Another entry in the Cellar Series by Cornell & Diehl is Bourbon Bleu. This crumble cake is made by pressing a variety of ripe Virginias with dark-fired Kentucky and Perique, and is finished with a bit of Bourbon flavor. Time will allow the blend to become more balanced, deeper and sweeter, and should be at its best in 10 to 15 years.
I bought this because of the "punch drunk" sampler. In terms of flavor, warhorse green wins by far. The Bourbon Bleu is said it will be at its best after cellaring for ten to fifteen years- I dont have the patience for all that. From the smell, I mostly pick up the perique, and a mild hay smell. Almost like wet cardboard- not bad, not too extravagant in terms of flavor. I dont detect any bourbon in the taste or smell. worth the discounted price in the sampler, most definitely.
