Cornell & Diehl Haunted Bookshop

Haunted Bookshop is an unapologetically strong Burley-based blend that is slightly sweetened by the addition of red Virginia and spiced up and deepened by including the Cajun delicacy, Perique. This is a heady smoke with plenty of pepper.

Let's go ghost hunting
I cannot say anything bad about Haunted Bookshop. I bought it because I love fantasy and adventure, and it just ticked the boxes of my DnD imagination. I was already a fan of burley and burley based blends thanks to tobaccos like Half and Half, Velvet, and the like, but the perique and red Virginia really make this blend special.

A pleasant surprise
Great taste and smokes well, very good for price. This tobacco comes across as dry but shows it's richness when lit.

A very good smoke. I was looking for an intro into something other then aromatics. This was a great starting point with a mild flavor and no bad aftertaste. I would recommend this to anyone.

Top quality leaf. The smoke
Top quality leaf. The smoke smells like the finest quality cigarette tobaccos. The flavor is medium to just past medium and earthy and perhaps a little grassy or hay-like. The vitamin N is fairly potent. Best after a meal. Absolutely perfect in every way.

Good burley/perique blend.
Pretty good. Savory. No sweetness for me. I get the earthiness flavor of dried mushrooms and black pepper from the perique and nuttiness of the burley. Has a decent nic content. I like this first thing in the morning with coffee. No bite at all and burns clean down to ash all the way. I got bulk and was on the dry side which helps it burn well. Cant go wrong for the bulk price. Get some!

Warm, musty notes of Perique
Lit and burned excellent. Mild and subtly sweet. The warm, musty notes of perique came through beautifully. This is a hands-down new favorite of mine. I may try adding a bit of dark fired Kentucky to it sometime to give it a little extra kick.

Versatile Burley blend
I like this blend with one third Yorktown mixed in but I also enjoy it's simple "toasted oats" note when I smoke it solo. Wife makes the cigarette smell complaint with this one, but not with Pegasus for dinner reason. Usually consumed in a cob.

Just a bit harsh for me.
Smelled great and received lot of compliments on the scent. Burned a little harsh for my liking, but I'm just a wee babe among giants and long time pipe smokers. I'd probably give it another try down the line.

Ok, better than nothing...
Lights and Burns good so I give it 3 stars, but otherwise this is yet another over-hyped tobacco. I don't get any of the flavors or complexity some have bragged about.

Good flavor, not overpowering
2oz is a larger amount than I thought. It was easy to light and keep lit. It smoked cool for me and had an excellent tobacco flavor. I initially bought Haunted Bookshop because I liked the name, but it turned out to be an all around good smoke that I can see being my go to for whenever I need to smoke my pipe.

Haunted bookshop has that burley
Haunted bookshop has that burley forward flavor which makes it an all day smoke. It also has a high nicotine content, which can be too much for those not use to high nicotine blends or haven't been exposed to full bodied cigars

Very good blend!
After reading/watching so many good reviews of Haunted Bookshop, I bought a tin to try. This is a very good blend, not too over powering but you'll definitely know it's an English.

Love This Stuff
I've been a pipe smoker since I was 12 years old (I'm now almost 75). Smoked mostly Burley based codger blends and English blends all that time. Never had problems with nicotine. Never say never! A few years back I decided to try Haunted Bookshop. Filled up a bowl and smoked it like I smoked my codger blends, a little on the fast side. Nicotine took its revenge. Head started swimming, nausea set-in and had to go lie down for about 20 minutes. The next bowl I smoked slower and revised my cadence. No problem then or since. Love this tobacco but it demands respect and if its demands are met it will love you back. Get some.

Great blend
It's a great blend that's suited for those that are looking for a full bodied non aromatic with the great smoking characteristics that the burley affords and and a kick with the perique. The mixture packs well and is easy to smoke after the char light. I buy it by the pound. I've been told by non smoker friends that the room note is pleasant

Good ingredients; not to my liking
I can tell the ingredients are of good quality. Everything packed and lit and drew just fine. None of the strange additives I discern in some, even of better quality. The flavor is simply not my cup of tea. I'll seal it up for awhile and see if that changes. 3 stars isn't a bad rating from me. "Good tobacco not to my liking." 4 stars are most things I like. 5 is reserved for my "go to" smokes and mythical and ambrosial leaf.

Get out your cardigan
Another good selection from C and D blends. Burns quite well and is very similar to Old Joe Krantz mixture just not as strong. It is a little rough at first, and can come off more like a cigarette if smoked too fast. The true tobacco flavor comes out abit afterthe first quarter of the bowl.

Haunted Bookshop - 2nd Review
Still enjoying immensely. Smokes a little fast, burns quick but not hot. Burns fast even when I purposely slow down. Faster than English blends by comparison.. But the flavor, so intense. Definitely going to purchase again.

Just simply didn't live upto
Just simply didn't live upto all the hype I've heard about it .perhaps I was expecting too much . I do like this blend bit again it's too mild to become one of my favorite smokes

Don’t trust the tin smell.
When I first opened it I assumed I was going to get a taste on par to a cigarette rolled with slightly better than average tobacco, but that was wrong. The taste is nice, sweet and very even. Making it a very delightful smoke. I can see how this is an all day smoke for a lot of people. Curious to see what a little age does to the taste on the other tins I got.

Settle in and smoke it sloooooooooowwwwww
I really didn't like this at first but I was chuffing it way too fast. Once I settled down and got into a slow smoke with it, it got better. It's not going to be an everyday smoke like Plum Pudding or some of the others I've tried but it's enjoyable. The room note is definitely old book leather which is awesome. Taste is going to be something so be acquired over time.

A fairly heady smoke. Intense gratification if you are in the mood for it. Bob runowski's vintage blend is an icon for burley, latakia and hint of perique fans along with other Runowski offering Epiphany. Great smoke.

C&D Haunted Bookshop
Good semi strong Bu-VaPer. Much milder version of C&D's Old Joe Krantz. Nice mellow smoke with a beautiful burley flavor. Kind of reminds me of a musty old bookshop. Virginia's tames the burley and perique. Perique adds a nice peppery aftertaste. Very good blend and will find a place for it in my rotation.

This may be one of
This may be one of my favorite blends that I’ve tried. Well balanced, but enough perique to keep it interesting through that whole smoke. I largely keep to VA and English blends but the addition of the burley lended greatly to the body of the the smoke creating a nice full feeling. If this indicative of the brand I definitely will be exploring other C&D offerings on my next order!

The more I smoke it the more I like it.
When I first tried this blend I didn't really care for it. Taste kinda like a cigarette. Reminded me of the big cheap bags of head shop "pipe tobacco." But I didn't give up on it and I'm glad I didn't because HB is really growing on me. The more I smoke it the more I like it. Just finished up another bowl and I've decided I absolutely love this stuff. Well, tomorrow is Halloween 2021 and I plan on smoking it all day long in honor of the holiday. It doesn't really bite much in a pipe but I might try it in a filtered RYO tomorrow and see what happens. Earlier this week I had intentions to smoke it until the end of the month and cellar what's left to see how well it ages in a year, but honestly I don't think I'll be able to resist staying away from it for that long. This is the only burley based blend that I've ever considered reordering.

Fantastic
I was a latakia guy all the way, then decided I would like to try some burley blends. I was not impressed with those I tried. I tried Old Joe Krantz and was blown away. I love the stuff. I decided to try Haunted Bookshop and fell in love with also. It has alot less perique than Old Joe Krantz that's for sure but that's not a bad thing. I taste the virginias a little more in HB. Very happy with this blend glad I tried it, I understand why its a big seller. Great stuff

One of my favorite perique
One of my favorite perique blends. I would say there is a good amount of perique in the blend giving it the flavor that you are looking for. It is also so well named. Being a fan of old books and bookshops that sell old books, this blend is perfectly designed to taste like what you smell in those glorious places.

I want to love this
I want to love this blend but I would say it is average to me. To be fair I have come to find that I am not much of a burley guy but overall I find nothing especially standout about this tobacco and nothing especially bad. It’s a solid C.

Bibliophiles will love this one
What a wonderful name for such an aromatic blend. It really does smell of old books in and English bookshops. A slight must gives way to warm vanilla notes. This is best smoked slow and drawn deep. Bit of bite, but not as much as some other blends I've tried. I didn't get the nicotine rush that others talked about, but I generally smoke hookah, so I'm used to the head rush. I will be trying this as a shisha next. I think it will lend itself well to that application.

I know there is a huge divide between those that love this blend and those that hate it. I personally love it. You cannot smoke this one fast and hot or it tastes like ash and cigarettes. If you slow down and allow it to burn cool, the goodness of the Perique really stands out.

I like this blend quite a bit, strong and straightforward, woodsy aroma. Makes me think more of a morning walk through a forest on a cool day than a bookshop, but that's marketing. Will definitely buy more.

Bites like a cobra, burns like yard waste.
I'm not sure if I got a bad tin or everyone is just hyping this up to be more than what it is. It's a very fine ribbon cut that takes some fiddling to pack well. It's also excessively dry, like a day old croissant. And the light up? This blend bites like a cobra no matter how slow I try to smoke. The flavor is a bit lacking; I detect no perique and cannot visibly see it. As many have said, the nicotine hits hard. I may have to try another tin but I'm not impressed.

Spicy, wheat-y, and rich - not a casual smoke
Matches860's all-time favorite! Not your everyday burley blend. Has a rich, wheat-like overtone with a spicy kick - and it's a nicotine fix for sure. It tends to make me a little "green" if I go too fast with it.

Ammendment to my previous review.
I'd like to amend my review below. As I am getting into this two pound lot of Haunted Bookshop, I am really feeling the heady experience it can cause. It's obviously got a lot vitamin N, and should be approached with that in mind. If you aren't used to strong tobacco, this one can set you down with the spins. I'm a fairly heavyweight, when it comes to that sort of thing, and it's affecting me pretty strongly (but in a good way). So bear all that in mind before setting out on your Haunted Bookshop journey! This tobacco is insidiously smooth and buttery, and will lure you in. Start with a small bowl and gradually increase from there, especially if you are not acoustomed to higher levels of nicotine.

Very smooth and strong.
I've been smoking a pipe since 1979, but after my initial exposure to the drugstore burley's, I found a B&M shop, and delved mostly into Latakia (English) blends and VaPer's. I never really gave premium burley blends a fair shake until I bought some of Russ Ouellette's H&H Classic Burley Kake. It opened my eyes to burley, and put C&D Haunted Bookshop under my radar. I ordered a bit of it, liked it, and I just received two pounds of it yesterday. It comes rather dry in bulk form, but it smokes perfectly this way (as do most pipe tobaccos). This one settles into the zone very quickly, and becomes buttery smooth. The perique is tingling to the nose, and rides in the background nicely. There is just enough sweet Virginia to taunt the palette. I'm not sure what the hype is about the nicotine, but I find it very pleasant. I have a cigar and chew background, so that may explain it. I will say that it is a no nonsense, pure tobacco blend. It is fairly strong, and probably not the best match for the beginner pipe smoker. However, for me, it's a great smoke!

Nice blend, was not as impressed as others by their reviews
The name, the blend description, the reviews left by others, I was expecting something outstanding... I was a bit disappointed with the actual experience of smoking this. Was it bad, defiantly not! It was a nice blend that I will happily finish the tin, but probably not order again or wait a couple of years and give it another shot as my palate changes with experience. I didn't get the pepper notes, but nice flavor and easy to light/smoke with a bit of tongue bite at times (I am still learning to slow down).

The fireplace is burning in the bookshop.
Definitely lives up to the hype. Gives off a nice smoke full of body. Burley forward, virginia notes come alive in second half. Has all the wonderful woody, musty, dark and heavy notes that youd expect from a burvaper. Wont disappoint.

Has become my everyday smoke
I been smoking now over 10 years have smoked so many blends I can't even remember half. And I stumbled upon haunted bookshop when on Facebook. I got an oz then 10 more lol. And about to get more. It's become what I smoke all day. There is not a lot I can say that has not been told by everyone else. I try to put a different spin on It honestly is like smoking an old log that has been sitting deep in a forest. I love it that being said it's not for everyone. I still suggest everyone try it. It comes dry and perfect if you want to smoke right out of the bag. This is how it comes in bulk idk about the tin. And honestly I can't say enough good about this stuff. It smokes well in any pipe I pack it in. I love it in a cob it also works well in my rossi 606 ks that is a monster of a pipe. Hope this helps someone.

Prince Albert with Cojones
I didn't really like this blend much the first time I tried it, the tin note smelled potently funky and the aftertaste seemed much like a cigarette (not a chemical taste but ashy after taste) and there is no topping so it's very much a straight forward tobacco blend however, it's grown to become only blend I consistently crave. Tastes great, smokes easy, decent Nicotine content, full mouth feel, nutty, chocolatey, slight raisen, smooth yet mild peppery tickle when retrohaled. Imagine Prince Albert with some cojones. I will be buying in bulk once this 8 oz tin starts running low, and it's quickly getting there....

More than one bowl appeal
Flavor is very strong and spicy to me, smoke output is really good easy to keep lit, you really need to sip with the mixture as it can get overwhelming if smoked to fast.

Hauntedly Good
I will not talk about all the numerous nuts, berry's and exotic foods people taste, I just taste a wonderful tobacco blend. No tongue bite and the bottom 1/3 smokes good. I always dry a bowl for an hour to minimize any doddle. I bought an extra tin to try blending some Haunted Pirates Ship, looking forward to smoking that as well ( google it).

Spicy and Peppery but reviews about nic sick fears are overblown
I don't know about all of these reviews saying that this stuff is so nic strong that it'll make you sick... I guess it's because I come from cigars and especially AJ's New World Oscuro, which CAN make you sick and ARE strong.. Haunted Bookshop is smooth, and peppery on the back of the palate. It is nice on the retro but also peppery and spicy. You definitely know that you're smoking something with body. I like it a lot. I have smoked multiple bowls at a time without feeling eh slightest dizzy or anything, and that is a good thing b/c I do not like nicotine sickness at all.

A heady smoke
For a person not accustomed to va/per blends, this is one intense smoke. For Pete’s sake, DO NOT imbibe on an empty stomach, or, for that matter, on an overly full stomach. On the plus side, it is an immensely satisfying smoke.....hits on all cylinders.

Satisfying smoke
I have heard and read a lot of reviews saying to try it for a few days or week before deciding whether or not to like it. That was true for me. I don't like the smell of perique in a bag or tin of mustiness and this has it. The first couple of bowls seemed awful too. I was going to give up and move on to other blends but by the third bowl it became different. The burley's were buttery, which I haven't tasted in a while with other burley blends, and the perique made a nice spiciness. There are treats of sweetness when you burn some of the virginia, which I wish there was a little more of. Overall, a great a blend and am happy that I stuck to it. I think the intrigue that John Harden of Matches860 put on it definitely led me to try it and glad I did. I only have it in bulk and seems like a great blend, although it seems dry, the first couple of bowls were harder to keep lit. From then on it has been easy smoking. If you like burley blends try this one!

Haunted Bookshop, not for the faint of heart.
This blend is interesting,it's easy to settle into a bowl of this and enjoy it,then without warning it'll grab a hold of you and alert your senses with that wild temptress " Lady Nicotine ". Still you set the bowl down for short rest and fire it up again, wow it has tamed down nice and relaxing smoke then out of the blue, she's back.Seriously it's a great smoke but you have to respect it,easy relaxed cadence and you're good to go,just don't smoke on an empty stomach. Will buy again.

Good stuff if you like burly and strength
A solid smoke. Has it's harsh moments, which I appreciate. All quality tobacco, but the blend could be better blended... some big Virginia flakes and some other chunks could be more evenly distributed. I have actually enjoyed getting a big chunk of whichever in a bowl full. Makes it a different taste for that bowl. Not for the faint of heart. If you enjoy burly and like a strong nic hit, this will hit the spot. The small amount of perique is perfect, tingles at just the right times, but hides out in the blend well.

My Guy's Opinion on the Haunted Bookshop
I have to be honest, I'm not a smoker (pipes or otherwise). However, my guy (Bradley) is a pipe smoker. I got the Haunted Bookshop Tobacco for him. He truly love it. So, this is his review..." The flavor is good. Range wise it's in the middle of most tobacco. I usually like tobacco with a lot of latkia in it, but Haunted Bookshop is milder. Nevertheless, I do from time to time find that the Haunted Bookshop is like a good ghost story (one day you're intrigued in the mystery, and the next day you're scared out of your wits). It just depends on your mood the day you smoke it (could be mild one day and the next day strong). Here are my sugguestions to a person that never try the Haunted Bookshop: Try it for a week. A bowl or two a day. This tobacco is good anytime of the day. Then make your finally decision to love it or leave it. In addition, the smell is STRONG the first time you open the container. However, it taste better then it smell. It's have something new each time you smoke it. Just like read a good ghost story. Plus, it have a good room note. So, none smokers are okay with it.

A very good smoke
Have been wanting to try this one for awhile after hearing how good it is and I'm very happy to say it lived up to the hype! I don't have a lot of experience with Burley blends as I have been working through a lot of English types. Haunted Bookshop has a great musty aroma in the bag that really does make you think of old books and it carries that through to the smoke too which the wife and I really enjoyed. The flavor is smooth, buttery, with just a hint of dark fruit flavor from the perique. This is definitely worth stocking up the cellar with and I will be buying more as this will be in my regular rotation.

Solid
I need more time to evaluate (couple more smokes). I can say I was not disappointed and it was a solid smoke.

Very enjoyable blend
It’s a good strong smoke with a spicy bite to it. Tobacco wasn’t dried out, wasn’t overly moist and it came on time. Will definitely be ordering more.

Great Blend
A really good burley blend. You get a good tobacco taste and the perique adds a nice peppery hint. Definitely always going to keep some in the tobacco cellar.

Gonna order more.
It's a sweet smoke with a spicy underbite that'll leave you worried you're smoking too fast. Reminds me of cigars honestly.

Very good!
I prefer Burley Flake #4, but will definitely be buying this again.

Spooky Good!
Loved this entertaining and flavor-filled mixture. I will definitely be making Haunted Bookshop a staple tabak in my rotation.

Outstanding Mixture
C&D: Haunted Bookshop is an absolute must try! A flavor-filled mixture with just enough condiment to live up to the enchanting imagery of it's name.

Tasty
This is a bit more dry than some of the others I've tried. It's a definite favorite.

Excellent blend. Smooth, mild yet memorable.

Great flavor and note
I like strong tobacco, I like the smell of natural flavors and that's all you get here. This is a very straight forward blend that will give you a bit of a punch.

It’s alright, not great.
I didn’t really find a lot of flavor in it. Smokes well and burns good, just stale tasting.

Very good.
This is a very good smoke. Has some spicy characteristics, but it's milder than I expected. Will buy again!

Smoker Beware!
A nuclear nicotine bomb! Maybe I'm nuts, but I find this nicotine stronger than Nightcap. Damn good though, but unless you're on a steady diet of active volcanos, smoke this in the evening on a full stomach. You might have to set it down periodically, or your full stomach might quickly turn empty. Not for newbies or aro lovers.

Haunted bookshop
I use to smoke old Joe kranz. Loved it. Then got a bad 4oz worth. They say its 25% periqe. I don't know. It tasted like sweaty gym socks smell. I've encountered the same with popular vapers. Is it the damn periqe? Won't some either again. But with H.B., which is basically O.J.K. with less periqe. Its strong tobacco. I only smoke it with cocktails and after dinner to unwind. Its now my only nonaromatic I smoke. I've tried many others. Sometimes its hard to get. Its getting popular I think. Great satisfying smoke. Im also a cigar smoker(premiums) I don't think I've smoked a cigar lately that is as satisfying as a bowl of H.B. great flavor, but watch that nic hit. Bought 6 oz the other day. About gone. Have to reorder if I can find it in stock somewhere. Think ill also try some epiphany if I can find it when I reorder.

5 stars if you like burley 1 if otherwise.
Let me say I like, but don’t love this blend. I bought the tin and one oz bulk to compare. It is primarily burley, with Virginia and Perique. I wish it had more of the latter. I expected a VaPer with a higher nicotine content. It has decent moisture, lights well and all of that. Upon lighting, I can taste the VA and per, but halfway through the bowl, it tastes like an ashtray. So I will say if you aren’t a fan of burley leave this one alone. I took my 8-ounce tin and one-ounce bulk and mixed them together. Then I added at least two ounces of VA flake (rubbed well) and one ounce of straight perique. I mixed it well and all of that. Still a heavy cigarette taste halfway in. I have had other blends which contained burley, but I suppose not as much as this one. I presumed I knew what I was getting, but clearly, I misjudged. Finally, in a desperate attempt to salvage this tobacco, I mixed 2 ounces of vintage Virginia (light vanilla and 2 ounces of Frog. It is now reminiscent of a nice English with just enough aro to mask the ashtray. It could take a little more, but you can unmix an aro. So rather than messing up the whole batch, I’m leaving it as is. The only problem now is I have near of a pound of this stuff. 5 stars for quality, but it just wasn’t for me. My lack of experience shouldn’t ding a product with a negative review.

Burley Burley Burley!!!
First off if you’re an aro guy you should probably pick a tamer blend than this before venturing off into the Burley world. This is up front Burley in all it’s nutty greatness. The Virginia and Perique are there only to compliment this fine Burley. I like the full strength end of the rainbow so that wasn’t an issue for me but it may be for others. If you haven’t yet tried Ol Joe Krantz or Big and Burley give those a try as they didn’t seem as strong to me but still had that great Burley flavor. If nicotine is your game give Kendall Kentucky a try as well.

Haunting
Not a fan. Dry and acrid, it tastes like smoking cardboard with a sour aftertaste. Not sure what all the hype is about.

Absolutely Perfect
Really good, potent blend! Nicotine elevated to the max on this one. Very enjoyable flavor. Great in any briar or corn cob. Can't go wrong with Haunted Bookshop!

Little too strong for me. More like a cigarette tobacco perhaps, but that was 45 yrs ago to compare.

Smokes Hot
I was a little disappointed in the fact that I felt it smoked fairly hot. Had almost a bit of burn to my throat when smoking it. I have had four bowls and same thing every time. Not the worst blend, just not for me. Kind of reminded me of an unfiltered cigarette.

Too much like cigarettes
Obviously not a garbage tobacco, and I've come across a lot of people who love it. But for me it was nothing more than the equivalent of smoking an enhanced cigarette in a pipe! Granted, I'm accustomed to aros and now I'm getting into stronger English blends like Nightcap and 965, so anything less is a bit of a disappointment for my pallet. For a few dollars an oz, it's worth exploring, and I'm sure for some, it will be a buried treasure. Just not one I would choose to dig up again.

Fun In A Chair
Strong but not harsh. Somewhat sweet with plenty of body. For fun, obtain a copy of the novel The Haunted Bookshop and smoke the tobacco while reading it. The book is smoker friendly!

Great Burley Whirley!
Haunted Bookshop has become my favorite Burley, Virginia, and Perique blend. The Burley component is outstanding. It's more apparent than the other two ingredients. I like that. Lots of that nutty taste that I like. The Virginia and Perique come through now and then. That's a good thing because I'm a big fan of VaPer blends. The Perique doesn't appear to be overdone, but still gives that occasional tinge towards the bottom of the bowl. Not that that isn't a good thing. The "N" factor is pretty noticeable, but not a killer. As for me, I seem to enjoy this blend in the morning after a cup of coffee, and on an empty stomach. I'll take that outside (I'm in Southern California), especially with some of the Peterson shape 264 shape Canadians I have. Two of them are presently dedicated to Haunted Bookshop. Good satisfying stuff! A happy way to start the day for me.

A Bit of an Adventure
My favorite tobaccos have turned out to be the English/Oriental blends so this was a bit different for me. It's much stronger than I'm used to (not to be smoked on an empty stomach, I'm glad I had breakfast first) but it's a very enjoyable smoke in its own way. The word I hear a lot describing this blend is "peppery" and I can't disagree. Yet it's also oddly cool and has no tongue bite. The flavor isn't overpowering but the N definitely packs a punch. I'd say it's the tobacco equivalent of slamming a couple Red Bulls back to back. It's not something I'd want to smoke every morning, but I'd definitely keep a small supply on hand for those stormy afternoons when I feel like pulling down an old copy of Jules Verne or Sax Rohmer.

Haunted bookshop
This tobacco is a great blend of Virginia's burly and perique. At first you get a sweet taste and then a very full cerialy oatmealy taste this is a great all day smoke and at just the right amount of nicotine. GREAT BLEND!!!!

Belive the hype!
I've seen alot of folks on Facebook groups smoking this blend, but had never tried it. Now I know why it's so popular. It's got a great burley base with alot of perique to back it up, and red Virginias to sweeten it up. This blend is raw tobacco flavor, not very complex but an honest smoke with a good nicotine punch (which I love). Belive the hype, this is a great nonaromatic smoke!

Haunted is Haunted
A very good Burly mixture, but not much complexity here. Just a straight, powerful smoke. Take it easy when puffing on this one. Packs easily, burns completely to ash. Lots of nicotine. Difficult to note the other tobaccos in the blend.

I Love Haunted Bookshop. It's a Winner!
Made me a burley fan! After a long day, this blend being chocked full of vitamin-N will give you a really relaxing experience. Not for the faint of heart! Go easy and let it do it's thing.

Crazy Strong
Not For me, personally. I like full bodied, but this is a whole new category of powerful. I've been smoking for years, and this choked me up, which I rather respected. I didn't much care for it, but if you're into challenges, buy this. Kicks like a jilted lover.

Love it
After hearing so much about this tobacco I just had to try it. It was love at first smoke. I'm a big burley fan and have developed a taste for perique so this tobacco is just what the doctor ordered. For me it's a great smoke to have when relaxing with a good book and a cup of strong coffee. But smoker beware, this tobacco demands respect and should be smoked slowly and in a reasonable amount or else the nicotine kick will have you on the floor heading for the porcelain bus!

aahh. burley
If you love burley, you must try this blend. Slight sweetness from the virginia, just enough pepper from the perique leaves the watery nutty taste of burley very well pronounced.

Best burley
This tobacco has been in my rotation for as long as I've been smoking a pipe. Great flavor and stays lit out without a fuss. It's got the perfect amount of stength , an all day smoke for me. Getting a lb my next order without a doubt!

Good burley blend.
I loved the room note of this blend. The smoke itself was a little heavy on the "cigarette" flavor for me, but it is a good bowl when I need a burley fix

Get ready when lighting pipe for first time
My first bowl after receiving the tobacco was in the morning before eating anything. This was the wrong idea. Waited a couple of days and tried again in afternoon. I'm thinking - like, this isn't bad. After a small bowl I went inside to read and the after taste haunted me - in a good way. Now I look forward to smoking this 'stout stuff' - tis good.

good strong smoke
haunted bookshop has a very good strong taste, made for a pipe not a cigarrette though, which is how i tried smoking it. was just a little too strong for that purpose, but would recommend it for a pipe

Lives up to it's name
I have always enjoyed C&D blends. I decided it was time to try Haunted Bookshop. Upon first light, it had a nice mellow taste, touch of sweetness and a bit of spice. About mid bowl, things changed and the taste turned to...how else to explain it, but a musty old book. It was the strangest thing I have experienced, but have come to enjoy about C&D blends. The only downside with this blend - the "old book" taste doesn't go away or ebb and flow. It sticks there and starts to really taste like chewing on cardboard - or in this case an old book. If you want a really bland blend, then this one is for you.

Haunted Bookshop.
Heard a lot of great reviews on this blend as it has everything I love in a blend. Comes a little drier than most tobaccos but it's best smoked dry. First smoke was cool burning and no tongue bite and smokes to ash all the way down. I'm going to make this my every day blend and I really like the flavors of everything in the blend. Easy to pack and smoke for burly lovers and I enjoy the burly taste.

Great daily... matches well with coffee
Great Burley blend with spicy kick. Comes dry and ready to pack. Burns quick and cool; billows out lots of white smoke. May strike a familiar taste, feel and smell to ex-cigarette smokers. Great daily, works well with a cup of coffee.

Spicy, bold, flavorful goodness.
This is one heck of a good blend if you like a spicy treat with a nicotine punch. Love this. I plan on buying plenty of this to have on hand!

Worth a try.
I saw this and decided to give it a try. The first oz. that I ordered was dry, and I do mean dry. I added a little sprinkling of water to it to moisten it up and it packed much better. I liked it enough to give it a second try and ordered a second oz. This one arrived a little more moist but still a little on the dry side for my personal choice. I really enjoy the flavor as it seems mild and tastes good. I can definitely tell there is Perique in it. If, like me, you puff on a pipe and then cycle it through your nose (I don't purposely inhale) then the Perique really comes to the front. I found that in a regular size bowl this tends to burn hot. I got no tongue bite at all, but it was definitely hot. Until I loosened up the pack, it was hard to keep lit. Once I broke up the way I packed the bowl it stayed lit with no real problems. This is one I will have to play with to get it right. Of course everyone's experience and technique vary so you may have better luck than I did with this. Would I recommend this? Yes, it has a good flavor and produces a nice thick smoke which I really like.

Strong and simple with great flavor. One of my two daily favorites. I can't ever seem to get enough of this stuff.

Not a bad blend. It has more grassy virginia than nutty burley. Very smooth and mild. A good one to keep in your rotation for a change from stronger blends.

This blend has very mixed reviews on tobaccoreviews.com. I actually ordered this because I wanted to try a true burley blend renowned by some on youtube. My first bowl left my mouth dry and not much flavor...now my second bowl I had moments ago was extremely satisfying. A nice earthy dry flavor with spice and a pinch of sweetness. I found it smoked best in a small chruchwarden. Give this a try - I found myself craving it every now and again. Sweet Smokes! - Matt
