Hearth & Home Marquee Concerto

Before P&C moved from Albany, NY to Bethlehem, PA, Russ had blended a Latakia-heavy blend with lots of Burley, along with some Orientals, Virginia, and Perique. It was supposed to be a new entry in the Hearth & Home Marquee line, but it never got sent out for tinning. When it came time to move, it got packed away and because it was such a hectic time, forgotten. When we discovered it earlier this year we sent it out to be tinned, but we wanted to use the old tins, and for old time's sake we asked Russ to design the label, which he had done for most of the old entries to the line. The blend has smokiness, earthiness, sweetness, and spice, with all the players working together, much like listening to a concerto, so that's what we decided to call it. Grab some and we think you'll agree that Hearth & Home Marquee Concerto hits all the right notes.

Another Shining Star Balkan Blend from Mr. RO
I used to be an all aro smoker til I tried some aged magnum opus... since then I've been greatly enjoying non-aromatics as well with Balkans at the top of the list. Russ is the foremost expert on Balkan blends in the world in my opinion and Concerto stands out along with Magnum Opus as his 2 best showcase blends. While MO features more of the amazing Turkish/Oriental varieties I love so dear, Concerto is a melange of nearly every major type of pipe tobacco together which, as the description states, leads to an amazingly balanced profile that is surprisingly not muddled by too much variety but instead boosted by it. As another reviewer stated, the Virginia's are noticeable (though I'd disagree on saying they are 'featured') and along with the cavendish, lend a slightly sweeter aromatic type quality giving a nice spin on the typical Balkan style. This would be a great secondary introductory type tobacco for aromatic smokers to get them interested in higher end non-aro's or for anyone looking to give Balkans a first try. And for those who already love Balkans like me, it is just a plain amazing blend to have in your regular rotation. Cheers Russ!

SMOOTH, and mellow Balkanesque...
SMOOTH...with an overall pleasing blend of flavors. Virginia's forward with noticeable oriental/balkanesque nuances, and a modicum of Latikia. . will be ordeing more. And, again, THANKS PnC.

A nice smooth, sweet English type of smoke!
A very good tobacco. It is similar to my formerly favorites: Shortcut to Mushrooms & Ruins of Isengard (No longer available) and the new Bombadil (which replaced them). I wish this came in bulk. I really like these types of tobaccos because of the nice mixture of Latakia and sweetness in them.

Excellent combination of tobaccos!
This is now my favorite English blend.

Nice American Balkan with a bit of sweetness
Nice Blend, as an English smoker this is a bit of a break with the added sweetness of the Cavendish.

Not bad
A little too mild for me, but good as a change up; you have to smoke it carefully to appreciate it. I agree with the others that you can taste the various ingredients. When I first smoked it I did not like it, but when I went back later I liked it. Maybe it has to air out a little before smoking. Normally I smoke Black House, Yule Log, match for Night Cap, but still like a partial aromatic such as Frenchy's Sonzabitches.

A Solid Smoke
It is a nice solid smoke. Like a meal or wine that satisfies and does not offend, it is good every time.

A good average blend for those without a sweet tooth
I get an impression of Concerto kind of like Frog Morton original but without the molasses-y overtones. This is one that I tend to add a pinch of something else into, like dark-fired sweet Burley or a Virginia flake. It's OK on its own, but not great.

One of the best to me so far. I have just tried a few pipes and felt satisfied. Definitely I will buy this tobacco from now on.

Great smoke!
I had no idea what this tobacco was going to taste like. It was "wonderful."

WhiteKnight's soft-spoken brother. I give it a solid B.
A light English or American Balkan, as the can says. It's a bit wet in the tin. It's pleasant, but has no real punch. I can taste the Turkish but again, it doesn't really grab me. It has only hints of sweetness or spiciness. It could be a bit sweeter, but that's not a deal breaker. Doesn't seem to provide much of a nicotine hit, which is a plus for some people. It's a nice smoke for passing the time but not for a relaxing sit-down chooch. I can taste all of the components, which are Black Cavendish, Virginias, Burley, Turkish, and Cyprian Latakia. I will say this (cautiously): If it had a better flavor tie-in it would be a bit like McClelland's Frog Morton (RIP). It smells like it in the tin note, with that sort of molasses overtone. Maybe it needs to be hot-pressed and rubbed back out...? I like it, but not a Top 10 lister.

Nasty stuff
thought I'd give this a try. Opened the can and the aroma about knocked me over. I thought, well kippers smell to some people, I'll give it a try. Ghastly and vile come to mind when I lit it up. Tasted like I was smoking red cedar or something. This tobacco might be fine for some people, but not me. Really learned a lesson not to order an eight ounce tin until I have tried it first.
