A red Virginia Cavendish cased with a delicate maple, vanilla, citrus, and liquor flavor comprises the enjoyable Cornell & Diehl Autumn Evening pipe tobacco. This is one of those rare aromatics that actually tastes the same as it smells. The three day process that’s used to make this Autumn Evening blend is what ensures the flavor and aroma. Pick up Cornell and Diehl’s best-selling aromatic Autumn Evening along with a quality pipe here in one convenient place at the best price you won’t find anywhere else.
Mine was a little dry out of the bag bought in bulk. Good quality leaf but has a buttery maple casing that sticks to everything, clothes, hands and pipe interiors. I smoke this in its own dedicated cob with a few Nording Keystones in the bottom of the pipe as a goop absorber. This is an above average aromatic sweet tasting tobacco.
I was very excited to smoke this blend. The tin note was very strong and very maple syrupy. I asked a few friends to smell and they commented "smells like breakfast!" In the bowl, it pleased the nose just as much. However, don't expect this blend to have a strong maple flavor - it was pretty light compared to the smell. It also left a bad aftertaste (chemically, ashy, bitter) in my mouth which wasn't pleasant. Overall not too bad, worth a try, but I'm probably not purchasing it again!
Despite the positive reviews, sadly I was a bit disappointed with this one. Maybe it has to dry out a bit or something, but honestly, though it initially tasted like a pretty good vanilla yogurt, it sort of turned into a bitter, ashy flavor about a third down the bowl. I'll give a couple more goes, but until then my opinion will stand.
C&D's Autumn Evening was surprising to me in that the maple topping and the aromatic-ness of the tobacco was not that overwhelming. It was VERY subtle. The natural flavor of the tobacco came through well. This tobacco is perfect for this Fall/Winter season. A great smoke that even non-aro smokers would like!
Absolutely love this blend, and smoke it year round!
This leaves a weird chemical aftertaste. I couldn't smoke the whole bowl.
I absolutely love this, will buy again.
Love this blend! The flavor was there for me and I truly enjoyed it. I highly recommend this one if you like aromatics.
I was referred to this tobacco by Russ himself when I inquired about a tobacco with a good room note. I was not disappointed when I opened the bag and smelled the maple right away. I smoked this in my Peterson that I just cleaned two days prior with Jack Daniels whiskey and the flavor was amazing. Very maple with a room note of maple syrup that left my fiance saying "That smells really good." I will be coming back for more of this.
If you are after a maple flavored tobacco, then this is it. i dont know how many people find it bland or taste bad (to each his own) but i tried all what the market have to offer in regard to maple excluding maple town cavendish by mccleland and pipe work and wilky maple? and i can safely say this is the most prominent. the virginia quality is good as well but is mainly masked by casing. get some and get pancakyy about it!
