This is the tobacco I have been waiting to find. Fortunately it is from my favorite brand, Captain Black. This is a nice smooth smoke with a pleasant light taste and aroma and no bite. I have used this to cut Captain Black Dark (I call it my Dark Copper) and Captain Black Cherry. The result is, that I can take away most of the bite without affecting the taste or aroma of the Dark or Cherry. I imagine this would give the same result with any tobacco you mix it with. In my honest opinion, by itself or mixed with other tobacco, this is a great product that I would recommend.

Caramel note?
Excellent! No bite, and a sweet note to me it's like a caramel taste. I usually smoke whisky flavors, may be a good mixer?

Surprised
Not really a pouch smoker, but I was pleasantly surprised by this. A lot of nice flavors going on that blended well together and made for a quite enjoyable smoking experience.

Copper is good stuff.....
Good stuff, nice room note, like the taste, not overpowering, no bite. I have more expensive tobacco's, but this is a nice all day smoke for an aromatic. My favorite of the Captain Black line, I liked it so well I ordered some in bulk. Give it a try.

One of the best of the pouches
With all respect to the higher echelon of tins and blends, Captain Black products are a worthy substitute. Copper is fairly recent and second only to Dark, in my mind, as best. Great as the constant brand for friends.

Captain Black Copper
I have been a fan of the various Captain Black pouch tobaccos. Copper is a nice mellow, slightly sweet but not as sweet as the other more predominate Black Cavendish blends (CB Original, Royal and Dark). Copper is lighter and nice way to mix things up when you need a break from your regular smoke.

This newbie approves!
I'm new to the pipe smoking world, and I've only tried four or five different tobaccos. I'm hardly an expert, but I've gotta say: out of all the ones I've tried, this is easily my favorite. I could smoke it all day!

My new best friend from Captain Black
Captain Black has been my "Go-To" for over 40 years and this has got to be their best blend ever ! My new best friend from CB !

Very Smooth.
This is the first time I've tried any CB products and I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. It is indeed very smooth. No bite, lights well, smokes evenly. I didn't notice any "taste", but it's a very enjoyable smoke. I'll be trying more from the famous Captain Black.

The New Flagship Of The Captain's Fleet
My favourite of the Captain Black line that I have tried. In fact, the only one I liked. There is a malty caramel flavour under it all that really satisfies. Nice, affordable all-day blend.

Intriguing Room Note, no bite.
If there is Captain Black variety that could replace Cherry Captain Black as my all-time favorite it is Copper Captain Black. It is of the same great quality as Captain Black has always been. There is no bite with the Copper and the room note is intriguing. I hope this does not disappear from the Captain Black lineup; it would be a tragedy.

Mellow and nutty; all-day smoke
I have to be honest, I have smoked a few Captain Black variants, and have not been overly impressed. I bought a pouch of CB Copper blindly, because I got excited from some of the reviews that I read here on P&C. I am highly impressed with the balanced flavors of smooth burley, and sweet cavendish; I enjoy this blend out of my briars as well as my meerschaums. It is sweet but not too sweet, it is nutty but not over-the-top. It is the mildest aromatic blend that I currently have, and I plan on hoarding it before it becomes unavailable. I suggest you get a pouch just to try. I can't imagine it will disappoint anyone.

It's okay
I usually smoke Captain Black regular sometimes dark. I try other brands and flavors and for me personally, CB regular suits my pallet. Of course with all reviews personal preference is a deciding factor. I have two pipes a briarwood and a cob. To give the tobacco a change to change the flavor of the bowl I smoked two bowls in each pipe, then I began to draw my conclusions. The cooper seemed to have a lingering after taste that was more pronounced from my briarwood pipe than my cob. I wasn't real fond of the after taste, so I ended up using my cob to finish the pouch. My wife is asthmatic, I rarely smoke at home, if I do I will go outside, so therefore cannot speak to room note. In my car driving to work with my drivers window partially down, I am not keen on the "car note." I didn't have any issue's with tongue bite with either pipe. This is just one mans opinion.

My new favorite everday smoke!
I think I may have found my daily go-to with this Capt Black blend. I have tried almost every Capt black blend except for round taste and their premium tins. And Cooper now sits at the #1 spot for me. It has a slight sweet hint combined with a great nutty taste which from what I understand comes from the burley. And as others have said this blend burns pretty cool with lots of billowing smoke. The room note is very pleasant as well. When I first tried Capt Black Gold I thought it had a slight nutty taste that was pleasant but Copper blows it out of the water and I like Gold, but to me Gold while pleasant just always seemed to lack more flavor but Copper delivers in this area. Now don't expect big bold flavor with this but you can expect enough flavor to keep you interested throughout your smoke. This to me is definitely a good all day/everyday smoke. And you don't get that chemically taste that White, Royal, and cherry leave. I do like White and Royal however they smell much better than they taste, the taste being very mild and almost flavorless at times. I also enjoy Capt Black Dark but I believe you can get other Black Cavendish blends much cheaper that are just as good. So bottom line is if you haven't tried Copper yet and your either a aromatic smoker or not give this one a try I think you might be pleasantly surprised. I will be buying a 12oz tin of this in the very near future. Great job Capt Black this is a great blend!

Another Great Blend From Captain Black
I received the Captain Black Sampler and was pleased with all the blends. Unfortunately Captain Black Copper was not part of the sampler so I also ordered Copper separately as well as Captain Black Grape to complete their line - and was perfectly satisfied with each blend, and would gladly order them again once I smoked up the batch. (Yes I even enjoyed the Grape)Each flavor is somewhat unique while retaining that unmistakably Captain Black smoking experience. Copper is a great smoke, excellent flavor, no tongue bite, yet does have a tendency to dry out the mouth after the bowl. Which is why I always have a beverage on hand to keep the mouth moist more so with Captain Black than the other aromatics I smoke. But that having been said I'm still giving it a five star rating and would highly recommend it to an aromatic smoker. Dark, Original, and Gold are my favorites, but the more I smoke the Copper it's slowly working it's way up the list.

A nice, all day smoke.
I've never smoked Captain Black before. I was led to believe that it wasn't "quality tobacco." This belief came from other, more experienced pipe smokers. The idea is that since one can only seem to find it a drug stores and never at tobacconists (at least where I live), it mustn't be very good. This belief is strengthed by the fact that most reviewers don't rate the blends very well. But... Recently, I stumbled upon an ad for Captian Black and, for the first time, I really looked at the different offerings. After reading mostly favorable reviews, I ordered a pouch of Copper. When my parcel arrived, I waited until the weekend before trying it out. The waft of scent I get from opening the pouch is chocolate or cocoa--not the sweetness of a milk chocolate candy bar, but the deep semi-sweet scent of a dark chocolate. Which surprised me. There's also a depth to it; it seems very well rounded. The tobaccos in the pouch look great--mostly dark with some bright, golden leaf blended in. The first time I smoked it, I used a late 1960's Savinelli Punto Oro 9004 bent Dublin sterling silver army mount that a friend had given me. Copper packed very easily and lighted without any issues. The taste of the tobacco was just as pleasant as it smelled! It wasn't overly sweet, mind you, just that little semi-sweetness I mentioned above. This lasted the entire bowl. No matter how hard or fast one puffed (I was working outside at the time), there was not tongue bite of any kind. Copper finished off with a fine, powdery, white ash. Also, there wasn't that dreaded scalded tongue when I brushed my teeth that night or the next morning! Since that initial smoke, I've smoked it several more times and keep it with me. It's just such a pleasant, all-day, smoke. I highly recommend it.

Similar to Captain Black Regular
I was smoking the Regular (White) for a month on my corn cob before I tried the Copper and at first I thought that I had put the Regular in it. Now I see what the fuss is all about, this thing is very similar to CB Regular. From the aroma on opening the pouch, the way it burns (not too hot and no bite if you don't puff too hard), the room note, even down to the "sludge" it leaves behind (no fine ashes here, thank you very much). So if you're a fan of CB Regular, you'll enjoy this one.

Good Stuff from The Captain
Great tobacco; did not expect it to be as good as it was. The first time I smoked it in my Peterson Darwin and it smoked too hot and gave me tongue bite. The second time I smoked it in my Savinelli Dry System and it still smoked to hot and again gave me tongue bite. I was about to toss it when I received my Daggner Cob Poker; it smoked extremely nice in this pipe, no tongue bite at all and the flavor was 100% better. I then smoked it in my CAO Meerschaum and again it smoked extremely well. So, great all day smoke; my advice is to use a Meerschaum or Cob pipe, that is what i will be doing from here on.

A Warm, Dry Pleasant Smoke
I really enjoyed the Captain Black Triple Play Sampler, especially the Red Sky, so I decided to try the Black Copper and I was not disappointed. I keep the pouch in my jacket while working on my farm and it has become a favorite tobacco of mine. I find it burns a bit hot and has a slight but pleasant bite on the tongue. I usually tamp my pipe down a couple times while smoking a bowl and relight it anyway, I let it cool a bit when I do this when smoking the Black Copper. I consider this to be on the moderate side of mild, with a dry smoky flavor that I find very enjoyable. I would recommend it.

Non-Aromatic Captain
When you open the pouch there is a vanilla smell, but with a definite pure tobacco aroma as well. The pouch I received was just about right in moisture and was ready to go right out of the box. The best way to light this stuff is with a charring light, a tamp, and then a full light. After that, the tobacco stays lit all the way down the bowl. The smoke is full and the first few puffs remind you of the sweet smell from the pouch. This, however, soon gives way to a straight tobacco taste which is very mild and forgiving of fast puffing. With the Virginia and Burley, the stuff achieves a kind of taste that one might associate with steeping tea in a cast iron pot. I say that the the taste is sort metallic, but in a good way. I would guess that is why it was called Copper in the first place. It is very interesting for a tobacco in this genre. The taste stays the same all the way down to the bottom of the bowl. The ash is fine and jumps out with a knockand the pipe is left dry and ghost-free. The aroma is something unusual for the Captain Black line. The wife absolutely hates it. This is the first Captain Black blend that has not been appreciated. Fortunately, it does not linger. The Nicotine level seems low to me and there is no after taste to contend with. And, one more thing, it does not really pair with coffee as most Burley blends seem to be able to do. Overall, a mild blend perfect for those aromatic smokers looking to venture into Burley-based blends. I can't say that I will buy this again and again, but it is a nice change of pace from the usual Captain Black offterings.

Capn Black Copper
I tried `Copper on a whim while purchasing my other staple (Lane BCA). Overall, it was smokable, but I found it had a bite and burned hot, and just overall had a sharpness to it. It was ok, but not something I'd want every day. Worth a try I suppose, but I didn't finish the pouch.
Customer Testimonials
Captain Black Copper is altogether pleasing to senses of sight, smell, touch, and taste. Upon opening the tin, the excellent quality of the tobaccos is obvious. The aroma in the tin is that of liquor, vanilla, and something else that reminds me of holiday confections such as pumpkin bread. Upon lighting, the taste is clean and carries over much from the tin aroma. The burleys provide very mild chocolate undertones and the taste reminds me of good quality black tea. Sweetness is provided by the bright Virginia. The room note is pleasant, the tobacco burns well, and keeping it lit throughout the bowl doesn't demand a great deal of attention. "Copper" produces no goopy dottle. This is my favorite of the Captain Black series. I would recommend it to any aromatic lover who desires a more natural smoke.
RS of Dickson, TN
Hadn't smoked any CB blends in years. I ordered a pouch of this and will be ordering more. Wonderful pouch and room aroma! A mild bite free smoke.
JK of San Bernardino, CA
This blend is everything it promises to be. This may become my daily bread and butter smoke. The room note is excellent and the flavor is great. Smoked a bowl fresh out of the pouch and it was great from the start.
MC of Bella Vista, AR
CB Copper is a keeper. I prefer Carter Hall to the CB blends, but Copper is the exception. Smokes good, flavors stay mostly though out the bowl. Room note is good. Doesn't wet the bowl as bad like the other CB blends. I didn't notice the chemical taste as I do with the other CBs, that's one of the reasons I don't smoke them. I might have to keep some of this one around for a change of pace. I have tried all the CBs and this one is the best of the lot.
JR of Hydro, OK
I've not been a Captain Black fan. I ordered a pouch of Copper and was greeted by a very nice aroma, smoked some in a MM and right off the git go I was likein it! Good tobacco flavor which many aro's don't have and it has the room note an aro should have. Where's a Copper when you need one? In yer pipe mate!
JG of Peoria, AZ
I really enjoyed this smoke, smooth with no bite. I must say, this is my second favorite (close first) CB blend. Definitely going to buy more!
GM of Hemet, CA
I've been smoking Capt. Black for close to 50 years and ive been mixing burly in it at a rate of 60-40 now I don't have to. Copper is the best I've tried in many years and as soon as I smoke my remaining Capt Black white I'll be buying Copper for sure.
DC of lowell, MA
The description of this blend on this page mirrored my pleasure in smoking CB Copper. Tasty smoke from top of the bowl to the medium to strong finish. And a room note sure to please is always a plus!
JM of Romulus, MI
Capt Black Copper is very different than any other Capt Black blends. Much more tobacco flavor which is good. Room aroma was good as well as taste a nice change from some of the more heavily flavored blends.
EB of Malta, NY
IMHO, this may be the best offering from Captain Black to date. Really mellow, delicious without any cloying sweetness, NEVER a gurgle, not a trace of bite. An outstanding OTC blend!
AS of Wellfleet, MA
Great flavor.Great room note. No tongue bite. Wife approved. Enough said.
AR of Mission Viejo, CA
I found out about this new Captain Black in the latest P&C catalog. Being a CB fan (of most of their blends) I had to order this one. It has a good aroma and taste with no bite. The best way I can describe this blend is it falls somewhere between Lane LL-7 and Sutliff Metropolitain. Its very similar to both. Well, the Captain has brought us another winner. I think I'm going to keep this one in my regular rotation. If you are an aromatic fan give this one a try!
BW of Pomona, CA
Just opened and smoked the new Captain Black Copper. Amazing smoke. Cool on the tongue, great aroma and taste, seems to burn cool, stays lit well. Wife loves this one. The nutty Burley, Black Cavendish, and Sweet Virginia makes an awesome mix. This could my new Favorite.
KB of Tulsa, OK
This stuff is unlike any other captain blend I've had. You can actually taste the bright Virginia. It is a very good smoke of you're looking for a medium strength aromatic. I will certainly be buying more.
