar. The taste was well balanced all the way through with a slight nutty almost hazelnut with some light hints of the cocoa I smelled. Strength is mild but was ok with me. Tried and true blend that can be smoked again and again

A Favorite from my youth returns
I began smoking a pipe at age 15. The first thing I tried was Paladin Black Cherry. So of course after a few pleasant puffs my mouth was scorched! However I was not dissuaded from pursuing pipe smoking. One day I tried a blue pouch of something called Edgeworth Ready Rubbed and well, I loved it. It became one of my favorites. Years later I again began to smoke a pipe but Edgeworth wasn't to be found at the news stand or drug store as in my youth. The brick and mortar store didn't have it and even when the internet became my preferred place to shop for tobacco I couldn't find it. I became an "English blend" smoker but still smoked other varieties including another old favorite, Carter Hall. I just tried this new Lane Limited ERR re-do and it's wonderful. While it's been many years, this is what I remembered it to be, a very smooth, bite-less, creamy, nutty, satisfying Burley blend, nicer than Carter Hall. LLRR isn't heavily flavored like an aromatic but has enough flavoring to enhance the natural Burley flavor. What a pleasure. I highly endorse this reincarnated classic tobacco.

Ready rubbed and reliably convienet.
Great bag aroma which is shown in the mild room note it gives off. Great to mix in with some value pipe blends for a quick rollie, or awesome straight up in a stubby glass pipe. Overall 5 stars for p&c delivery and customer service as always and about a 4 for the ready rubbed itself. Id say ill buy again if i end up not liking Granger to be used for the same purposes.

It was fast and easy. My Dad was spending a pretty penny for his Carter Hall...I had to find a better way to supply his demands. This has worked out great. Thank you so much...a happy customer!

Solid Burley not complex
This OTC is growing on me. I really like Velvet and CH. I recently tried LL and at first I was not impressed. I have continued to smoke this in a cob and brier. It gets better with each bowl. It has a nice pouch note. It pack well and lights easy and stays lit. It burns to a nice light gray ash and leaves no goopy mess in the bowl. This does not bite and is a nice smoke to start the day along with ending the day. If you like burly and a smoke that is not complex you should enjoy LL.

First Try with Lane Limited
I just received my pouch of Lane Limited and I wanted to try it quickly. The pouch note I liked. It reminded me of a burly from back in the day. The moisture content was how I like to receive tobacco, not to moist or dry. Not sure how to describe the cut but was not ribbon. Sort of like SWR. It did pack well. I did my pre light then tampered it down lightly and relit. It stayed lit just about to the end. I like that. It burnt down to a dark gray ash without any goo like an aromatic might leave. This was to me a nice light burly blend. Very mild nutty taste. I did not pickup any chocolate taste. The flavor stayed even through out the smoke. No bite and I smoked it hard and then slowly. Comparing to CH, LL is a little less flavorful but I like both....depending on my mood. Much better than SWR.

Wasn't to sure I was going to like this tobacco but after smoking it I find it to be really enjoyable

Excellent!
Great old time baccy! Light it, tamp it, light again and then puff it slow. Best way to enjoy the mild virginia, and nutty flavor in the burley and never have to light again or feel any tongue bite. Very subtle flavors best enjoyed in a slow, gentle draw. Truly a no frills, enjoyable blend.

Comfortable like your favorite jeans.
This isn't my normal smoke and my story mirrors others. My Dad used to smoke Carter so I got a pouch to try in his memory. I too, ended up gravitating to the morning pipe with coffee. It is satisfying, the best of the regular retail tobaccos I've tried. A bit nutty, soft & toasted with loads of smoke. Easy to pack, light and burns fine if fast. It has a certain comfort level and starts the day off just right. My usual stuff is too strong for the early a.m. so every morning I look forward to having the first pipe of the day "with" Dad.

Great Mixer
True what's said as a mixer. I bought Lane 1 Q but I needed more flavor. So, I did a 60% 1 Q, 20 % Carter Hall and 20 % BC. Let the mix sit for 2 weeks and I got a really great smooth smoke. Carter Hall saved the day and 1 lb. of 1Q.

Basic great smoke!
A solid basis for comparison. Just returned to pipe smoking after many years. In the last couple of months have tried 6 or 7 aromatic and English blends. Read reviews and thought I should try this. Nice nutty cocoa like burley taste. Smoothe. What you want a pipe tobacco to taste like without bite. Inexpensive, basic good smoke. Just starting a rotation and this will be in it. Thanks to previous reviewers for guiding me to this!

Never disappoints. The king of store-bought.
Fantastic. For a readily available tobacco.. you'd be hard-pressed to find a better one for the price. It never disappoints. A wonder naturally sweet Burley taste without any chemical aftertaste. Terrific aroma, no bite. Fab.

Carter Hall is my favorite tobacco for every day smoking. Smooth with no "bite" to it.

Surprised!
First bowl of CH and I'm pleasently surprised. Easy to light, good taste all the way through, and I could swear that sometimes I get a hint of cherry on the nose. I tried Prince Albert and the taste and room smell seems better with this. Will definitely try a few pouches of this as it looks promising.

No frills, just good !
Carter Hall is basic. Hint of a very slight topping but basically just a good burley/virginia. No bite, cool smoking, and burns down to a fine white ash. Easy all day smoke!

Great All-Day tobacco - Classic Burley Nutty Taste
Been smoking a pipe for almost 40 years now. CH was always one of those drugstore brands, along with a myriad of others long since forgotten, that was always an available staple. I've tried custom blends, ordered a ton of tobacco on line, but always go back to CH for it's consistency. It's always seemed nutty to me, and I love the burley taste. I'm generally into the English blends for fun, but for an all-day smoke, nothing beats Carter Hall.

A True Old Friend
My Dad used to smoke this so naturally I gave it a try when I was old enough to pick up the pipe. This is my all time favorite. I always keep a couple pouches around. It's consistent in taste and burns nicely. I personally prefer it in a cob but briars are good too. On top of that is the price. If you want to conserve on your pricier baccy, this is a great all day smoke so you can save those fancy tins for special occasions. I haven't tried the tub yet but will definitely give it a shot. I hope this stays around for a long time. Jeff A.

Dads Tobacco
When I left for the service in the 60's I gave my dad a Kaywoodie pipe. When I came home I would see the pipe was well used. When I moved away, every time I came home Dad was smoking that pipe. When he passed, it was one of the things that I brought home. Never smoke it as it was pretty worn. One winter day I decided to clean it up and give it a try, not really expecting to put it in rotation. As I started to load the pipe I thought, the only tobacco ever smoked in that pipe was Carter Hall. So the next day, I found a pouch and not expecting much I smoked my first bowl, and surprise I found that I liked it. In my next order I will get some more to keep on hand just for this pipe. Sure I have better tobaccos, but when I smoke this it takes me back to being with Dad. Rest in peace Dad.

drug store tobacco
I smoked a lot of Cherry Blend in my misspent youth. Carter hall is a lot like that but without the hint of cherry, kind of like cigarette tobacco in my opinion. Today there are many more choices beyond the drug store and even places like Smokers Choice for less than the price of carter hall. Right now I am trying various samples, 3 or 4 tobaccos usually at reduced prices, most better than Carter Hall, in my opinion.

Fantastic Room Note!
This one takes you back to Grandpa, room note is sweet, slightly musty. If I didn't live with the wife, I would sprinkle a little of this on the burner of the electric stove when I woke up in the morning. But I don't smoke for the room note. It starts out like it smells, but soon tastes like a damp hobo crawled in your mouth to take a nap, with a hint of cardboard sprinkled in brown sugar (not unpleasant, a good Sunday afternoon aromatic). Just lacks character in the taste department.

Highly recommended
This has been my favorite tobacco for years. Cool, nice flavor, not too expensive, easy to smoke, what's not to like? I try others for variety and to see what's out there, but I always come home to CH. I really like the taste, and because it smokes so cool I can enjoy it without working at it, just relax and smoke.

A good all-day smoke.
Gotta retract my previous review. I gave my pouch 2 weeks rest and it made a big difference. Nice tobacco taste with Virginia being the most prominent. No tongue bite this time and I'm on my 2nd continuous bowl. Will buy more. Maybe this is like cigars and h s s to be aged first.

Despite many postings here and the description on the pouch, "no bite." I found significant tongue bite. Maybe I just got a bad pouch. If you want pure tobacco taste this may fill the bill as I found no hint of any topping. However, sO think this might be better used as a mix with other blends. However, it is not for,me.

Prompt, just as expected
After checking for the Carter Hall pipe tobacco at least dozen stores, I ordered online from here. Wish I did that sooner. The pouch packet came just as expected. Enjoyed few times already. It's definitely a good stuff.

Use this as blending tobacco only.
In my first review I told everyone to skip it. Still feel that way if you intend to smoke it straight. I did find that mixed with some other tobaccos I had on hand it made a good blending tobacco. Will be ordering more to make more of my own blend. This blend may very well become my everyday smoke.

Save your money!
Save your money! Bought one pouch and smoked one bowl full. Burned hot and left a taste like tar on the tongue. For what it cost for the pouch or the tin you can by premium tobacco and get a better smoke. Will have to mix this with something to even make it tolerable!

An Original
This is one of those OTC blends that has been around for years! I remember seeing the pouches and tins in the drug store and grocery store when I was a kid! A nice mild tobacco, no bite and burns to a nice white ash!

A Sterling Classic
Carter Hall has long been regarded as one of the best OTC blends, and rightly so. It is mild, full of burley nuttiness, and topped with just a smidgen of Cocoa/Molasses; enough to accentuate the burley and the Virginia sweetness. Very balanced, and a great all day smoke for burley lovers. I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars because lately Hearth & Home has produced a match that ups the ante a bit: Chatham Manor. But it’s still hard to beat that satisfying, rounded, bready mellowness of Carter Hall. One of my favorites in the traditional American drug store blends. Get some!

Good classic
This is my second order of Carter Hall.. I picked up my first in a local B&M. Good, cheap, classic, and simple. It has a strong enough flavor to taste it, unlike some other cheap brands, and you can smoke it all day if you like. I prefer it in my estate Dr. Grabow, just so I can feel old.

First try
A excellent first try for a new tobacco smoker(me). Very mellow and nice room note.

Solid smoking, great smelling, mild blend good for anytime (or all the time!)
This is the stuff, at least for me! I tried Captain Black regular (bulk) and it was fine, but this is smoother, has good room note, and is mild enough to smoke all the time (which is just what was looking for.) If you want a strong blend this is probably not for you, but if you are looking for something forgiving and easy to smoke look no further. My pouch was not at all moist (while the Captain needed to dry for bit), it lit easily, stayed lit with no real effort, and left only ash in the bowl after burning all the way down. While it is not the only tobacco that I plan to keep on hand, it's certainly one that I will always have around. Now I understand why my grandfather bought this by the tub!
