When I first took up the pipe in the mid-seventies, I was fascinated by the varieties of tinned pipe tobaccos. These were brands I never saw in a drugstore or supermarket, and one tin jumped out at me because of the gorgeous design of the label. It was a Lane Limited tobacco, and I bought a tin. It was a rich, medium-bodied Latakia blend with a different flavor because it contained Dubec and Mahalla. I enjoyed it greatly, but then it was gone.

Flash forward to today. Our friends at Lane Limited have revived this great old blend, so Medal of Valor (and, yes, for those of you who remember the original, the name has changed slightly) is back with that same blend and beautiful tin art. If you tried it in the past, you’re in for a stroll down memory lane. For those who never tried it, you have a treat in store.

Burns excellent, with great flavor.
Purchased this at my local "discount outlet" to hold me off until my order comes in. I say that lightly because it was almost 15 bucks! Anyway, burns amazing, and was at a good humidity level. Maybe left my pipe packed 20 minutes before I could get out to smoke. Opening the tin you are presented with some very tightly packed tobacco. I had to dig in with my nails to get any out. Tin note is a rum/Brandy saoked fig left in a smoker for an hour or so. I wasn't sure if I was going to be a fan but I definitely am. Perique was definitely noticed in room note and taste first 1/4 of the smoke. Not too powerful but a good nic hit with the perique. Has a great flavor all the way down to the last draw.

Another good English Style Blend.
First impressions are sort if important...real impressions come after emptying the tin. This was my first try with Medal of Valor. The tin aroma is wonderful, tangy, fruity with Latakia lurking right on top. It seemed dry initially but pinched and packed well in a 54 year old small Bertram Billiard. Charring, tamping, lighting without a hitch. Volumes of very nice smoke from the start and with a fine Latakia aroma. Subtly sweet and easy to keep lit. A minor fading bite but not too bad. This was one of three Latakia blends I’ve purchased from P&C...my favorite thus far is Larry’s Blend, Medal of Valor is next and Crown Achievement was the least likeable from my viewpoint. MOV appears to represent a well balanced English style blend so I’ll give it points for that. It has all that I can recall from years ago with proprietary blends from two high quality St. Louis tobacconists...I wasn’t a big Latakia fan then and I’m still not. All things in moderation for my taste buds. I’ll smoke the tin and maybe come back later with different sense of it but it’s not a “top of my list” character. The old pipes I’m using are “in character” English Billiards or Canadians...should be the best proving grounds as it’s an English blend being smoked.

Not for me.
NOT a flavor I enjoyed...I can't really even describe it. Maybe it's my unrefined palette, or just different strokes for different folks. Just YUCK. That said, it smells pretty good when smoked and packs and burns flawlessly.

Great English blend from Lane.
This is a smooth English blend. It has just enough Latakia and remids me a lot of Squadron Leader. I will order more, as soon as I finish a bowl, I want to smoke another.

A really good English blend.
Giving it 4 stars, 'cause there's always room for improvement. That said, it's a really good English...I'd buy it in bulk if it was in stock, I'll add another tin to my next order.

Highly Recommended
An excellent representation of the American style English blend. Good quality Burley and Latakia is present throughout, intermingled with sweet Birginia and quality Orientals. The Perique, although slight pops up every now and then to make things even more interesting. This blend comes at the right humidity for immediate smoking, but I would still let it air in a jar for a few weeks. This seems to meld the flavors and calm them down a bit.

Just enough of the right ingrediants.
I like this smoke when I want a little Latakia in my pipe. It is somewhat understated but present. The tastes is very good.

Sit back with this- enjoy the sunset!
Picked up a sample of this at the KC Pipe show 2016. I was a little leery as I think I have found my "perfect" one in Frog Morton Cellar. I really have enjoyed this sample. So much so that I ordered a tin of it recently. This has been a great sun setting on the back porch blend for me. I'm definitely adding it to my cellar.

best yet
wow this stuff is great. If you like latakia you'll love this one. I've tried a lot of tobaccos in the year that I have been smoking and had pretty much given up on trying new stuff. I have a lot of tobacco that just sits around, lot of wasted money. But I like latakia so I tried this, and it is by far the best I have smoked yet. up till now my main smoke was frog Morton cellar. Not anymore. I will always have medal of valor around.

Great medium Latakia blend.
I'm a Latakia junkie, and really enjoy what's referred to as Lat bombs. However this is a wonderful all day smoke with enough Latakia to be good, but not overpowering. I got a sample at the TAPS pipe show in Raleigh NC, then realized there was a full tin in the grab bag. If you like a medium Latakia blend you'll love this stuff. Highly recommended.

Medal of Valor - The Name Honors our Heroes and is a Great Smoke to Contemplate Their Sacrifices
I smoked a pipe for years, from 1970 through the mid-80's, and loved the English blends. I was in the military a long time and bought a pipe at every duty station I was assigned to...still have most of them, all classics. I got back into pipe smoking last year and looked for a mild English blend to "whet the appetite" once more. Two tins of Medal of Valor later, I'm hooked. This is a milder blend with excellent room note, no bite, outstanding taste, and no after taste. Definitely one of my now new go-to-blends. As a matter of fact, where's my lighter at?

Flavorful, big smoke, great outdoors, can be a bit much inddors, yet not unpleasant or over powering indoors. This is a tobacco that has a good solid fundamental flavor that is very pleasing.

My review of Medal of Valor.
This is some of the best tobacco that I have smoked. It was blended perfectly, for an amazing smoke. I highly recommend Medal of Valor pipe tobacco.

We shared Medal Of Valor with several people. No one really cared for it.
