Lane Andullo

Lane Limited's Andullo brings a type of tobacco never sold commercially in the US to their huge following of fans. Dominican Republic cigar leaf is tightly bunched for two years to create a dark and flavorful tobacco that has been smoked as pipe tobacco in the Dominican for a long time. The folks at Lane Limited got their hands on some of this rich leaf and combined it with a good amount of silky black Cavendish to add smoothness to the blend, and finished it with a touch of Latakia to add depth and complexity. Andullo is a truly unique tobacco that we're sure will find a huge following among the P&C Faithful.

Interesting
The first bowl is a bit confusing. I couldn’t tell if I was smoking a pipe or a cigar and kept wanting more of both. The second bowl was much better. It’s actually surprisingly smooth and cool smoke. The cigar leaf comes and goes in the background but is always present to some extent. To me it was a nice maduro flavor. I think this will be one to always keep around, but not an everyday smoker. It’s an enjoyable smoke with interesting characteristics. Definitely worth giving a try if your interested in the cigar leaf. I will definitely buy again.

Smooth, cool, and rich. One of my new standards. Smokes well in any size bowl though I am leaning towards my deeper thinner pipes.

Unique tobacco.
This was my first time trying andullo cigar leaf. It has a very unique flavor that would be hard to describe. It's a nice tobacco for a change of pace. It's easy to light and burns very nicely.

An unanticipated first date...
Just opened the tin...moisture level seemed good so I packed a bowl and am smoking it as I write. The tin aroma is like prunes, fruity and sweet, very pleasant. The texture is like nothing I’ve seen before sort of chopped and chunky with a leathery feel. It loads and packs easily, the charring light was uneventful and with a tamp of the surface it lit readily and off we went. It’s smoky, tangy and sort of on the strong side but pleasantly aromatic. The Latakia isn’t very noticeable except for the smokiness and the black cavendish is doubtless the source of its mildly subtle sweet flavor...the cigar leaf is on top and announcing its presence at every puff. I’m guessing that it would turn every head in a room full of seasoned pipe smokers. I’ll describe it as authoritative with a little fruity character, plenty of smoke, easy to keep lit and the pipe stays cool. I’m smoking it in a favorite small Comoy Canadian but suspect that it would be perfect in a more open bowl when a quick powerful smoke would be just the thing...I’ll try it and see I guess. I’ll give it an “unusual but likable” description, sort of like our family Bulldog. I’ll comment that it’s character will probably grow on you if given the chance. A worthwhile change of pace for sure. Nicotine presence is significant for me.

Mild flavor, all day smoke, really a twist on black cavendish
It is definitely a nice all day smoke but does not come close to the complexity listed in the description. I could really only taste black cavendish followed by a bit of sour cigar leaf after...sour not in a bad way but thats the only way to describe it. I love both black cavendish and cigars; however, this was just mild, maybe it simply didn't match my expectations.

One of my new favorites...
This is my first review. I am still somewhat of a novice, but wanted to give my input on this blend. I cannot give u all the ins and outs of flavors, but I really enjoy this blend. It is one of my current favorites. I can taste a flash of the sweet black cavendish regularly, a whiff of Latakia occasionally, and the cigar leaf fairly well most of the time. The cigar leaf, for me, is tasty but somewhat generic. It is the flashes of BC and Latakia, combined w the base of cigar that I think makes this blend so tasty. I think this blend would be most appreciated by pipers like me who are not brand new, but not veterans either. Someone who likes black cavendishes and aromatics but is beginning to seek stronger, fuller tastes. That is what this blend is for me. Kind of a bridge between aromatics and mild non-aro blends.
