Cornell & Diehl New Market

New Market, from Cornell & Diehl, is a unique semi-aromatic blend. A 50/50 mixture of bright, sweet Virginia and mellow, unflavored black Cavendish if finished by the addition of a time-honored ingredient - Deer Tongue. This herb adds a very unusual spicy, vanilla-like flavor and aroma that will instantly bring back memories of old-time pipe tobaccos.

An unusual favorite
Being tired of the typical English or Va/Per blends I came across this very different blend. I have never tried a tobacco with the Deertongue added and I must say I love it! It is listed as an 'aromatic' but it is different kind of aromatic without the over-the-top flavoring. The taste that the Deertongue adds reminds me of the smell of walking through the tall grass on the farm as a child. There is a slightly sweet earthiness about it. Very unique!

Worth a try!
A decent introduction to Deer Tongue. Thought the blend was light and flavorful, although a bit dry for my taste. Sweet Cavendish mingled with the minty vanilla of the deer tongue and the Virginia gives it a bit of zest. My daughter said the smoke smelled like vanilla cupcakes. Not something I would smoke regularly, but a nice alternative if you're in the mood.

New Market
If you haven't tried a Deer Tounge blend you owe it to yourself to give one a shot. This herb has been described as a Vanilla minty type of taste and I could agree with that, it is unique and adds a nice flavor. The only reason for the 4 star is I prefer Crooner over New Market due to the cut and being easier to light, and the Deer Tongue seemed to be of a lesser quality (mostly stems) compared to other DT blends. However, this is a great blend that is colorful and something different.

Now that smells like a pipe!
I had never tried a blend with deertoung before this one, The mythic herb that may or may not be outlawed. The old pros I've talked to always seemed to have had it included in their once upon a blends of their past brick and mortar stories. I had to try some. I settled on this blend. Half burley half Cavendish and a dash of that sweet grass. I was worried when I cracked open my shipment. The aroma covered my full bodied Lat blends. I was sure I was going to choke on this sweet blend. Not so. This blend is what i always wanted an aromatic to taste like when i first started in on the pipe, but i could never find the right tobacco so I moved on. But this aroma, tin and room note, i keep going back to it. It's pleasant. I think of my grandfather smoking his pipe before I was born, his old pipes ghosted with this scent, and the sparse memories of my dad smoking a pipe. I welcome any memory of these great men into my mind. C&D keeps hitting it out of the park for me. I tried my first bowl of this while I was gardening with my wife. She turned to me and said, "now that smells like a pipe!" Try this one

Very dry tobacco
I recently ordered some C&D Winchester, New Market and Scotty's University Dean. They must have been the bottom of the barrel cause they came dry as dust. I complained to P&C and they made good by shipping me other stock. The QC needs to be upgraded so customers get what they expect.

Cornell & Diehl New Market
This new blend is a complete and welcome surprise! Upon receiving the 2 oz. packet, I inspected the blend by first smelling the aroma it has and checking out the appearance of the blend. The nose was intrigued, not too sweet, and the component tobaccos were large cube cut. I selected an amount sufficient for one of my larger bowled pipes and after rubbing out the cubes a bit packed it and lighted it. I was looking forward to the deer tongue, which adds a most delightful herbal undertone, but I wondered if this concoction would work. I found the combination most remarkable in flavor and consistency. The flavors were unique and most satisfying. I would not describe this as an aromatic tobacco blend. Yet it does have a natural sweetness that is enhanced by the deer tongue. It is a high quality, masterfully blended selection that keeps drawing you back for another bowl. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
