Heavy Duty Wind Cap

These wind caps are made of a little heavier metal stock, and have two buttons on the outside to push in the springs - just a little more money for a sturdier cap.

Save furniture
Great in preventing burns in things made of modern fabric.

Works Well
Works well, but tabs could be stronger.

Meh!
Not heavy duty like it says and not as good as the one I lost and had to replace. Merely 'OK' for the price.

good product
This cap works well after I tweaked the angle of attack of the tabs with needle nosed pliers. I wish the tabs were a little thicker and less prone to flexing, but it does function better than expected for a couple of bucks.

Disappointing
Not so heavy duty. Tabs easily bend and break.

Flimsy
Like others have said, the metal grips that are supposed to hold this on the bowl are extraordinarily flimsy. I usually pack a pipe before I leave the house and put a windcap on it and keep it in a pocket till I have time for a smoke; these inevitably fall off and I end up with a pocket of tobacco crumbs. Save your money.

Good To Have Handy
I usually am not out doing things while smoking the pipe, so I won;t use this much. But it's good to have for those times of stiff or gusty evening breezes. It does work.

Great wind cap
Really great wind cap does what it is supposed to do. Adjustible so fits 3 out of 4 pipes I own.

Wind cap
Works great. Had one before and the material was a bit heavier, but these do a good job and prevent a lot of burn holes from finding there way on to your clothes.

WindCap
The heavy duty WindCap does an excellent job of blocking the wind enough to keep the pipe smoking cool. It fits most of the pipes I have except for a couple of the larger briars. The only drawback is that the tabs that hold it in the bowl are a bit flimsy and if left in your pocket they end up folding over. All in all its a good product but I don't know if heavy duty is the best way to describe it.

Very Flimsy
The wings that extend into the pipe bowl and the spring that holds it on are too thin, so the cap doesn't work well. There is a heavier version available (I've bought it before elsewhere at twice the cost), but this is misnamed as "heavy duty".

NO.
Heavy top side looks formidable, but has a useless bottom side... that's the important part "gripping" to the pipe bowl. The two prongs are flaccid and lack dimples or claws to grab the pipe chamber. So no "gripping." I tried it in several pipes, pipes with plenty of rough cake, and it just falls off at the slightest use. I will find a small nail and a hammer to add inward dimples for gripping the bowl. If I can turn this higher priced wind cap into the cheap model -- that works like a champ -- then I'll have something! Otherwise... recycling bin.

Works well, should have bought it a long time ago!

Good, but not Great
The caps are heavy, but the tabs that hold it to the bowl are thin and somewhat flimsy, I ordered 2 caps, both tabs on both caps were bent, and they are thin enough that i was concerned they'd snap off when i straightened them. Not what i expected from a "Heavy Duty" item

Heavy Duty Wind Cap vs Metal Wind Cap
I have been comparing the functionality of both of these and I think the Metal model wins over the Heavy Duty model. I use these gadgets for covers to keep pre-loaded tobacco from falling out of the pipe. I sometimes pre-load pipes at home and in my car at work directly from the tin with no drying time just for convenience. When I get off work, the pre-loaded pipe that has been in my car all day is ready to smoke, relieving all the tensions of the day- no waiting time to dry. The Heavy Duty model seems a little weaker in the ability to stay put if bumped around. The inside tabs seem weaker as compared to the Metal model and the spring tension is weaker also.

This gadget works in the winds of western Texas, it will work anywhere! No fuss just function!
This wind cap is indeed made of thicker metal than the $2.75 "Metal Pipe Cover." I am struggling to find any way in which the Heavy Duty Wind Cap is superior to the less expensive Metal Pipe Cover. I have used a single Metal Pipe Cover for 3 outdoor seasons. It is like new (with the help of regular cleaning). I am on my second Heavy Duty Wind Cap. The first one I received had a bent inner flange. I rearranged it to get it to attach to a pipe properly. It fell out and was lost on the first use. (These are really most useful when out tromping around, mind you.) To Pipes and Cigars' credit, they replaced the faulty unit quickly. The new HD Wind Cap has no visible defect, yet it stays in my pipes hardly any better than the defective one. Perhaps if this product is used exclusively in "standard" size bowls, one would have no issue. I tend to collect both larger and smaller than usual bowl sizes. I suspect that the inner flange is too flexible to deal with variations. I think that the spring mechanism is likely too loose as well;in other words, it is not tightly enough sprung. The only benefit the Heavy Duty Wind Cap might have over the Metal Pipe Cover is for someone who has dexterity issues. The HD Wind Cap might be easier to take on and off than the Pipe Cover. The pressure points for moving the springs on the HD Wind Cap are more prominent than the corollary on the Pipe Cover. Otherwise, I don't see how this is even worth the very modest 20 cents extra. I can't recommend this product.
