Cornell & Diehl Bayou Night

Cornell & Diehl Bayou Night is a stout blend with a healthy amount of toasted red Virginia, a splash of Latakia, Turkish and rough cut Burley, all capped off with a goodly share of Louisiana Perique. This heady smoke is remarkably cool and satisfying. Not for the Periqueaphobe,  C&D's Bayou Night is a Perique-lover's dream.

Surprisingly excellent.
Nutty, smooth, spicy plum raisin flavor. Very well balanced. Burns cool and easy. Bag note is not too strong but terrible, smells like fish food. It does not smell bad when smoked. The Laramie is barely discernable, but there. All perhaps flavor is the main player, and just behind it are the very nice smooth and nutty burleys. Pretty Smokey and has a very full flavor.

High nicotine content
If you need a strong nicotine fix and quick, this is the tobacco for that. Taste is a bit harsh for my preferences but that’s not a fault on the product, I just expected something different.

Strange but Good
I gave this five stars because I really enjoyed it and it was a full bodied tobacco that tasted like a real tobacco should however for some reason the smoke from this bothered my eyes. I have been a smoker for over sixty years and this is a first for me. The only thing I can think of is that I smoked too much of it to frequently. I still plan on buying some more for an occasional smoke.

Not so sweet
Well done C&D. This tobacco to me is best in the evening(as the name implies) with a good drink and in a large pipe. The initial start was quite a rush of strong smoke, but it then mellows to more genuine flavors of the tobaccos of this mixture.

Robust and amazing!
Amazing. I've been hearing all the rave about this Bayou night and now I know why. Perique to the max and just full of flavor. Definitely not for the weak. If you like a robust tobacco, don't miss out on this.

Great flavor with a nice
Great flavor with a nice bite. It isn’t going to be an everyday smoke, but certainly something I will keep on hand and return to on regular occasion.

Cigar substitute
Tin note smells of hay, much like a pasture but without the usual manure undertone. Initial light is nearly overwhelming. Harsh, peppery, and dry. After the first few hits it balances, but the strength remains, on par with a cigar. Definitely not your all-day-smoke, this is a smoke that should be reserved for after a hearty meal, or after a few drinks, or for pissing off your wife.

Budget Nightcap
Great smoke. Definitely Perique forward and strong, a great end-of-day smoke after a hard day's work and a good meal. Being a Dunhill (now Peterson) Nightcap fan, I would put this a slight step below as it is not as "smooth" a smoke and a bit drier on the palate, but excellent in it's own right and will be in my regular rotation.

Fantastic Blend
Fantastic blend. I am mostly a Latakia guy, but found this and wanted to give it a try as I found myself enjoying perique forward blends more and more. I enjoy this so much it has now become the first choice for me when I want to have a nice relaxing smoke. There is a ton of perique here but it is never over powering and its all well balanced. Very satisfying. I have read some reviews that say you should only try this if you are a fan of perique. I would say you should try it if you are looking for a great perique blend. I'm pretty sure you will become a fan of this blend once you try it.

A foggy night on the bayou!
Right now I give this five stars! I wouldn't always, just because sometimes, as with any blend, it doesn't "do it" for me quite as much. But right now it's exactly what I wanted. A great accent on the Perique, but overall extremely well balanced, creamy, dark and rich - like a thick, dank but good-smelling fog I'm canoing through in a Louisiana bayou. My head is getting foggy, but in a clear-headed way if that makes any sense. I want to be in the fog, and the taste, rich smokiness, the temperature (not too hot or too cool), and the nic-hit (I'd say between Middle and High) are propelling me through it. Sometimes the nic-hit doesn't seem as strong, but now it's even a little close to high. This is a terrific blend. By the way, I've almost finished the jar, so it's dried out quite a bit now even though it's jarred, and I think the dryness may have amped-up the nic a bit, which is quite nice if you like that. I like it!

My favorite for fishing (' > =《
My favorite when fishing. Strong, thick clouds, and cool smoking. Spicy and will clear out the sinuses. I would recommend to anyone who is new or havent had a perique blend. I bought 8 oz, and this will be in my regular rotation. Happy smoking!

Not my favorite
I don’t hate this blend. I bought 1 oz. to try. It’s certainly big on the nicotine. So keep that in mind if you’re thinking about ordering some. I just feel like there wasn’t a whole lot going on as far as flavor was concerned. On a plus side, it stays lit very well and does not burn hot.

The Spice of Life
Really clears out the sinuses on the retrohale. The spice of the perique is astounding. Bold to say the least. I enjoyed it.

Good English at a reasonable price
As a fan of Dunhill Nightcap and Rattray's tobacco I had hoped this would be more Latakia forward and fuller. On the other hand I can't smoke this in the morning. Perfectly acceptable stuff.

Strong Cigar
Initial with a Peterson 80s was insane - Like a crazy strong cigar both in room note and punch! I did get my bowl going smoothly - it was better > or maybe I was a little used to it after getting hit? I am not a fan even after it smoothed out. Not much flavor for such a heavy hitter.

Good tobacco
This was another one I just ordered without knowing much about. It's a good tobacco. It's fairly rich and smooth and I didn't experience any negatives as far that goes. I liked it the more I smoked it, but I think that's the way most tobaccos are.

Rich and Spicy
I love a good stout and freshly roasted straight espresso so finding this blend was a real treat. For a special occasion or after a long hard day, this blend's richness is just amazing. One of my favorites right now for sure. Highly recommend for someone who loves perique or someone with a developed taste pallet that enjoys the adventure of exploring rich and complex blends.

Not my favorite
Not my style. To me, it simply tastes like white burley. Not much flavor at all, but very strong.

Good and tasty!
I am a novice pipe smoker, so I am not great at detecting individual notes. But I thoroughly enjoyed this tobacco, it's nice and spicy, somewhat sweet with some smokeyness. I bought 8oz and plan on buying more! Be sure to eat beforehand if you are a lightweight like me (previously an aromatic smoker) it can make the room spin towards the end!

My favorit burley,
This is my favorite burley blend so far. It was less "cigarette-ish" than haunted bookshop and left a very nice room note.

Wonderful smoke!
Holy moly...this smoke in certainly intense, which is my preference. I thoroughly enjoyed this smoke! It is very robust, with a great balance of VA and Perique, and the light addition of Latakia. I am not a big fan of Latakia, and this smoke has the perfect balance. The Latakia is hardly present, but you know it's there. Wonderful smoke, and will definitely be in my regular rotation. I highly recommend this!

Customer Testimonials
Tasty blend, strong, to be enjoyed slowly, with loads of Perique and sweet/earthy undertones, not for the faint of heart. This was pared with a good Kentucky Bourbon, on the rocks. Excellent....Will definitely be in my regular rotation....Enjoy!
