Cornell & Diehl Small Batch Sansepolcro

The latest entry in Cornell & Diehl's Small Batch Series is Sansepolcro, and it uses a singular type of leaf to create a one-of-a-kind experience.
The base of the blend is matured red Virginia, mated to a dark-fired tobacco from Italy. These small florets have a significant impact on the flavor, giving it a unique character. The toasty and citrus elements of the Virginia, along with a bit of stewed fruit, combine beautifully with the earthy, smoky and floral tones coming from the Italian leaf. This is a robust tobacco, ideal for the after-dinner pipe.

I like the flavor of
I like the flavor of this tobacco. I am a Virginia tobacco smoker and this tobacco has just the right blends to make it not to sweet when you want a different taste. The aroma both in the tin and the room notes are nice and not bothersome.

Excellent Blend
One of the very best blends out there. The Italian dark fired tobacco in this blend isn't as bold as most American varieties, but it brings a subtle, molasses-like sweetness along with the expected (albeit subdued) smoky notes- which is pretty refreshing. On top of that, it contains Cornell and Diehl's famous Carolina red Virginia crop, which is an amazing tobacco all on its own. It compliments the dark fired tobacco by introducing a rich, fruity sweetness and lending it a tea-like aroma. While I'm not necessarily a pipe blend expert (I'm more into cigars), this probably ranks in the top 3 I've tried so far. My only complaint is that the sweetness might be a little overbearing for some, especially if you're smoking more than 2 bowls in one sitting. But that's to be expected for a blend this rich, and there's a lot more going on than just a sugary sweetness. I highly recommend it, especially given both its limited availability and that it isn't priced much differently from dozens of mediocre blends. As for the moisture content, it's smokable with very little (if any) drying time, at least to my taste. It's very well presented, and lacks the ugly warning label that comes on the other tobaccos I order here. Overall, very little to complain about and a lot to enjoy!

Quite strong in flavour but
Quite strong in flavour but with plenty of nuances. Really compliments a cup of coffee so for all its punch I like it for a breakfast smoke. If your looking for something different for when your regular smoke leaves you flat this is a great one to refresh the pallet. It has a little sourness like a cranberry or gooseberry type note and a cacao impression.

Get it while you can
Incredible smoke, strong but not hard to smoke. It's a shame this is only a limited product.

Definitely Worth A Try
Does anybody remember that distinct smell of the old McClelland tobaccos? Some called it "steak sauce." As most people do, I cracked open the tin and within a second or two I had my nose buried in the tobacco and took in a deep whiff... and WOW!! I had flashbacks to some of my favorite McClelland Virginias! I'm not saying this is a replacement but what a good aroma this tobacco has. It boasts a dark Italian blend with Red Virginias. It is a broken flake that packs well and burns cool to a fine ash. I have to say that I hope I can get some more. Each can was numbered which I suppose is to emphasize its limited nature. Also, it was priced very good. I think it was just over $11 for a 2 oz tin. Overall this was a good VA based tobacco.

Good rare blend
First time trying this blend and bought a couple tins, one to try and one to store. I have smoked through a little over half of the tin and thought it a good idea to write the review. This stuff is good. Not blow you away good but has a nice mellow flavor and is light for hot summer days. Not a lot of sweetness from the Virginia tobacco and you have to really like oriental tobaccos because that is mostly what you will taste. If you like orientals, I would recommend this because it is good and not overly pricey for a rare tobacco blend.

A fresh look at something classic is what it's like.
Cinnamon in a light way throughout. It's fresh and optimally hydrated in the packaging but just right and not moistened. I really like it!
