I'm a CB fan. Some people dont care for 'em, but I think those people are looking for something more intense and get let down. This stuff is wonderfully forgiving. Burns cool, no bite, the cut lets your pack not be perfect but still burn. Dosen't get overly gunky at the bottom. Room note is mild taste is mild. Tin note is amazing, but it is true that it doesn't taste or smell like the time once lit - but hey, what tobacco does?!? If you're a new Piper, or just like it mild and easy going, this stuff is a treat ...if you can find some.

Everything about this is great. Soon as you open the tin the aroma is heavenly. Perfectly balanced moisture wise. Not too dry and not too wet. Smokes wonderfully and evenly without getting too hot. The room note is so nice my wife even loves it. Will be buying another tin!

My Replacement for McClelland Tastemaster

When McClelland Tobacco Company recently closed its doors, I had to find an acceptable replacement for Tastemaster as my favorite daily smoke. Captain Black had been my favorite years ago before I'd found Tastemaster so after experimenting with some Dunhill bulk chocolates that didn't come close, I turned to Lane products. Captain Black Dark, Lane BCA, and Lane 1-Q were all in the running, but Captain Black Midnight Gold was the clear winner. BCA and 1-Q are nice and smooth, but neither has very much flavor by comparison. The combination of the cut, flavor, and mildness of Midnight Gold really work for me, and after comparing it directly with some leftover Tastemaster, I might even like this a little better.

Mac Baren's 7 Seas Original is probably my favorite tobacco. But, I have to say, Captain Black's Midnight Gold is definitely a close second. I really like Captain Black's Original Blend and Royal Blend, as well as their Premium Black Sea Blend...but Midnight Gold is probably the best of them all! It's got a great flavor when smoked, burns well, and no bite. I'm on my third tin of this stuff, and when it's gone I'll definitely be buying another.

I purchased Captain Black Midnight Gold, together with Lane Limited BCA and Lane Limited Raspberry and unlike the Lane Limited, to me, Captain Black was a bit more on the "Warmer/Hotter" side of a smoke and gave a tad bit of tongue bite. Overall, it is a Great Smoke!!! Noted are its sweet chocolate like aromas, sweet darker flavors, however fatigues my tongue and senses quickly, and for me, is not an all day smoke. At the end of the day, it is a great smoke, highly recommended to any pipe smokers collection!!!

Recently bought a tin of C.B. Midnight Gold to test and was very pleasantly surprised. I've always liked the various C.B blends but this one definitely rates several notches above the rest. This is a blend of Black Cavendish and Burley and has subtle nuances of whiskey, plus a very light nougat flavor. It's satisfyingly rich, but still very mellow. Has a great room note and no tongue bite at all.
I've mixed my own blends for over 30 years but this is one of a very few packaged pipe tobaccos that I could call almost perfect and can smoke straight from the tin, as is.

This blend is my favorite of all the Captain Black blends, and that is saying a lot because I pretty much like all of their blends. Midnight Gold is so smooth, rich and creamy it is definitely an all day kind of blend. Midnight Gold is a mainstay in my pipe tobacco rotation. It is on the top of my aromatic list.

This blend reminds me of Captain Black Dark mixed with cigar tobacco. In fact, that's exactly what it looks like in the can. The light flakes resemble LTL from machine made cigars. Even so, it is a very pleasant smelling and smoking pipe tobacco.

Actually I purchased this tobacco and smoked it over three months ago. The product is one of the finest,most pleasing,ones I have ever smoked in 30 years of smoking a pipe. The problem is that Lane does not sell it in bulk so it's a little too expensive to use as an every day smoker. If or when Lane packages this tobacco in bulk I will be sure to purchase it again

Midnight Gold is the Cadillac of Lane Tobaccos, for my taste. Rich, creamy, medium tobacco taste----aromatic, with extraordinary heavenly room note. This is a very solid blend. It's light and sweet. This is a great tobacco for those who are new to the pipe. I like a tobacco that is a little be stronger in nicotine and fuller in flavor though. This is still a great tobacco blend --better than Captain Black Regular! This tobacco blend reminds me a lot of Lane 1-Q.

First let me say that I don't taste all the things that the experts taste whether it be tobacco,wine, scotch etc. I either like it or not. This tobacco to me is sweet and mild and stays lit after two lights for a great 45 min. smoke. If you like an aromatic you will like this.

The old Dad's favourite (spelling intentional). People swoon over the smell of this smoke, inevitably reminding them of their father or grandfather or uncle something... It's flavorful, but it tends to smoke wet and cause gurgling and occasional yucky backwash. It will also dry out in a heartbeat, so you have to keep it sealed in a number two mayonnaise jar (Johnny) or something to avoid causing a conflagration when next you light.

Just thought i will revisit this blend.. It hasnt let me down nor do i have anything bad to say about it.. I forgot to add in my last address that this blend has slight hint of Maple Syrup. You may not even notice it its so light. But deffinately Maple. Pretty much the same performance as before. Long smoke time, cool smoke, no bite. I think what I like about this most is it stayed lit with just one flick of bic. It just wants to stay lit with little tamp now and then. Little over an hour of smoking time. It reduced down to a fine powder for easy clean up. This is a definate keeper in my rotation of other blends. Very enjoyable.

This is a outstanding evening tobacco. Of the three Captain Black tinned, "Premium Edition" tobaccos, Midnight Gold is the most robust. It is dark, rich; but very smooth. Puts a nice "woodsy" note in the air, and is just all around hearty and satisfying. As with all Captain Black tobaccos, it's flavor is mild and it WILL NOT bite - very easy on the tongue. I have been a fan of the Captain Black White tobacco for a long time, and I must say I was very surprised and impressed by the Captain's tinned line - all very nice.

I had a really pleaseant experiance with CB Midnight Gold today and one I will remember with this blend because it did two things for me that I really cant say what any other brand or blend did.
1. Once properly packed in my pipe it only took "one" match to keep it lit through out my smoking time from the top of the bowl to the bottom (along with tamping). Ive not been able to do this with any other brand and it provided me with a good hour and 15 minutes of smoking time.
2. It also provided me with the least amount of tounge bite out of all the CB blends and was comparable with that of Ole Shan #76.
It provided a wonderful room note and it always gave me lots of smoke. I like this Midnight Gold the best from the Captain Black premium edition's and maybe you will too.
