Daughters & Ryan Ryback

The Ryback blends are fine cut tobaccos using the dark and dark-fired leaf for bold flavor and rich body; very reminiscent of some Dutch-style tobaccos. These high-quality Ryback tobaccos provide a superb taste and aroma that is consistent in every bag of each well-balanced blend.

Ryback Regular is a hearty and robust shag cut, utilizing the bold flavor and body of a dark-fired leaf.

Ryback Gold consists of the same dark-fired tobacco as Ryback Regular but is lightened up a bit by adding a shag cut Virginia for sweetness.

Get these quality Ryback blends at an unbeatable price at P&C, and I’m sure you’ll be back for more.

Came in pretty dry. Am bringing up the moisture now. Snuck in an early smoke and wasn't bad, but will improve when the level gets up a bit.

Campfires, barbeque, smoky woods
This Ryback regualr is probably my favorite of the four D&R products I tried. The Dark Fired aroma it gives off is so strong I had to put the bag in a box and the box in a drawer or it would fill the room. Honestly it smells like high quality BBQ potato chips. When it's burning, though, it really doesn't smell that way-- just rich and leathery and delicious but with a little edge to it that the others I ordered this round didn't have, which is why I think I liked it the best for regular smoking. Will order again but curious also about the Gold version.

Great smoke, love the shag
Great smoke, love the shag cut. Packs perfect in my Decatur pipe.

Too "smoky" for my taste
This tobacco smells and tastes like cigarette smoke. I thought it was terrible. Not smooth at all. Would not recommend. I gave it to a friend who loved it. Not my cup of tea though.

Follow up to “Smokey, leathery, luxurious.”
This is a follow up review. In my previous review I mentioned Ryback’s smokey and leathery profile, and how it reminded me of top-shelf cigarettes. Since that time I have dedicated a briar exclusively to this blend. In doing so, the smokes have become richer and more complex. The tobacco has developed a deep, dark, rich, honey-like sweetness. This blend is truly superb and has become my regular smoke. 5 strong stars.

Well, it's no Bali Shag.
I've been looking for a good, relatively inexpensive substitute for Bali or Drum for hand rolling. Ryback Regular is pretty good, but not great. I like the cut. It's not quite as shaggy as I'm used to, but it works fine. Easy to roll. It burns well. I have some Gambler here that I'm trying to slowly work my way through. It seems to want to either burn down one side of the cigarette only, or just stop burning completely. Also it tastes like dirt. The Ryback Regular burns evenly and stays lit. Izz beddy beddy gud. The smell/flavor throws me off a bit, though. Smells pretty strongly like BBQ. It's not unpleasant, just weird. After about a week now, I'm still not really used to it. I've also been trying some Ryback Gold, which has less of that BBQ thing going on, and it's a pretty huge improvement, imo. I'll definitely be ordering more Gold in the future. Anyway, the tobacco is very good quality, regardless of my palate. I plan to try more D&R blends.

Smokey, leathery, luxurious
I was concerned this tobacco would taste too much like cigarettes. It does: premium, top shelf quality cigarettes. This blend burns dry with minimal relights. It does not bite (and I have a very sensitive tongue). This has become my favorite, I find myself craving it throughout the day. A job well done to Mark Ryan and team! Smoked through a Big Ben, saddle-bit billiard.

Daughters & Ryan Ryback Gold
I like the regular better then the gold, but the gold was not bad at all. The flavor of the regular was stronger which i like more. Daughters & Ryan have very good products don't be afraid to give them a try.

I tried Ryback in a tin for the first time and I love it. However I've had to order it from another site because it is back ordered on P&C.

Ryback Gold: Great in a Cigarette and Pipe
Since I am a cigarette smoker who is transitioning to pipe, I really appreciate this no-nonsense blend. Because of the shag cut, this blend is great to roll, but it is also great in the pipe. If you smoke it in a pipe though, smoke it slowly. Because of the shag cut, the pipe can get hot, and if you smoke it too fast, the tobacco will start to taste more like a cigarette. The Vit-N level changes, of course, if you roll it or smoke it in a pipe. In a pipe, it's pretty comparable to other brands that use Kentucky. If you smoke it as a cigarette, the Vit-N is much more prominent. If you are concerned about the Vit-N, I would suggest getting the Ryback Gold to make the smoker milder. The Virginias also make the smoke just a tad bit sweeter.

Smoother than drum
Use to be a fan of drum. Ryback regular is by far a better choice. Nice shag. Loved the tin. Good temp to roll and enjoy.

Excellent pipe tobacco
I use it to mix with tobacco that is a too moist to smoke, it works great by it's self also. I will buy D & R tobacco again.

Dark, Smokey and Strong
When I smoke this in my briar, each puff begins with a fine, smooth, nutty flavor which I'm guessing comes from the burley. This is quickly followed by a robust and smokey woodiness which is undoubtedly from the generous portion of dark fired kentucky. It's similar to that of hickory smoked barbecue. Sometimes there is a bit of noticeable sweetness, but it definitely takes a back seat to the nuts and smokiness. This is a very easy tobacco to keep lit. If anything, it can sometimes burn a bit quickly, as it comes quite dry and is cut to a very fine ribbon. It also doesn't mess around in the N department, so I find that a tighter pack and a nice, relaxed cadence will do one very well for this style of tobacco. This is also excellent to add in with a bowl of something you like the flavor of, but wish to add a bit of strength to. It will give it much more heft and body. Like turning up the bass in music. Overall this is an honest, very satisfying, no-nonsense dark fired blend. Highly recommended.
Customer Testimonials
I used to smoke Marlboro Gold and this Ryback Gold was too strong for me. I prefer Windsail Platinum for smoothness.
Ryback Gold is not a very strong tobacco, which made it perfect for a late morning, 30 minute smoke with a little bit of coffee. I like it. But would I purchase it again? I'm not sure. Nothing really stood out for me. It has a reminiscence of just a cigarette, but perhaps this would be better suited for blending into an aromatic for a tobacco flavor boost. I recommend it, but personally, it's not my favorite. Some may bellow "Gold medal right here!", but I'm not one of those souls.
Excellent full flavored taste. Not harsh at all. Fine cut. Way less costly than many other tobaccos that are often not as good as this one. I don't find the D&R Ryback Regular taste to be overpowering at all. Try Picayune from D&R to experience what very strong tobacco is all about. You'll run back to the more even taste of Ryback!
I was pleasantly surprised by Ryback Regular. It is a very good bargain for the price. If you are a fan of full bodied Burleys and Dark Fired leaf then give this a try. The only thing I can fault it on is the fact that as you get to the bottom half of the bowl you need to sip lightly to avoid the bitterness that often comes in dark cured tobaccos. But for the price I can't hold that against D&R. I will definitely add this to my rotation and order more.
Daughters & Ryan keep amazing me with the quality of the products they offer and even more so at the price they do it at. I have tried both Ryback and Ryback Gold. The former is a wonderful hearty blend of Burley and dark fired leaf. While it has substance it is not harsh or overpowering by any means. The Gold offers just a nice hint of sweetness and balance brought forward by the virginia leaf blended into the mix. This is one of my morning blends I look forward to with a nice cup of coffee. This also would be a blend that I could imagine being smoked around a campfire as Officers reviewed the movent of troops during the civil war. Just a good 100% natural offering in either blend that would be a wonderful addition to your smoking rotation and can be enjoyed any time of the day or night. D & R keep up the great work.
I love the taste and the incredible aroma but I am not man enough to handle the nicotine content. I am enjoying it by filling half the pipe with Cube Cut Burley and the other half with Ryback.
