A popular, classic rises from the ashes!
John Cotton's Nos. 1 & 2 was a staple for many pipe enthusuasts until it disappeared in the eighties. Through careful research and sampling vintage tins, which jogged the memory of master blender Russ Ouellette, this smooth and smoky blend has returned for a whole new generation of pipe lovers to try.
This is a mellow to medium-bodied blend of ripe Virginias, fragrant Orientals, spicy Turkish leaf and Latakia. There's enough Latakia to let you know it's there, but the marriage of the Cyprian leaf and the various Orientals produce an exotic flavor, and the Virginias add just the right amount of sweetness for beautiful balance. John Cotton's Nos. 1 & 2 can be enjoyed anytime, and will never overwhelm the palate.

John Otton’s 1 and 2
Good smoke worth buying and trying.I gave it 4 stars because it has a bit of a bite ( to me at least). But would recommend it. I will smoke the rest of the tin and may buy another and cellar it to see it it smooth’s out a bit.

Nice Mild and Balanced English Blend
Out of the tin, JC#1&2 was fairly dry, burned fast, and bit a little. I rehydrated in a canning jar and, voila! It burned at a decent rate and didn’t bite. I was able to enjoy the smooth flavors without distraction. Some say JC#1&2 is a good “entry” to English blends; but I have enjoyed English/Balkan blends for several years and find JC#1&2 a great blend for those times when you don’t want the fuller flavor of Latakia and orientals, but a milder, smoother experience. It’s a great morning smoke with your coffee, balanced, and provides just enough nuance to satisfy. Great mild and balanced English blend I’ll be ordering again.

Comfort Food
Firstly, I couldn’t begin to give a comparison to the original JC #1 and/or #2. I’ve only been smoking non-aromatic blends for about 5 years. I’v Been smoking pipes for about 45 years and relied mostly on OTC blends like Captain Black, Amphora, Borkham’s Riff, and the ocassional artisan blends from local B&Ms. My first intro to “English” blends was Frog Morton (frog on a log). I’ve tried many, many since then and have found I prefer English and some VaPers over aromatics. In fact, I’ve sworn off almost anything aromatic except for a couple of “hybrids” which lean toward English (e.g, Boswell’s Northwoods and SPC’s Potlatch). John Cotton’s #1 & 2 satisfies like meat and potatoes with just enough Latakia and orientals, sweetened by high quality Virginia’s. Tounge bite is a non-starter for me and JC’s 1 & 2 pleased me greatly with its absence of bite. Moisture out of the Tim was perfect. This is a fine, balanced, flavorful English blend which stands firmly on its own merits. Some say it’s a good intro to English; I say it’s a pleasurable smoke on its own and an all-day smoke for those who like English blends. Hats off to Russ and his blending prowess for bringing to us a pleasurable blend. I will definitely buy more to cellar and keep on hand for daily smokes. Pipes used: Savinelli Joker 624; Don Carlos 1-note Fiamatta. Age when smoked: Fresh from tin

John Cottons 1 and 2
I've only tried a couple of bowls and they were a bit all over the place for me. A blend of very good tobaccos but I haven't found them harmonized (yet). I much prefer John Cottons no. 1 which is a fantastic blend for my tastes. I may change my opinion on nos 1 and 2 after finishing the tin.

Quality stands out.
I purchased both JC1 & JC1&2, and found that I liked 1&2 a little more than 1. 1 had a bit more tonge bite, at least for me. Nevertheless, both are quality tobaccos and I am enjoying them both.

First tin, great choice
Opening my first tin was a pleasure. It's seal hissed as I broke it. My nose was met with a pleasant aroma of fine tobaccos. I could hardly wait to fill my pipe with it's first treat of John Cotton's 1 & 2. Slightly drier it was pleasant to pack and burned well. It's satisfying aroma lofted into the air teasing me to take another puff. As I drew on the stem, my mouth was filled with a pleasant flavor without bite. I recommend trying this blend. I enjoyed every draw.

John Cotton's Numbers 1 & 2, a nice smoke
This is a dryer tobacco out of the tin. It lights well but also burns a bit quickly and burns down to a nice white ash.I found it spicy which comes through in both the taste and the aroma. I smoke a lot of aromatic blends but I like having this on hand for when I'm in the mood for something else. One notable thing, there's a lot of tobacco packed into the 1.75 oz. tin. I store my tobacco in 1/2 pint jars and most of the time can get this size tin in one jar. I had to use two for the John Cotton's Numbers 1 & 2.

John Cottons number 1&2
This is definitely destined t be a classic and not for the faint of heart. A very strong earthy tone sets this apart and gets the smokey flavors to erupt when you enjoy a bowl of this blend.

Hmm...john cotton numbers 1 & 2
Seems to get the job done and aint a bad or untastey wake up tobacco,...but it has no frills or extras,....and is quite touchy on speed smoked,....to speed it up at all during most of the bowl unfortunatelly causes it to go downhill,...but nonetheless,.... A nice and tastey english wakeup slow smoking tobacco......for the occasional smoke.

Another go-to blend..
I found JC 1&2 to be an excellent addition to my rotation. I would recommend it to pipe smokers who enjoy a fine English-style blend. Truly a pleasant treat!

The old ways
This stuff smokes like the original John Cotton. It's light and satisfying to say the least. I let a shop owner I know try some of this and he said it reminded him of when John Cotton Himself use to come around stores to sell.

A Great Line Of English Blends!
I purchased all three of the new John Cotton's blends and the only problem I have is deciding which one I like best. Then I decided to give up and enjoy them all. John Cotton's Number 1&2 represents the middle ground among the three blends, the #1 being the mildest (but still flavorful) and Smyrna (I'm smoking it as I write this) the fuller bodied version. I can only say that these all are excellent, easy to enjoy, flavorful English blends that many will choose as their favorite all-day smoke. Highly recommended!

Must buy Tobacco.
I had been anxiously awaiting this blend, and was happy to see PC make it available. I hurriedly ordered a tin to try. Black House has been my go to everyday tobacco. I love it's taste and depth. JC 1&2 gives me that same underlying flavor profile, but adds some sweet nuances. It's really a very good smoke, light enough to be an all day, any time of day smoke, but satisfying enough for the 1 bowl/day guys like me. I've tried both JC 1&2 and Bengal Slices from STC, and have to say that they are better than I had expected. I hope they make this available in bulk so I can buy it by the pounds and cellar it up.

This is a smooth, well blended tobacco which can be enjoyed all day.

What a treat!
It's a rare thing when you first light up a new blend and get totally bowled over. I'm not referring to to the strength or the depth of taste in this case, but the absolutely delightful balance, quality and subtlety of this blend. The Virginia component is so smooth and comforting and the Latakia is in perfect balance with the Orientals. I think this will be a perfect lazy afternoon smoke when I want something other than a VaPer or straight Virginia flake. I may have smoked this a few times way back when, and with much more experience now can see why this is an all-time classic. Bravo Russ and his team: this has got to be one of the smoothest English/Oriental blends I have ever tried!

A Joy to smoke
I ordered a tin to try based on the rave reviews of those who sampled this blend prior to it's release and wrote a review on tobaccoreviews.com. It is a satisfying medium strength mixture of the highest order. The orientals and latakia play off each other perfectly. The balance is exceptional. It smokes cool and completely to the bottom of the bowl. The quality of leaf used is beyond compare. Delicious in every way. Leaves a light taste on the tongue. Lovely spicy taste in every puff, but not heavy. I think this is a masterpiece of exceptional quality.
