Gawith & Hoggarth Dark Bird's Eye

Gawith, Hoggarth & Co.'s Dark Bird's Eye is made of a dark-fired Kentucky and a form of Virginia with the main stem left intact, which lends even more flavor. It's rolled and cut into a fine shag for easy packing. It stays lit easily, but should be smoked especially slowly as it can burn quickly and get hot. G&H Dark Bird's Eye is a stout smoke with tremendous flavor - ideal for those who enjoy stronger tobaccos.

Excellent pick me up
Surprised it has a lot of taste but it does, very good I'll keep buying. Great mixer, boosts the potency of your aromatics and adds another dimension to pipe smoking. It's not a crazy nicotine tobacco like I've read, I smoke it in the morning with my coffee no problem.

Over the Top Power
I'm a longtime pipe smoker and have over the years gravitated towards matured Virginias as my go to. This one is just way too much for me. It burns fast and hot (and I'm not a fast puffer) and is LOADED with nicotine. Aslo, I didn't find much pleasure in the taste or room aroma; so I'm not sure what the buzz (no pun intended) is about with this tobacco. I'll have to blend the rest or just toss it. For my tastes, stick with the McClelland matured Virginia's, Samuel Gawith Best Brown, McClelland Aurora, and may other fine Virginia tobaccos before heading down the road to this one. Too bad, but the reviews led me astray.

G&H Dark Birdseye
Dark birds eye is the best G&H tobacco i have tried so far. A nice earthy smoke thats good and strong. Be careful while puffing this one though. The nicotine is high enough to give you the hiccups. Only a little of the lakeland essence is present. Will keep this one around at all times. Great with a cup of coffee or any bourbon or scotch of your liking

Great After Dinner!
This is partially a review of the tobacco and partially of P and C... I ordered a different tobacco, originally, but it arrived dried out and crumbled (first problem I had ever had with their products). I called and P and C was quick to replace it, free of charge. Upon Sal's recommendation, based on what he perceived my preference to be, I tried Dark Bird's Eye and it arrived quickly, and in perfect condition. P and C customer service is fantastic - kudos to Sal for the spot on recommendation. This is a very tasty, very strong tobacco. I almost only smoke full bodied VA and some VAPers, and this one is still hard for me to handle in terms of strength. However, I don't think it has to be blended as some have suggested; I think if you smoke it slow and eat a good meal in advance, this is great on its on! Maybe my palette is not fine tuned enough to pick it up, but I don't taste a casing on this. To me, the flavor is earthy, maybe a little leathery, with a nice peppery note through the nose. The only downside (maybe) is that it can burn hot if you are not careful. This tobacco is a fantastic after dinner smoke - maybe my new favorite!

Like smoking flowers
If you can get past the lakeland essence, this is a good tobacco. It would probably be an everyday smoke if the essence were not added. Seems like this is a toned down Kendal Kentucky with flower petals added. I may smoke what I have, but don't see myself ordering any more. Now that Kendal Kentucky has been discontinued, it looks like PS Dark Fired gets the #1 spot so far.

Perfection, Uniquely Distinguishabley IT !!!
My all time favorite. It's taken a while to really find what I like, and this is it....Perfect for what purpose I feel it fills. If your looking for something nice and dark, G&H Birdseye is the perfect mixer to put the zing in a lighter tobac that you want to put some nitros oxide into..... - Careful though - take it from someone who loves strong tobac - this ones for mixing, there is " to much of a good thing " Mix it either with P&S Amsterdam or D&R Ryback Regular, two very nice dark tobaccos that mixed 5 to one with some Birds Eye,,,,well that hit's the bulls eye for me. Perfect RYO Mix if you like Drum, Bali Shag etc, you'll love this mix even more !!! Last thought - FOR RYO it is a little too moist, I put an oz or so on a cookie sheet, and bake it at 225 F for about 15 mins to dry it out.

Dark n Lovely
I love this stuff. Dark earth sweetness. Fine shag cut burns easy. The retrohale lets you feel the N. Bought 8oz, but I might not be able to age it because I'm reaching for it every day.

It'll put hair on your chest
It's been a while since I smoked this, an old fave. I'd forgotten how strong it is. Sip slowly in a small pipe. Great for a nice change. Reminds me of European rolling tobacco.

Great tobacco
Very strong and not for the faint of heart. It's unusual in that it's very stringy and it can be very hard to get a good pack, but it's an awesome tobacco. Good buzz.

Good taste! Good buzz! Great tobacco!
I mixed this with five brothers which is also a fine birdsseye cut and found it made a nice blend that is balanced and wireless.
