Heavyweight Bout

Out of all the "Balkan" blends I've consumed (Sooo many!), this by far is the tastiest imo. "Buttery" indeed, and this one has that creamy finish I crave in full English mixtures. Out of the park with this one!! Yummm!!

This was my first venture into the English blends and I wasn't disappointed. Sutliff has created a wonderful blend with this one. Great aroma upon opening the bag with hints of leather and smokiness. Smokes easy. I love this one in the evening with a cup of coffee and my feet propped up. I will get more of this in the future.

Still a bit mild for me but a pleasant smoke that burns well.

Smooth smoke with no bite. Don't let the name deter your interest. This is one great smoke. Smokes cool and dry with zero bite. Nice aroma. Nice all round English blend. If you like English blends you'll like this one!

Very well balanced and satisfying blend. No bite to it at all, it's a good all day English blend. I don't see what's heavy about it but I suppose that's a matter of personal taste. I didn't find any part of it overpowering in the least. Great tobacco, I only took a star because five stars are reserved for the blends that make my brain and mouth obsess a bit. I'm definitely making space in my regular rotation for this blend.

If you like Frog Morton or Bill Bailey Balkan Blend, you really should try this.

Great mid day smoke

I was wanting to try this stuff for a while and I'm glad I did. This is a really tasty, bold English treat. A beautiful looking mixture. Pouch aroma is magnificent. Classic Oriental forward English blend, which I love. The flavor and strength are exactly as billed "heavy" . If you are a Latakia nut I highly recommend. The complementary Virginia offers some nice accents. Overall a well balanced and consistent flavor with this one. Burns cool and complete. Another quality, well-priced English mixture from Sutliff. Happy buyer here!

Sutliff has produced a pleasant tobacco as usual. Their Heavy English is reasonably cool burning. I find it quite light in effect. Latakia is slightly more pronounced than their standard English, but still not especially strong. A bit more flavor than their English blend, but not much so.

I like this blend and it is a change of pace. But, I prefer Majestic English from these guys. Perhaps the best English blend I have tasted. But, this is good to have for a change of pace. I would definitely purchase again.

A routine, unexceptional tobacco. It made no special impression on me. In short it Is a pleasant smoke but not one I would strongly recommend.

This blend is named Heavy English but it's smooth and mild. That's just a name though, maybe it is heavy to others. I do enjoy the taste of this tobacco and will be ordering more. A good starter English blend or just a change up for experienced English blend smokers.

Frog Morton was my favorite, but Larry’s Blend comes closest to replacing it.

I was trying a variety of English blends and decided the ones I chose were all fairly similar. Burned well and completely but as a class not exactly what I am looking for.

The Orientals are different... Very unique taste that burns slow and cool, not bite. Nice aroma, not over powered by latakia. Very enjoyable.

I expected a much more robust smoke, but find it to be a plain and hot burning.

I like flavor and this is nothing short of full tobacco flavor. It’s definitely a notch down from Nightcap as far as Latakia definitely taste lemon virginias. Nailed this English blend. I like the earthyness. Great smoke.

Taste is so personal, a review is probably only valuable when compared with a knowable standard. For this smoker, who insists on a lot of latakia in a blend, but who likes very few of the latakia blends on the market, Larry's is one of the few that satisfies. In comparison to what? Well, I like the current John Cotton # 3 in tins, and the fine latakia blends by Smoker's Haven (made by Germain), such as Best Blend, or Exotique. If you like those, this is likely to please. MP

So far it's great for what it is. Its a great everyday smoke anytime smoke and a great way to fill up the jars I will buy more for sure

Great balance of flavor.

I've been smoking heavy english for over a year. in fact this is the second pound I have ordered. It has a flavor not real heavy on the latakia with a mild after taste. It does burn a little fast but that is no problem to my taste.

This is a great blend, you can smoke it all day and it burns great.

Excellent English Blend. The name says heavy english, I disagree with the name but that is not a bad thing. Its very well balanced, very tasty and very smooth. When I think of heavy I think of Nightcap, my all time favorite blend. I was looking for a blend that had smyrna tobacco in it and found this. According to Sutliff this blend combines Smyrna, Lemon Virginia, oriental grades and latakia. I fell in love with smryna and its tasty musty notes. If you like Presbyterian mixture you will surely love this blend. The smyrna is a bit more noticeable for me and that is exactly what I was seeking. I would consider this a medium strength, very well balanced smoke, very tasty. If you are afraid of the name heavy english dont be, you will enjoy it. If you are seeking something heavy you should also try it. I dont think you will be disappointed. This is a winner!!!

I first tried the Sutliff Heavy English and thought it was quite tasty but felt that something was missing, then I tried Larry's Blend and found exactly what that was, Larry's, for me anyway, has it all. This IS my new "go to" favorite blend. Full flavored, rich, creamy, latakia forward.

I enjoy English tobaccos and this mixture is enjoyable. I can't break it down into the various tastes etc., my palate is not that sophisticated or refined, but I know what I like. I find it tho be a well balanced enjoyable smoke.

Tried this tobacco after using Balkan Supreme bulk blend for years. I find this tobacco blend much smoother and more flavorful, I like the smoothness of this blend and has very little if any bite or harshness. Rich Smokey Latakia and refined orientals make this my everyday smoke now, it’s just so tasty.

Got this because was highly rated,and I was stocking up on Balkans...this one has a bit more kick than some of my other Balkans...but is still very enjoyable as a taster while slowly smoking it..heavier in Latakia than I expected, Orientals are very forward also.

Expected more lat from a "heavy english" . Maybe so time in the jar will help

I have been smoking bengal slices and plum pudding. I will probably switch to heavy english because I feel it has less bite than the bengal slices and I prefer the taste to plum pudding.

Me and English tabboco have I long history,started smoking Dunhill English in1968 .all I know about tabboco I what taste good to me and really that is all that'll matter and the end of the day.and as for Larry's it has a after taste that is not pleasin other then that it is ok.

I have been enjoying Larry's Blend since its introduction. Larry's won a place in my rotation after H & H Blackhouse bulk was taken away. I was told that many customers complained that it dried up too quickly in the plastic bags. Frankly, I don't doubt it given the thin, cheap bags that were used back then. Our loss, now we have to buy it in tins. Anyway,,,, Larry's is a great substitute and a close namesake to Blackhouse. Try it, its not boring and yet also disciplined.

When I want a strong English this one hits the spot

This is a really great English. I mean delicious. Creamy, sweet, smokey....its actually hitting a lot of the 'nightcap' buttons for me in a lot of ways, while still being its own thing. I will be jarring up a pound of this eventually I think. If you like Blackhouse, Star of the East, or Fusiliers Ration, or PS Luxury English, you really need some Larrys Blend.

Very good. I recently tried Larry’s Morning Blend too, and I think it’s even better, but it’s received very little attention so far.

Too much lemon note for me, and causes a continuous drooling experience while smoking it. I tend towards burley blends, but wanted to try something different. The latakia is light, not heavy at all. The only thing heavy is the lemon virginia.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorites. Great flavor, great smoke!

Good smoke but I would have preferred more Latakia.

For me it is "too much topping" :p Some one tell me the version of this w/o the perfumes and I'll gladly trade you 2 to 1.

A very good entry level mix for those considering English style Latakia mixes. It’s a good smoker with subtle Latakia flavor. Probably a good all day smoke for some. Pouch keeps it surprisingly fresh for a long time.

Not "heavy" at all despite the name. Lite to medium I would say. Pleasant, but not those who prefer stronger profiles.

Sweet, smoky, no bite, stays lit...really easy to enjoy on most levels.

Sorry Russ, this is not for me. Did not care for the room note or the taste.Also had a bit of a bite. H&H in my opinion offer much better English blends. Your new blend DRAWING ROOM is a keeper. Please keep it in stock. I will be ordering this blend regularly. ;} It is one of the top five english blends I've ever smoked. The IZMIR tobacco in this blend sends it over the top for me...keep up the great service.

Part of my very first P&C order some time ago and I’m just getting around to smoking it. My small Redman saddle bit billiard got the job this time...a familiar English billiard. Pouch note is fruity with a significant Latakia background. Moisture level was tolerable and after a few well packed pinches, an easy charring light...one tamp and an easy light. A slightly sweet flavor, lotsa smoke, Latakia aroma. Pretty nice combo in my opinion I like sweet tobaccos and this one surely has sweetness. I like Latakia too but in smallish doses..once again, this is right on it. There’s a smallish bite but it fades quickly. A very smooth tasty smoke...best Latakia blend I’ve tried...may adopt a few ounces for future use. Larry did the right thing in asking for this blend...don’t know him but we at least share good taste in tobacco.

A VERY NICE BLEND- LOTS OF FLAVOR BUT A BIT ON THE HEAVY SIDE. I WILL ORDER MORE, AND BLEND IT WITH SOME "LEVINE MIX" TO SOFTEN IT UP A LITTLE AND STILL KEEP THE FLAVOR.

A really nice, gentle English type blend. Potentially an all day smoke. The type of blend that makes me want a second bowl as soon as I've finished the first. Woud recommend to any newbies wanting to try an English blend for the first time.

The tobacco has an off flavor in its room note. The tobacco is a quality tobacco but I don't think I will be ordering more

Not bad, considering the price. Not one of my favorites. Actually I prefer Sutliff's Majestic blend, although it is a milder blend, this blend has a more pleasing taste and aroma...you decide.

I bought this as part of a sampler special, and I'm glad I did because it did not agree with me. It started out tasting like a really good sweet and smoky Balkan blend, but about halfway through my bowl the sour flavor started to appear, and grew in intensity until it felt like I was sucking on a mouthful of "sour patch kids" candies. I had seen other reviews mentioning the sour flavor, but wasn't able to tell from them just how sour it was or what "sour" would be like in a tobacco. Now I know! If you like really sour, mouth-puckering flavors like sour patch kids, then you'll love this. Alas, I do not.

Ordered in bulk. Product arrived in a flimsy ziploc type bag that would not stay closed, so tobacco was dry and difficult to pack properly. That said, it’s a pleasant English blend that’s good for a bowl or two, but a little strong to smoke all day.

Very smooth smoke. Light, with good flavor.

This a very tasty soothing smoke! More complex than 10 to Midnight, and keeps much of the campfire room note that make Russ’s Latakia blends so appealing. There are a lot of Latakia-forward blend available, but this one is particularly nice. It's a keeper. I’ll probably order a pound and make it my standard smoke over the cold months.

Not as good as BlackHouse or WhiteKnight, but a really good blend that is somewhat milder. I've really gotten where I'm enjoying this blend a lot. My wife isn't crazy about the room odor, but she's partial to the aromatics, which I only smoke to please her. I plan on stocking a few pounds of this in my jars to age.

I like this very much. In fact, I am smoking it right now. It is very similar to my taste to Dunhill Early Morning. The latter is better but only by a tiny bit. I could smoke Larry's Blend every day for many years to come.

Relatively new to pipe tobacco, but I found this blend tasted like old ashtray/cigarettes. Especially further down the bowl.

This review is from a woman who always loved aromatic blends until I found Larry's Blend. It's replaced Molte Dulce as my favorite smoke. Can't say enough about it. Others have posted details about it so I won't repeat those, just underline how wonderful it is!

This is the blend I reach for when I want some rich Latakia flavors. I have smoked quite a bit of it and never found it less than fully satisfying, and usually mind-blowing. Cool burning and easy to smoke. It's what Dunhill Nightcap should be.

Definitely a nice smooth, buttery, and smoky mix! I love finishing the night off with a bowlful.

My first go round with this blend. I like the way it starts and finishes. Nice slow burn with a pleasant full bodied flavor. It is a great way to end the day.

i will buy this stuff again,seem to H&H is my blender.As a Balkan style lover i would consider this one is good version off it.

Larry’s blend is exactly what it says it is. It’s Ten to Midnight with a more Oriental and Latakia presence and less of a Virginia presence. For me the Orientals and Latakia are too heavy handed in Larry’s blend. Ten to Midnight is a much more balanced and enjoyable tobacco.

A good and balanced smoke, nicely cut for even burning and with a typical English blend flavor.

It was the worst tobacco I ever purchased. I put it in my Ref. to keep it moist and it stunk the whole thing and contents up . I ended up tossing it in the trash without even using it.

Fantastic blend, gives that campfire aroma but I did feel there was an incense-like aroma that was a little strong. It's definitely different than my other blends and I'll definitely enjoy the rest of the 1oz that I bought, but I'm not sure if I'll get it again because of that extra hit of incense-like smell.

This stuff is unbelievable. I'm a cigar smoker who is quickly becoming a pipe smoker. The smooth spice is wildly appealing. This may easily become my go to blend. It's an easy smoke that just keeps on giving.

It's the end of the night, the wind is howling outside and the rain is coming down and it's time to pack a pipe to smoke by the fire with a book and my sheep dog curled up on my lap. I want that special, deep aromatic for my last smoke of the night so the Heavy English is taken from it's jar with a smile.

I tried H&H's Chestnut early this spring (excellent tobacco!), which sent me on a bit of a Latakia bender. In my last order, I picked up 4 ounces of Sutliff Heavy English, to venture into the "dark side" of English blends. At the same time, I picked up 8 ounces of Balkan II (also a wonderful blend...). I smoked these two a day apart, and loved them both... and came to the conclusion that I wished I had ordered more Heavy English. This is a very smooth smoking blend. There is, as the description says, a ton of real tobacco flavor. It is not as heavy as I thought it would be... and a heck of a lot smoother than I thought it would be. When they say lemon virginias... they mean LEMON VIRGINIAS. This is especially apparent when paired with a good strong cup of coffee with a bit of French Vanilla creamer... wow... the flavors came to life in a riot of shifting, wonderful notes... just sublime. This tobacco has a beautifully full, rich mouth feel, which only improves on the retrohale. It has a nice enough kick to it to be both a beginning and end of day smoke... or anywhere in between. I am, by nature, a bit impatient... pipe smoking moderates that in me. When I went to reorder this today, to my dismay, it was backordered. This is completely out of character for me... but I ordered eight ounces more... I don't care if I have to wait for it to be back in stock. I love it that much! It's just so smooth, so creamy, and so satisfying, that it is totally worth the wait. I look forward to the pleasant surprise of the postal tag in my mailbox telling me that it has arrived. This blend is just wonderful for my persnickety mouth chemistry. It never bites me. Ever. That is worth waiting. There is something to be said for delayed gratification....

I have read about Larry,s blend for sometime, and during the Las Vegas pipe show I spoke with Russ. P&C was out of stock for awhile, but finally became available, I truly retreat waiting this long to order. Brief: No tongue bite, room note - 4 assuming you like Latakia, burns to a gray ash & and is an all day smoke. Poor used: Nording Seagull. Russ was, as always right!

As described. A very smooth, balanced, cool-smoking, full Latakia blend. I've been smoking a lot of this since I got my order, and I actually enjoy it quite a bit more than some of the more famous Dunhill blends (Nightcap and 965). When you consider the price, this is something I imagine I'll be buying pretty regularly.

Though I have been a pipe smoker on and off for thirty years, I never drummed up the courage to try English blends until now. I tried Grandpa's Prince Albert and thought they would be like that. Wanting a different experience I ordered the Light, Med., and Heavy. To my surprise I liked them all. The Heavy was my least favorite as it does seem to be a little more stout. I was very surprised at how smooth and full flavored it was without being really strong. I was hoping they would appeal to my husband so he would quite cigarettes, but no luck. I also ordered McClelland's Dark English and that was the best of all four in my opinion. I have just ordered more English blends to try, I am just hoping no hair shows up on my chest.
