Cornell & Diehl Blockade Runner

Cornell & Diehl Blockade Runner is a crumble cake made in the fashion of a navy flake. A mixture of red and bright Virginias are treated to a bath in rum for a week, after which the tobaccos are gently stoved and then pressed into a cake. The plug is easy to prepare, and you'll be greeted by a sweet and zesty flavor with a remarkable amount of depth for a straight Virginia blend. Set sail with C&D's Blockade Runner and enjoy the ride.

Worth the wait
Originally ordered when it was listed as backordered. After three months and website listing it in stock, called CS. Excellent experience working with the CS rep. The re placement however did not show. Had to call CS again. Once again had an excellent conversation with the CSrep. They shipped again. FINALLY after 4 and a half months got to try the Blockade Runner. It is worth the wait. I just hope when I order more that I don't have to wait as long.

Excellent blend, rum forward for sure.
I purchased this blend about a year ago,and jarred it to let it mellow a bit...BOOM...that did it.The rum essence now blends wonderfully and compliments the Virginia Cavendish perfectly...a beautiful cake with deep, dark color and depth, hay-like,slightly bready, and undertones of rum...No wonder that I have come to really like C&D blends, they make up about half of all my many cellared tobacco blends.Very unique and enjoyable among producers.

A Smashing Success
I purchased this because I had previously tried C&D's Blockade Runner which is a Navy style crumble cake. I loved it. As someone who is trying out the world of English blends, I wanted to see what a rum infused English would taste like. Boy am I delighted, this is one of my new favorites in my constant rotation. It is very smooth, and the rum adds just enough sweetness. Take my advice and stockpile some of this, I can only imagine that it will taste better with age. I plan on buying several tins to cellar away.

A keeper.
Couldn't be a truer Navy blend. The rum flavor jumps out right away and stays with you the full smoke as the wonderful molasses flavor comes up to great you. Nice tantalizing tobacco. Probably going to add this to my white-list rotation. Can't get enough of this one!

Exquisite is the word!
This has a pleasant natural sweet taste and is fairly bold in taste. I had to relight a couple times but still great stuff. If this is this good out of the gate I'm wondering how great it would be with some cellar time. I will definitely be buying some more of this to store away. This is about as strong as I like to go for my taste. There is a spice taste I can't put my finger on. I quit drinking in 1998 but this brings back memories of sipping Captain Morgan Spiced Rum.

Very pleasant taste after 9 years aging.
In 2007 I bought tin and packed it away. Fast forward 9 years I popped it open and I must say it is a very nice, smooth, smoke. I can't tell you what the tobacco is like once it is purchased new; all I can say after 9 years it remained fresh, it has a smokey, pleasant, liquor flavor with no bite.

Exqisite
This is one of my favorite blends, I just wish it was available in larger quantities. Bulk would be perfect but eight ounce tins would be an improvement. I want more.

Navy Cavendish Disapointment
I did a comparison to this and McClelland's Navy Cavendish (which is 5 star), but this had more bite and it is not as smooth and tasty as the McClelland's. Will not purchase again.
Customer Testimonials
Overall, it's not bad. I don't really taste a noticeable rum flavor but the natural flavors are pretty good. It packs and burns great with no relighting. If you are looking for a distinct rum flavor, this isn't for you. If you like natural tobaccos, you'll probably enjoy this one.
