I like this a lot. It is an aromatic but still has the aroma of an old time tobak. Not perfumy.

Honestly, for a drug-store blend, I love this stiff. I keep coming back to it. The roommate is good, the taste is subtle and not overpowering. It has a bit of sweetness and I can taste the Virginia (it is certainly not half the blend, though!). I tend to go for anything with a bit of Virginia in it, burley is good a nutty, but it tends to leave my palate tasting like it for a day. The bright Virginia moderates that and adds a nice grassy, sweet, flavor and balance. This is my go-to pouch. I should buy a can.

This is my 2nd attempt at smoking a pouch of Half and Half and I still get serious tongue bite. The pouch note is wonderful, with the strong sweet smell of Honey. The flavor is nice as well, I just can't get past the tongue bite no matter how slow I smoke it.

H&H is about the only "codger pouch" I like. A nice, easy smoke. It's also a good blending component - I mix a little Virginia and Perique in with it as a condiment.

So far Half and Half is one of my favorites, It's great when I mix it with captain black royal. I really like the smell as soon as I open the bag. It's always fresh

I grabbed some Half and Half because it's what my grandpa used to smoke and I wanted some nostalgia. Really great aroma and super smooth smoking for such a cheap tobacco. I will be incorporating it into my daily tobaccos with the likes of my favorite Captain Black.

5 stars for being so good at what it is: an all-American aromatic. But they got the third topnote wrong. It isn't maze, it's MACE -- a sister spice to nutmeg. That would match the other two topnotes in the mix: cardamom and coriander. I would have preferred just burly and bright with perique for a bit of spice. But that would be Country Gentleman. This is something else, as it should be.

I LOVE half and half, but may just switch to No. 79 as my daily smoke. It is cool, no-bite, smells and tastes amazing. Very pleasing and no one around me ever complains when I smoke this out and about. Seems to deliver a decent nic hit too.

Ehhh. Didn’t stay lit for me and provided a lot of tongue bite for me. Rolled it into some paper though and smoked it like a cigarette and it just fine. Flavorful too.

No. 79 is a fine smoke but the back bite is a little harsh. Still, it's a fine all day smoke in my opinion.

I have wanted to try several "old standards" for a while. So, I ordered a pouch of Paladin Black Cherry, Velvet, Half & Half, and Mixture #79. I will be mixing them to experiment and find my own sweet spot, but of the four, I like Mixture #79 the most. It is smooth, with an unusual but pleasant flavor. Glad I tried it.

First of all, I am sorry Pipes and Cigars, I did not buy this here. I will from now on. Now that I know. Mixture No. 79 is your old pal. He is the guy you call who will not surprise you, let you down, or cause drama. He will show up and reminisce of old times. No. 79 is mellow, cool, and good burning. I have read other reviews stating that this mixture is just boring and nothing of note. I agree, but sometimes that is all we want. There are no complex flavors or room notes, just an extreme solid and rewarding blend flavor that's not going to punch you in the duodenum when you least expect it. It is as its name suggests, just Mixture No. 79. That's it. A good mixture you can count on and brings no drama, unlike your ex.

I have my regulars. I am a creature of habit, but every once in a while I like to take myself to a new restaurant or store. This was one of those adventures. I purchased Half and Half because it continually shows up in best sellers, no matter what site you are on. I am glad I did. I don't think this is a beginner smoke. This is far to complex and possible harsh for a beginner. It took me about a third of a bowl to start admiring it. The smoke coming off continually baffled and surprised me with the notes I was detecting. Is that cinnamon? Is that Apple? What spice is that? The flavor and smell seemed to be in a constant state of metamorphosis. It was about at half a bowl, when it settled down and I really started to enjoy it. This blend had been around since puppies were the oldest Christmas gift. I remember seeing tins of it at my grandparents and my father had some as well. The room note is not for everybody. I don't mind it, its different. Not bad or good, just different. The taste is definitely flavored, but far to complex for me to figure out, so I just rode the current and let it take me where it wanted. This was a good smoke, burned very well. The biggest surprise was after I had finished and I took a drink and all the flavors of the blend came back to visit me. This was actually very pleasant.

Smoking Half & Half tastes good, the change from what, I remember from years ago when, I tried it seems a more tobacco smell that I enjoy smoking. I am hoping that storing and, giving a chance to air out what, seems in pouch freshness before, smoking or, it's just me but, I am finding a smell of lunchmeat.

Just like the new can, the pouch brings back the glory of theis old blend. If you remember this blend from about 10 years ago, try it again for the first time. STG has made this blend great again and you will see why this was a standard back in the day. Burley, a bit of anise, Virginia, that all work together.

I like this old timer smoke more than I thought I would. It has the most noticeable flavor and aroma of all the classic burley’s I’ve tried. I puff gently, as it can bite if you go too fast. The flavoring is interesting to me, I look forward to a pipe full every day.

A good tobacco

I don't know what it is about this blend but I REALLY REALLY like it. I bought a pouch at first and after the first few bowls I knew I had to get a tub of it. I felt myself longing for it all day while I was at work. It is great with that cup of coffee in the morning and great before bed. I totally understand why it has survived all these years. If you haven't tried it you should.

Love it...have smoked Half and Half for 40 years!

It took me a while to make friends with this blend. At first I liked it so I bought a tub. The stuff in the tub was not what I had in the pouch. The tub was laden with casing and it had a bite that would send Dracula running towards the Carpathian Mountains!! A few years went by, I had gifted most of the tub out to people. I decided to give it another go, so on my next tobacco order I threw in another pouch. This time it was delicious but it was still nipping at me. What I did was I started to change the type of pipe I was using. I smoked it in a few of my Kaywoodies and the stinger seemed to really help. Then I tried it in my Dr. Grabow Omega with a filter. Sublime! Tasty, tangy, smooth and a great room note! Pretty good nic-hit too.... This one you need a filter or a stinger.

When I started smoking pipe 40 years ago my first tobacco was half and half. However, I have not tried it again. It burned well and smoke well and I would buy it again.

After reading numerous reviews I was worried when I tried this one. My first bowl I did not like but my second I did. I recommend drinking something sweet like a cola or sweet tea when smoking this and it pairs very nicely. I loved my second bowl and bought a big can for later. Not the best tobacco in the world but a good smoke on the cheaper side. Will be buying more again.

For me this was a draw. I like the sweet raisin/plumb scent of the H&H just as much as the anise of the no. 79 blend. Both burn slow and smooth and easy on the tongue and have a very pleasant room note. I give 5 stars simply because I'm too new to tobacco's to have a real guage of what fine tobaccos are like, but without any real complaints about either, I can't see any reason to deduct stars.

Having seen the No. 79 for so long, I tried some- yechk! It tasted like what I imagine cigarette smoke must be like! I'll stick with Captn Black and some Petersons tinned Morning Sunrise. others may like it , but not for me....

First smoked a pipe 55 years ago. Mixture 79 was a favorite then. After not smoking for many years I have picked up my pipe again, mixture 79 is still one of my favorites.

This is a classic, this tobacco was used during the early years of great pipe smokers. Smooth, burns well,cut is small for the scoop and load your pipe , no packing. This is my go to tobacco.

It's o.k.--has a distinct almost cigar-like aroma, but the only reason I ordered it because the Prince isn't available.

I mix two Half & Half w/one E.G.R., which was Shelby Foots blend of choice. By it's self, it is a pleasing smoke, but the mixture is a great smoke. The taste and smell are very good. Room note is not overpowering.

This was a good purchase. I didn't know what to expect as a new pipe tobacco smoker but this product definitely held up to the competition on my first round of purchases. It stayed moist and didn't dry out for a long time, as I'm a recreational smoker.

Just the right blend. It is an easy smoke, and just the right bite. It has a nice room note, and a real good taste in your mouth.

Your Pap didn't smoke this for 60 years for.no reason! Its good stuff! Taste of Merica! Let the English folks smoke the English Blends. If your American.......smoke some American blends. I'm convinced its in our DNA! Good American blend with some Iced Tea, Apple Cider or even a cup of Joe. Simply nothing better! To anyone taste testing tobaccos.....take it SLOW! Don't just smoke 1 pipe full and say or think you don't like it. You have to smoke 4-5 bowls. Try with and without filters. Try in the morning, afternoon and evening. Sip at the pipe. Don't Choo Choo away at it. Take a sip of your favorite beverage after every couple hits to clean your pallete. IMO most tobaccos don't taste great the first time you smoke them. Takes you, your taste buds and your brain some time to think about and realize what you are tasting. Only then can you appreciate the tobacco and decide Yay or Nay on wether you like or enjoy it. It never will happen with the first bowl or 1 bowl! I realized this early on as I bought all the tobaccos my pap smoked. Half&Half, Carter Hall, Prince Albert, SWR, Five Brothers. I sat down and smoked a bowl of each and all I could think was this stuff is HORRIBLE and what was my pap thinking. So I got online and researched Aros and English blends. Ordered about 30 of the top rated kinds. They show up in the mail and I began to try a pipe of each. Again as I'm going I'm thinking OMG all this stuff is just as bad as the American Blends! Even worse! After I'd tried them all....I had no choice but to try some for a second time. That's where things changed for me. As I did so I started to realize hey maybe this one isn't so bad after all. Then I tried it a 3rd 4th 5th time. Every time they became better and better tasting. Going back to the original American Blends I mentioned. As I tried them again I realized those are what I liked best. Your not gonna like all tobaccos. I'd say I LIKE 20% of them and LOVE 5% of them. But now I can Appreciate 100% of them!

Half and Half is a great mixer with black cavendish. The fact it is long burning with minimum relights makes for a great blend. The Burley and Brights blend perfectly with black cavendish with an excellent taste and aroma.

I began smoking a pipe back in 1970 as a late teen. I could only afford a drugstore Dr. Grabow pipe and a small assortment of pouch tobaccos such as Borkam Riff, #79 and Half and Half. When I picked up pipe smoking again, 50 years ago almost to the day, of course I had to try an old friend again to start. It was pleasingly familiar, however, I also ordered Lane 1Q, BCA and RLP-6, Captain Black Original and Royal, GL Pease Matese Falcon, Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding, Peter Stokkebye Navy Flake and a couple of others. I have not been able to try all of them, however, to give Half and Half a 4 or 5 star, with such other great refined tobaccos would be disingenuous. It deserves a solid 3 star. It is a very decent all-day smoke, but tends toward tongue bite compared to some of the others. I do not have much experience, but it you are brand new to pipe smoking, you will not go wrong with Half and Half, just be sure to "sip" the pipe, not "chug" on it (which is always recommended). If you have yet to buy your first selection of tobacco, I would recommend Lane 1Q or Captain Black. I quite enjoyed both, putting them at a 4 star, reserving 5 star for the best of the best...yet to be discovered.

This tobacco exceeded my expectations. When I first opened the pouch, I found the aroma strangely similar to a raspberry breakfast bar. As a smoke, it packed and burned well, but on the first few puffs I did get a few bits in my mouth; I attribute this to the relatively small size of the flakes...it was almost like dried oatmeal. It tasted excellent; it's a blend I can see smoking throughout the day. I can see why it's been so popular for so long.

I remember the old Half and Half as being my fathers go to blend along with Grangers- I now appreciate it as a change from my VaPer choices. The burley is a bit rougher on the senses -the room aroma less than I remember but I will continue to use as a change of pace.

Very strong flavor, almost overwhelming when I get to it in my rotation because I prefer English blends. The tin note is beautiful though. Aromatic for sure.

It really does have a "crema" like taste and is almost like a Captain Black. But I bought a pouch and don't know how long it keeps the taste and aroma when you keep opening and closing it. I found out most tobaccos are like coffee and soon lose their taste and aroma after 3 days. Even the highly esteemed ones.

It has been almost a year since I started smoking a pipe. In all that time I haven't tried some of the original OTC blends. Since I was ordering some "premium" tin tobaccos I decided to add Prince Albert and Half and Half to the order. At first, Prince Albert "wowed" me and I thought it was clear what my next daily smoke would be. However, I kept waking up in the morning having a craving for Half and Half. The reason I had at first enjoyed Prince Albert more was because of its singular Burley flavor. I thought Half and Half's Virgina conflicted with the Burley. Safe to say, it just grew on me, and I ended up waiting each night just to taste that velvety finish that is so prominent too. Only thing left to try on is Granger and Sir Walter Raleigh, but, why try those two when I already found the next best thing in my pipe smoking career?

My last bowl of H&H was in 1968. My first new bowl was last week. It does now what it did then, providing a simple smoke reminiscent of simpler times.

H&H has been around a long time and is a consistently amazing smoke. I like it’s earthiness and flavor. Great all day smoke. Highly recommend this tobacco.

A truly simple and pleasant smoke that I keep coming back to. It smells decent, burns evenly, and is mild enough to smoke all day. There is nothing pretentious about it's flavor or presentation. When you just need a puff to ponder over, this is a fine OTC blend.

My absolutely preferred everyman's pipe tobacco. Burley and bright, just like the packaging says. It burns smoothly and evenly, with a smokey flavor and aroma that I could enjoy all day. Some people can't stand the stuff, I feel absolutely the opposite. A simple pleasure for a simple hobby.

I am a new pipe smoker, I have tried many many varieties. This is a cut above the rest according to my taste buds....I have learned that Fancy packaging and high price don't mean its any better...I will reorder Half & Half

Excellent tobacco. Burns evenly and smoothly. No bite whatsoever, the burley really shines through. The virginias even it all out with a little bit of bright sweetness and the toppings aren't overwhelming at all. For a budget leaf, this one is absolutely an easy classic.

It’s half sun cured burley and half flue cried bright Virgina, with casing and flavorings never duplicated. Each pouch tastes and smells the same as it did fifty years ago. The old men that rolled their own may have smoked Prince Albert or Velvet, but Half and Half has been “A cargo of contentment in the bowl of any pipe” for over a century. It’s a sweet and savory blend, you simply cannot buy except by buying the original. The best drugstore blend ever made.

This tobacco reminds me of my great grandfather. From the time I was a small boy until the time he passed, any time i would see him he always had his well worn pipe packed full of half-and-half, and a glass of fine whiskey on the rocks sitting in his oversized chair. The house always smelled of pipe tobacco and this is the blend that triggers memories. He ended up living till he was 113, and had a pipe in his mouth every day till his last, so I assume that it must be something in the half-and half. As a piper myself, I too can appreciate and enjoy this blend for what it is, a very nice and pleasant pipe tobacco. However at this stage of my life, it's not particularly something I usually would go for. But occasionally I fire this up to remember my great grandfather and ponder all the things I didnt know about him. That alone is priceless.

The tobacco is easy to light and stays lit. But the taste and smell stinks.

Mellow taste, rich aroma,

5 stars for what it is...a classic American pouch tobacco...unpretentious and inexpensive. I’m trying each of them and this is the second. Out of the cellophane, popped the well made seal, loaded a bowl, gravity feed with only light packing. It’s nicely moist straight from the pouch and easy to overpack. Pouch note is fruity? Lights easily, burns readily, has an agreeable room note according to my wife. First bowl was through an old favorite Jost Standard Billiard. No bite, agreeable flavor, plenty of smoke, nothing remarkable but very easy to like. Second bowl though a Mo. Meer. Twain, recently acquired and just shy of fully broken in...fresh Medico filter for my review. Seems like the perfect match. My usual smoke is a Dunhill with Latakia...this is quite a change but is an excellent change of pace. Both pipes relit well with no funky tastes or overly strong character. I’ll keep some on hand as it’s different and an easy smoke. It’s a slow burner that sips well...I suspect that it could bite if forced.

Sweet, with a light anise or licorice note in the taste, and a memorable kick. Strong and tasty. Unique. One of my earliest pipes smoking memories is smoking Mixture 79 out of a Savinelli second billiard beneath Knoxville's Gay St. Bridge on the Tennessee River. Nice to know some things never change. Fill up your bowl with goodness!

The thing I like most about H&H is it's clear versatility as a nifty mixer. Reminds me of Prince Albert but minus the exotic spice flavor that the Prince summons up. This gave me the notion to blend it in small amounts with my fruity aromatics that I treasure. I discovered a robust nicotine content in my pouch that packed a decent wallop, so I only have this one every now and then during the week.

Kinda hard to describe this blend. It has an interesting flavor unlike anything I’ve tried. Pherhaps spicy not like perique but incense Type of spice. Very well down smooth and flavorful. Will order again only in larger amounts than the pouch I just was not sure if I would enjoy this. I just finished a bowl of this as I wrote this in fact. 5star for me

I liked 1/2& 1/2 better

I used to smoke this tobacco back in the 60's, when I started smoking a pipe. It hasn't changed: the aroma on the pouch when I opened it, its texture, the burning qualities, the flavor and room aroma are still there. Excellent tobacco. And my wife likes the aroma, too!!!

Mixture 79 was the first pipe tobacco I ever tried back when I began smoking a pipe in the early 70's. It has always been a favorite as it takes me back to a memorable time and is simply enjoyable. I have heard it described as one of the best "drugstore" tobaccos to "tantamount to smoking a urinal cake". It just goes to show that we all have different tastes. Thanks so much for providing this wonderful tobacco! I'm sure I'll be placing another order in the very near future>

iT SMOKES WELL AND I LIKE THE AROMA.

Not bad at all for an inexpensive drug store staple. I was pleasantly surprised how much I have enjoyed some of the simple Burly ( in this case a blend) tobaccos. Decent flavor paired with mild, all day smokability make this a go to for a mid day break when I don't have time to sit down and read the flavors of a hard to find exotic tobacco.

I found this to be an ok tobacco. Lights easy and stays lit through the whole bowl. The flavor is interesting, a lot of different tastes. Just not for me

i opened my pouch of mixture #79 today and filled my pipe poured a cup of coffee and watched the snow geese migrating north it was a great smoke good cooffee and agreat morning to be outside i wiil purchase more mixture #79 at some point

I so desperately wanted to like this. The pouch note was pleasant. I opened the pouch and then taped it back up and let it sit on the counter for a few days before smoking it. The moisture was just right. Even when lit with a soft flame or match, and slowly sipped, this tobacco had no flavor (other than ash) that I could discern. I'm glad it was so cheap or I would have been upset about wasting money. Two stars for nostalgia alone.

both are good old time tobaccos i like the mixture79 a bit more than half and half just seems something is missing

I recently purchase and tried this misunderstood mixture and was pleasantly surprised.Pouch note to me is mostly wintergreen with a slight hint of vanilla I detected no anise or licorice as I was expecting and also am partial to.Stays lit well burns down to nice whitish light gray ash no dottle to speak of very pleasant room note.Will purchase again.

I had my first bowl of Mixture No. 79 yesterday. I have been wanting to try this for a bit because of all the reviews that were all over the place....bad to good. I usually prefer a English blend or a Carter Hall type burly. The pouch does say aromatic on it but I would not call it a true aromatic. More of a topping. I enjoyed it. To me it is clearly different than any other tobacco that I have tried. In a good way. The pouch note had the anise/licorice scent. I did not detect the vanilla but it was my first bowl. It was mild and the flavor was like floral and anise but not strong. This did pack well and did not have to much moisture. It lit well and stayed lit. A couple of relights. It burned to a nice grey ash with no goo. I smoked it in a cob. Being my first bowl I am sure my opinion will change a bit but it was enjoyable and will be going back for more. It was a nice change. A nice mild smoke with NO bite and I can be a puffer at times.

It is a very nice and mellow smoke with a nice aroma. I would consider this a daily smoke.

Good smoke for a nonaromatic

I am still new (less than 4 yrs.) in smoking a pipe. I am still trying different blends and brands. I may prefer a cherry or rum flavored tobacco on occasion, but I will always return to Half and Half for its overall taste, quality burn and call me sentimental aroma.

It's okay, wonder what it might mix well with. Matter of fact, I'd be interested in any successful home recipes, I'm new to the idea. Thanks. !

Another person taking a stroll down memory lane. Grandfathers brand of pipe tobacco. Great room note, and not too strong. Easy to stay lit, a bargain too. Will probably add some to every order.

Great stuff, I tried it buying some 'battle' pouches and not only did it win the battle, in won the war. Bought 10 or so different pouches and this was one of my favorites. The price makes it a bargain.

Its alright for a drug store brand. I like the nuttiness of the burley and the square cut.

I would not recommend using Half & Half to break in a pipe. I had been nicely breaking in a new briar for about a week. Smoked a bowl of this stuff. Noticed a strong apple - melting plastic smell and taste. Despite trying all kinds of blends in this pipe to try to drive away that stench, it still lingers in the pipe. Here it is New Year's Eve. As I write, I have loaded the pipe with my "big guns"--a 40 / 40 / 20 blend of Latakia and Perique and Virginia Red Ribbon--in a final desperate attempt to reseason the pipe and mask that foul and stubborn residue left by Half & Half. I really don't understand why today's Half & Half tastes this way. I should mention, in fairness, in all my 50 years of smoking, I never did try Half & Half till now. I see other posts from people who've been happily smoking the stuff for decades. I just can't believe this is the same Half & Half that the legends are made of. The people who've smoked it for decades--their taste buds must've adjusted to the changes over the years, and they just never noticed the change in top flavoring. In any case, please don't break in a new pipe with Half & Half.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this from the very first bowl. Although the pouch note was a distinct anise scent, it is far from a one-note aromatic. Once lit, the smoke suggests much more complex flavors: sweet Nag Champa incense, vanilla, and slight pops of refreshing floral notes. This is a very satisfying blend. It is interesting without being cloying or overbearing.

While mourning the loss of Frog Morton Across The Pond, and other Syrian blends to which I had become addicted, I decided to try something completely different. Read many fine reviews on Half & Half (hereafter "HH") , thought I'd give it a twirl. Found the stuff a nice-tasting, basic smoke, nothing fancy, even burning. As mentioned in an earlier review, HH does not smoke well if packed too tightly. Burns OK, a little trying to start, stays lit, but does better in a larger pipe. A fair amount of propylene glycol or whatever to maintain moisture, mild "gumminess" compared to premium brands. -1/2 star for that and -1/2 star for blander flavor. However, I keep a pouch around to vary my routine. Fine quality smoke. Tried blending my own HH from Lane bulk tobaccos, a resounding failure that tasted awful, burned like coal, destroying a nice Ropp cherrywood in the process. Will leave blending to the pros!!

This, to me, is the quintessential codger blend (and I mean that in a good way). Sweet, smoky, mild, this tobacco doesn't require a lot of puzzling out of flavors...no searching for grassy, hay-like notes with Half and Half, just good, old fashioned, no nonsense tobacco. I'm a burley fan (thanks to Matches860), and this blend has the perfect ratio of Burley/Virginia. You get that nutty Burley flavor with a nice sweet finish from the Virginia. I've smoked pretty much every OTC blend out there, and this one is by far my favorite. A lot of the old OTC blends have that chemical taste in the background, but I've never noticed that in this blend. I'd recommend this to any pipe smoker, new or experienced. Granted, I have more "premium" tobaccos in my daily rotation, and I do enjoy them, but there will always be room for a bowl of H&H in my life.

Just finished my very first bowl of Half and half, Very light and mellow mouth feel with a delightful nutty chocolate aroma the end of the bowl had more of a coffee bean taste that ended with light liquorish . Enjoyed it with a cup of pecan flavored coffee. I will definitely buy a tin next time. Great job Pipes and Cigars.

Very enjoyable smoke. I usually lean towards English blends but this is just a good ol stand by with no bite and great tin and room notes with a great taste. Don't pass it up just because of the cheaper price.

As a matter of fact I'm smoking Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic right now. It is everything I expected it to be, amd I am very pleased.

Read so many good things about this blend that I had to buy. Was struck by the anise/liquor smell, and not in a good way. Tried two bowls and almost threw the pouch away. Then I read a review that says to let it sun dry for a few days and the tobacco will mellow; will try that first, but it needs to come a long way to win me back.

I bought Mixture No. 79 primarily on based on Eric's staff pick. All I can say is thanks Eric! Indian food is my favorite ethnic food. At all of the Indian restaurants where I have eaten there is a small bowl of fennel seeds, some times coated with sugar, and a small spoon so you can scoop some out and chew them they have a wonderful licorice/anise flavor that's exactly what this tobacco reminds me of and I love it! The tobacco smokes well all the way down to the last flavorful puff. I can't say I tasted any of the other toppings except a little of the vanilla.I can understand why some folks don't like this blend if you don't like licorice you probably won't like No. 79.

Despite other reviews, I really was hoping for more from Mixture #79. There is an initial 'flowery' taste that that, while not overly unpleasant, is not something I would smoke regularly. Never been a big burley fan but I tried Half n Half for the first time recently. Taste obviously change because I really enjoy it as an everyday smoke. Not overly moist, balanced, pleasant room note.......Half n Half is a tobacco I can smoke regularly and not grow tired of. Great 'codger' tobacco.

I don't understand why so many have such a favorable review of mixture 79. It takes like laundry detergent to me. I honestly had high hopes for mixture 79 when I smelled the tobacco in the pouch. It smelled great. Then I packed it in my pipe and lit it was extremely let down. Yuck it was awful and tastes like soap

Pretty good standalone tobacco. It's not my favorite, but if it's all I had I'd smoke it all day.

It smokes fairly well, but the aroma reminds me of an old lady.

I have been smoking half and half for years and find it is the most satisfying. You make it easier to purchase at a good price.

After smoking #79 for the first time yesterday, I agree it does have the "soapy mouth" taste. It reminded me of an incense I burned in my early 20's when smoking another kind of plant. The incense aroma is great, but not so much the taste in the mouth. The smell from the pouch is very licorice.

I like this pipe tobacco. It's in my top 5 rotation. Makes for a pleasant break from the more aromatic tobaccos I smoke.

Good ole half and half

Surprisingly good Burley and Virginia blend. Had never tried it in the past, figured it was time to give it a chance. Smooth, toasty, and tasty, all in all a nice easy going blend. I would buy this again. I find myself drawn to English blends, but this American hits the right notes, at least for me.

Very good for what it is.Much better than it was back in the 90's.I bought a pouch while in Italy back in '98,and it smelled like grass clippings,and tasted harsh.What I have here is mostly burley,and smells like it in the pouch.Good for a change of pace.

I've been comparing all the OTC's, PA, SWR, HH, Velvet and CH, and I've found Half and Half to be the most enjoyable and flavorful, while still mild and no bite. Velvet and Carter Hall not as flavorful yet very mild. Excellent smokes but not very complex in flavor. Very straight forward and simple. Sir Walter and Prince Albert a bit stronger, more bite and more flavor. Half and Half is in the middle with a nice burley taste and subtle complex flavor that is very appealing. Definitely going to be a regular for me as a PC customer. Delivery is fast and tobacco always fresh.

Half and Half keeps tugging me back for another bowl. More and more I'm getting away from aromatics and all the big deal tobaccos. Half and Half is truly an all day smoke reminiscent of days gone by and simpler times. I revisit the days of my dad smoking HH in his wood shop and the times we shared there as a kid. It's a mild, bite free tobacco that doesn't leave a sore mouth or bad aftertaste like highly-flavored potpourri varieties. Nothing compares to a fresh bowl of Half and Half in my favorite pipe at the end of the day. A true classic pipe tobacco that's is the heart of what I love about pipe smoking!

Ive had carter hall, its pretty close to the same to me. Mild, easy to keep lit. Good taste. Prob buy again at some point.

I like Half & Half because it sort of clears your palette after a lot of heavier blends. I will always keep some around.

When I was a kid my uncle smoked this blend and I still remember its pleasant room note. So based on this nostalgic memory of Uncle Rocky (yes, he was an ex-pug and lived to 93) I decided to give 79 a try. Pleasing taste, not over powering and the room note I remember. May try it again.
