Cornell & Diehl Briar Fox

Cornell & Diehl Briar Fox is crumble cake made of a range of Virginias and quality Burley. The cake breaks apart easily for easy preparation. The flavor profile includes a bit of hay-like sweetness and the toastiness of ripe, red Virginias. The cocoa and nutty flavors come through, and it produces thick smoke with excellent mouth-feel. This blend was a favorite of the late Danish pipe maker, Peter Heeschen. The flavor builds gradually throughout the smoke, so Briar Fox delivers all the way through the bowl.

A desert island blend.

Delicious and Complex
Although I’m new to pipe smoking, I’m not new to the world of tobacco. I’ve been smoking cigars for a few years now, and I know how a blend can change and evolve as you smoke throughout a stick, and now a bowl. This blend evolves and ebbs and flows more than most sticks I’ve had. It starts out with the grassy/hay and sweet notes of the Virginia, with the Burley adding a bit of a bite and some nuttiness. As you go further down the bowl, the sweetness and grassy notes subside and the flavor darkens considerably. It gets really peppery, spicy and I also get woody and leathery notes. Incredibly delicious. I know taste buds change over time, but I love flavor profiles like this and I love that this is the very first blend I tried out on my pipe journey. Will keep plenty of this for as long as I keep smoking.

Tastes like a cigarette
The most cigarette like tasting pipe tobacco blend I’ve had. Tons of thick smoke, single tone in flavor. The burleys really come through. That’s about it.

Classic and wonderful
Some tobacco’s just work. Behave while and strike just the right balance. This is one of those. Simple yet deep. I always love this blend.

A wonderful, balanced all-day blend
A fantastic all-day blend, with exceptional balance between the bright and crisp virginias, and the earthiness from the burley. I highly recommend Briar Fox, plus the tin art is super cool!

It’s good and bad.
I’m torn on this. I keep going back, it is usually Smokey and cigarette like, the fruity/raisin sweetness is fleeting and hard to hold, and leaves your mouth like smoke and butter... That being said? I keep smoking it....

I'm buying more
Just wow, first bowl and I was in love haha. No, but seriously I'm going to definitely to keep this on hand. The nicotine is higher than 2 out 5. I do get a buzz off of it, a good comparison for nicotine is orlik golden slice. Some can smoke it all day, I cannot. The spice isnt noticeable at first but develops through the bowl. Me, personally, like Virginia's, Burley, and blends with perique(this blend has no perique) which give a cajun/spice. So if you like those things separate or together, this a blend for almost/anyone should try. I cant think of anyone who shouldnt try this unless you only like blends that have latakia/orientals in it, but if you want a blend to break away from that, than yes, try it! Happy smoking!

Briar fox
I truly enjoy smoking briar fox after letting it age in the tin for a good long time. The date it was sealed is on the bottom of the tin. I keep it sealed till the tin sealed date is 2 years. (In my humidor to keep constant temp.) it takes on the sweetness off the blend and give a great room note and smoothens out a bit. If you don't age it it's not as good of a smoke. Age is the key. I'm aging 2 1/2 lb now can't wait to get into it at Christmas 2018

C&D Briar Fox
Quality tobacco, smokes good, have too puff on it too keep it lit. I would have given this a higher rating but, the cigarette taste was a huge turn off. If you dislike cigarettes leave this alone I purchased 2 tins wanting to like this blend since it gets good reviews, unfortunately it's a no go for me.

Needs to age!
Needs age. This tobacco lacks dynamic flavor due to being young. Nothing wrong with this tobacco it smokes perfectly and has no bite. The flavor needs time to mature. I have this in my cellar and will see how it does in a year.

Nothing to write home about.
Nothing special. I give 3 stars because it is very smooth without any bite. This is a very very very mellow smoke especially for something with virginia and burley. Not sure I could even detect the burley in this. As for the virginia it is good just not great. On the + side and or the reason I did not give it 2 stars is because there is no bite at all. I was surprised that upon opening the tin and packing a bowl it list right up with the charing light. I mean I put the match over the tobacco and took a puff or two... then went to tamp it down like I do.... puffed on it before applying another match... at it was lit! That was amazing, especially considering I just opened the tin. Again that might earn it another star had it been something special... This to me would be a 2 star smoke except no bite and the ease of lighting.... so I guess it did earn a third star due to those two things.

Good Stuff.
Odd reviews here. This is not a Vaper, English or aromatic like some have said. It's a no nonsense Va burley. Great after dinner smoke. Get some. I'm ordering the big tin next time.

Stong but a little spicy. Good English blend

Not your mama's cake
A nice light aromatic that will burn slowly for days. I liked it. Once you open the tin though, it seems to dry quickly

Nothing but rich tobacco flavor from start to finish.
I love this stuff. It's nothing but rich tobacco flavor from start to finish. Nutty, creamy and a little sweet, it also has a pleasant room note for a non-aromatic. Produces little to no tongue bite, and smokes nice and dry in the pipe. Just sip slow, since this stuff does burn HOT.

great taste...
Briar fox is a decent introduction to crumble cakes for me. The flavor so far is good and is pleasant to smoke. Still have to decide my full opinion on this tobacco but it ia looking positive

My go to tobacco
It took two or three bowls to decide if I like this tobacco or not. It seemed the more I smoke it the more I liked it. Now I seem to find myself smoking this over all the other tobaccos I have. It burns great and very cool and is a very relaxing smoke. One of the best.

Great Tin Note!!!
This has an amazing tin note and makes you really want to have a nice long smoke. But (yeah, sorry), it smokes very hot for me for some reason and turns the taste a little bitter on me. Maybe a little too moist, so I am letting it age a little and see if it changes anything.
Customer Testimonials
My favorite morning smoke, hands down. It's a red and yellow Virginia mixed with a little toasted unsweetened Cavendish. This gives it a nice little nutty Burley background, and cools down the Virginias. Tin note is raisin bran, and the flavor produces nice buttered toast notes. Love this stuff!!!

This tobacco isn't all that bad. The tin note a bittersweet chocolate. Very little spice to the smoke as it is mainly a bittersweet flavor throughout. Grassy notes with little to no bite. Good working sole as I'd call it.

Briar Fox started out pretty spicy and stout but mellowed and developed a great flavor as smoked. Not my favorite Virginia but it is good. Worth a try if you like Virginia's.
