Dunhill Early Morning

Dunhill Early Morning Pipe is one of the true classics. This blend starts with golden and red flue-cured tobaccos which are matured under pressure while heat is applied, deepening the flavor. Choice Oriental tobaccos are added for spice, and just enough Latakia is incorporated to give the blend a smokiness, with a hint of leather.

Light, yet full bodied.
A lot of English blends, my favorite smoke, are a bit heavy. While I like these during the day sometimes they seem just too strong for good enjoyment early in the AM. This tobacco blend, however, is just right for an enjoyable smoke in the morning.

Good to go!
Just an all around great tasting, burning, fragrant English, that, is just plain old good smoking. It seems well rounded, with a room note that has all the elements working for it, another winner, OL chap!

Great early morning smoke with coffee
This is my favorite tobacco. I read all the positive reviews and looked forward to trying it. My first bowl disappointed me. I was not impressed with the flavor or aroma....I had been smoking aromatics before this and it was not what I expected. Then I started to smoke it with my morning coffee and immediately fell in love with it. It is a fantastic, mild non-aromatic tobacco for first thing in the morning. Paired with coffee it is exceptional. I started to load it in my pipes for an all day smoke and I keep a large pipe of it handy all day, puffing at it off and on as I work. I highly recomment trying it. After dinner, is switch to one of my favorite, bolder, sweeter aromatic tobaccos but this is my go-to smoke all day long. I now order it by the pound and keep plenty on hand.

It grew on me
At first I wasn't too impressed with this blend, or so I thought. I find myself packing this into my pipe with increasing frequency, and have come to enjoy its boldness and simplicity.

This tobacco has an amazing flavor with a bold cup of coffee as a support to it. i just got the sampler pack and had to give this one a try first. If the others are as good as this one this will be a normal smoke for me

Good Experience
This was my second time dabbling in English tobacco and it was great. My first time, two years ago was bad. Not sure what I smoked but the whole concept of the tobacco was so different then the cavendish I was used to. I smoked this out of a Missouri Meerschaum which gave me a sweet earthy campfire experience.

Great way to start the day!
I really wanted to test this tobacco and it's name... So I slipped outside before having breakfast to see how it might affect me on an empty stomach. (Something I normally wouldn't attempt) I wasn't disappointed! This really is a mellow blend that doesn't pack a strong nicotine punch. I actually felt rather refreshed after my early morning smoke. I like this blend a lot!

English style smoking bliss!
Dunhill really knows how to make terrific blends.Been smoking this early blend because I enjoyed the nightcap blend.Early morning has all the fllavors I enjoy in an English blend without being to strong.Nice mellow hay like flavor with the perfect balance of Latakia. This blend is pure luxury smoking for me,no wonder it's an all time classic.

Reminds me of early mornings in the yard.
This is a light English smoke. I've been enjoying smoking this in the mornings, as it reminds me of when we use to burn the hay and leafs in the morning here in Texas. Nice light smoky taste with a slight hint of sweet leather.

A Great Way Wake Up
Dunhill's Early Morning is aptly named. It's a medium bodied traditional English blend that will go very well with your morning coffee. Those who are accustomed to English blends could smoke it all day without difficulty. It has a fine cut which makes it easy to light and easy to keep lit. Highly recommended.

Introbto latakia
My first delve into the world of latakia and im very pleased. Smooth smoke with a mild leathery, smokey, tobacco flavor. A good intro to latakia which im surprised I liked. Very strong smelling but pleasant smoking. I purchased this along with My Mixture 965 and Nightcap. Looking forward to trying the others. Actually Nightcap makes me nervous...lol

Perfect in the morning
I had been smoking aromatic tobaccos for quite a while, then saw this English style with a lot of good reviews and decided to try it. My first impression was that it was very mild and I was someone disappointed. As I smoked more of it though, it grew on my rapidly. It has a wonderful complex flavor and aroma with many subtle layers to it. It has become my favorite early morning tobacco. I smoke it every morning with a cup of coffee and I dislike being without the tobacco in the morning as much as I would dislike starting my day without a cup of joe. Mild enough for a larger pipe, and to smoke all morning if you have the time. I still prefer something stronger or an aromatic in the evening, but this is my go to in the morning. Love it.

Very nice tobacco & a great price!
Very smooth/easy and relaxing tobacco. Not a real strong bite or aftertaste (which I personally prefer) and it has a good, continuous burn. I don't have to keep lighting it a hindered times. Smells great! The tin keeps it sealed tightly. I don't smoke a lot, so it's nice having a good tin that keeps the tobacco fresh, every time I open it. I like trying new tobacco's but this is one that I would definitely buy again. Recommended for sure!

If you don't like it at first, give it time...
EMP was my first attempt at an english. At first, I didn't like it at all; it smelled bad in the tin, the room note was smoky/spicy, and I had that after-taste for at least a day. I quickly turned back to my aromatics, but continue to give EMP another shot every weekend. Now I find myself looking forward to it. It is a much better smoke than any Aro I've had to date. The taste is complex and delicious if smoked slow. Not sure if I just finally learned how to smoke correctly or if my taste is changing, but this will definitely be my go to on the weekend (at least while I can still smoke outside).

Freshly tarred bootheels, smoky campfires where everyone is beautiful, a cologne only worn by men with pipes
Nothing quite like the aroma of leather and campfire to stimulate the olfactory senses in the morning or early afternoon...or even in the evening! This is a fantastic tobacco blend, hosting leathery, dark latakia, and a hint of sweet and mellow light browns. As soon as I opened the box containing my Dunhill order, its smell ripped through the room, and I was instantly captivated. It is a dark blend, which is deceiving when one remembers the name of the blend, "Dunhill Early Morning." A newbie might look at it, and be slightly frightened, perhaps at what they perceive will be a very stout drag, but when the bowl is packed properly, and that ember is rolling, the smoke and flavor are full, yet light; the heat is hot, but not too hot; the flavor is present, but not overwhelming. In other words, the Goldilocks effect (not too hot, not too cold, not to stiff, not too soft) is a way to describe this tobacco. Great blend to start the day. I find that a faint smoky smell follows me through the day, and it is not too particularly stout that someone would know it is me the moment I walk into a room. It's nice, rather complimenting of one's manhood.

Good start to my day
I smoke it every morning. It is a very mild English blend, very pleasant to smoke especially with a good cup of coffee. Dunhill always nails the ribbon cut, very consistent and provides an excellent, consistent smoke.

Seems to be nothing special about this tobacco. Tastes okay.

Not just for the earlier morning!
A splendid tobacco! A joy to smoke any time of the day. As David L. so aptly put it the tobacco is "...pleasant without being pushy..." This tobacco is a classic. One that I think all pipe smokers should try. If nothing else it will serve as a foundation and a point of reference that will facilitate selecting the you do love. It received a solid four stars, not because it has any shortcoming or downfalls, but simply because there are other tobaccos that I like more.

The perfect blend!
Early Morning Pipe is not a strong, assertive, full blend. It's milder, with a pleasant taste that doesn't announce itself roughly or push it's way forward. It's mild without being insipid, and pleasant without being pushy about it. It's strength is in the fact it's not a domineering blend, but a blend that softly coaxes one awake, and brings pleasure without being aggressive about it. Doing this, it's also a magical blend. As the first pipe of the day, it awakens without jarring, presses forward without being rude about it, and is, in general, the absolutely BEST light blend out there. It's light, but not bland. Not so quiet as to get lost. It has heft, but it's very gentle about it. Dunhill Early Morning Pipe is an amazing treasure that has to be experienced to understand.

Not for me.
I understand a lot of folks like this blend but I don't care for it. I gave it several attempts. Came back to it time after time. Just couldn't get use to what seemed to be a harsh and hot tobacco blend. Just one guys opinion.

A Polite English!
I've been branching out on my tobacco blends and started looking at some mild English blends. While I've only smoked a few bowls of this--ironically, as one would have it, in the wee hours of the morning. I have to say that the first bowl was AMAZING! I'm not sure if it was the pipe I was using (a Peterson Sterling Silver Donegal Rocky 80s) or perhaps there were some stray strands of a previous blend left in the pouch, but that first bowl, especially the first puffs, were sweet. Not an over powerful sugary sweetness, but I definitely noted an overall sweetness to the bowl. I was so taken aback that I commented out loud to a compatriate about it. However, every other time I've had EMB, it left me wanting that first bowlful. There was no sweetness; just a very gentle, polite English. Which is fine; it's what I was wanting when I purchased the blend. But I miss that first experience. The blend itself is a little more medium than mild for me. I've found when smoking a mild/medium blend that the further I get down the bowl the more the nicotine kicks in. So much so that by the time I've finished, I've got the spins and I'm more than a little nauseous. But that's just me. We're all different and some people have no problem with nicotine. I just have a low tolerance for it, it seems. EMP is a nice blend and the latocia is definitely there; you can smell the smokiness as soon as you open it, and there's that subtle hay smell of the virginias. But, to me, I had to re-check the jar (I stored it as soon as it arrived) because I couldn't really tell the difference between EMP and Squadron Leader. They both smelled and tasted the same. I've been told that the room note is not pleasant at all--my daughter said I smelled like cigarette smoke and not pipe smoke, and that's not a good thing. So, what I've learned is that, yes, it's a polite English blend, but it's really not for me. I'm sure others would like it just fine as it's a good definition into non-aromatics.

Damn Good Stuff
The first time I smoked it was in a Brigham Mountaineer pot with filter I was working on the computer and it went out 2 times. . I then decided to try it in my new Royal Dutch Lumberman that I had only smoked once. . I really liked the flavor and it’s a mild tobacco, it smoked cool and has no bite. This is the tobacco I’ll use to break this pipe in. In a new pipe, and it burned down to a fine ash. Dunhill Early Morning just went to the top of my tobacco list.

First time smoking an English blend.
As a novice pipe smoker this was my first English tobacco. The smell had me thinking that I would not like the experience, but my first bowl was outstanding. Burned a little hot but that might be my novice skill in packing. Was an excellent smoking experience look forward to the next smoke.

I found this blend to be bland & over hyped. It burns fine, but doesn't leave anything noteworthy, aside from a mild smoky flavor.

Simple, sweet, and tasty.
Its simplicity is its charm: sweet Virginias and Orientals with just a tiny hint of latakia.

Light, perfect for a first time English experience.
good smoke, on the mild side for an English, a hint of English I suppose. a bit too mild for my taste, but a good smoke. the quality and richness is definitely there, I guess I need a little bit more umph in my pipe! I would recommend this for someone trying out an English for the first time to get a nice soft feel for it. thanks for listening :¬)

Coffee, Eggs, Bacon and Bowl.
I'm a big fan of Nightcap, and compared it too much. I then started appreciating it for the different animal that it is. It still has the smokiness of an english blend, but toned down in comparison to the nightcap. That is combined with a sweetness, a citrusy tang, and a nuttiness. It is not just a name, this definitely calls to mind a breakfast meal.

Should be Early Mourning
I found this blend to burn extremely hot, so hot in fact I can't bring myself to try another bowl to make certain it wasn't other factors. I really enjoy this brands Night Cap blend, for me anyhow a much better option.

first non aromatic I've tried
This is the first Latakia/oriental blend I've tried, first bowl was interesting, bit of a nicotine buzz. So I've been using a very small pipe to try and enjoy it, and I am really liking it-I light up one bowl right after the other. So I think it is a good place to start before moving on to a more English blend. The thing I don't like is that it has "room note" which just smells like somebody lit 10 cigarettes. It's worth a try though, so just go ahead and buy a tin.

THIS is THE classic English, for me anyway.
Been around for over 100 years. Can you guess why? Excellent quality, masterful blending, and obvious pride in the history of their tobacco making. I've been trying some English and something apart from the aros. MAN was I heavy into the aros a year ago. I still love some of them but Chocolate/Cherry is a very narrow road. This is a smooth and easy on the tongue as some of the pop Mild/Med aros but it's all about tobacco. ERASE the reviews in your head that might make some reference to "cigarette". NO, it's NOTHING like that. It IS VERY easy to deal with, in that it is exquisitely blended and VERY LOW maintenance. I'll still get a smile from Hobbit's Weed every time, but THIS stuff is so legit!

Around forever? With good reason.
I really enjoyed smoking this tobacco. I am NOT usually a fan of Latakia, period. In fact, I have opened tins of tobacco of which I was unaware contained the stuff and simply tossed it in the trash. THIS stuff had something that compelled me to fire it up. I was very glad I did! The Latakia IS there even if Dunhill doesn't say so. Over 100 years on the market and still out there said something to me. Very enjoyable.

My first English was E.M.P!
New to pipe smoking, I decided to purchase a tin of Dunhills Early Morning Pipe (E.M.P) as my first English. Either my palate is too inexperienced or this just didn't sit well with my taste buds. The flavor was not what I want first thing in the morning nor did I feel it pared with a cup of coffee well. However I've since found that I love Balkan style tobaccos and straight Virginas. I placed my unused portion of E.M.P in a jar and shelved it almost 5 months ago. I think I'll give it another try at 6 months and see if my tasted have changed! 5 stars for P&C though for the service they've delivered since I started my Piping journey!!!

Awesome intro to English blends
I am still relatively new to pipe smoking and I'm sampling different blends to try to find out what I really enjoy. I've been smoking mostly aromatics (like many beginner pipe smokers start out with). I have also tried 1 or 2 non-aromatics and my English blend sampling has been limited to the Frogmorton blends. I know Dunhill has a very good reputation among many pipe smokers so I wanted to give a couple of their blends a taste as well. Nightcap has a great reputation but it also has a reputation for being a very strong blend so I decided that it probably would not be a good first choice for me. EMP on the other hand is excellent, in my humble opinion. I am too new to pick out the subtle flavor nuances but overall I find it to have a excellent mild flavor. I could see this as being a all day smoke for some folks, but as for me I truly enjoy it as my first bowl of the day. I usually smoke it right after breakfast and it's a perfect start to a day of pipe smoking for me. The flavor is mild but very appealing to me. Out of the tin I got it was perfect. It packs easily, burns consistently, smokes cool and requires very few relights. Out of the several brands and blends that I have already sampled, I can tell that this one will be a keeper for me. If you too are new to pipe smoking and looking to expand your palate, I highly recommend EMP!

Great All Day Smoke
This an all day smoke for me, It does go really well with that first coffee of the morning, but it has enough flavour that I find it's becoming my go-to tobacco. I will definitely be getting this on a regular basis. Thoroughly recommend it.

Not sure why they call this "Early Morning," as this is my go-to for an all day smoke. Enough zest to keep me interested and yet smooth enough to enjoy any time, (early) day or night.

Customer Testimonials
Dry, bright, and simple. After enjoying a half of a tin, here are my notes: Tin note: dry leather baseball mitt mixed mixed with fresh leaf pile. My tin was over a year old, and was much less sharp than when first purchased. The best part of the bowl was after the first 1/4th, after which it took on a warm, faintly sweet flavor reminiscent of fire-roasted corn husks. When not patient, I got mild tongue bite from this mix. Please note that the bite was nothing like a scalding Captain Black chemical burn some of you may relate to from your tobacco adventures. This blend was meant to be sipped, not chased. EMP mixed very well with a shandy or a mimosa. It hid a medium nicotine buzz, which I enjoyed. While the name demanded a morning smoke, I preferred it mid-afternoon, on a bright, sunny day. The room note never got rave reviews from my girlfriend, who described it as "smoky and dry, almost cigarettey at first, then turning cigarish." Please note that she has been spoiled by my aromatics (lol). Unlike my aromatics, I observed the taste and room note improved greatly over the course of a bowl. Pipe Used: Peterson Kilarney Age When Smoked: 1 year
Great tobacco, perfect with a good cup of coffee
Until I got Dunhill Early Morning, I was mostly smoking aromatic blends. Since the first taste of Early Morning, though, this has become my "go-to" smoke. It seems like no matter what time of day, each bowl is perfect. If you're looking to get into English blends, this is probably the one to do it. It's not to harsh and offers the right amount of flavor. It packs quite well and smoke production are at the levels I prefer.
Speaking as a (novice) fan of English blends, I think this is a great anytime tobacco as it tends towards the mild side. Excellent humidity right out of the tin and smokes perfectly dry. For a mild English, it certainly merits the hype.
I wont try and describe the blend suffice to say it was very nice as the name imply s it is a nice morning smoke very smooth.
I really wanted to like this tobacco. It has a nice nicotine kick, but I find myself a bit repulsed by the leather aftertaste.
Great first bowl of the day, I smoke it every morning.
This tobacco is great morning, noon or night. The taste is great and I will be ordering more soon.
EMP is a great light English to smoke at any time of the day really. This isn't to say that it is light in flavor but rather that it isn't a lat bomb. You certainly get a good taste of the lat but the orientals shine through for a really fine mixture from Dunhill.
Not a fan. It is way too smoky and spicy for me. I will stick with my Lane BCA, I love Cavendish.
This is a mild, smoky-sweet smoke. It smells great out of the tin and is great with a cup of coffee in the morning. I ordered more after my sample.
This is my blend. Smooth, cool, smokey. Like a good scotch. I have been trying many brands and blends - sweet, fruity and non. Still trying to find about 3-5 blends to rely on. This is one of those go to must have tobaccos.
This blend has great range. Pack it loose or tight its a nice mild smoke with English characteristics that fade in and out.Lovely stuff for anytime. There is an almost buttery finish about it for me at times..could just be me.
When you find a good thing, you can't help but share. I stumbled upon EMP early my exploring of pipe blends, and it has settled into the #1 spot and is my "Go To" blend. I've had a tin somewhere for several years now. This blend is perfect for every use, but there is something magical about it when smoked in the cool of the morning hours outdoors. It's worth twice it's price or better in my book. Buy it!
Brilliant tobacco, nice and light but still has just enough Latakia to give it a sturdy english feel. I'd highly recommend it!
I like this stuff, I haven't had the infamous Nightcap before, but this is what I settled for. I think it's good, it's not as light and mild as it may sound like it is, but it's not quite as strong and dark as some other latakia-based English blends as. It has sort of a dark and mysterious flavor to me, smoky and charcoal-like, not in a bad way though, it's not bitter or ashy or anything. I would say it could still make an all-day smoke, though. It's good.
Great blend. Smoky, mild spice and slightly creamy. Good anytime of the day. Has the spice and pipey flavors others tobaccos lack. I find myself using this to cut plum pudding and Mississippi River. It adds the burn and flavors those 2 Baccys lack. All around its a great blend, a must have.
I was surprised that I actually kind of like this blend since I'm not too crazy about non-aromatics or English blends. It smoked nice and had a nice aroma.
One of my fellow pipe smoking friends from pipe magazine .com gave me several baccies to sample. One was this product. I would say this is my go to smoke. I find it smokes cool and mild. My wife likes the earthly aroma it has. A great smoke anytime of the day, but especially "early morning."
