Gawith, Hoggarth & Co.'s Happy (Brown) Bogie is an unabashedly strong tobacco. The flavor is that of earthy tobacco, aromatic wood, smoke and bold spice. It should be sliced thin, as it tends to go out easily. This is a tobacco to be smoked slowly, and should be avoided if you find strength to be off-putting. This is a very traditional rope, meant for the seasoned pipester. G&H Happy (Brown) Bogie shows why they are the undisputed master of robust rope tobaccos.

I call this Black n Brown Bogie
An ancient classic. Excellent straight up or used as a sensational leaf for your personal mixtures. Play around with it. A little bit goes a very long way. One of my personal favorites is 1/4 Bogie to 3/4 black cav. Shear off what you need and really work the two tobaccos together, then let it sit, spread out for a day or so. Then rub it all out. If you squeeze some together and it stays stuck together, let it dry some more until you can do the squeeze test until it finally falls apart, but is still lightly moist. It will insure a perfect smoke that will stay lite and tastes like heaven. Pack your pipe, layering in between tamps but not too firm; just a little give. Enjoy it gents.

Personal favorite
Best tasting pipe tobacco I’ve ever smoked. I hope P&C keeps offering it at such a bargain price, I want more!

Old School
I love this tobacco in a clay or corn cob pipe. It is strong, but nowhere near overpowering for an experienced pipe smoker. I achieve the best results by slicing up several pipes worth of coins and keeping them in a pouch to dry. All you have to do is shake the pouch and the coins break themselves down into a workable shag cut. Taste best when a little dry. It also works as a chewing tobacco if you are so inclined. I am not, but that's neither here nor there.

A hefty smoke
Sweet mother of vitamin N, this is a hefty smoke. It has a strong, smooth Virginia(?) feel to real subtlety, spiciness, smokiness or aromatics, just plain strong tobacco. I cut coins and rubbed them out and smoked it pretty quickly with little drying time, but found no bite whatsoever. I don't think I could/should smoke this fast enough to get any bite. I suspect this is what a lot of old time tobacco was like. It's probably a great selection for a "historical" smoker.

Get your matches and your spit cup ready for a good smoke
Pretty good. Pretty strong, but some days that is what you are looking for. Keepign lit is a pain, but when you've got the time its not problem to sit and re light and re-lirght. I spit a lot when I smoke it

The Ultimate Smoke!
Just finished my first full bowl of brown bogie rope. This is one terrific smoke!Cut a couple of coins off the rope, let them dry out for about a day,rub the tobacco out.Make sure you don't pack your bowl to tight, this has to breath and expand a bit.A couple of lights and your on your way. This is serious stuff!very strong nicotine. The taste reminds me of a fine cigar, then mellows out with less bitterness. No tongue bite at all.To me it reminds me of 1792 flake without the added casing note.Best smoked after a meal, this is heavy duty nicotine. This is a classic!Every piper should give this a try.

Oh yeah.
This is a strong smoke, period. It's a twist, not a rope, so you are getting full tobacco leaf here. I cut off about 1/2 inch and snipped into bits and smoked in a smaller pipe. Definitely a full flavor, almost cigar like in nature to me. Grab a good strong cup of coffee and kick back and enjoy the ride. I'm enjoying this smoke. I put the rest in a small mason jar to tame a bit.

I give it so many stars with a bit of an asterisk: I love very strong, bold flavors in pretty much everything! I do enjoy pipes but I lament being able to find a pipe-equivalent to a very strong cigar. This is that tobacco.

Incredible stuff.
Adding to previous review. G&H brown twist sliced will give you the same kick as G&H happy brown bogie unsliced. Be careful.

Strong stuff!
Serious stuff, high nicotine which I like. Make sure you eat before partaking or you will visit the toilet. I am used to high nicotine, if your not beware. I unfortunately inhale a few times to get the N buzz going, not recommended. You must build up to this level of nicotine. BE Careful!

Definitely has a punch! Feel dizzy/queasy, even when mixing with other pipe tobaccos to cut it. Also getting a bubble in throat feeling while smoking this one for some reason. Not sure what it is exactly since that's a first for me.

Have had the pleasure of this mellow smoke. The tobacco itself has a very high nicotine content so be careful. Have not experienced any bite with this tobacco but have become dizzy half way through a medium bowl. The fact that it is always on backorder no matter where you order ought to tell you something. Be careful. Love it, 5 stars!
