This is currently my favorite
This is currently my favorite Virginia blend. Virginias can bite, but this one doesn't. Sweet, grassy, citrusy, and yet also figgy, but without being cloying. Good taste and quality. No off flavors or rough spots. Pouch aroma is great and the room note is pure Virginia. Easy to pack and smoke. Benefits from a few minutes drying time but doesn't need it. In some ways it's like Mac Baren Virginia No. 1, but without the bite or the topping. It also has more depth. Amphora Virginia scratches my Virginia itch without forking over hard earned funds for Capstan and Peterson Flake.

Not a great deal of taste, but pretty smooth … probably will buy again. Mixed it with the amphora Latakia.

Good blend
It was good blend. Aroma was nice. Had a good sweetness to it. I’ll definitely have this as a replacement to another tobacco I wasn’t impressed by at all. Just one to fall back on from time to time.

Amphora Virginia Blend has become
Amphora Virginia Blend has become my go-to pipe tobacco of choice. Recent restrictions on flavored tobacco in my state prompted me to choose this product as my favorite. It is a smooth, pleasant, and balanced tobacco. Perhaps Cavendish is the term I’m looking for. Mellow and sweet, AVB has my highest recommendation.

Because of it's common enjoyability and the quality of such a tobacco, I ordered the aromatic, but received the regular, then reordered aromatic. I thought it overrated. It was ok, but nothing to write home about.y

Great As A Mixer Or On It's Own!
Amphora Virginia is a good quality blend at a bargain price. It is a broken flake made up of different types of Virginia tobaccos that have been pressed together, which marry up the flavors and give the smoker the impression that the blend has been aged. Amphora Virginia isn't going to offer all of the grassy or citrusy notes that you'll find in other more expensive blends, this is however a mellow, cool smoking, tin-worthy blend in a plastic pouch that is excellent for taming strong blends and as a mild all day smoke on it's own. The manufacturer of the Amphora blends is Mac Barren and I used this blend to tone down a tin of HH Rustica which was a little on the harsh/acrid side for me and the 50/50 blend with Amphora Virginia really smoothed it out and made it one of my favorite home made blends. I would definitely recommend Amphora Virginia to anyone who likes to make their own blends or just wants to find a quality all day smoke at a good price.

Great for a Newbie.
As a new pipe smoker I was all over the place trying different tobacco. Some was a little wet, others seemed dry, some smoked hot. I have not tried cake or chunk tobacco yet so who knows what that will be like. Of all the brands Amphora Virginia seems to smoke mild, something a newbie needs. I keep trying others but I keep going back to Amphora Virginia.

Amphora Virginia Blend by Mac Barens
I favor Virginia tobaccos and this Amphora Virginia is top notch. Union Square is a benchmark virginia to me and I find the Amphora a goos substitute especially at this price point. It has become part of my weekly rotation and could be an all day.

Great!
This is definitely one I will buy more of. Even though it was difficult to light, it was great once I got it going.

Excellent
This is simply a great, solid Virginia and at the price—an outstanding value, thus the five stars. Is it the best? That’s far too relative for each person, but again, at its price point, it’s hard to beat. Tastes—in my estimation—like a Virginia should. No funky things going on. This will certainly be a regular of mine.

Amphora Va. Blend
Much better now that MacBaren has taken over. A smooth, flavorful straight Virginia, Cavendish style that all Virginia lovers should try.

Worth a try !
When opening the pouch a tangy sweet aroma from the blend was pleasantly noticed. The blend is shredded but packs well. After the charring the blend starts out dry, but gets slightly sweet as I had smoked the bowl down . A nice straight forward Virginia blend that is old fashioned but very good in it's character .

My favorite straight Virginia
From the first pouch, this became my favorite straight Virginia. I absolutely love the flavor. In my opinion it tastes a lot better than Union Square, and has the added benefit of not being so strong that it makes me feel sick. It's a bit moist in the pouch and a little hard to light, but once I get it going it behaves very well as as long as I watch my pace it doesn't bite me. An absolute must for every time I make a purchase here. Would love to see a larger package available!

Outstanding!
Absolutely, positively OUTSTANDING! This blend is good! This reminds me so much of Troost slices and the way it tasted. Mellow, creamy , hay like Virginia tobaccos. A slight sweetnes and NO BITE. I’m ordering more right now.

Don’t overlook this gem...
This is a fine tobacco. A cavendished blend that is ready rubbed a bit and delivered in a sealed foil bag. Seems to work best firmly packed in a tall narrow bowl. Lights pretty easily and keeps going with little attention. A rich and smoky flavor with a good bit of Virginia sweetness. Wife doesn’t complain about the aroma either. It’s a peasant long lasting smoke. I initially tried it in an English pot bowl but it seemed to burn too hot there so I went to a Missouri Meeeschaum General, their tallest bowl...works just fine, much better than the short open pot bowl. I like it. Smokes all the way to the bottom with nothing much but gray ashes and no excess moisture. If you’re looking for a change of pace and like Virginia blends, this may be worth trying. The usual Amphora quality is clearly evident. It would take a bit of work to use this as a blender as the rubbed out strands are long and a little chunky but in its untouched presentation it goes into a pipe just fine and is a pleasure to smoke.

Mellow Gold
I was pleasantly surprised by the mellow, sweet, grassy goodness of this blend. Highly recommended for a great Virginia experience.

Right For Virginia Lovers
I have found myself returning to Virginia tobacco over the years. This time my choice fell on Amphora, and I was not disappointed. To the contrary. Very fine smoke, indeed.

great quality as usual for Amphora
this is really good stuff. A tart, plum-like pouch aroma and flavor. Comparable for me to Erinmore and others. If you like broken Virginia flake, then I would certainly give this one a shot. I only dinged it one star because I normally smoke aromatics and the room note on this one can't compare.

well balanced perfection
Do you like tobacco that is not overly salty but by no means moldy? Do you like tobacco that stays lit but has no discernable ammonia taste? Do you like tobacco that burns slowly but is not masked with waxiness? these criteria all apply to this blend.

smooth and robust
yes it's both robust and yet also smooth. tired of aromatic top notes but don't want a dry flash in the pan, just tear up some of these dark flakes that the subtle yellow pouch is packed with, (it's a lot like grinding your own whole bean coffee) and get ready for a nice experience.

Nice Surprise
I got this on a deal with a pipe from P & C. I was more interested in the pipe than the tobacco which I thought I would probably ditch after one pipeful. I got quite a surprise. I never smoked a full Virginia (usually Vapers) and I usually graduate towards Latakias, the heavier, the better. My surprise was how much I liked this tobacco. It had a natural sweetness and a subtle fruit flavor, with no discernible tongue bite. The only drawback, and a minor one at that, was that it was a little wet out of the pouch. That is easily remedied however. I think most smokers will like this so it is worth a try.

A new favorite
Half way through my first pouch and I am impressed. Cool and sweet

My favorite straight Virginia
I've tried a lot of straight Virginias, and this is my current favorite. Better flavor than Union Station and without the heavy nic hit, not as bitey as Virginia No 1, and very similar to HH Virginia but a little sweeter, and cheaper!

A Virginia that delivers
Amphora's Virginia Blend definitely has the flavor complexity and depth without being overpowering I am looking for. If you steer clear of Virginias due to bite, "grassy/hay" notes, or just they didn't deliver enough flavor I urge you to reconsider.

EXCELLENT STRAIGHT VIRGINIA AT A SOLID PRICE.
Broken flake that arrived just a bit moist in the pouch. 15 min of drying time and it was good to go. Easy to light and keep lit with typical Virginia grass/hay and citrus notes. It does have a bit of spice and earthy flavor to it as well. Sweetness was noted from the beginning but not overly sweet. Not harsh and no tongue bite if smoked slowly. Overall a quality straight Virginia at a good price. 4 1/2 stars out of 5 rounded up to 5 because I can’t get it to let me give a 1/2 Star...Recommended.

Good - old friend
I use to buy Amphora Yellow when I worked in France. Seems the same. Milder than Red or Green, but with the same famous cut and "smokability".

Sleeper Virginia
I’d heard mixed things about the Amphora line, but this has become one of my favorite afternoon Virginia’s. Burns great. Can get a little hot(it is a Virginia), but it’s grassy sweet and smooth.

Easy to like
It had to be dried out a bit...first try it wouldn’t light or stay lit easily and the steamed tongue bite was not nice. Next morning I opened the pouch again, fluffed the great looking ready rubbed and let it sit open under a fan in 40% humidity for about five hours. Later, when my tongue had recovered, I tried it again...large 50 year old Comoy’s billiard...two hours later, after carefully packing and lighting, it was finished. One intentional relight and one or two necessary relights. It’s an easy smoke, cool, dry and with a bit of unexpected strength. Fine flavor and subtle sweetness. Wife reports the room note is ho hum. I’d say it’s as good a Virginia as your likelyl to find in this price range. I was sorry to get to the end of that first great bowl. The fresh mowed field grasses aroma and, to an extent, flavor was brought home to me when I first opened the pouch and finally got it lit. Earlier that day, driving across Texas and Oklahoma, I lowered my driver’s side window to inhale the smell of freshly mowed median and shoulder grasses...same aroma/smell. I think they have a winner here, but dry it before you try it. It won’t feel moist in the pouch but there’s more there than a quick touch reveals.
