I plan to order a larger quantity next time because it is nothing having a glass of wine,of your preference and a tobacco in your home that not only smells great ,but also taste great as your with no bad after taste and no tongue bite that leaves your mouth raw. Lane Limited Burley is an excellent choice indeed every pipe smoker should at least try it once....I can guarantee you won't put that pipe down, and they won't regret it.

Burley without a bite.
I bought this to mix with lane rlp6. Most lane tobaccos have excessive amounts of vanilla and the burley tones down the vanilla. Not bad on it’s own but I prefer Virginia tobacco. Good for a break from the bite of Virginia.

I’ll take two slices
I am very new to pipe smoking, but adore this blend so far. It tastes amazing, for starts, with even a slight sitting it will dry to burn beautifully! I bought this to cake my first real pipe, and again, to reiterate- absolutely fell in love with this, immediately, mellow, sweet, aromatic and entirely enjoyable. I really like caking pipes now.

As a former tobacconist I
As a former tobacconist I have been using TK6 for years, my blend is TK6 mixed with BCA and a touch of B/L. It creates a rich, cherry vanilla blend with a touch of burley for a smooth not hot burn. The aroma please people around me and the quality is a light pleasant burn that does not burn ones tongue. The aroma of the mixture is exactly right for me and many of my former customers. Burleys have always had the aroma of oats, with a slow fixed burn and light taste.

The quintessential clean Burley taste.
Just great, light, clean tasting Burley. I love Butternut Burley, which is now only available as a blend your own. This is the clean taste of Butternut Burley with less vanilla. Smells like cocoa in the bag. I've only been smoking it straight, but I'm sure it mixes great with all kinds of blends.

I mix this with my bulk aromatics
Pretty good for me to mix with aromatics that are full-flavored. Moves aroma to sharing the middle seat of your smoke. But I prefer just a straight burley ribbon cut for the same purpose. I would buy this again.

Smooth and "gentle"
I've recently started smoking a pipe again and wanted to avoid the negatives I experienced in the past. It might be partly due to using a meerschaum pipe now - I understand can make for a smoother smoke - but this tobacco is doing what I hoped.

A very nice surprise
This was a nice surprise. New at all this, and bought just to see if I liked burley. The flavor was very nice, it took a light well and burned well with minimum relights, and a healthy cloud of smoke. This will be a regular for me.

A fine change of pace!
My regular tobacco is Lane RLP-6. While making an order for more, I needed to fill it out with something for the shipping discount, and decided to try Lane Burley Light without a Bite. I was pleasantly surprised. The color is a light reddish brown, the cut medium, compared to RLP-6 or Cap'n Black White. The burn is clean, and is a smooth smoke. Not particularly aromatic, but light in the mouth, with a slightly woody nose. A pleasant occasional change to my RLP-6.

I too was surprised by this blend. It was so close to my beloved but now missing Carter Hall. So close its my everyday smoke now. A sweet Burley. My first smoke of the day. They got this one right. Mild sweet simple blend. Hot cup of coffee and this on a lazy Saturday morning. Just bought more.

Scotty's Butternut Burley is Superb!
This Butternut Burley is the hands down winner in the recent Burley Brawl with Lane BLWB.
4 out of 5
LANE BLWB is long on smoothness and short on flavor
I have tried 3 of the Lane blends and all of them are excellent. 1Q, RLP, and BLWB are what I have purchased from P&C. This tobacco is almost tasteless. As such I think it may be a better blending tobacco to tame a stronger blend. I bought this with the Burley Brawl with Scotty's Butternut Burley which has more taste and equally no bite.
5 out of 5
A very satisfying smoke
I like the flavor of this tobacco. It is my favorite of the blends that I have tried: slightly sweet with a robust aroma of burley. It lights easily with a full head of smoke when sprinkled into the bowl and lightly packed, and tamped lightly as it burns down into the bowl. I store it in an airtight jar with 55 percent humidity.

Good tobacco. Pleasant aroma. Never overpowering. Easy smoke.
It just arrived this afternoon. I chose a fast shipping method. I had been out of pipe tobacco for some time. I chose this tobacco for the nicotine strength. I just smoked some in a small cob pipe. It was a very good smoke. There was some aroma but nothing too strong. This might be something I get in the future again. So far pleased with it.

Best Burley in Existence
Do yourselves a favor and mix some of this with Lane Vanilla Black Cavendish. I truly don't think there's a smoother smoke to be had. Not only is this the best tasting Burley I've ever had, but also the best smelling. Kind of buttery, a hint of vanilla. Prince Albert was my Burley of choice until I decided to try this. There's no going back now. No comparison.

Exceptional on it's own, Exalted with Salmon River
I thought I couldn't be surprised anymore by how incredible Scotty's blends are, I was wrong. It's not that one is better than another or one blend is the best. Each is so unique and so exceptionally enjoyable that I have a hard time believing it AS I'm experiencing it. This comes very very close to trout stream, about a hair or two away. Delicious flavor, burns cool if you dry it a bit (and smoke it separately, more on this in a bit), no tongue bite, wonderful "tin"/bag note. Though exceptional on its own, I highly highly recommend 50/50 mix with Salmon River. The room note isn't quite as fantastic as Trout Stream but at this point I really don't care. Out of all 8 pipes in my rotation this smoked the best out of my Peterson System pipe.

A nice, refined burley smoke.
In the general genre of SWR regular and Carter Hall, BLWB is a very good entry. With very little, if any chemical content, this is a pretty natural blend. Flavor is subtle (very lightly sweet--maybe vanilla or vanilla and rum-- but good. The stuff tastes good. Tobacco flavor dominates as it should. It really does not bite. The virtue of this blend, however, is its lack of sin. It is a very easy smoke.

Scotty's Butternut Burley
I bought some of this due to the reviews that I read. Then a friend remarked to me how much he enjoyed this blend. I have a very well stocked "cellar" mostly containing aromatic tobaccos which I prefer. After 3 or 4 bowls now in varying pipes both Briar and Corn Cob, I have a new tobacco to add to my favorites list. This is a quality product that provides a great room note, a great taste, and very easily could be an all day smoke. The Burley is wonderful, burns well, and provides maximum enjoyment. I have detected no bite, very little moisture, very little dottle. Being a Burley you do need to use a slow cadence when smoking. Leaves a wonderful aroma on your beard and shirt that makes you want to fill another bowl shortly after the last one. I have added a little Lane Vanilla Black Cavendish in one bowl......wow. Next I am going to add some Nording Labrador Hunter as I can just imagine how that would be enjoyable. I will be ordering a pound or so of the Butternut Burley when I get a few disposable bucks.

Sorry, not for me!
I'm 80 years old and been a Burley man for 65 of those years. I wanted to love this but was disappointed with it. I found it was not as bite-free as other reviewers. Also, rather sweet. Sorry, that's my honest opinion. I am a card carrying "old codger" and I'll stick with CH, SWR, etc. a tub of LLRR is supposed to get here today and I have high hopes for that one. Semper Fi Mke

Nuts...
I’m willing to believe the inconsistency here is more on my part than on Ol Scotty’s, but my last batch seemed more nutty. Maybe the bottom of the jar had kept longer and brought it out as it aged and dried? Still I’m happy I’ve got a plenty in stock on the shelf cuz this tobacco is a tasty easy smoke that tickles my Aromatic itch without gooping up my pipe or setting the dogs on my tongue.

No bite means no Bite great smoke
As a new 3 month pipe smoker former cig. smoker,This blend is a true NO bite with a filling smoke and aroma for beginners and former cigarette smokers.. I can smoke it nice and warm without that tongue bite at all. It is almost like a Prince Albert original but with more aroma that is very nice and mellow...I highly recommend Lane burley light without a bite to anyone especially newcomers to the world of pipe smoking...Quitting cigarettes is hard, but I have conquered that 40 yr. old habit with PC's bulk offers of Lane..I have tried many favorite brands like Capt black but to me they all had a lil bite, except for PA, So I looked into Lanes tobaccos and found some like this one I can smoke all day and inhale mildly from time to time with no sting or bite.... I give this blend 5 stars

Just received this in the mail today and have smoked a couple of bowls; it is really great. Simply Wonderful
I‘ve never given any tobacco such a high rating before, but this tobacco definitely deserves it. I‘m a Burley fan, and enjoy slightly aromatic tobaccos, and this blend of, I believe, 5 different Burleys, imparts a wonderful nutty flavor. It‘s mild, slightly moist, lights right off and dosen’t require but a couple od relights. There is zero tongue bite. I have several differential tobaccos on hand, but it seems like I tend to reach for this nearly all the time. My favorite pipe shape is a pot, and this tobacco smokes and tastes best in my Savenelli 316 KS. I belong to a pipe and cigar club and am the only dedicated pipe smoker, and while smoking a bowl of this stuff, it‘s not unusual for one or more cigar smokers to comliment the room note. Give it a try.

BL/WB
Have used this mixed with Lane BCA since the 1980s. It is a great combination mixed 3 BCA to 1 BL/WB, which is my current mixed. I have also mixed 1 to 1, which is also good. The best part is the aroma which almost everyone likes. I get compliments regularly.

All day.
This is my all day smoke. I burn 3 to 4 bowls of this a day, sometimes more on my days off. It's smoothe as silk with a nutty flavor. I gave a buddy some and he mixed it with some Lane Cavendish and he said it was even better that way. I smoke it all by itself and I haven't found anything that matches it. Highly recommended.

Well Named, Well Lit, Well Smoked!
When this arrived I was heading out to pick up a co-worker that needed a lift and hastily packed a bowl in a freshly waiting Savinelli Miele. Pipe and tobacco were made for one another! Smooth, honeyed and buttery, the "room" note filled the car as I happily motored across the north TX plains. My friend was very pleased with the aroma, commenting on it twice as we drove along to work. Smokes beautifully and I am sad to have ordered just four ounces. A larger order must go in after I finish the several pounds of various blends I have on hand including the four ounces of Scotty's Trout Stream I found just as good. If you are a fan of Lane 1Q, MacBaren Scottish and Plumcake, you'll surely like this blend.

Enjoyable
I'm not a fan of aromatics but once in a while I like to indulge. For the price this was offered I couldn't resist. I found it to have a mild slightly sweet taste with a nice bag note and pleasing room note. I like it best as my first pipe of the day and perhaps a bowlful or two during the course of the day. It will never replace my regular smoke which is Granger nor will it out rank my fondness of English blends. Bottomline is it is an enjoyable smoke when I crave something different.

Great Note
I’m not a super experienced pipe smoker, but over the past seven years I have tried several different blends. This one is a family favorite because of the room note, and it has almost no tongue bite. It WAS my favorite, until I tried the Appalachian a few weeks ago. You can’t go wrong with this one, though.

My apologies
I need to change my review as I think that the smell and taste of what smells like ammonia was the brand new pipe I just bought and not the tobacco itself. Tried it in an older pipe and was very pleased.

Scotty's Butternut Burley
I've been a pipe smoker for many years and prefer milder, sweeter tobacco. Butternut Burley is consistently the best I've ever smoked. One can't go wrong with it. It is a truly enjoyable smoke.

Can’t ask for much more.
Buttery and smooth, wasn’t sure what that meant until I lit up the first bowl. A light sweetness shows itself amongst a lightly earthy and nutty front end. No bite and an easy after-note. This is a perfect smoke any time of day and will definitely stay in my rotation.

This tobacco is GREAT! With no tongue bite, lots of flavor and aroma, Scotty's "Butternut Burley" provides a truly COMFORTING smoke; like being cradled in a warm blanket on a cold day. And, there is No Fussing or Fiddling Around with this blend; your pipe will stay lit and cool right down to the bottom of the bowl! This is Definitely one to light up and enjoy. I highly recommend it.

Excellent Without The Bite!
I recently purchased the Lane Limited Light Without A Bite choice. It is truly a great smoke, gentle and full of flavor at the same time. I would highly recommend it highly!

I consider this one of the two best tobacco blends. Great in a cob.

Good stuff for sure
I love butternut Burley it's my favorite. I have a few different blends. Scotty's is a good one, smooth smoke, not to wet, good tin note, room note, and taste.

Outstanding Products and Service
Outstanding blend...bought a pound and liked it so much that I bought another pound. All of Scotty's blends and Russ's blends are cellar worthy. Can't say enough about P&C's customer service...always great and products are first rate. Thanks for making this hobby/way-of-life a lot of fun.

Nice surprise - mellow, smooth, bekoning slight toasty sugar sweetness, with light Burley nuttiness. Kills Ready Rubbed IMO.
[Tin/bag - Nice dark sugary aroma, then it gets a little allspice or some toasty spice in there. A certain something in there that I do not like for it being a little sickening sweetness - gag reflex way down in belly just a tad. Very fluffy, small ribbon cut in with pretty much cube cut, gravity feeds into a bowl with ease. Moisture ready to smoke.] Pleasant surprise, looked like it would be an Edgeworth Ready Rubbed simple cigarette/slight nut repeat - it was not. Mellow, smooth, beckoning slight toasty sugar sweetness, with light Burley nuttiness. Beats Ready Rubbed hands down for me - by a long shot. Not going to get anything complex here, it is pretty straight forward, mellow, and simple from start to finis, with a little mild aromaticness in there that appears in many of Lane Limited's aromatics. It's like there is a veeery slight touch of 1-Q, or like you had left a bag of 1-Q sitting inside another bag of plain Burley for a day or two and some of 1-Q flavor came through the baggy, so, very light. A quite nice, mild, satisfyingly simple, mellow, smoke with consistent flavor to the end. Could be useful to tone down or add some plumage into a blend too. Smooth, and lives up to it's name with no bite, bowl maintenance, or relights needed down to fine ash. Cool burning without much heat or moisture in the bowl. ◄7/10✠Skulls►

SCOTTY'S BUTTERNUT BURLEY A GREAT AROMATIC
LIGHTS WELL BURNS LONGS AND HAS A VERY PLEASANT ROOM NOT AND NO TOUNG BITE. FIVE OUT OF FIVE RATING
5 out of 5
I first tried it in
I first tried it in a corn cob pipe and it was okay. I then tried it in a 12" clay pipe and it was outstanding! My wife loved the room note. There was zero tongue bite and because the smoke was cool I could get the full pleasure of the taste.

Nice for sweetening the room
Use it to sweeten the room but it’s not much of a smoke

This stuff is great!
I don’t normally smoke aromatics, as they tend to be sugar bombs that smell good and taste bad. This is another story altogether. Great pouch aroma that translates ever so slightly to the bowl. Nice nutty burley that burns great, tastes great, and leaves little goop behind. This is hands down my favorite aro, and one of only two that I smoke regularly.

Very Solid "OTC" Style Blend!
These notes are my first impressions of BLWB. I’ve only had a few bowls of this, so far. I’m using it to break in my brand new Gardesana Bianca Lovat pipe (purchased at P&C, of course! I think this Lovat is going to be a good smoker). I’ve also had a large bowl in a meershaum. I suspect I’ll get to like it more over time. I agree with some of the other reviewers that there is nothing to get too excited about with this blend. But I like it. I find it to be very similar to Carter Hall, Prince Albert, Granger and the like, and I suppose that is Lane’s intention. Seems they succeeded very well. There is plenty of nuttiness here, it smokes smoothly, cooly and really doesn’t bite. The topping isn’t chocolatey. Just a gentle sweetness that is very pleasant. This blend packs easily, burns well and leaves no gunk and little moisture. Minimum re-lights. There may be some humectant applied, but if so, it seems minimal to me. BLWB does what it is supposed to do, and it does it very well. It is mild and unobtrusive, but still tasty. If you like mild, OTC, “old codger” burley blends, you can’t go wrong with BLWB. The price point is pretty good, too. It is really very decent. By the way, kudos again to P&C for incredible service! Cheers!

Absolutely fantastic!

Good Stuff
Good but not exciting when smoked on its own. Flavor runs the spectrum from A to B. However, it is a very agreeable smoke when reading or otherwise occupied when you don’t want anything complex. Where BLWB really shines is as an addition to a blend that needs to be tamed down or “diluted “ in flavor. I like to add it to certain aromatics that, while tasty, tend to be a little too sweet or syrupy. Adding BLWB can turn an overpowering blend into something quite nice, or at least smokable. It can also do wonders to help a wet blend smoke dry. I always have some on hand because it is so useful for blending.

Amazingly smooth tobacco
I've had this before, great tobacco with no tongue bite and smokes really smooth, but to me lacks nicotine. I give it 5 stars because I like to blend it with my other stronger tobaccos like G&H dark flake unscented for the absolute best smoke in the world!

Not bad, but not great.
Not bad, but certainly not great either. Perhaps it was all the great reviews that gave me a false expectation. It's quality tobacco, and it's true there is no bite. That said there is not much flavor either. It is very close to 1q and I don't find much flavor in that either.
4 out of 5
A great little tobacco!!
I bought an ounce of this and an ounce of Lane BCA and combined them 1:1. Made a nice little mild smoke with a touch of sweetness and a nutty base. Not a master blend by any stretch, but I do like to smoke it when I'm not exactly in the mood for 1Q. More body but a little less flavor than 1Q. Honestly though, it's a great blend and BLWAB is still great on it's own. I'd recommend it absolutely for a beginner as it's very easy to pack, light, and smoke. 4/5.

Ole Nutter Butter
Butternut Burley, I really love this blend a lot. Now. But it didn't start out that way. Admittedly, the first 2 times I smoked it (in 2 different well-seasoned pipes), I sensed it to be a bland unremarkable burley. But despite my initial disappointment, I had high hopes for this tobacco and was determined to give it all full-measure of fair trial. Call it heresy, lunacy or just plain inexplicable phenomenon, but much to my delight, the second time I smoked it in the very same 2 pipes as before, I got all the full buttery and nutty flavors I was lusting after. And evidently for me, that was no fluke. For any other pipe I own, I have to smoke this blend at least twice in it to get the proper flavor out of it. Go figure. All that oddity aside, I honestly do get nice buttery and nutty flavors washing over my tongue as I had hoped to get from it. And I occasionally detect a thin line of vanilla and honey on the side. And there is no tongue bite from it, and it burns down cleanly to a fine grey ash. The bag aroma is also buttery and nutty to my sniffer, and the room note is pleasant and mild. I doubt anyone who doesn't hate tobacco would ever complain of it. My wife likes it, and she's picky when it comes to tobacco aroma. So now I've settled-in to regularly rotating Butternut Burley with two of the Ole Shenandoah blends, Barrel No. 76 and Bootlegged. These have now become my Fave Three, with other old faves now in the less-frequent occasional opt-in lineup. So now I sometimes jokingly call it "Ole Nutter Butter". Yeah... I like those cookies too.

Excellent Tobacco
I really like this. I'm a fan of burley tobacco and this is very good. Opening the package and it reminded me of when my mother would make popcorn balls, the smell of butter and vanilla was wonderful. Upon lighting a bowl again the taste of warm vanilla and butter. This is a mild tobacco with no bite and burned to the bottom of the bowl. Very good and will order more.

Good to start out with.
This was my first pipe tobacco. I learned how to sip with this tobacco. The nougat smell is amazing. Upon lighting, I found out it is just pipe tobacco. The flavor is nothing special, but it is not bad. It does not bite if you smoke it right. Overall it's a good starter tobacco, and I will always keep some on hand.

There are not enough adjectives in the English language to describe how perfect this blend is! I spoke this like a tobacco fiend. I could smoke 4 ounces of this stuff a day if l could and would enjoy every bowl as much if not more than the previous one. The only reason l give this blend five stars (5*s) is because they have not included a choice for 6,7,8, or MORE! Thank You

Not a Fan of Aromatics
I'm not a fan of aromatics but occasionally like to indulge so I bought an ounce of this just to try it out. The bag note was a pleasant cross between butterscotch and maple. The tobacco was not overly moist and not as sticky as most aromatics that I've smoked. Sweet, not overpowering and no bite. Burns well. However, by the end of the ounce I pretty much had my fill of aromatics and the blend became a bit tiring.

Butternut breakfast burley
A great tobacco for the ride to work. Very basic, yet rich in flavor. Burley and coffee go well together, and the light topping is subtle yet present, adding to the flavor profile. I really enjoy this tobacco over many OTC burleys. I don't notice any "cheap" or chemical tastes or flavors. I could smoke this every morning.

Some love sushi, some don't.
I am glad I didn't write this review after my first try at this Burley. At first, I was put off and thought it was too mild, and left me with a slight chemical taste/feel in my mouth. However, now after my third bowlful I can now that I like it. I don't love it and still feel there is a bit of that chemical feeling present. All in all I feel that is surely a nice mild smoke and can see how so many people like it. Remember, we all taste things differently. Some love sushi, some hate it.

Discovery of a historical pipe tobacco blend.
During my college days in the 60's, I smoked an Edward's Tobacco blend named "Butternut". This blend was a special one created by the Edward's shop in Atlanta, Ga. It has long ago been discontinued. Scotty's Butternut Burley is the best match that I have found. Very pleasing aroma, mild, and a pleasant room note. A welcomed discovery for my tobacco of choice, this is a quality smoking blend that I highly recommend.

Scotty's Butternut Burley
First time I was given a sample of SBB I loved it. I bought a pound and a half because it's an everyday smoke. It's moist out of the bag so I take out a bowlful and let it dry for about a half hour to hour. It packs easily and lights easily as well. I've only had to give it a 2nd light only the first couple times I smoked it b/c it was new to me. Ever since, it's a one match/bowl deal. It vaguely reminds me of Capt Black but I think SBB is far better in that it as much more depth and complexity. The burly is as expected: a nutty, slightly sweet, and leather'ish component. There is no "forward" in this blend to me though ... neither the burley or the cav overpower the other. It's balanced. It starts with that burley but there is already a good cav flavor with it's smooth caramel, buttery, and even hints (to me) of jasmine. Try some. It's awesome.

Don't fear this Butternut
I bought a sample of this a few months back and it was everything the reviews had claimed it to be and maybe even more. They say no tongue bite and it's true... you can puff like a dragon and it's always as smooth as can be. I added 1/3 Latakia to this and it turned into something dreams are made of. I plan on getting a pound of this for blending.

OK so....
I only bought a few ounces to try after a pal & more experienced pipe smoker suggested I give some Burley a go , as I tend to enjoy Cavendish & aromatic blends most often,,so yeah it's ok for just plain smoking ,,kind of like a Camel in a bowl...but I wound up mixing up most of it in with some of the Perique and Latika ,Cavendish to make a blend of my own and it was good for mellowing out some of the powerful leaf in that mix ,I personally won't go overboard in a purchase of this except for the mixing up of a bag of my own picks,,smokes clean and down to ash if that matters to anyone ,good quality overall.

When I received the package of Scotty's Butternut Blend I was skeptial because I didn't get the aroma from the bag I expected. However after lighting up and a few puffs, I was delightfully pleased, the longer I smoke the better it got! This stuff is great! It burns evenly, doesn't bite your tounge, and it is very satisfying. Has a pleasing room note, which is very important these days...... I'll be ordering more of this blend for sure and certain.

Burley Light Without Bite
The name says it all. Excellant flavor and aroma. Reminds me of a tobacco I smoked for years before it was discontinued- Paul Bunyan Biteless Burley.

A delightfully uncomplicated smoke
I had such a great experience with Trout Stream that I decided to try another Scotty's blend. Butternut Burley is the one I selected as a follow up. This is a wonderful aromatic that has a warm, comfortable room note. Tastes great because the topping doesn't mask the flavors of the underlying tobacco components. Burns great, easy to light and no tongue bite. If you are a beginning your journey with the pipe, Scotty's blends would be a great place to start...this one in particular. And if you've been around a while, there's a great deal here to appreciate from time to time. Try it out and post a review to share your opinion.

BLWB
BLWB is a very must have. It is very lightly cased with 1Q favoring. It could almost pass as non aromatic. It has perfect mechanics, packs and smokes easily and never bites. Smokes cool and flavorful with an uncomplicated nutty flavor. This would be a great tobacco for a beginner.

Scotty's Butternut Burley is a Hoe Run
Very smooth with no bite. Nothing needs to be added to this blend. Very nice tobacco taste and great room note. Butternut Burley doesn't leave any ghost flavors in you pipe. I'll be getting more of this when my supply runs out.

Jon Patterson. Recovering cigarette addict.
Found it both satisfying and far smoother than I expected. As nice at the bottom of the bowl as when I first light up. Best of all, I can smoke it in the house. No more trips outside in foul weather.

Scottie's Butternut Burley
I have been a pipe smoker for about 45 yrs and chain smoke my pipes. I have been smoking BB for about 10 yrs now. BB is the only tobacco I have found that I can smoke all day with little or no bite. I really like it.

Not quite but almost
You're absolutely right, this is the mildest pipe tobacco you have sold. The flavor and aroma are a bit on the mild side, and I've had one tobacco which had all the flavor, aroma, and mildness -- and the company went out of business 2 years ago. So the search for the perfect (available) tobacco continues, but this is nice stuff.
