My Favorite P&C Match Blend
Four stars and not five stars because I like less aromatics and flavorings than are commonly available these days.

Great english blend!
Match My Mixture 965.... If you are looking for a great example of an English blend, then this is the one. There is nothing else I can say.

I can't tell a difference in tobacco. It meets all my expectations. Love the stuff. My wife keeps saying I lit a kerosene heater

My mixture 965
This is a decent blend on its own but has a bit much latikia for my personal taste however it burns very well with no bite. I’d definitely buy again (I mixed 50/50 with Flying Dutchman and it makes it more to my liking)

MATCH My Mixture 965 - not as strong as the original in my view
MATCH My Mixture 965 is a good tobacco and well priced. I can smoke it all day - has no bite and is rlatively cool. However, to my taste memory, Peter Stokkebye 52 Proper English is closer to the original 965 in that it has both the punch and aroma.

My favorite blend!
I'm new to pipe smoking, about 1 month as of 13 Jan 2018. I've missed out on the real "My Mixture 965". I randomly ordered this and love it. Not sure of the components, but awesome go to blend. I'm ordering 3 oz any time I order.

Match 965 close
This is a very close match, but is missing something. BUT, I still like it, and so far this is my favorite english/scottish/balkan blend. My favorite is smoking it in a MM General Corn Cob for a great 1 1/2 hour enjoyable smoke.

This is a good Balkan style mixture which smokes well with only white ash left at the end. The tastes are quite good and last through the smoking time.

Y'know, I'm not sure what folks are after. It tastes good. It is good.

Good value
I like Dunhill more, but this is close to it, although, not as strong. They did a pretty good job on it. Maybe if you cellared it for a while? I will buy again.

Very good but missing a lil zest
I am still refining my palate so I by no means feel qualified to review lol. My first English was John Bull in a sampler pack, I was hooked instantly. Then I tried PS luxury, it was very good too. Match fits the same bill. It was strong but not make you sweat and contemplate upchucking strong. It had spice and sweet zest yet mellow at the same time it ticks all the boxes my brain has set in regards to taste and smell yet I feel it’s missing some zest. Nonetheless it is good! I never had the fortune to try Dunhill so as I cannot compare but if your looking for a good English try this I dare!! Please excuse my grammar I’m just a good Old country boy whom enjoys my pipes!!

Match My Mixture 965
Blend of tobacco is good, but the ribbon cut changes pack, burn and overalll taste. Any chance of a Riff or fine cut on this blend?

Good Match
Tastes and smokes like Dunhill’s tinned tobacco. Very pleased!

965 Bliss
965 blend has become my favorite blend now of latakia loose blends. The flavor is full and rich, and it lights and burns cool and easily. So I have stocked up on Match my mixture 965. It is so good!

I try other tobaccos but I always come back to mm965 because it's just raised the bar so high in my mind

Heat Until The Heavy Casing Dissipates
The Match 965, although not an aromatic, arrived with a very noticeable top dressing. It was not simply over humidified! As such, it was virtually non-combustible and when I could get it lit, it smoked very hot. In an attempt to salvage 1/2 lb., I spread it out on a cookie sheet and put it in the oven at 225 degrees until it felt dry. After removing it, I misted it with distilled water and packed it tightly into a jar. Five days later, I had a very near clone to Sutliff Balkan II.

Not Even Close
In its own right, I would call this Match blend an English aromatic. It is really no match for the real Dunhill My Mixture 965. The Cavendish in the Match is very forward, and will appeal to an aromatic smoker who wants to dip into an English style blend with some Latakia. I just did a side by side comparison of the two blends, and I find the Match version to be lacking the nuance and complexity of the Dunhill 965. The tangy flavor that you get in the Dunhill is absent, the Latakia comes and goes, and the subtle sweetness of the Dunhill is missing. It is not nearly as balanced and smooth as the Dunhill. Give this one a pass unless you are new to English blends and just want to dip your bowl into some Latakia.

Dunhill 965 Match (Sutliff)
I've gone through about a pound and a half of this blend. I've burned it in a variety of briars: Dunhill, Charatan, Barling, Castello, Ashton's, Caminetto, Peterson's System, even Kaywoodie and Custom Built. I've also used it in a few meershaum pipes. Nice cake not particularly wet nice gray-white ash. It is a pretty good blend over all, and for the price I rate it 4 out of 5 stars. It is really not anything like any iteration of the Dunhill 965's that I've smoked over the years (since 1967). The cut is really broad and hence relatively slow burning. The Latakia is well placed and you don't have to burn it hot to get really nice complex flavor from it. Even leaving it sit over night I can still enjoy a rich flavor without any bitterness. I also been smoking Sutliff's Nightcap match which is a little closer to the Dunhill blends under that name over the years. I could go on about the blend but to cut to the chase, It doesn't really substitute for Dunhill 965. For a better match, as I said, maybe try the NightCap instead.

Match My mix 965
This is your best Match yet. Longer ribbons and more flavor. A little more Latakia and it would be perfect. Its actually better than my last order of original 965.

1st blend I'd recommended.
Now I'm still rather new to pipe smoking and I have yet to get a hold of the original. But with that said, to me this is what I think of when I think pipe tobacco.

965 vs Nightcap
If Nightcap has too much kick for you, try 965. IMO, 965 is a mild version of Nightcap. Still got the taste, but, not as much kick Another great smoke from P&C.

A very good smoke, highly recommended
This was the first English blend that I fell in love with. Never smoked the Dunhill, so won't compare them. This blend has a complexity that I never expected in such an economical tobacco. The taste lingers and develops in my mouth after each puff. It's not something I'd keep in my mouth all day; not because it't not good enough, but because I like to smoke it when I can devote my full attention to the smoke. It's like listening to a fine piece of music. It's not overpowering like some English blends but not a lightweight either. I'd call it a 'sophisticated' taste, but I don't smoke it inside.

Really Good Tobacco
As soon as I opened the bag I could tell this was going to be a good smoking experience . It had that same aroma I remember from the when I smoked actual Dunhill.

Close substitute
Not quite the same as the original but I am aging it some to see if I get more enjoyment after letting it sit in jar for a while. Nice price though and if Dunhill is indeed gone, will work for subsitute

Great Start To The Day!
I'm enjoying a bowl of this with my morning coffee as I write this review. This is an excellent blend of tobaccos to offer a full smokey flavor with an "incense like" herbal aroma and a very nice room note. No tongue bite, not too much nicotine and an overall satisfying smoke. Great English blend,... I HIGHLY recommend this!

Match vs. Dunhill 965
OK we have match 965 and we have Dunhill 965 Mr. Alfred's personal favorite blend. The match is close but no cigar. It has a bit of a bite and is not as full as the real 965 which I have been smoking on and off for 55 years. If you're strapped for cash save a little money and buy the match. But, if you want the real McCoy get the Dunhill tobacco. I usually buy it in bulk and P & C has a pretty fair price. The Dunhill has more body to the smoke without being over powering. The Latakia is softly noted in the smoke and is no problem.

English Only Here at Home
This is an outstanding tobacco, and I recommend this as an introduction to English. I was mentored in my formative years of piping by an old offensive lineman from New Jersey, and it was at his urging that I first sought out Latakia. Coach Dan, you are a scholar and a gentleman who never steered me wrong on pipes or tobacco. None of this is your fault. In the last few months I returned to pipes after 15+ years of cigarettes. Honestly, if I had succeeded in hands-free vaping I would never have picked up another pipe, especially after fifteen years without. At my bench during the day I smoke aros in my lighter-weight pipes, puffing contentedly while my hands do other things, but in the evenings I move to heavier pipes ( hand pipes, as I call 'em) and heavier tobaccos. This Battle of the Blends between Match and Dunhill has been joined, therefore, by John Bull and Sutliff's Fox & Hound. I've been enjoying the John Bull quite a lot the last few evenings - the bit of burley really has a positive effect on the overall taste - and my son, on leave from the Navy, smoked up the last of the F&H. So tonight I packed my old Sasieni bulldog with Dunhill and got down to business. My first bowl of this blend was smoked in subfreezing weather, outside, in the dark. I was not impressed. I have since learned just how pronounced an effect ambient temperature has on the taste of a pipe - I've known all along that overheating can ruin a briar (as well as a tongue, of course), but I never knew that a pipe has to get up to a reasonable temperature for the taste to develop properly. Here in Mississippi the subject had simply never come up before, but now I know. The following bowls were smoked indoors, leisurely, and I am more impressed with each puff. The Match is more a tribute than an imitation, but both are excellent. Dunhill has a cigar-ish room note but my gf tolerates it well.

Latakia Lovers Look Longingly, Then Leap.
The 965 mano a mano between Match and Dunhill is the most fun I've had since getting back to pipes after my wandering listlessly in Camel Land. The Battle of the Blends is a beautiful concept, executed beautifully, and this particular matchup is an eye-opener. As a side note, as a result of this battle I will start cellaring, and my next P&C order will include Bengal Slices. Both of these Blends are great, so there are no real losers here, but the Match emerges victorious because of the x-factor, despite the excellence of both 965's. IMO a good English tobacco should be smoky, oaky, and dry, reminiscent of a good whiskey (scotch, not bourbon, my American friends), but the Match also provided a faint teasing floral note - almost incense - that brought back my first experiences with English nearly twenty years ago, and a blend for which I willingly traveled two hours, uphill, barefoot. The differences between the two 965 contenders are many. Dunhill looks nearly like a shag instead of the nice ribbon of the Match. The Match had optimal moisture out of the bag, while the Dunhill was a tad dry & therefore burned a little hotter initially - but that was correctable and corrected. Match edges out Dunhill in room note, too, but only barely, and this is perhaps where Dunhill disappoints, with more cigar smell than pipe. My favorite pipe is not my most expensive pipe, nor is my favorite shirt the most costly. So while Match is slightly less expensive, that is only a small consideration in this matchup. I will pay more for quality, but my loyalty is to my taste, not to brand names. I am proud to call both of these blends excellent, but I'm much more likely to buy much much more of the Match.

Real Good Smoke
A little more milder than Dunhill, but its good. Especially with a little pinch of Burley added to the bowl full.

Update From February
I haven't tried a lot of the Dunhills, and Kevin B. write below MM965 is milder than Nightcap, so now I'm curious. I've been happily puffing away on 965 all year, and don't blend it with anything as I had before. 965 is a great, straight, English blend, that I would call a mix including Cyprian Latakia, but not so much a Latakia Blend. It burns well, packing is straightforward, and will stay lit fairly well. Ash is dry, doesn't smear. I could recommend it to a novice English blend experimenter without reservation. For any Latakia/U.K. aficion, My Mixture 965 is a must in the rotation.

Find the Best Tasting Tobacco
My Mixture 965 is currently my all any favorite smoke but I rely on the experience of the most popular tobaccos and pipes and never go wrong.

Very nice...
This site has a bigger selection than the tobacco shops in town. I was also able to find the right filters for my pipe, which saves me from rolling my own filters.

Denser tobacco or just me?
I received my order very quickly and was very happy with both types. The Match is better price and seemes a little sweeter but I was surpised that the Dunhill comes in 2 ziplock baggies while the Match only needed 1. Once I placed both in same size jars, the Dunhill still fills jar more with same 3 0z. Not sure if this means the Match is denser but I will probably still purchase more of Match due to cost and flavor over the original.

I love the smokey aroma and the strong presence when smoked, but I thought there might be more flavor than what comes across. A minor complaint to a very good tobacco.

Been smoking it for years. It is a full and classic smoke. Mr. Alfred's own blend. Very rewarding if you like a little latakia

First Latakia blend. I will be buying more of this.
This is my first experience with an English blend. I haven't been smoking a pipe very long, but in my opinion this stuff is delicious. Smoky, but not overly so. Just a hint of sweetness. I smoke outside, so I'm not sure about room note, but it smelled really good while I was smoking it.

I bought a 30 year memory to extract & VAPE.
The resultant syrup was spot-on. SPOT-ON, and I rolled a blunt. It tasted exactly like it came from Dunhill London. If I can help anybody learn to Vape exactly the tobacco I like, sing out.

Awesome smoke
I absolutely love this stuff. It's fairly consistent tinned and in bulk. Burns well, even in high humidity, which is nice as the wifey has designated it an outdoor smoke. It has enough nicotine to keep me from chain smoking, but not so much that I can't smoke it all afternoon. Apparently the flavor is off putting to some, but I anticipate every bowl. In fact the next time I go out for steak I may ask that they "sprinkle it with peat and set it on fire." 😜

Nostalgia
Dunhill blends are still among the world's top non-aromatic pipe tobaccos. But they are not quite what they were a few decades ago. (at least not the blends available in bulk...would the same blends in tins be better?) As much as I stand by Dunhill's high quality, I find that tobaccos such as Rattray's (also in bulk) are now superior, whereas in the past they were "equals". I do wish that more Dunhill blends were available in bulk.
4 out of 5
Pretty Good
This is a pretty good blend that I reorder occasionally. There are other Latakia blends I prefer but this is good straight up tobacco. Creamy and slight sweet it will satisfy the crave for the smoky stuff.

A Really Good "Match"
This is an excellent match to My Mixture 965. Same smoky smell and taste. The moisture content was very nice. I put in some old saved Dunhill tins and almost forget it isn't the real thing.
3 out of 5
Disappointing
On this last batch, I'd describe it as corse and gnarly. Taste and aroma is on target, but the 'riff' cut is a bit heavier than normal, and there is an abnormal amount of stem and stalk embedded with the leaf. Having ordered, smoked and enjoying this blend for years, I'd presume this last batch to be an anamoly.
4 out of 5
Better than originally thought
I'm new to pipes, only been at it for a couple years now. I got this 965 blend in bulk. When I first tried it in a new pipe I really disliked it. The Latakia was so strong and up front that I thought that was all this blend has to offer. Fast forward a year or so ans I'm tired of VaPers and garden variety Aromatics. I came back to this blend and its fantastic. Being in a well broken in pipe makes this blend not only bearable, but really quite good! The Latakia makes an appearance sometimes throughout the bowl, adding it's distinctive flavor of herbs and spices. There is a decent sweet note from the Cavendish that is almost chocolatey and velvety in the mouth. There is a bit of raisin or leather notes in it as well that keep it interesting. Great stuff.

The Best of the Best of the Best My Mixture 965
My Mixture 965 is hands down my favorite blend of tobacco ever! My first bowl told me that. I must have smoked it out of my Autograph or my Radice or my Savinelli Sigla because the taste was perfect. I could simply rave about this blend if there were more room to write about it. And best of all, the P&C price on My Mixture 965 is so solidly affordable that I could smoke this blend all day. The other thing is that we don't really know one thing about what we have yet to discover so if you have not tried My Mixture 965 I highly recommend it.

Dunhill Makes It
I have never experienced any anything at all like this tobacco. It actually gave me a divine experience. The smell of My Mixture is something from the Hobbit that Gandalf would be smoking. I am so impressed with this one tobacco. I have a magical Savinelli Sigla and smoked my first real bowl of 965 and I will never forget it. Is this enough praise for anyone else who hasn't tried it to buy some bulk and try it? I hope so, otherwise you will never know. Never, never, never.

Some bite.
The mix of this blend has a bit more of a bite than I like in my pipe. It's OK, but not as mild as I would like. It is well worth 1 oz. to see if you like it. Give it a try, it may be for you.

I have only tried this and Early Morning Pipe English blends, and I have to say this is by far better. It's smooth burns cool and is a pleasant smoke. I am still a new to pipe smoker and prefer aromatics but still want to try other English blends and I will probably buy this again.

Not bad for everyone, just not my thing. Frog Morton Cellar is (to me) much better! Wife agreed. She wasn't a fan of these either.

That's some good stuff.
Not my absolute favorite latakia blend, but it's definitely a keeper. The Cavendish mellows out the latakia in a way that can help you smoke tobacco one bowl after another. Only bad thing I can say about it is that the room note is kinda funky.

Not my cup of tea!
I'm a noob when it comes to pipe smoking but I know what I like, the orientals in this blend add a spice that I'm not particularly fond of which make me more susceptible to tongue bite or at least that's in my case, the blend is not bad just the spice I don't like IMO

Lovely flavor and quality
I am generally an aromatic smoker, but this is my go to English blend. Very flavorful, but not overwhelming. Packs and burns great. Tolerable to pleasant room note. What's not to like? I don't have a ton of experience with English blends, but to me this is a high quality blend with wonderful consistency. Stores/ages very well which is nice for an aromatic smoker like me who takes a long time to smoke up his English blends.

My main blend for 18 years!
I stumbled across this bulk blend by accident at my favorite tobacconist in the 1990's and it immediately became my permanent English blend; one of the two I rotate between permanently ever since. I love this blend! Full flavor yet balanced in a way I taste the individual tobaccos as well. Never a bite when slowly drawn. Always consistant and as I said: I love this blend. I get a tin of three other English blends once in a while as a change of pace; but I stopped "searching for my blend" in 1997 when I found this! Try it and you won't regret it! This company is excellent in every way and the prices can't be beat...but... It took UPS 12 days to ship my order from Pennsylvania to California while another item from another company New York used USPS and theirs arrived in 4.5 days. I find UPS to be consistently slower and problematic. One item was shipped to the S.F. Bay Area instead of Sacramento and UPS started to argue it was the same place...no kidding. When the C.S. rep googled it she actually said "Oops!". Mistakes happen but UPS does this too much and if you are in the package delivery business I would think you'd master zip codes and map reading. I'm sticking with USPS. Otherwise all went great.

Good stuff.
I really love Nightcap and 10 Russians but was looking for something that is just as satisfying but with less nicotine. This is it. Isn't as strong on the Latakia but it's tasty. Downside is it drys out really fast. Also the taste seams A little different from Tin to tin - that might be an age thing.

Perfect
I bought 1 oz because not sure if I would like this blend. Well I have to say LOVE IT. Great flavor not too Smokey with mild sweetness, with a quality tobacco. I usually smoke aromatics but want to try different types of tobacco. So glad I bought this.

Reminds me of the wool shed
This tobacco is good. The cut makes for easy packing, it lights easily and stays lit-you can probably smoke to the very bottom of the bowl-and you will want to do that with this tobacco...it tastes amazing. I really like the leathery/oily taste it has, if you have ever smelt (or tasted from hand residue) the oil that comes from sheep wool then you will know what I mean-that is what I associate with this taste. And you know that you are smoking, there is just the right amount of nicotine, for me anyway. The room note is very pleasant, not "cigaretty". Go ahead, get an ounce and give it a try-i don't think you will regret it.

If it was MY Mixture, I'd be Proud of it.
Yep! I agree with the description, and all the Positive Reviews including the comments about P&C. I got my order in less than 2 days. 1 day from Shipping Confirmation notice. And that, with basic shipping cost. Magic! I'm a very new pipe smoking hobbyist. I have a few items that I really enjoy, and that I use as a benchmark, but I won't be having a Go-To tobacco for some time... not even sure what that means exactly... but I want to try a lot of different tobaccos and learn things. One thing I'm learning is that, I believe anyway, Dunhill makes some quality blends. I'm looking forward to trying more of them to see if I'm right about them being above par. To Review a Review... I like Jessie D's The Best especially his statement: "This has become my new go-to daily weed". Ha! "Go-To" it Buddy! BlowABowl and Enjoy!

I've enjoyed this mixture so much that I'll need to increase my next bulk purchase and make it a bigger part of my day....

Solid.
Solid. That's the word I would use to describe this tobacco. It's nothing stand out and it won't necessarily 'wow' you. But that is not a bad thing, it's worth keeping around. It's a nice enjoyable smoke that won't underwhelm nor overwhelm you.

packaging not good
I ordered 2 different tobaccos. the nightcap and dunhill 965. The only complaint I have it that during shipping, the tobacco lost too much moisture and flavor. It really needs to be in vacuum sealed bags when buying in bulk. tins are good
