Nice switch from Black
This is second to Black for me because I just discovered it. It's a nice change up with a nice sweet note and burns to a fine ash with no dottle. Beware tongue bite with extended use; 10+ pipes a day

Good smoke
Nice pouch smell, not too heavy, just a little wet,but a few minutes of dry time before packing pipe was just fine,s couple of delights at the start but nice and cool till the end.I will order more.

Delightful aromatic with 50% black cavendish, mild, no bite.
The black cavendish is prominent here, about 50% of the mix, with the rest being 25% burley and 25% virginia. This gives it a sweet mellow flavor. Delightful aroma off the pouch/bag, just right moisture level, mild-very mild strength, no bite (but I smoke my pipe slowly with plenty of relights). This can be an all day smoke. Definitely will buy again and will be a regular CB buy for me. Having said that, one star off for leaving a goopy mess in the bowl, as with all CB tobaccos due to the fructose casings they use, but I have to say, not as much as CB White.

Captain Black never disappoints
Captain Black had always been an economical favorite. It's not expensive, had great taste and a wonderful room note and plenty of variety such as the Captain Black Copper.

CB Copper is my gold standard
I've tried all the Captain Blacks except grape. Big fan of Lane Limited. I'm an aro guy and smoke inside the house deliberately because i enjoy the lingering scent maybe more than any other aspects. This CB Copper is easily the best of the bunch! Best room aroma, super smooth with good taste and zero bite, stays lit easily, burns clean down to the end. So far this is #1 favorite in my rotation. CB Copper brings me magical elation!

The title describes my estimate of this tobacco. Above average but not outstanding smoke.

Captain Black Copper
It is a nice aromatic blend, but personally I really couldn't distinguish it from regular Captain Black.

Fruit Cake, Anyone?
My husband liked this one off the bat, but surprisingly it had to grow on me. Now I love it. Reminds me of a well aged Christmas fruit cake. To me, that's not a bad thing, because I luuuve me some fruit cake. Repurchased already.

I've always been curious and the ability to get it by the ounce is a wonderful option. Was not disappointed. It is smooth but flavorful

A pleasant surprise
Based on all the reviews, I bought an .oz of this to try. I’m sure glad I did, I’ve been pleasantly surprised. I’m an aromatic guy, the heavier cased the tobacco is, the better. My favorite is Sutliff’s Molto Dolce with Creme Brûlée as a close second. I’ve been trying to fill that number 3 slot for a while and Captain Black Copper may do the trick. It’s not as sweet as I prefer but it’s definitely sweet enough to keep me interested. I’ve enjoyed smoking this tobacco, which is pretty important. I mean, if you don’t enjoy it, you’re not going to go back to it. It’s a very mellow tobacco, and like other reviewers have stated, no tongue bite that I’ve experienced. I guess my only regret is that I only bought an .oz ....

Hype or good tobacco?
CB is the cheapest yet widely consumed tobacco. CB White is a good one. BC copper I can't tell. It seemed to be bolder in aromas but no tobacco taste. It is pleasant though and can be a good change once in a while!

CB Dark + Caramel!
Seems to me like CB Dark with the addition of some caramel. Still the nice big puffs of smoke, lovely odor and a not bad flavour - for what you can get from an aro...

Smokeable
Smokeable but not as smooth as 1Q or Molto Dolce

Candy in a pipe?
I bought some of this for my son and he loves it. He says it's like smoking candy.

Captain Black Copper Bulk
CB Copper is a mild, bite-free, & great flavor aromatic (Nice Rm note) tobacco. I smoked pipes 40 years & this a gamble that is now in my top 5 rotation. It has rich burley, sweeten black cav, & a bit of bright lemon VA. Whispers of vanilla thru out, that mellow sweetness, & nice tobacco/flavor taste to the very end. As long as you sip it stays cool enough you don't have to sit your pipe down (a sign of good tobacco). It burned down to gray ash with a pinhead plug (shows just about perfect moisture). I was never a big fan of CB but copper a keeper. I now ordered CB Royal & Dark.

A perfect all day smoker
If you’d like a good OTC that’s a great all day smoker then this would be a great choice. Smooth and mild with vanilla and caramel casing, and a great aro for someone interested in the seeing more of the Captain Black catalog.

Gets Better With Age
A great smoke. It does have a harshness in the mouth after smoking a few times, but it goes away after a few days, as does the aroma, slightly. I don't know if it has to do with opening and closing the bag or jar? To be truthful, they all get less aromatic. But CBC then becomes a smooth GREAT smoke with more taste and "tobacco" hits then any I have smoked so far with the classic CB aroma I remember decades ago. It seems to get better the more you let it age. If I recall, it is slightly less aromatic then Captain Black Gold and smokes slightly hot, but not overly so. 4.5 Star Rating.

I'm sure some people would like this tobacco, I just didn't. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great, either.

Captain Black Copper
Overall agood tobacco, good moisture for aero, packs well burns clean to ash, it does have a peculiar taste that I am not fornd of, will finish what I recieved, but will not reorder this tobacco again, however service and price were both top notch.

Great Blender and no tongue bite.
Smoked out of three pipes, cob, briar & pear. Smokes best in cob & pear, but does not smoke bad in a briar, just don't smoke more than one bowl without cleaning and letting pipe cool. False light is amazing flavors, but flavors fade as you smoke. Did not smoke down to dottle for me, but there was little or no tongue bite so I gave Copper a 4 out of 5. I do enjoy this mild tobacco alone for a change of pace, but as a mixer with other tobaccos it's top notch. Mixed in about 10% Tsuge Gunjin and that to my surprize increased the sweetness and brought out more of the flavors and also increased the burn ability of the tobacco with no relights. I gave Copper 4 out of five, but when used as a blender with other tobaccos such as virginia & or orientals I have to give it a 5.

My favorite Captain Black Blend.
It seems to burn a bit cooler than Captain Black Regular, and certainly, it does not bite like Cherry Captain Black. This is my favorite Captain Black blend. If you like Captain Black, Lane 1Q, or Sutliff 1M then you will probably like Captain Black Copper as well.

Try another
I simply didn't care for it. I used to smoke cigars and Copper burned my mouth a little much for my taste.

nice mild smoke
I tried Captain Black Copper because P&C had it on a special sale. I am a big fan of other Captain blends but had never tried the Copper. Very pleased with it after trying it a number of times. It is a nice, mild smoke and has a very nice aroma. I don't know if it will sway me away from the original Captain's blend, and the Cherry, but it might.

Customer Testimonials
Captain Black Copper is altogether pleasing to senses of sight, smell, touch, and taste. Upon opening the tin, the excellent quality of the tobaccos is obvious. The aroma in the tin is that of liquor, vanilla, and something else that reminds me of holiday confections such as pumpkin bread. Upon lighting, the taste is clean and carries over much from the tin aroma. The burleys provide very mild chocolate undertones and the taste reminds me of good quality black tea. Sweetness is provided by the bright Virginia. The room note is pleasant, the tobacco burns well, and keeping it lit throughout the bowl doesn't demand a great deal of attention. "Copper" produces no goopy dottle. This is my favorite of the Captain Black series. I would recommend it to any aromatic lover who desires a more natural smoke.

Hadn't smoked any CB blends in years. I ordered a pouch of this and will be ordering more. Wonderful pouch and room aroma! A mild bite free smoke.
JK of San Bernardino, CA
This blend is everything it promises to be. This may become my daily bread and butter smoke. The room note is excellent and the flavor is great. Smoked a bowl fresh out of the pouch and it was great from the start.
MC of Bella Vista, AR
CB Copper is a keeper. I prefer Carter Hall to the CB blends, but Copper is the exception. Smokes good, flavors stay mostly though out the bowl. Room note is good. Doesn't wet the bowl as bad like the other CB blends. I didn't notice the chemical taste as I do with the other CBs, that's one of the reasons I don't smoke them. I might have to keep some of this one around for a change of pace. I have tried all the CBs and this one is the best of the lot.
JR of Hydro, OK
I've not been a Captain Black fan. I ordered a pouch of Copper and was greeted by a very nice aroma, smoked some in a MM and right off the git go I was likein it! Good tobacco flavor which many aro's don't have and it has the room note an aro should have. Where's a Copper when you need one? In yer pipe mate!
JG of Peoria, AZ
I really enjoyed this smoke, smooth with no bite. I must say, this is my second favorite (close first) CB blend. Definitely going to buy more!
GM of Hemet, CA
I've been smoking Capt. Black for close to 50 years and ive been mixing burly in it at a rate of 60-40 now I don't have to. Copper is the best I've tried in many years and as soon as I smoke my remaining Capt Black white I'll be buying Copper for sure.
DC of lowell, MA
The description of this blend on this page mirrored my pleasure in smoking CB Copper. Tasty smoke from top of the bowl to the medium to strong finish. And a room note sure to please is always a plus!
JM of Romulus, MI
Capt Black Copper is very different than any other Capt Black blends. Much more tobacco flavor which is good. Room aroma was good as well as taste a nice change from some of the more heavily flavored blends.
EB of Malta, NY
IMHO, this may be the best offering from Captain Black to date. Really mellow, delicious without any cloying sweetness, NEVER a gurgle, not a trace of bite. An outstanding OTC blend!
AS of Wellfleet, MA
Great flavor.Great room note. No tongue bite. Wife approved. Enough said.
AR of Mission Viejo, CA
I found out about this new Captain Black in the latest P&C catalog. Being a CB fan (of most of their blends) I had to order this one. It has a good aroma and taste with no bite. The best way I can describe this blend is it falls somewhere between Lane LL-7 and Sutliff Metropolitain. Its very similar to both. Well, the Captain has brought us another winner. I think I'm going to keep this one in my regular rotation. If you are an aromatic fan give this one a try!
BW of Pomona, CA
Just opened and smoked the new Captain Black Copper. Amazing smoke. Cool on the tongue, great aroma and taste, seems to burn cool, stays lit well. Wife loves this one. The nutty Burley, Black Cavendish, and Sweet Virginia makes an awesome mix. This could my new Favorite.
KB of Tulsa, OK
This stuff is unlike any other captain blend I've had. You can actually taste the bright Virginia. It is a very good smoke of you're looking for a medium strength aromatic. I will certainly be buying more.
