Captain Black Midnight Gold is a smooth and lightly-sweet blend of superb Burleys, rich, but mellow black Cavendish, and a bit of bright Virginia. It has a wonderful confectionery aroma, and can be enjoyed all day without worrying about bite. When you want the smoothest and warmest of the Captain Black blends, give Midnight Gold a try.
This blend is one of the best Lane has to offer. I purchased a tin for a taste test and was very impressed. Burns smooth, lights evenly and has a heavenly taste and aroma.
The old Dad's favourite (spelling intentional). People swoon over the smell of this smoke, inevitably reminding them of their father or grandfather or uncle something... It's flavorful, but it tends to smoke wet and cause gurgling and occasional yucky backwash. It will also dry out in a heartbeat, so you have to keep it sealed in a number two mayonnaise jar (Johnny) or something to avoid causing a conflagration when next you light.
Just thought i will revisit this blend.. It hasnt let me down nor do i have anything bad to say about it.. I forgot to add in my last address that this blend has slight hint of Maple Syrup. You may not even notice it its so light. But deffinately Maple. Pretty much the same performance as before. Long smoke time, cool smoke, no bite. I think what I like about this most is it stayed lit with just one flick of bic. It just wants to stay lit with little tamp now and then. Little over an hour of smoking time. It reduced down to a fine powder for easy clean up. This is a definate keeper in my rotation of other blends. Very enjoyable.
If you like Captain Black, you'll love Midnight Gold! It reminds me of Captain Black Regular but tastier, smoother and with a wonderful room note. I have had a lot of people tell me that this one smells good so it's a crowd pleaser!
This is a outstanding evening tobacco. Of the three Captain Black tinned, "Premium Edition" tobaccos, Midnight Gold is the most robust. It is dark, rich; but very smooth. Puts a nice "woodsy" note in the air, and is just all around hearty and satisfying. As with all Captain Black tobaccos, it's flavor is mild and it WILL NOT bite - very easy on the tongue. I have been a fan of the Captain Black White tobacco for a long time, and I must say I was very surprised and impressed by the Captain's tinned line - all very nice.
I had a really pleaseant experiance with CB Midnight Gold today and one I will remember with this blend because it did two things for me that I really cant say what any other brand or blend did. 1. Once properly packed in my pipe it only took "one" match to keep it lit through out my smoking time from the top of the bowl to the bottom (along with tamping). Ive not been able to do this with any other brand and it provided me with a good hour and 15 minutes of smoking time. 2. It also provided me with the least amount of tounge bite out of all the CB blends and was comparable with that of Ole Shan #76. It provided a wonderful room note and it always gave me lots of smoke. I like this Midnight Gold the best from the Captain Black premium edition's and maybe you will too.
As my appreciation for pipe tobacco evolved, I began to consider CB a "drug store tobacco" and quit using it years ago. This new blend reminds me of the original but more complex and of higher quality overall. If you're a CB fan, and into aromatics, you owe yourself a tin of this! It's mild, tastes great, andhas a wonderful room note. It elevates the CB brand to the level it was intended.
Very light in flavor and odor. Almost too light.
Great stuff! It's like a better version of CB original (which was hard to beat already!). This is one of my new favorites!
Decent with a good room note. I cherish my time spent with Captain Black but these tins really are not better than the pouches in my opinion but it was a pleasure to try and enjoy them.
