Dunhill Standard Mixture Mellow

Can smoke all day long. Mild!

A classic

Dunhills been at it for a long time and it shows and regardless of who’s physically blending their stuff, it’s got to meet their QC inspection. I never smoked the stuff from decades ago and due to the organic nature of tobacco, it wouldn’t be relavent as the blending stock is different now than it was then...having gotten that off my chest, I’ll admit that their Mellow is a full time favorite of mine. I always have a tin with me and my pipes of the day...I may have something else as well like my Barling Tradition Full or Prince Albert but the Mellow is my first choice most of the time. It’s pleasantly strong and tasty with an agreeable aroma and not overloaded with strong components. As with all the Dunhill tobaccos, it’s well packaged, looks and smells good in the tin, loads and packs well and if you’ve done your part, it’ll smoke to the bottom of the bowl with no bite or excess moisture. I hope it’s around for a long time...I fear that it’s days may be numbered...would be a shame if it were gone. It could likely be compared to something that I haven’t smoked so I won’t venture a “tastes like” opinion. I’d say instead, try it, you’ll like it with a reasonable certainty that you would.

Just a wonderful mild smoke!

I'm not the experienced pipe know-it-all. Take what I say with a pinch of salt,in case i miss the flavor in my review. Since I've smoked only pouch and bulk-packed tobaccos, the incentive to try Dunhill in a tin was strong. Tins always seemed like a luxury item to me, something more than a bag of leaves for burning, so I was eager to open the tin and know the mystery of Dunhill Standard Mixture Mellow. The mystery was straightforward: A mild but certainly not featureless tobacco, nicely contained in a firmly packed paper insert and covered by a card stock seal to hold in freshness. The moisture content was low, aroma was deliciously evident as soon as the tin was open,and seemed perfect for a rich, relaxing smoke. I packed my favorite pipe in anticipation. My first bowl of Dunhill was not a success, but it was encouraging. The Dunhill mixture was so easily packed that I overdid it, packing so tightly that the pipe wouldn't draw well. My second attempt was done with care, and yielded a very satisfying draw and my most pleasant smoke to date. I felt like I was finally in the fine tobacco fraternity. The mystery was solved.

I've always been partial to Dunhill, and this is one their best.

All I can say is this is a wonderfully sweet and tangy from start to finish.

While I ordered the Dunhill Standard Medium, I resigned myself to trying this tobacco for the first time. Quite reminiscent of Leo, but without the payoff punch flavor wise. Still, there is nuance here and, if you can go with it, you will be rewarded by a quality smoke: subtle, smooth without a bite, and satisfying. I kept longing for more Latakia presence, but it hangs in the background as an intimation...A worthwhile experience to have if you are in the mood for understatement.

Very good, one of my favorite Dunhill blends. A mild, yet tasty and flavorful English blend.

Excellent light English blend. Nice flavor despite being a light blend. Excellent morning smoke.

Dunhill SMM is an unpretentious, authentic blend having a somewhat English character, without the very forward Latakia note. Because of its reserved personality, it can be enjoyed with greater persistence than other showier formulations. I have gone consecutive bowls with SMM and you'll find you can do the same, without fear that you're going overboard with your lovely tobacco intake.

Mellow and slow burning great taste

I was pleasantly surprised when I first cracked open a tin of this tobacco. I had bought the tin a good six months ago and had just left it sitting in my cellar. I haven't tried the Dunhill Standard Mixture, so I don't know how this compares. I do tend to like a more mellow tobacco, though, and this really hits the spot. I consider this an all day type of smoke. It smokes down to a fine ash with zero tongue bite. It also leaves a pleasant taste of the tobacco in my mouth for several hours (nutty/toasty). As far as nicotine, I consider myself a light weight and I would put this in the middle. Not hard hitting, but you do notice it.

This is my everyday smoke. This is the standard I test all other tobaccos against. I like a mellow smoke with a nice room note. The Dunhill Standard Mix Mellow meets my tastes. I haven't found any other mixtures that can take its place still looking.

Smokes like English but seems a bit strong for a "mellow".

Order arrived in timely manner, was complete and the price was right

My first tin of English. Pleasant enough smoke. Slightly sour tin note. Burned a little hot at first but settled down deeper into the bowl. Little bite and mild nic buzz. Very mellow flavor for someone used to aromatics. Mild room note. Will try some other English blends and compare.

For over 20 years, I smoked full bodied English mixtures and matured VA. I started smoking Dunhill Standard Mixture Mellow back when it was Standard Mixture Mild. I was amazed that this "mild" mixture from Dunhill provided me with great satisfaction. I find it to be an excellent "all day" smoke. While working at my desk, smoking heavier mixtures, I found myself paying more attention to the smoke then to my work...Standard Mixture Mellow doesn't distract, but enhances my smoking experience while working. Excellent tobaccos, excellent service!

I'd like something very like this but just a touch milder, if there is such a blend.

I smoke a variety of blends, and often English as I enjoy Latakia. Sometimes I want the Latakia to be less dominate and in this one, it takes a back seat to the Virginia. I like that and usually find this to be a good "go-to" smoke several times per week. This blend also gets much better after I open a tin and it gets a little age since a tin lasts me a month or so. I usually keep one tin opened and another waiting in the cabinet.

One of my all time favorites. Never a bad can. Great for someone taking the jump to English.
