Dunhill Ye Olde Signe

Dunhill Ye Olde Signe is a blend that Dunhill had discontinued decades ago, and it begs the question "Why?"

Ye Olde Signe is a richly fermented, straight Virginia in a fine ribbon cut. The process used to produce the tobacco creates a natural tea-like tin aroma and results in a natural-tasting tobacco that has a mellow sweetness and subtle aroma. In spite of the gentle flavor, this is a very robust blend best enjoyed after a meal. See for yourself why so many longtime Dunhill fans consider this one of their very finest.

Royal Yacht .2
Royal Yacht .2 has very similarities to royal yacht. Smoking this as i type this. I love royal yacht and wanted to try more virginia based blends. Slightly different but not much. If you like royal yacht give this a shot. It is good.

Ye Olde Signe is a solid blend
I stocked up on some YOS based on my former experience with it. I like virginias and generally prefer it in flake form. YOS, though not a flake, is a nice Virginia. It lights and smokes without a problem, and stellar when sipped.

Quality and solid Dark Virginia Blend
I've only had limited experience with lighter Virginia blends and found they weren't really quite to my taste. This blend however does have a fullness and solidity that has made me appreciate it. I'm actually sitting here smoking a bowl of it right now in a clay pipe - just like the guy on the tin cover. :) One important note - seems like this blend is pretty strong in the nicotine department. One of the strongest I've tried.

The scoop on the Sign.
Aroma in the tin: Pleasant. Not very powerful, smells slightly damp, and is akin to a good bright cigar. Packing the bowl: Easy. Stays together nicely between the fingers and isn't messy. Lightning: Moderate. It took me two matches and vigorous puffing to develop a self sustaining cherry, but this could be improved by a little air drying of the tobacco. Mouth Note: Quite pleasant. The smoke is a little spicy, and has a moderate tobacco flavor, but not to the point of overpowering. No tongue bight to speak of, even in my hottest burning pipe. Nasal note: Strong. When reciprocating through the nasal passages, Old Sign let's you know it is there. It is spicy, earthy, and full of its own flavor. It's right up there with a nice light leaf cigar. On the inhale: Unpleasant, but this is pipe tobacco, so it's not for use like a cigarette anyway. Nicotine hit: Good. Relaxing, and not to the point of causing jitters. Not the strongest, so if you want a smoke that has you hitting the deck, better get a different tobacco.

sweet but weak
Just a bit weak needs some perique, IT does NOT taste like Elizabethan without perique This Virginia is sweeter than Elizabethan's VA. Possibly from the African tobacco fields.Just MHO

Loved it
Sweet and smooth is the name of the game here. Love the tin art too. Another fantastic Dunhill. You can't go wrong.

Dunhill Ye Olde Signe
To keep it real simple I like Dunhill tobaccos and was hoping for more from this one. I opened a fresh tin and smoked one bowl. It is not my favorite so at this point I'm not sure if I will smoke it again. I may give it time to age and try much later. It's not for me. I think it's a like it or not and I don't like it out of the tin.

A Satisfying and Bold Blend.
As others have noted this is very similar to Elizabethan Mixture, which imo is a very good thing. I must say I was a bit surprised when I opened it, I was expecting a darker color based on the description. That aside, it is a satisfying smoke, what I would consider an all day blend, if, that is, you like nicotine. It does not strike me as particularly complex, like E.M. and that is fine, because it does not need complexity when it has quality. A satisfying bold smoke.

A Darker Stronger Virginia
Dunhill Ye Olde Signe (YOS) is a straight Virginia blend that is decidedly on the dark side of the spectrum. I love Dunhill Flake, which I consider the perfect Virginia blend. YOS tastes more like Elisabethan without the perique. It is toasty, nutty, and sweet without being cloying. Very high quality. Does not bite. Smooth. Great Dunhill Ribbon cut that packs and smokes easily. YOS is a bit high on the nicotine hit, so be careful. Nic levels are not so high as Nightcap, but definitely up there with 965. In sum: Great darker VA blend which I enjoyed, but which will not replace Dunhill Flake for me.

Great Virginia Tobacco
In my opinion, Dunhill " Ye Olde Signe" is the same as Dunhill "Elizabethan Mixture" without the addition of the Perque. Just a great virginia tobacco of which I will be buying much more of. If you enjoy virginia tobacco you will love the flavor of this one.
