Cornell & Diehl Super Balkan

A straight forward blend. Nice and smokey. Plenty of latakia but not to much. It's one of them winter time blends. No tongue bite and stays lit. Burns down to a fine white ash. Really well balanced and a great everyday smoke. I definitely will buy more.

Very cool smoking. Flavor last till the end. One of the best of the Balkans I have smoked so far.

A smooth and mellow English smoke, but not as tasty as Proper English 52.

Tobacco is just like that. Sometimes by itself you don't get much out of it...but blended together it turns on. Heavily. Don't go Stupid with this - Some tobacco needs to be blended to activate. This is the blend - I'm giving it to you. DON'T DRIVE either with this. DON'T OPERATE HEAVY MACHINERY. By itself it might not be much, but blended it works. Turns on Activates whatever - right now i'm in BED. Trying to type this. Equal Parts 2 parts Smooth 1- 1/2 part Super Balkan 1 part Sweet Coffee might not work at first, but Coffee helps after a while.

It's a really good buy for the price. I like to blend this tobacco with a little Latakia for a great smoke.

Tobacco loads well, lights and burns well plus has a full rich taste w/o tongue burn. Would recommend.

A nice alternative to my regular English blends. A good kick of pepper is tamed by the perique and a heavy hit of latakia rounds off this daily smoke of old fashioned goodness.

Great Balkan

This blend is one of the best Balkan/Oriental pipe tobaccos I've tried in some time. It is nicely aromatic with a wonderful flavor (almost "fruity" with spicy notes). And it smokes smoothly with no harshness in my mouth and on my tongue. It reminds of blends that were imported from England, Scotland, and Ireland prior to the 1990s but are sadly gone now. It's worth giving this C&D Balkan blend a try!

Flavor is very unique. First time trying this sort of blend as I was in search for something that had more of a fuller smoke. I can see this working well as a blend into other blends but it seems to just lack a bit of dimension in the flavor on its own for me.

This stuff is absolutely delicious. For when you want a full English but with the volume turned down a little, Super Balkan is the ticket. Can't complain about that price, either. Perfect moisture right out of the bag. What can I say? This stuff is like diet Ashton Artisans Blend. The tangy orientals seem to be more present here, but I think that might just be because there's less of a latakia concentration here. Overall, I dig it. And will be buying a few more ounces. This stuff shines on the retrohale, FWIW.

I've only recently started smoking straight blends. I liked latika and wanted a blend that had a good lat kick. I tried C/D Mountain Camp and loved it! I was amazed how the combination of just straight can give you such wonderful flavors without the additives that are used on Aro's. I decided to try another lat blend and decided on S/B. I was not disappointed absolutely love this blend smoky lat is wonderful and the other tobaccos add a citrusy sweetness. If you want to try a stronger blend give this a shot. The Mountain Camp is a little lighter blend than this but just as delicious.

I've been looking a bulk Balkan blend and some fellow pipers suggested this. And they were not wrong. This is good stuff! Burns well, has a consistent flavor. Moves from mild to medium as you progress. Might not be an all-day smoke but it's flavor will definitely warrant repeat smokes.

Does anyone else find this wonderful blend quite similar to early morning pipe?

I don't know if we are allowed to mention other customers and their reviews by name so I'll just give a shout-out to the gent that said he favored this blend in a cob. Absolutely right. I had a couple bowls in clean briars and it was, OK, pretty good, let me let it age a bit, moving on. Today I loaded up a beat up legend I've been trying to smoke a hole thru for ages and wow! Everything I like was still there, the smoky latakia but something was different. Maybe the perique in the cob? I don't know but I got this warm, toasty, nutty flavor and it is just fantastic. Thanks pipe brother.

Very well balanced smoke. Latakia up front with perique eaising it's way in the back. Neither is over powering, but have their own unique place. For me, this is perfect in a cobb pipe and tasted better than my briars. It may just be my taste, but much prefer this in a cobb. I didn't have any dry time with my batch. It was perfect.

I have grown fond of bolder, full flavored smokes. This is no exception!

Nice English blend - smooth, no bite, burns cool. Can easily smoke all day.

Whoa talk about good. Latakia is out front with perique coming in second. But what really makes it shine is a good pressing. Squeeze it until it turns dark, let it dry out a bit, and you’ve really got something special. It’s a pain but it’s worth it.

This is great. The latakia and perique come out bold. this is a great smoke you don't have to think about. You can smoke this as you hang out and have a conversation with people because you don't have to think about the flavors. They are there in the foreground. However, nothing is very overhwelming. It's put together very well.

Super Balkan by C&D became an immediate favorite when I first tried a small sample of it order before last. For that reason I ordered a good supply of it on my most recent order. I love Cyprus Latakia and this blend really delivers on that. The Bright Virginia Flake balances this beautifully and creates a synergistic harmony that is further enhanced by the condiment tobaccos used. The other thing I really love about this formulation is the way it consistently delivers on nicotine. Truly an excellent blend in every way for my taste!

[Tin/bag - Nice and campfire smokey with a little of the new tire smell. A little note of sweet browness. Some serious flake kinda ground into this. Pulled a little piece of intact flake (1/8"x1/4"). So, a little rub here and there for any chunkiness, but not so much needed really. Moisture excellent and ready to be fired up.] Rich, smooth, full, reminds of Stokkebye/Arango Balkan Supreme right away, has a little less of the full mouthfeel roundedness to it, and maybe the Latakia is very subtley more sharp by contrast with the Latakia more prominent, but not a bomb. Some enjoyably slight nose tingle pepperiness on the retro that Arango does not have. A little sweetness rolls out here and there with good fullness too. Additionally, seems a bit more Periquey than Arango (do not think Arango has any), which is a nice difference. Easy burning with little relights down to a small amount of ash at the end. Fairly cool burning, but I did get a little hot in the bowl while fast paced puffing and searching out flavors. Instant relight if you let it burn out. No management issues at all. Not a biter, but keep a finger to the bowl if you start freight training, which for me was very tempting. Full of flavor to the end - Great stuff! I might have to let prices guide me between re-purchases Arango Balkan Supreme or CD Super Balkan, but I surely expect to keep a pound handy, also both are very well priced entirely. This one will go on the re-order a pound or two more list for the future.

So i'm comparing Super Balkan,Crowley's best,Fiddlesticks,Balkan Supreme,Billy Budd,Mountain Camp,Big & Burley and Byzantium against Dunhill Nightcap. In the order I mentioned. As an English, I find Super Balkan to be very smooth an all day smoke for me. Nightcap still #1 for me. I'm not going into the taste and aroma, I feel everyone has their own sense and taste, but as the Three reviewers have mentioned, this has a very good English feel to it, Smooth and Mellow not to much Nic.

Super Balkan is an incredible blend. My daily smoker. Medium bodied, Smokey, with just a slight sweetness about midway into the bowl.. pairs perfectly with a cup of dark roast coffee. If you are a fan of peppery, Smokey English blends give a super Balkan a try!

This balkan blend is good enough. I am always looking to finally find something that will curl my toes. This is not a toe curler, but it is a good blend.

I found this blend to be very smooth and full on the flavors in the smoke. Definitely latakia forward which I like. It is a nice medium strength tobacco, great for a late afternoon smoke
