I can’t prove it but I believe these pipes got their name for those of us who want to have a smoke just "on a lark". With a fairly small bowl design, compared to other models, the Lark Pipes provide a quick, cool, pleasing puff-ability. 6mm Filter pipe
Please note: Dr. Grabow Pipes are delivered in assorted dozens, so you may not get the exact pipe pictured.
Don't let the small bowl fool you. This pipe stays cool and draws really well. I don't have to commit to an hour long smoke if I don't want and the filter suits my needs perfectly as I enjoy aromatics. I'm a bit of a newbie but this pipe paired with Lane BCA and Sutliff Vanilla Custard are my current favorite combos. I got the straight smooth lark and only differs from the picture in that the top rim of my bowl is squared off not rounded. All in all a great pipe that I really enjoy. I see a bent rusticated lark coming into the stable in the foreseeable future.
I inherited my Lark from my grandfather. This thing has withstood the test of time, 3 generations worth of smoking. Hard to beat that. While not expensive or fancy, this is the crowning jewel of my collection due to nostalgia. Its small enough to use at leisure, but can lend itself to a extended contemplative smoke. love it.
Briar broke when I was pulling the shank out. Be warned, the wood that goes around the shank is VERY weak. Happened the first day I got it.. other than that, smokes nice, doesn't require much break in.
It's actually named for the Studebaker Lark. Many Grabows were named for cars, such as the Eldorado (Cadillac), the Regal and Riviera (Buick), the Starfire (Oldsmobile), the Viscount (Dodge), and the Savoy (Plymouth). Fine pipes though.
Perfect for purpose. I keep one at work while my pricey, nice collection of Savenillis stay at home. If the Grabow gets lost, broken, no biggie. It is also a fine little pipe and smokes very nicely.
I am hard on my pipes and so, don't have a collection of expensive ones to beat up. The Dr. Grabow pipes are perfect for me. They are inexpensive and hold up well to rough usage. When I eventually crack the stem, it is no great loss. I also like the small bowl of the Lark line. I prefer short smokes to longer ones. For my needs, the Grabow Larks very good pipes. As for dealing with Pipes & Cigars, it is always a pleasure. My orders arrive promptly and as ordered. If there is to be a delay of any kind, they are quick to let the customer know. I highly recommend them.
