Dunhill Dark Flake

Dunhill Dark Flake is back! Dunhill Flake's bolder brother is once again available and offers a wonderful option for those who enjoy fuller-bodied, matured Virginias with a measure of zesty Perique. The brown and mahogany-colored flakes are easy to prepare in whatever method suits you. There's a dark fruit sweetness to the tin note, along with hints of hay and tea. The flavor boasts a natural, toasty sweetness with tea, honey and a touch of white pepper. The flavor is richer than most Virginias, and the aroma is mellow and pleasant. But this is not a beginner's blend. It is best enjoyed after a hearty meal when you have time to truly relax.

My favorite Vaper blend
This is smooth enough for me to consider it an all-day blend. A taste of fruity hay with a lingering taste of unsweetened southern tea. It also carries a slight peppery note on the lips giving an interesting smoke without being baroque.

Let it dry a bit
Great tobacco! Robust full flavor, like eating a fresh double chocolate brownie. Just a little wet right out of the tin. Toss up the leaves a little and let dry for eight hours, then it will be perfect. 100% going to be ordering more for my cellar.

The usual excellence from Dunhill (sigh...)
Awesome flake, fresh tasting and a bit dark, just as the label says. Highly comparable to Comoy's Cask #4 - "Stand Fast Navy."

A stellar smoke from start to finish
I'm not going to compare this to the regular Dunhill flake because, in my mind, they're apples and oranges as far as taste goes. This pipe tobacco rubs out nicely into sightly smaller pieces than the average virginia flake and packs nicely. Despite perhaps a higher than average tin moisture content, the leaf lights very easily and stays lit quite well. No drying necessary for my liking. The room note of the tobacco is a bold, yet very well rounded red/ orange virginia smokiness. The subtle sweetness comes through on the palate along with the savory bready-ness that one associates with yellow virginias. The virginia tobaccos are the star of the show here, as this is the most tactfully-subtle addition of perique I've ever experienced. Definitely enough to even things out and give a mild nicotine dose, but certainly not enough to give that sometimes unpleasant mouthfeel. If you're looking for a more robust virginia flake that wont knock you out or get "ashey" towards the bottom of the bowl, this is the one. I'd recommend breath smoking/ sipping this one.

Top Shelf Flake.
Smooth, mellow, sophisticated. This sets the standard for medium Virginia flakes. Perique content is exacto-mundo!

Great Smoke
First time smoking a flake of any kind. This was very good wish it came in bulk. Got to have more of it.

A cut above the Holy Grail.
If Dunhill Flake is the holy grail of VA flake tobaccos, which it is to me, then this approaches the pure nirvana. Tin note is similar to D.F. flavor is deeper, sweet Virginia without the acidity from the citrus notes.

Schreck''s chair
For those who want more depth than the standard flake this is a good one. A little stronger than the standard flake but not overwelming. I like the amount of peri questions ratio. A good evening smoke before bed. I'll definitely buy more.

Flaky goodness
I love a good flake, and this is excellent! It is dark, sweet, and rich. If a symphony were playing, this would be the lower brass, larger strings, and the deeper woodwinds combined - refined,

5* plus
This is really special once you tame yourself, light it slowly and DON'T freight train it. Far better than Dunhill Luxury Rolls and that says a lot because Luxury rolls are a 5* so Dark Flake is off the scale
