Baraccini Mare Blu Smooth

Baraccini Mare Blu Smooth pipes are the perfect intersection of the contemporary and the classic. The series consists of traditional shapes but with a color scheme that brings the line into today. These Italian-made briars are stained midnight blue and given a satin finish. Then a two-tone blue swirled acrylic stem is added with a thin metal trim ring separating the stem from the shank. With Baraccini Mare Blu Smooth you have a modern look without being flashy.

Very handsome, good quality
What a handsome pipe! I love the modern technology which allows us to dress up our smoking implements in such a way. From a distance the bowl appears to be black, but the light reveals it to be a deep, variegated indigo color. The blue swirled stem looks great, and the pipe has already received positive comments. Mine (the Zulu shape #404) has a thick, oval shank that seems quite sturdy so far. The stem insert terminates in a narrower piece that fits into a corresponding narrow hole in the shank, which means that, like other Barracini pipes I've had, it cannot be used with a filter. That's fine, as I rarely smoke hot enough to create and draw up goop from the pipe, and clean it with a pipe cleaner after every smoke. Speaking of cleaning, the draw hole in the mouthpiece end of the stem is very small. One will not be able to get a bristled or fluffy pipe cleaner through it. As someone who is outdoors often, and moves often, I tend to lose or break pipes. Therefore, I cannot justify spending a lot of money on them. At under $100, this pipe is a good value for me. I've consistently come back to Barracini pipes over the years, preferring them to the Dr. Grabow pipes I started out with. I am a smoker, not a hobbyist. I might someday spend hundreds of dollars on a more expensive designer pipe, but for now, any of the quality, affordable pipes offered by Pipes & Cigars are perfectly good for smoking and enjoying tobacco. Much thanks to P. & C. for continuing to be the best tobacco and accoutrements store on the web.
