Sweet and Full
As if distilled from Cognac, or refined from sugar cane, this pipe tobacco has a comfort-food fullness so important to a smoker, while avoiding that clear-the-room roughness such flavors can impart to visitors. Pure tradition

Ok, not great.
I was curious. I bought a tin of GB after reading that C.S Lewis had smoked it, among others. It burns evenly and cooly, has a nice aroma and full, but unremarkable flavor - a middling smoke. For the same $, I’ll take a pouch each of Velvet, SWR, Half&Half and Carter Hall - and still have enough left over for Russ’s Summer Splash. A worthy experiment, but that’s it.

Very mellow and smooth ripe virginias
Aromatic in tin note only. This blend is smooth ripe virginias with that citrusy grassy note we all gave come to love from a good virginia blend. A very enjoyable smoke start to finish.

After All These Years!
I had a good friend from England who smoked only Gold Block and would bring the rectangle tin to me when he visited the US, which was often. I would stock up when I visited the UK. I enjoyed it very much. That was 20 years ago. I haven’t smoked Gold Block since back then. I wanted to try it again but learned that the tobacconist in the UK, are not allowed to ship Gold Block to the US. By chance I found Bold Block (now in the round tin) at I bought two tins straight away. It’s nice to enjoy a bowl of Gold Block again, just a change from my regular brand. Still enjoy it very much … smokes a little hotter than I remember, probably just my memory.

Believing that the relationship between cost and quality would prove to excellent I purchased Gold Block. I was greatly disappointed in both the quality and overall "smokeability" of Gold Block. This purchase was my opportunity to try a never before smoked mixture/blend and proved to be an eye opening experience. This was the 1st time that I have been disappointed with any of the tobacco I have purchased from P&C. In the future I will stick with the mixtures/blends I am familiar with.
