Cornell & Diehl Briar Fox is crumble cake made of a range of Virginias and quality Burley. The cake breaks apart easily for easy preparation. The flavor profile includes a bit of hay-like sweetness and the toastiness of ripe, red Virginias. The cocoa and nutty flavors come through, and it produces thick smoke with excellent mouth-feel. This blend was a favorite of the late Danish pipe maker, Peter Heeschen. The flavor builds gradually throughout the smoke, so Briar Fox delivers all the way through the bowl.
My favorite morning smoke, hands down. It's a red and yellow Virginia mixed with a little toasted unsweetened Cavendish. This gives it a nice little nutty Burley background, and cools down the Virginias. Tin note is raisin bran, and the flavor produces nice buttered toast notes. Love this stuff!!!
This tobacco isn't all that bad. The tin note a bittersweet chocolate. Very little spice to the smoke as it is mainly a bittersweet flavor throughout. Grassy notes with little to no bite. Good working sole as I'd call it.
Briar Fox started out pretty spicy and stout but mellowed and developed a great flavor as smoked. Not my favorite Virginia but it is good. Worth a try if you like Virginia's.
