Cornell & Diehl Night Train

Cornell & Diehl Night Train is an excellent illustration of the Va/Bur/Per genre, with three different types of Virginia combined with some stout and earthy Burley, capped off with tangy, robust Perique. This mixture is pressed into a crumble cake to deepen and mature the flavors. If you're a little bored with the typical VaPer or Burley blend, try C&D's Night Train.

A surprising good blend.
I bought a 16 OZ vacuum sealed bag of Night Train two years ago. I was so impressed that I bought another 16 OZ bag shortly afterwards. I cut the slabs into 2" biscuits, and put them into quart mason jars to age. I kept a couple of biscuits out as a benchmark, and enjoyed them fresh. I opened up the first jar a week ago, and time has worked its magic on the biscuits. They have darkened a good bit, and they have retained a perfect moisture content. The tobacco has sweetened up significantly, and smoothed out considerably. I've been enjoying Night Train in one of my gourd Calabash pipes, and it is a magnificent smoke. It's extremely well behaved, taking and holding a light very well. The only relights were when I took a little break. It's a two hour smoke in my Calabash. The ash is the finest and whitest that I have ever seen. It's fine, like moon dust, and bone white. This indicates a very high quality leaf was used in the blend. It is a very tasty blend, and gets even better with age. I still have the majority of it aging in jars. I can't wait to see how it goes with even more age on it. Try some, and I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Great perique flavor with a
Great perique flavor with a good amount of burly for a nice deep flavor. The Virginia's just Balance it and the Cavendish gives body and overall body to the smoke. Very good blend to keep around. The cake is great too.

Not what I expected
This is a great tobacco, generally I am plagued with tongue bite (My Fault) but this is a mellow great tasting tobacco that I really enjoy. I have stocked up on this hopefully I left some for all of you guys. This is worth your attention.

A delightful smoke!
I purchased the 16 ounce bad of Night Train, and I'm really happy that I did. Mine arrived already 9 months old (as per the date sticker on the package). It was in perfect condition, ready to smoke. The humidity level was spot on perfect. It was a very compressed brick, that I cut into 2 inch squares with a box cutter. The whole pound fit into a one quart mason jar. This is a very satisfying smoke, and has a unique complexity. It's much richer than a straight Virginia flake or a Navy flake. Smoked slowly, it delivers a cool delicious and satisfying smoke that's hard to beat. It burns well, requiring minimal relights, and leave little to no dottle. This will be one of my regular smokes, I'm ordering another pound so I have plenty to age. Two thumbs up, highly recommended!
