Dobie's Four Square - English

John Cotton’s No. 1 was my favorite for a long time, but Dobie 4 Square has become my go to!

I was astonished at the tin note on opening this my first trial of 4 Square English. It has a high note that stands out, not quite floral, almost like citrus, but similar, very hard to describe precisely. If it were not for that it would be like quite a few other good Balkan blends, although the more I try, the more surprised I am at the various interpretations, all of them excellent. This might even bump my favourite Sasieni down one position to 3rd place. Yes, I know it says ENGLISH but its awfully like Balkan Sobranie, perhaps even better, its that elusive high note that does the trick! In simple language this is a very satisfying smoke, I really enjoy it and will certainly order more. It doesn't burn, it stays lit and the amount of smoke per puff is just right.

Probably the second most well-blended English blend out there. Has plenty of Latakia flavor, but does not get hot and unsmokeable like P.S. proper English or Lane’s Crown Achievement does about halfway through. In my opinion second only to spc plum pudding.

Not a typical English blend. It has Virginia and Latakia but the normal oriental or Turkish component is replaced by Burley and black Cavendish. The smell in the can is smoky molasses. Burns hotter than most English blends but did not bite. It's not bad but it's not what I'm looking for in an English blend. I can't imagine smoking this all day. Give me my Dunhill Standard Mixture any day. You might like it if you like your English a little nutty and sweet.

With Dunhill discontinuing it’s pipe tobacco, I been looking for something like Nightcap. So far this is the closest tonit. If you like English tobacco this is a keeper

hi bought is it the same time I bought John cotton Smyrna and I'll be honest with you I really can't tell you which one I like the best they are both excellent tobacco in fact I've read ordered both of them but the English is one that's going to be on my reorder list I highly recommend it

Reminds me of an old favorite Balkan Sobranie, but a little milder, well-named - very English with no added flavorings. Mellow, unobtrusive, doesn't require re-lighting. Smokes right down to dry ash, no residue. Perfect.
