The newest entry in Cornell & Diehl's Cellar Series is Bijou, a flake made of toasty-sweet 2003 crop red Virginia which is combined with exotic Katerini orientals from Greece, to which a bit of honey is added. The tobaccos are layered and pressed and then sliced into flakes. The folks at C&D estimate that the blend will be at its most enjoyable with ten to fifteen years on it, so buy a few - one to try now and others to age. Bijou is French for jewel, and it's an apt term to describe this gem of a blend.

Very nice sweeter fruit flavor. Low nicotine, no bite, required relights but smokes great out of the tin. Would probably like a little more spice but definitely something I will purchase more of. Great for when I want the plum fruit flavors vs something more savory.

My Absolute Favorite Virginia

Everyone has their personal favorites. Here is one of my top 5. Actually it ranks number 1 in that group. Maybe its the marriage of the Red Virginia with the small leaf Katarini & bright leaf. Or perhaps the touch of honey in the casing. Whatever the alchemy is, I’m a lifelong fan. Whenever I’m uncertain about what I want to smoke I always pick this. After trying many traditional Virginia blends I’ve decided this is the one for me. It won’t be for everyone’s personal taste, but if you fancy a good Virginia blend give this a try. You may be surprised.

I have only two absolute essentials. Bijou is one. I’ve tried many red Virginia blends but this one leads all for me. The bright leaf and Katerini sneak in now and again giving you the impression this is an Oriental forward blend. Then the light honey topping kicks the Virginia forward again and round we go. I love this blend so much that I keep second guessing my review, feeling like I’ve not given enough praise. Sipped slowly or drawn deeply, this gem doesn’t bite. I will say that if you can find tins sealed at 2016 or 2017, then absolutely get them! I found Cornell & Diehl’s suggestion to be true. “This gem requires no adornment. Just time.” It is a few slices of heaven it you wait a few years.

Description says it all. I opened my first tin almost a year ago to the day and it is just starting to mature. This blend needs some time. If you’re patient, you will be rewarded. Cant wait to see what a couple of years to mature will bring.

Bijou fits my sweet Virginia Perique with oriental preference. The honey doesn't overpower the oriental leaf in the flake. It's gently sweet, perfect for the morning pipe.

Definitely going to take some time to pick out all the hidden flavors in this beautifully aged tobacco but it is quickly moving it's way up the list of a everyday smoke .
