Bengal Slices Single Barrel

The Bengal Slices family continues to grow, this time with a limited-edition blend with a very special and unique story behind it. The folks behind the brand were told about the availability of a fresh, empty bourbon barrel from the best-known single-barrel brand on the market. We can't tell you the name, but we'll tell you that it's also known for its collection of racehorse bottle stoppers. They selected a special tobacco blend with a more modest amount of Latakia, so the infusion of bourbon flavor would be clearly noticeable. The tobacco was laid to rest in the barrel for a full month to allow the infusion of buttery-smooth bourbon flavor to take hold. Then the tobacco was pressed into a crumble cake to further embed the flavor into the leaf.

Since the barrel can only be used once since the essence of the premium bourbon evaporates fairly quickly, they were limited to a relatively small number of tins that could be produced. The result is a very different blend with a mellow English blend flavor supported by the gentle infusion of caramelly bourbon flavor.  Be sure to act quickly. These won't last long.

Two things I like a lot: Bengal Slices and good bourbon
Knowing this was a limited release I got 4 tins since the original is high on my favorites list and I love a good bourbon. No buyer's remorse at all, it's delicious and close to the original without being too similar. My only gripe is that I was going through all my unopened tins the other day and noticed one of the BSSB tins sounded more shaky, and my suspicions were confirmed when I gave the lid a twist and it opened with minimal effort revealing a dry and crumbling block of tobacco. Shame since it was never dropped and was definitely sealed upon arrival but that's life sometimes

Excellent tobacco
Awesome tobacco. The bourbon comes out nice, clean flavor, not much of a bite, the Latakia isn’t over the top, the orientals are delightful and the cavendish makes it smooth. Great smoke.

Purchased one tin and after
Purchased one tin and after one bowl, I quickly ordered a second one. I enjoy regular Bengal slices and Bengal slices white but this is a different experience. Medium flavor, no bite and the smell of bourbon mixed with latakia from the tin equates to a favorable occasional smoking experience. It packed easily and burnt nicely with only an occasional relight. However, be warned, the room not isn't pleasant. The smell of the smoke in an open garage nearly gave my lady an asthma attack..lol. It was to good to stop smoking, so I still finished the bowl!

A gem of an evening smoke
A fine evening smoke. Very flavorful and easy to smoke. Cuts well. Pairs well with a single malt.

Nice flavor and aroma. Comes
Nice flavor and aroma. Comes through as strong or better than Borkum Riff whiskey, which I like, but I would say this may be a bit smoother. I tend to mix with a little BCA rather than doing full bowls of this just out of habit and I tend to like these distinct flavors more as a background. Enjoyable and would get again.

An interesting smoke.
I bought this tin with the idea in mind of tossing it in the cellar and letting it age a few more years but my curiosity got the better of me so here we go. Upon opening the aroma didn't smell like any tobacco I had ever used. I selected a medium bowl meerschaum and began the process. The tobacco is more like little sticks rather than flakes but it crumbled and rolled out nicely. Seemed a little too damp but I didn't dry it and it packed with a gentle press. Lit and burned evenly and slowly. Now to the weird part. It did not taste like tobacco. I was 3/4 through the bowl when it hit me. The taste was that of the charred cast or keg it was aged it. Somewhat like a dead and damp campfire but very mild. No bite, mild after taste and solid mouthfuls of smoke. As I said...interesting and kinda fun but not something I need more of.

Here and there with a bit of care.
Not an all day smoke, to be sure.( For one thing, whoever smokes this all day, would have camel breath). It is good tobacco....... more for a mood than for a go-to. The barrel aged effect is readily discernible and enjoyable. Quite distinct from the regular Bengal Slices. Room note is more for men than ladies. This would not fare well as a social smoke. More for the man cave. Rich in flavor. ...... smooth if sipped ....... care needed when crumbling. Can easily see this ghosting a bowl, so, designate a particular pipe. For me this is a once in a while blend.

Nice bourbony English
I've never even had the original and I was going to buy some on sale when these popped up so I ordered 4. Being a lover of SPC PPBB and someone who has infused Russ' Tastykake with bourbon, I had to get some to try. Very nice. Most of the other reviews here nailed it. Too bad it's a limited run. REal nice bourbon tin note and yes they're a bit moist. Lovely flavor but my wife thinks it stinks. Bonus!

Excellent, Knocks out Plum Pudding Bourbon Barrel For me.
I have smoked through 2 tins of this now in the last 2 weeks. Love this version, excellent flavours coming through. I normally smoke SPC PP Bourbon barrel and I actually prefer this. Less barnyard (especially compared to SPC PP SR Flake) - more robust and deep. Been smoking pipes for 20 years and this is memorable for me to enjoy something like this in such a fresh state. Good in all shapes though it does destroy the palate after a larger pipe. Doesn't bite and easy to light. Who doesnt love the crumble kake? I like that it has a bit more of the VA sweetness coming through but still nice incense, campfire smoke, smooth. Its got more dimensions than just latakia. The bourbon is definitely noticeable; too bad its limited -- would buy this over the normal production.

If only this wasn't such a limited run
Having enjoyed the original Bengal Slices very much, plus being a bit of a whiskey connoisseur, this was an obvious must try for me. Blantons infused tobacco? Yes, please. The bourbon is very much present upon opening the tin. It is present in the flavor, but to me, it is very much an undertone that helps highlight the beatiful incense like orientals. It's too bad this is so limited, because this might be the best tobacco I've enjoyed, and would absolutely be in my rotation at all times. I guess it'll just have to be a special treat. Ordering a few more tins to cellar while I still can! I recommend you do the same!

A "Must Try" for Bengal Slice fans
Outstanding. Obvious bourbon tin note and sweetness at first light. Taste of bourbon seems to mesh extremely well with the oriental and latakia the further you down you smoke the bowl. Not too too sweet or overpowering, definitely worth a try if you like bengal slices. Smoked straight out of the tin with no drying time and didn't have any issues mechanically. Grabbed 2 tins one- to demolish now and the other to cellar for a special occasion.

Don’t taste the bourbon
Absolutely beautiful tobacco to look at. Though most and needs to dry a bit, careful how you rub it out,or it will turn to dust.I don’t have a great pallet for tasting tobacco, but it burns well. No bite..can never seem to get Blantons here so I bought 2 tins. One to smoke and one to cellar .
