John Bull Smooth Pipes

Joining the John Bull line of cigars and pipe tobacco are the new and outstanding John Bull Smooth Pipes. These warm, tan briars are all pipes with diamond or square shanks. There are straight and bent bulldogs along with a square shanked panel. All have black acrylic stems and are finished with five-part trim rings that represent the colors of the Union Jack. If you're a fan of traditional British-style briars, you'll definitely want to add a John Bull Smooth pipe to your collection.

A Winner.
My second John Bull pipe (the first being a black sandblasted one). The smooth version seems like the Spring through Autumn JB pipe; the Black, the midwinter. My imagination wanders to pairing with canal boating, sailing or blue collar dockland work - they're hearty. The smooth version could double as a classy snooker-room/fireplace/brandy-paired pipe, suitable for evening discussions with Churchill, or mornings out on the flat fields of Lincolnshire. The panel pipe is very comfortable to hold in hand despite the very square look in P&C images. Color is very attractive wood, not as orange as images. Stem is straight but at a very slight downward angle, perhaps makes clenching weight a touch lighter (not sure if just my particular pipe). Very attractive, more-so than images. First smoke - perfect draw (fitted with 9mm to 3mm converter). Tobacco: St. Bruno Ready Rubbed (classic Liverpudlian, British tobacco).

My second John Bull pipe (the first being a black sandblasted one). The smooth version seems like the Spring through Autumn JB pipe; the Black, the midwinter January, February pipe. Beautiful Pipe
I love the pipe, very pretty in color and grain with professional decoration on the stem and the bit. The only problem I have with it is that it is listed as having a 1.5 inch deep bowl. That is NOT accurate, and the reason for my 4 stars, more for the inaccurate features listing, not the pipe itself. The bowl on mine is barely and inch and 3/16ths (not even a quart of an inch, much less half). The filtered version advertises a 1.3 inch deep bowl. I bought this because I wanted the no filter model and the "deeper" bowl. Although this isn't the most pleasing outcome, I still love the pipe, it's just a shorter smoke than I expected. The numbers need to be corrected.

Varnish blistered after first smoke
Well made, with great grain made very noticeable due to varnished finish. Unfortunately, the varnish blistered after the first smoke resulting in a hugely ugly appearance which also masked the fine grain beneath. Hopefully this was a manufacturing defect. Will return for exchange, but noticed that another reviewer had the same experience with blistering varnish

Nice Looks on the John Bull 1534
I found good draw along with, size of the bowl as, it gives expectancy of what, length of time until the end of smoking and, is satisfying. I appreciate having a nice looking pipe, too.
